(00:00):
This is Gary and Shannon and you'relistening to kf I A M six forty,
the Gary and Shannon Show on demandon the iHeartRadio app. I have
some important and breaking what would youcall it Olympics news? Get it kind
of? I guess? How aboutthis? And Iraqi judoka has recorded the
first positive doping test of the ParisOlympics. Judoka see like judo, but
(00:24):
something extra. I think it's ajudo athlete. I think that's the term
for a judoka. Statement from It A, the International Testing Agency said
Sajad Sehen tested positive for the bandanabolic steroids. Me so if you had
Sajad Sahin on his card, thereyou go. A viral TikTok challenge is
(00:47):
forcing Chipotle to address complaints about smallportion sizes, to which I say,
what have you ever gone to aChipotle and said I need more? The
Chipotle camera trick challenge started trending aftera Chipotle customer posted a video of an
employee who added more food to hisbowl because he was being filmed. Video
(01:08):
got over two million views. Hasinspired similar people to film the people at
Chipotle to make sure they're getting biggerportions. Jeez, oh right, your
power for good Lord, you don'tneed more fire. Firefire, fire burns
in northern California. That park fireup near Chico has exploded to one hundred
(01:30):
and sixty four thousand acres. Tryingto make sure we don't have a fire
blow up like that here in theLake Elsinore area, the Macy fire joining
us to talk more about it andcovering the story for KFI News is our
own blake, trolley blake. What'sgoing on? Yeah, guys, So
the latest press briefing officials told usthat this fire has burned one hundred and
forty five acres and is fifteen percentcontained. Now. More than six hundred
(01:52):
and fifty homes were evacuated out hereyesterday. Has more than two hundred firefighters
from several agencies. Those include theo C Fire Authority and the Forest Service
responded to rapidly moving flames racing towardshomes. These homes are southwest of the
lake, just between the lake andOrtega Highway. Unfortunately, one home had
its exterior garage destroyed. The homeitself also was burned down there says or
(02:17):
fire crews are telling me that morethan one hundred acres burned in the first
two hours. From there, itappears a very aggressive battle by firefighters kept
it from growing too much further,as its rate of growth was really tapered
out. Overnight, winds calmed down, temperatures fell, and that kept the
fire within the perimeter line. Nowthat said, this morning, ground crews
(02:37):
including dozers are working to get asmuch containment as possible as the day is
expected to be warmer and drier.Winds on the ridges could hit fifteen miles
per hour. But when I talkabout those temperatures, guys, it's expected
to be one hundred degrees out herelater today and it is already sweltering.
It's already about eighty seven degrees inmy car, So you know, they
(02:57):
are expecting more of those hot, dry, windy condition today and with that
they're they're taking a very aggressive offensivethis morning. Yeah, they were able
to make multiple water drops overnight, which is always just spectacular. And the
pictures of this saying look terrifying withthe night sky, the pitch black,
right with the fire exploding what appearsto be right behind some of these neighborhoods.
(03:23):
Yeah, because this is the hillthat this fire burned on. Is
just right behind a little track ofhomes that again is just southwest of the
lake. So this came very closeto many homes. And in some of
those photos, I'm sure you notice, Shannon, there were a lot of
lookie loose kind of right up onthat fire line taking photos. I was
definitely concerned for them. But yeah, overall, what I would say is
that with this fire today, onething to watch for would be if it
(03:45):
spreads. Now they're telling me thatright now things look pretty good. They've
been able to keep it within thatperimeter. But again, with these hot,
windy and dry conditions, you know, anything's possible. The other thing
to look out for is other firesin the area. I'm told today by
firefis that they're expecting more hot, windy, and dry weather over the next
few days. Here's Calfire's Rob Rosine. So as we're moving through the weekend,
(04:08):
we have some pre extreme fire behaviorthat we're going to be experiencing should
another fire start. What we'll haveis accommodation of high temperatures, low humidity,
and some sustained winds in the tento fifteen mile an hour range as
we saw yesterday with the Macy fire. That fire grew very rapidly to fifty
acres within the first hour and overone hundred acres in the first two hours.
