Joe Biden could be a very good friend to New Zealand.
The US election has been called for Biden after he won Nevada and Pennsylvania. While his first task will be to get Covid under control in the United States while bringing America back together, Biden will also need to repair relations with global powers.
Former US ambassador to New Zealand and Joe Biden's policy advisor Mark Gilbert told Francesca Rudkin that Jacinda Ardern did an excellent job of threading the needle with Donald Trump, but working with Biden will be easier.
"Vice President Biden visited New Zealand in July 2016. It was an excellent visit, the talks were, I thought, terrific, and I thought he really addressed the areas of concern to both of our countries."
Gilbert says Biden will pick up right where he left off after he takes office in January.
