Lunchtimers. This is the Matt ThomasShow, twelve oh one in h Town.
What's happening to lunch timers? Goodafternoon to you, and welcome to
a Thursday edition to the Matt ThomasShow. This is Sports Talk seven ninety.
He's going to three to two,and Paris drives this one deep to
left center. Dubon is back onthe warning track looking up, and that

(00:24):
ball is gone through the archway andthen back onto the field. A two
run home run for Kyron Paris, and it is two to nothing Angels for
Paris. That is his first majorleague home run. Pitch on the way
and Dubon's looks this down and leftfield line Jess Fair and that'll bound into
the corner. Meyer's tearing for third, mort digging it out of the corner.

(00:47):
Myers gets the way from Garry Pettis. Here's a relion in all play
by netto not nearly a time.Meyers scores on the third goes Dubon and
he gets tagged out for the firstout of the inning, but the Astros
are on the board. Dubon willbe credited with an arm double. Let's
two to one, Angels. Well, maybe our highlights. Won't roll with
it, but we're gonna roll withit the beauty of technology, sir.

(01:11):
At least we got you. DanielMatthews. You are you are more polite
than I am, so I willlet you handle that portion of the programming
of this show because I know, man, I know how it goes.
You know. Look, I meanit's sometimes the errors are not our fault,
but nope, we're the offensive line. Gotta deal with it, not
counter dy McGovern. The man's gota precision machine back in that room these

(01:33):
end of the three is as gooda polling guard as you have in the
business. My man. Everybody,Matt Thomas with you here from Las Vegas,
not for work, strictly for pleasure. But the show must go on
because Ross said, I'm gonna takea couple of days for pleasure. So
when he doesn't work, this guyme has to work. And I've got

(01:53):
my buddy Dan Matthews in for metoday, with me today and tomorrow as
we will navigate these astro water thatDanny seven and three is an outstanding homestand
but I'm going to guess the homecrowd yesterday with a very fast baseball game,
did not come away going damn, that's a good homestand it's the autopsy

(02:15):
of the two that got away fromyou. I mean, I think that
the loss of the Brewers, allright, first place team in the National
League Central, you can deal withthat. It was not great how it
happened. The Bats didn't necessarily showup. Okay, fine, the Monday
one, and especially it's who allowedit to happen on Monday and why they
allowed it to happen on Monday. That's one. And then it's yesterday where

(02:38):
me and a lot of us included, dude, just get a hit with
somebody and it just get on basewith somebody in position and get them home.
And how many times we said thatthis year, but no dice Tyler
Anderson and that hesitant leg kick iswhat got them. Yeah, the Angels
are not very good. This willbe a series that you will be,

(03:00):
you know, kind of kicking yourselfto say that you could have gotten two
out of three. Now, rememberthe Astros and Angels are gonna play thirteen
times. And you know we're hereat Sports Talk seven ninety at least for
the most part to give you guysa levity. Put things in perspective.
If the Astros go, you know, ninety four against the Anaheim Angels or
whatever they're calling themselves these days, that's gonna be very good. There ain't

(03:21):
nothing wrong with ninety four. No, it's not, and I mean especially
too. That's winning baseball, whichfor the most part this season, at
least twenty eight times, the Stroshave not done. So if you're able
to find winning in any place,to be able to add to winning at
another place, then you can getyourself back into this thing. But I
mean, the truth of the matteris the way that the two out of

(03:45):
these three games went well, that'sbeen the better part of this season.
And that's what you get for playingthe way they did in both of those
games. Yeah. Well, thereality is again I'm not gonna sweat this
too much. I was stunned becauseI was flying Dark Breast Airlines yesterday and
I did not pay for the WiFi. I'm not a Wi Fi buyer on
planes, by the way, becauseI always feel like that when I do
it, the Wi Fi goes outand then you have to it's a federal

(04:09):
case to get your money back, and I'm like I'm gonna do it.
I'll just text on planes so Itexted a couple of people. I said,
what's going on with the score? What ending of the end? And
it's like, yeah, they lostalready two to one? Like what I
mean the game? I mean thatthing was going I have a notion Dan
did did Did the A team actuallyhave to close to work a full show
yesterday? Good for them? Yeah, we did have to put together more