(04:29):
So that's the very extreme fire growth. And I think residents need to
be prepared if we get another start, we're going to have extreme fire growth
like that again. And he's saying, you know, don't wait till we
have to evacuate your home. Ifyou think that it's time to go,
make sure to get out of thearea. And one thing that could be
tricky here, guys, is asRob was explaining to me earlier, is
(04:50):
you know they're going to have todivert resources. So right now they have
a lot of resources on this Macyfire, but if another fire breaks out,
they are going to have to divertsome of the resources here to that
other fire. Yeah, trust yourgut, don't ignore your gut, and
don't ignore the fire officials when theytell you to get out if that goes.
Whatever is the beat first of thetwo, Blake, thank you appreciate
(05:12):
the report. All right, thanksguys. Blake Trolly there with the latest
on this fire. The Macy fireout in the Lake Elsinore area yesterday.
A lot was made about the executiveorder, and we talked with our own
Michael Monks about this, the executiveorder from Governor Newsom regarding the cleanup of
homeless encampments. So we've heard alittle bit from some municipal government leaders La
(05:36):
County, Santa Monica, et ceteraabout what that means in terms of their
fight against homelessness. So we'll talka little bit more, sort of a
follow up on that story. You'relistening to Gary and Shannon on demand from
KFI AM six forty. Fire beganafter an employee was trying to crush a
couple of vehicles inside one of thebig compactors, and the cars burst into
(05:58):
flames that spread to hundreds of cars. Couldn't happen to a nicer guy.
Harvey Weinstein is in the hospital. He yes, double pneumonia. I've never
HEARDing what is double pneumonia? Oneon each I guess each long. I
don't know. I guess if you'rebig enough, you can have double two
double dose. Tested positive for COVIDand double pneumonia. But he was actually
(06:19):
taken to the hospital. According tohis representatives, he was taking the hospital
because he was being treated for conditionsthat he's still afflicted with on a daily
basis, diabetes, high blood pressure, spinal stenosis, flewid on his heart,
gab lungs, and various other conditions. It's the picture of unhealthy,
and then throw on a heaping helpof double pneumonia and the COVID. Lady
(06:43):
Gaga gearing up for her performance atthe Olympics opening ceremony. At one last
rehearsal before the big show, shewas seen practicing her number. She was
photographed singing on golden steps alongside thesand the Seine in Paris. Gaga pulled
out all the stops for her gigs, performed in a chic all black ensemble
next to dancers and a full jazzband, decked out in some well it's
(07:08):
Lady Gagash, you know she alwaysis in costume, right, a meat
suit of some kind. It's kindof an over the top moulin rouge,
cabernet, pink feathers, a lotof French words. I think the French
would call it an ensemble. Blueokay. Baseball below there the baseball News.
Seattle Mariners acquired Randy A. Rosarinafrom the Rays for a pair of
(07:29):
prospects. That was the biggest sofar, the biggest trade that we've seen
as we reached the deadline. Angelslost to the As six to five last
night. They'll play against six thirtyeight first pitch to night. And as
Shannon mentioned, the Dodgers beat theGiant six to four yesterday. Clayton Kershaw
actually his arm did not fall off, so that's a good sign they will.
Dodgers move on to Houston Houston totake on the Astros. I did
(07:51):
not mention that they won. Iwouldn't do that to you on a Friday,
but you did mention the Astros orthe Dodgers or somebody I did.

one eight hundred nine million or sweetJames dot com. Again, the keyword
goes on the website. That's whereyou put it. That is how you're

(08:37):
We talked to Michael Monks yesterday fromKFI News about Gavin Newsome and the executive
order that we can start clearing homelessencampments, and my first question was when
are we going to see the pushbackfrom other Democrats who think that this is
just cruel. I don't know, well pretty crazy. Karen bass Now and
(08:58):
La County su Provisor Lindsay Horvath havecondemned the decision. They have started the
pushback, saying it would criminalize homelesspeople, shuffle them from community to community
without addressing the overall crisis. Willthen address it, then address it,
address it, or we clear thecamps. So the issue came to another
(09:22):
interesting bubble yesterday when Gavenuso announced thisexecutive order to have state agencies clean up
encampments. Now, as you mentioned, the local leaders are kind of put
in this position of okay, butwhat does that mean for us? A
lot of these municipal governments, countystate government are sorry. County and city
(09:43):
governments have been relying on the stateto kind of take the lead in some
of this stuff. And as anexample, yesterday Phil Brock, who was
the mayor of Santa Monica, wenton Fox eleven and talked about what this
means for a city like Santa Monica, for cities around the state. Reaction
right now is it doesn't do anythingin Santa Monica except helped clear the itent.
