2. お久(ひさ)しぶり it has been a long time [お 久(ひさ)しぶりis politer form for 久(ひさ)しぶり]
3. 無事(ぶじ) safely; with no problems [無事(ぶじ)に can be used here as well]
4. ご無沙汰(ぶさた)しております (I) have been away; (I) haven’t contacting you; (I) have been in touch with you [ご無沙汰(ぶさた) (long silence; situation in which one is not contacting someone); しております I have been (not contacting), which is the humble form for しています; the dictionary form is ご無沙汰(ぶさた)する; a common expression to start a conversation or a letter after not contacting someone for a certain period of time. This expression gives a sense of apology for not being present in their relationship]
5. 長(なが)かったようで短(みじか)かった felt like a long time but actually was a short time [a common expression which is used when one looks back a period of time in the past]
6. 総(そう)じて overall; for the most part; as a whole [総(そう) (whole; total)]
7. 老人(ろうじん)ホーム retirement home; nursing home
8. 歯医(はい)者(しゃ) dentist [歯(は) (teeth); 医者(いしゃ) (doctor)]

 

9. ～度(たび)に every time ~; each time ~ [“dictionary form V + 度(たび)に”; 度(たび) counter for occasion, situation or occurrences]
10. 記(き)憶(おく) memory
11. はっきりしてきた became clear [past form of はっきりしてくる (to become clear)]
12. 更新(こうしん)する renew [to renew (a record)]
13. 危(あぶ)なっかしい seemingly dangerous; unsafe looking [an expression from the speaker’s point of view to describe someone to be not safe or not stable while engaging in some activity to the degree that the speaker feels worried about the safety of the person in action]
14. 迷(まい)子(ご)になる to get lost [迷(まい)子(ご) (lost child; lost person)]
15. 干(ほ)す hang out to dry; hang (outside) to dry
16. 乾(かわ)かす dry [to dry]
17. 天(てん)気(き)予(よ)報(ほう) weather forecast [天(てん)気(き) (weather); 予(よ)報(ほう) (forecast)]
18. ～のうちに within (a certain time frame)
19. ドンドンゴロゴロ (onomatopoeia) bang; boom [sound of thunder]
20. 当(あ)たり前(まえ) usual; the norm; common; natural; common place [na-adjective that used to describe something to be natural as a matter of course]

こんにちは、由美です。
このポッドキャストは、日本語を勉強している人のために作りました。
繰り返し何回も聴いてください。
随分お久しぶりになってしまいました。
ご無沙汰しております。
皆さんお元気でしたか？日本での旅行が終わりまして、アメリカのフロリダに無事帰ってきました。

(00:28):
日本で過ごした 7週間、長かったようで短かったですね。
大変なこともありましたが、総じて楽しかったです。
私の両親にも会えましたし、貴重な時間が過ごせたと思っています。
父は老人ホームに入っているんですが、コロナの影響で会えるのは 1ヶ月に一度だけと決まっていました。

でも、歯医者さんに行くというので、そこで 2回会うことができました。
老人ホームでも 2回会いましたので、合計 4回会うことができました。
会うたびに記憶が少しずつ回復してきて、昔話をしたり、言葉が少しずつはっきりしてきたように思いました。

(01:19):
母は大変元気で記憶力もよく、運転免許も更新して車を運転していましたね。
少し危なっかしいところもあったんですが、
84歳のわりにかなり上手に運転していたんじゃないかなと思います。
道もよく覚えていて、迷子になることもありませんでした。

(01:41):
この点はすごく安心しましたね。
日本で大変だったことといえば、洗濯です。
アメリカでは洗濯機に入れて、あとは乾燥機に入れ替えるだけなんですが、
日本では洗濯機が洗ってくれるところまでは同じです。
あと、乾燥機ではなくて外に干すんですね。

洗濯物を太陽に、太陽の光を当てて乾かすんですけれども。
なんだ？それだけ外に干すだけなら簡単じゃないと思われた方。
日本はちょうど梅雨の時期だったんですよ。
毎日、雨が降るんです。

(02:25):
で、洗濯物が乾かないんです。
全然。
室内に干しても 1 日では乾きませんから、ずっと洗濯物に囲まれて過ごしているという、
そういう毎日でした。
毎日こう天気予報を見ながら、明日は晴れる！じゃ、洗濯しよう。
明日は午前中だけ晴れるから、午前中のうちに洗濯を済ましてしまおう

(02:48):
とか、そういう感じで、もう何か洗濯物と戦ってるという毎日でしたね。
梅雨が明ける前の。
大雨というのもひどかったですね。
雷がドンドンゴロゴロ鳴って、
1晩中と雨が降っていました。

(03:09):
なんだか気象は激しくなっているような感じもしましたね。
フロリダの雨と変わらないハリケーンが来た時みたいな雨がダーと降るものですから、本当にびっくりしました。
今度は梅雨が明けて夏になったら、暑さがすごいですね。

(03:30):
35度、 6度は当たり前。湿度も高いので、フロリダより
ムシムシと暑いんじゃないかなと思いました。
もう洗濯と暑さ、これは日本で大変だったことの 1位 2位ですね。
その他にも楽しいこともあったので、次回は楽しいお話をしたいと思います。