(04:30):
than just the probably about allotted hour, hour and a half after an afternoon
day game. But no. Iusually on day games, I will go
to the park because, as youand most of our audience know, I
do on deck and tenth inning, and especially on getaway days, I'll try
to get interviews with players to useon said shows. So I did that

(04:51):
yesterday. And I'll usually leave aboutthe fifth inning and I get to my
car and it's about the top ofthe sixth Yeah, pull into the garage
because of Houston traffic NFC eighth inningand I'm like, oh man, that
was closer than I needed it tobe. And that was just the fast
pace of the game yesterday, andthat's what we got. I'll say this,
I was not a big fan ofthe pitch clock, but I'm telling

(05:15):
you it has changed the world ofbaseball for the better. We are not
seeing these three hour, three hour, fifteen minute games dragging on. I
know people don't like the Manford manrule. You know what, Get me
out of there at the ten innings. I don't need to be sitting around
watching, whether I'm at home orlistening on the radio or at the ballpark

(05:38):
to a fourteen to fifteen inning game. And those things are a thing of
the past. So for all thethings that Rob Manford gets crushed for,
and I think when we all growup, we're supposed to eventually hate every
commission of every sport. I mean, does anybody go, oh my god,
Roger Goodell, you're just the greatest. Thank you so much for doing
what you do for our sport. For football, probably the clowns that were

(05:59):
on the video in the background theCOVID year draft. Oh I'm commissioner.
Come on, I can't hear you. I think you're supposed to learn to
hate several things in life. Onewe're supposed to related, Yeah, anything
Dallas related, and anything commissioner related. Even Adam Silber, who is a
very affable person, gets crushed fora lot of things. But the bottom
line is you know the rules thatManford has put in. Now we think

(06:23):
the way he treated the Astros wascrap. And again, if it wasn't
for Mike Fires, that would havebeen no cheating scandal, because you know,
I'm going back and saying, youknow, well, we wanted to
go back and through that again. But bottom line is the recent changes to
the sport of baseball, with thepitch clock and the timeouts and the throws
over I'm throwing over different engagements,it has made the baseball sport a much

(06:47):
slicker game. And we're going tosee more nights like yesterday afternoon than we
will have ever seen five or tenyears ago. And for that, baseball
is in a better spot. Well, I mean it's also too and for
people, well, it's ruining thegame. All of that. I mean,
I don't know about you, butmost of us grew up playing on
a timer. When you grows like, who says it's ruining? I want

(07:08):
to know, Give me names.Who says it's ruining a sport? I
don't have names, But I mean, it's the making things up, then,
aren't you? Dan? Well,I don't think I'm making things up.
We've heard it from people of youknow. You know who you know
who doesn't like it is guys picturesbecause they're not used to it, and
you just make changes. H Theolder pictures are not used to it.
The younger guys. I mean,it's funny. Colin MQ, former astro,

(07:28):
I remember talking with him about thisvery thing, and he said,
the young guys coming up from theminers, They're like, what are you
guys complaining about? We've we're usedto this. We're good. Yeah,
yeah, yeah, all right. So here's the program for today. We're
going to do our Bernie Brian McTaggart'sgoing to join us at one o'clock today.
It's so weird. I'm in thePacific time zone, so it's ten
if I say ten ten or eleventhirty whenever it's two hours. You get

(07:49):
my drift on this. Sure,So we got that going on. We
have shut Jo bumb ass up atone thirty today, which we'll get too
as well. We got believe itor not today, get two FA and
we have again. I don't knowhow much interest there will be generally speaking
of NBA. So far, I'veross and I have talked about it.
Unfortunately, in the two months ofthe NBA playoffs. I think we've had

(08:11):
taken exactly zero calls about the NBAplayoffs, which is fine, but it
was an interesting to night last nightbetween Dallas and Minnesota. We have an
NBA coaching change already after a teammateof the conference semifinals. We'll get to
that. We also have the NCAAand Dan You're more on this than I
am, But if you were acollege athlete going back to twenty sixteen,
you're about to make some serious moneythanks to this class action lawsuit that was