(10:07):
So the Santa Michah Freeway embankments havehomeless people on them. We have
to press Caltrans sometimes two weeks, three weeks a month to clear those areas.
That's also where we get our sunfires. This ruling has I understand
it so far doesn't affect the streets, it doesn't affect Santa Monica beaches,
(10:28):
it doesn't affect downtown. It onlyaffects State of California property. So in
Santa Monica, those are the SantaMichah Freeway embankments. So and to his
point, to the mayor's point there, once you get them off the embankments,
they go into the city and ifthe city doesn't have the resources from
the state to then move them somewhereelse, it just makes the city even
(10:48):
more infiltrated by homeless people. Dosome cannot order local authorities to act,
but they can't apply pressure by withholdingmoney for counties and cities. An interesting
op ed piece in the Sacramento btoday from Tom Phillip and A Heat.
There was a couple things about itthat I noted, basically that this Gavin
(11:09):
Newsom's approach to homelessness should not beseen as a template for success. You
think of the billions with a Bbillions of dollars that have been spent in
the state of California, and thehomelessness problem has only gotten all the bond
money we have signed off on thinkingthat they would make good use of it.
(11:31):
Silly, silly, silly thought processon our behalf. But we found,
especially in La County, remember therewere just too many cooks in the
kitchen and everyone had a different ideaof how to spend all of that money.
Yeah, and if you have thinkof the fights between the municipalities.
Now, if you have a citylike Los Angeles in a county like Los
Angeles, and one is more aggressivethan the other in terms of removing homeless
(11:56):
encampments, all you're doing is shiftingthe problem to a different, different area,
different place. But what I thoughtthat The second thing that Tom Phillip
wrote in this op ed piece thatI thought was funny is Newsome has been
eclipsed by the Californian who is nowrunning for president. So his way of
getting a top headline in the NewYork Times is to remind the nation how
(12:18):
badly California is handling its homelessness issue. Interesting thought that was a pretty nice
line. I mean, yeah, maybe it was an attention grab, but
I think it's also playing into helpingher. If there's an effort to clean
up California's homelessness that she had ahand in when she was here, then
that's going to probably help her optics. I want to I don't think that's
(12:41):
going to be your biggest problem.Look at the cesspool that California has become,
and it happened under her watch.I think she's got bigger fish to
fry, Number one being the economy. Can I I want to pose a
question to people who happen to belistening. Do you mind if I sure?
Okay, well this is important.Robin. Give me this computer over
here that's got funny noises on it. Do you have the button that's you
(13:03):
think it's on? I don't thinkit's on Maybe it's me. I think
it's you. I mean, wecan work on it together. Here we
go. You have a big meetingtomorrow. Well, here's the thing.
I'm doing an event at Chargers trainingcamp and it's the first time I'll be
out there, and Jim Harbaugh's outthere. He's the new coach of Los
(13:28):
Angeles. He's on my Mount rushmoreof great coaches in the NFL past president.
What he was able to do withthe forty nine Ers, taking them
to three state, three straight NFCChampionship games, and a super Bowl was
incredible. I was a source ofgreat excitement in my life those years that
(13:48):
he was coach of my forty nineers, and now he is the coach
of your Los Angeles Chargers, andI have so many things I want to
say to him, but I can'tbecause I'll come across like a crazy person
and then maybe he fires me.Maybe he's like, I don't want her
on my sideline. There's two thingsthat people need to know. Yeah.
(14:09):
Number one is I completely agree withyou, and we need to pencil out
some sort of an opening line forrights to ease into that. Yeah.
The second thing is you are turningred. I'm excited, you are sweating.
I'm excited. So here's this.Well, I still get chills when
I think of those years, thosegreat years, And I still also have
(14:33):
questions about why we throw it acrabtree three times? Why you don't run
the ball with Frank Gore in theback of that's a second meeting. Why
was Kyle Williams able to field anotherpunt? I want to do this.