(08:33):
filed. Yes, yeah, youknow, yet to do a significant deep
dive on it, but I meanit's a deal that you know, Jay
Billis and numerous others out there ofoh, we don't have the money to
pay the athletes. Well they're rejoicingtoday, Yeah, because they're going to
go back and get this. Andwhat they're going to do is they're going
to pay grips some schools because there'sgonna be some schools that are like,

(08:56):
uh, we have to contribute. But at the bottom line is it's really
the power conferences that are paying forthis most importantly. Uh, And that's
why I think you're gonna give seea further separation between the haves and the
have nots because of this. Butyou know, that's a great that's a
great debate for another day about this, And ultimately you're gonna get some compensation
guys that played years ago, andladies for that matter. But I think

(09:18):
ultimately, the long term financial platformthat is currently in college athletics, I
don't know who's gonna step in andfix it. It has to be fixed,
but I don't think anybody's gonna goto the forefront and say I've got
a great idea that's gonna do this. I think you're gonna get You're gonna
see a lot of schools that arein the Alabama's and Ohio states and Michigan
going completely rogue and saying will bethe ones that dictate how this goes and

(09:43):
the rest of you either you canstep up financially or you can say step
of the side. And I thinkunfortunately there's a story today in the Houston
Chronicle about my school and how we'rejust not We can't draw the same revenue
that other schools, even in theBig Twelve Conference can. At this point,
we're not a four member of theBig Twelve when it comes to financial
implications. So and you got topay out coaches, and you're and you're

(10:05):
trying to fund schools. I think, and I don't know if people even
particularly care, but we're going tosee some abolishment of school of some sports.
No, it's a one hundreds.Ultimately say we love you women's golf.
We think you're really cool. It'snice that we've got a nice tennis
team, but goodbye. Well,I mean, the one thing that could
fix this is college football just breakingaway and doing their own thing. NC

(10:28):
DOUBLEA won't do that because whatever connectionthey can have the college football, well
that's revenue for them, and that'smoney that they want. But I mean
that's pretty much what could help it, because I mean, college basketball it
pays, but it doesn't pay likethe other thing does. I mean,
as I talk with you right now, and you know we're talking a little
bit about the NC DOUBLEA accepting thetwo point seven billion dollar settlement, I'm

(10:52):
seeing that the CFP continues to licensegames to networks. I mean TNT talking
about them losing the NBA. WellTNT is saying, all right, fine,
we'll get into something else that's inour backyard here, in Atlanta.
We'll get into college football. Yep. So we got a lot to get
to. Today, Astros dropped twoout of three. I hope no one

(11:13):
back home is panicking because you're gonnalose some serious to teams. Shood lose
series two. It was the realityis the Mariners lost yesterday, the Rangers
got their ass kick yesterday, andyou're gonna go to Oakland down five in
the division. It was pretty somberas I took a little Pixie for her
morning walkthrough. I even saw aguy taking down his Astros flag and I
was like, come on, man, what are you doing? Wait a
minute, Okay, let's go backto the dog name Pixie. Yeah,

(11:37):
she's a sweet little puppy who namedyou with a girl. We already had
her with name because she was rescued. And it fits when the dog told
you the name was Pixie, Well, I mean the people who we rescued.
Oh yeah, okay, so yeahso and it fits too. If
you follow me on social and I'veposted pictures and videos a little Pixie,

(11:58):
it fits you know what you hate. I don't know if you've ever run
into this. Do you ever haveyour dog's name? And then you've got
friends that have their daughter's names orson's name after your name. It's kind
of weird. I've I've talked aboutthis before of people who name their dog's
human names, and it's kind ofweird. Name your dog, amand like
it's just not gonna work. It'slike, do you think your dog really

(12:20):
enjoys that? I mean, comeon it. The whole license of a
dog is that you can name themcool, funny names. Yeah, you
don't want to name your dog Karen. I mean, that'd be ridiculous.
Now. That's some dogs can developquite the needy and braddy personality on their
own and they don't need help withthe name. Yeah. Like, I
got a buddy of mine whose daughter'sname is Sadie, and my oldest dog's