If you have a suggestion for Shannon'sfirst line to coach Harbaugh when they meet
again, We're trying to ease herinto this. We're trying to protect the
(14:54):
coach here. The problem is isthat I'm going in with the best of
intentions of just saying hello, howdo you do? But I know that
I have zero impulse control right andzero will power yes, and that I'm
going to make an ass out ofmyself and everybody knows it. Nobody wants
you to do that. I know, all right, So if you have
a suggestion for Shannon's first line theChargers head coach Jim Harbaugh, let us
(15:18):
know on the talkback feature on theiHeart app. Hit that little button,
send us a message. Again. We're trying to make sure that I realize
he's my job, he realizes thatshe's not as well. Just to take
it easy. I don't think thathe'll he'll see it. I think he
sees it in people. But Ihave a question, another quick question,
(15:39):
Walsh, Belichick, Harbaugh or theam I close? Who else would be
on your mount rushmore four faces?I'll have to think about that. You're
listening to Gary and Shannon on demandfrom KFI AM six forty. Got a
bunch of people there at the Olympicsas the opening ceremony gets underway. Quite
the spectacle that they're put on therein Paris, as it should be.
(16:00):
I mean, it is the Olympics, and it is Paris, and wow,
beautiful Lorraine Lepillie. However you saythe rain it appears to have held
off plumes of red and white andblue smoke over the Seine, of course
the colors of France. And there'sa bridge where those the smoke came up.
(16:22):
The bridge underneath it you could seethose curtains of water, very Disney
like or California Adventures. From that, I believe is where they're going to
have it sets up basically a curtainso you can't see beyond it, but
that I believe is where the allthe athletes are going to come through,
and all the different boats. Theystarted in a tunnel. They put some
kids in a boat. I don'tknow who them kids are. I don't
(16:44):
know who them kids are either, but they're they're carrying a torch or the
torch obviously, and it's going tomake its way and lead the parade.
But the boat tender, the personpiloting the boat is covered completely. You
don't know who that is, andit's almost creepy. And it's creepy because
there's kids in that boat and thisstranger that's got this like white hood on
(17:07):
put the kids in the boat, and we don't know who the hooded person
is. Is it Celine, isit Lady Gaga? I think it's neither
one of them, but it's supposedto be the person. They're not going
to put Gaga in a boat withkids. What they're going to do is
put that person in a boat withkids, who then will disappear behind a
stage somewhere, who then will comeout as Lady got There is grease o
(17:30):
Yasus. Everybody knows that they leadbecause that because they are the original Olympic
Games. People, everything came fromthe Greeks. So this is going to
be nice. That shirt you're wearingthis morning that has its origins in Greece,
did it really? Yes? Isee. Well we were talking just
before the break, and I thinkthis is an important moment in your life
(17:52):
that we all need to celebrate, and that is that you're going to be
meeting what you described as one oftheir faces on your Mount Rushmore of football,
right in Jim Harbaugh, who hasspent plenty of time coaching now at
the professional and the collegiate level, who's been hired, of course, a
huge hire in the off season thatthe Chargers picked him up to be their
head coach, and that was anexciting time for you. And it's we're
(18:15):
twenty four hours away now basically fromyou meeting coach Jim Harbaugh. So we
asked people, Hey, what wouldbe the great opening line, just to
you know, kind of keep itcalm, keep it simple, but you
know, display who you are asa person. Yeah, and uh,
Shannon, your opening line needs tobe welcome coach to Los Angeles. Who
(18:37):
has it better than us? That'sgood? Yeah, that's good. That's
strong. Good reference. And Imean that's what everyone's saying to him.
You know, good point. Youwant to be original different. Yeah,
Hey, Shannon, I say, yeah, you go up to Coach Harbaugh,
look him straight in the eye andsay Google Google. Okay, absolutely
not. It would be quite aI mean, if he listens to the
(19:02):
show, he'll do go goog andif he doesn't, you'll look crazy.
Yeah. Okay, Shannon, here'syour first line to bring the tension down.
And you have to say thank Godyou're the new coach of the Chargers,
and then you can drill the hellout of him. Okay, drill
(19:25):
him about I guess what his plansare for the team. I'm not asking
questions. Who the hell am Ijust walk right up to him and say,
Harball, you magnificent bastard. Thatis my favorite so far. It's
pretty good. It's pretty Jim,Shannon Farren, I hope you were as
(19:45):
excited to see me as I amto see you. Okay, that made
it creepy. Yeah, I don'tknow. Shy away from them, Shannon,
can you do me a favor andwhen you talk to Harball, can
you ask him why in the HarballBowl he threw four times in the zone
versus giving it to Frank Gore, who you believe the first or second best
running back in the league at thattime. Yes, maybe we'd have had
(20:07):
another Super Bowl. Yeah, Iget thanks, guys, have a great
weekend, buddy. Now listen,I understand that question. I feel like
that's gonna be a secondary type thing, not a tertiary go to. Yeah.
I mean, because that's going tobe like when we're in the meal
room, out on the road, right, or he's changing for a game.
Right, I get it, Shannon. How about saying Whitney can't get
(20:30):
away. Hey, anyone, we'reon a plane and you're still pretending like
it's a news conference or something likethat. You're sitting there with a notepad.
You're like, coach, I havea question, Shannon. How about
saying, asking Jim Harbaugh if youever said, mom, John turned off
the lights. Oh that's a goodreference. Yeah, that's funny. I
(20:52):
have a hat that just says runthe ball. Should I wear that?
Probably? Not? Okay again, second meeting, right, My suggestion for
when she speaks to Jim Harbaugh forthe first time is just to say,
welcome to the Chargers, coach that'sprobably the best idea. It is the
(21:15):
best that it's by far the safest. I do think you want to have
a tiny bit of edge. Yeah, that's why I think. Hello you,
magnificent bastard. Hey, Gary, and Shannon. I have a suggestion
from when Shannon means coach Harbaugh.I know she's super fandirl and all,
but we can be simple teacher somesign language. Hi, my name is
Shannon. I'm the sideline reporter.I'm using sign language, not because I'm
(21:38):
deaf, but because I'm absolutely nuts. I am a very big fan.
I look forward to working with you, and I'm sorry I'm not speaking.
I'll work towards them. Thank youfor having audience with me, your great
name, coming audience with me,your greatness. That's probably the best advice.
(21:59):
Now, just to not speak, just to not speak any words.
Okay, did you think of afourth head coach that you want on your
Mount Rush? Do you have Lombardion there? No, that's great,
Yeah, that's fine, unarguable.Okay, so Walsh, Belichick, Harbor,
Lombardi, those are your four.Yeah. We're not doing sports talk,
but I just this again, isa personal thing. What should Shannon
(22:22):
say to coach Harball when she meetshim for the first I'm trying to take
myself out of it. I'm tryingto make it not personal so that I
don't feel like being a crazy person. No, no, but and it's
still I mean, there is aprofessional aspect to it, obviously. Yeah,
I mean it's gonna be a quickthing, probably just a hello.
This is a lot of people.I mean, I don't even know for
sure if I'm going to meet him, I don't know. You gotta be
(22:44):
ready. I'm gonna be ready.I'm gonna look at this face. So
you take a game as why youtake a glove to a baseball game?
You gotta be ready? Right right, You're listening to Gary and Shannon on
demand from KFI AM six forty. The Olympics opening ceremony on away in Paris.
About three hundred thousand fans are expectedto be there along the Sane River.
(23:06):
The flag bearers for Team USA willbe Lebron James and Coco Goff.
Right now, Lady Gaga is puttingon quite the show there. She is
singing in French. She is singingin French. Do you think Bradley Cooper's
going to come out. That wouldbe amazing those blue eyes. There were
(23:30):
weather forecasts that was predicting rain. But it looks great, right, it
looks wonderful. There were some problems. Francis high speed rail network was actually
hit with widespread acts of vandalism, including some arson attacks on different stations,
and they said that that paralyzed travelto Paris from around Europe. There were
even some Olympic athletes that were weretraveling on trains. Two trains carrying athletes
(23:56):
to Paris on the Western Atlantique linewere stopped just before the opening ceremony.
One train had to be canceled, some other's authorities are hoping that others will
remain operational. Israeli Prime Minister BenjaminNetanyahoo has arrived for his meeting with Trump
at Mar A Lago. He wasexpected to land at Palm Beach International,
but instead his plane landed Fort Lauderdale. His motorcade then took the trip to
(24:22):
Palm Beach along the Turnpike instead ofI ninety five as was expected. The
next couple of weeks of polls, the next week definitely of Poles are going
to be very important in terms ofthe presidential race. There was a pole
out of Detroit. The Detroit Newsand WDIV found that the presidential race is
a dead heat right now between Trumpand Harris, each getting forty one percent
(24:45):
of support. But they looked alittle bit deeper specifically into demographics including race,
and they said among black voters thatthey surveyed there in Detroit, eighty
two percent support Kamala Harris. That'snot a crazy number. Twelve percent back
Robert F. Kennedy, and notone black voter in Detroit supported Donald Trump.
(25:07):
Here's the thing to remember about thatheadline is it was about six hundred
likely voters that were in this poll, and at this point they have not
yet said how many people of colorwere actually included in the sample, So
we don't have a huge sample tochoose from. But it is one of
those things where it could be anoutlier, but that the polls are going
(25:29):
to be pretty important to watch overthe next couple of weeks. Pennsylvania Governor
Josh Shapiro, by the way, rallying support for Harris today in Philadelphia.
He's one of the names that hasrisen to the top, one of two
or three names in terms of VPpick not all important state of Pennsylvania with
all those electoral votes. Listen, people have suggestions for it. Hi fan
(25:52):
and it's Jeff. Okay, I'mgonna call Harbach coach because I am a
Michigan fan, so I think ofhim as coach. Also, before you
get to coach, find Bill Klaskiand Jim Hill and ask them the first
question they're going to ask him. Then just introduce yourself high I'm along.
I don't say anything else, andmake sure you get to coach before Plaski
(26:17):
and he'll do who ask those questionsand he'll be fine. I don't need
help framing questions to ask coach Harbaugh. I'm probably much more well versed than
Jim Hill or Bill Plaski in thisdepartment. I think so. But thank
you. Hey, hey, littlegirl, go ask the men what to
ask the coach? Lesca father figuresin the room, Gerry Shannon, what's
(26:41):
going on? Guys? Hey Shannon? My thoughts is, I think you
should hit him with all your footballknowledge, non biased Niner stuff, non
bias, his personal step, andhow you feel about him, talk about
football so he's like man, sheknows her stuff about football. Then and
start hitting them with questions. Thatyou want to know about him, and
(27:03):
then start letting all your passion forhim go start off slowly stop me.
Yeah, that seems like that's awhole Guys, it's gonna be like twenty
seconds. I'm gonna have like twentyseconds initially, Happy Friday. Garyan Shannon's
Tannon. If it's possible, aska unique question or give a unique compliment,
(27:23):
throw them off their game with somethingyou feel like they haven't heard or
been asked a bunch of times before. That's what I like to do.
And then when you're meeting someone youidolize or look up to, you're gonna
freeze up. It's natural. Justplay it cool, and if you have
urge to blurt something out, justmake sure you practiced it a little bit.
(27:44):
Good luck. Yeah, practice you'reblurting. There are things that I
have never done once in my life, and at the top of the list
is play it cool. Not onetime have I ever played anything cool.
I would love to. I think, no, no, no, I
think that's the problem. If youtry to play it cool, that's going
(28:07):
to cause some issues. Yeah, just be relaxed. Also not good at
that. All right, we'll talkmore about that. It is Friday,
which means we're going to do ournine news nugget you need to know to
end our show. Also before that, we do the what you learned this
week on The Gary and Shannon Show. You can always let us know what
you learned. Leave us a talkback message on the iHeart app or through
(28:30):
your smart speaker. Just go hey, Prefaction, send a message to KFI
and then she'll record whatever you wantto say and you can say it to
us, all right. Coming upnext is Trump going to debate Kamala.
Seems like he's kind of backed away. We'll get into all the news coming
out of Washington right here on Garyand Shannon. You've been listening to The
(28:51):
Gary and Shannon Show. You canalways hear us live on KFI AM six
forty nine am to one pm everyMonday through Friday, and anytime on demand
on the iHeartRadio app