(12:43):
name is Sadie. That's that's agood dog. Weird. It's just gonna
be honest with you. It's alittle weird, right, Yeah, I
mean that's it kind of weighs inthe territory of all right. I love
dogs as much as anyone, butthey're also they're not humans. Yeah,
seven one THI seven ninety seven onethree two one two five seven nine zero.
I hear that maybe the Jose ofBree you return, maybe delayed a

(13:05):
little bit. We'll talk more aboutthat coming up. Seven one three,
two one two five seven nine zeroword for Quality Home Products of Texas.
With all the nasty weather we've had, with all the palodages, don't you
think it's time for you to investin a Generaic standby generator From Quality Home
Products of Texas seven to one tothree Quality. It's an easy to remember

(13:26):
phone number. Just write it down, call them after my show. Seven
to one to three Quality four fivehundred dollars off the cost of a Generac
stand by generator right now, zerodown and zero percent financing for eighteen months,
all from Quality Home Products of Texasseven to one to three Quality,
seventy seven thousand satisfied customers. Thefive star reviews continue to grow. All
with Quality Home Products of Texas.Again, five dollars off, zero down,

(13:50):
zero percent for eighteen months on aGenerak stand by generator from Quality Home
Products of Texas seven to one tothree Quality. Lunchtimers, lunchtime, this
is the Matt Thomas Show. Allright, I'm gonna give you a choice.
You can either have the money andthe hammer, or you can walk
out of here. You can't haveboth. Can I tell you about Las

(14:16):
Vegas? Right? And I don'twant it necessarily because there are a lot
of people that have never not ableto go to Las Vegas or don't get
to go as often. And I'mvery blessed. This is one of my
favorite places on earth. This ismy thirty seventh time to ever come to
Las Vegas. You count your trips, Oh yeah, interesting, and I
think I've maybe even forgotten when I'mnot one hundred percent sure. Oh definitely.

(14:37):
So I'm coming back next month formy daughter's volleyball and then Ross and
I are going to do some showsout here in August for a couple days.
Excited about that. Talk about thatwhen you get closer to it.
But and Ross has brought this upbefore. Every time I come here,
while I still love it, itloses even less and less charm time.

(15:00):
And I don't know if it's necessarilybecause of the people per se. It's
just becoming more and more expensive tocome out here. You just can't catch
any deals. There's so many hotelsthat are full so much of the time,
and the restaurants. You remember whenwe were growing up and I'm a

(15:22):
little bit older than you are,but you could come here and really snag
a couple of decent deals when itcame to hotels, food options, late
night kind of stuff, and feellike, you know, you can't do
Vegas and the cheap, but youcould do it Vegas and the reasonable.
It's just not happening anymore. Myson, my son Peyton, who is
with me here in the room, and he's annoyed that I'm doing my radio

(15:43):
show right now. But that's adifferent issue for a different time. He
turned twenty one in January, andwhen he was in school at A and
M, so we decided to waittill he got out of school before we
made his twenty for his first tripever. Here we're staying at a hotel.
It's name after a state. Ithink you can probably figure it out
at this point. But there's aroller coaster here and he is a huge

(16:06):
roller coaster fan. One ride onthe roller coaster, Dan, do you
have any do you want to evenguess how much it costs? We did
it back in I want to saytwenty eighteen, so you kind of know,
yeah, okay, yeah, Oneride on this roller coaster that was
two minutes in length twenty five dollars. Jeez. Now, because we're staying

(16:30):
at this hotel, we got tobuy one, get one free. So
there's two of us for twenty fivedollars. What a deal? Not really?
Oh, they got to get theirmoney somewhere, Matt. So what
I wanted to do is I wantedto get him because he's not a gambler.
He does. I mean, he'sgoing to play a couple of hands
of blackjack with me. He maygo to the slots, but he's this
is not his jam. His jamis roller coasters and that for that.

(16:52):
Where we went and saw Ringo Starlast night. We're going to see Beatles
Circa in a couple of days.So this is kind of what We're going
to the mob Museum today after theshow. It's kind of a different trip
for me. I've always wanted todo that one. Yeah, so I'll
give you a report on that tome lace but everything is so insanely expensive,
So I wanted to buy on allyou could Ride pass because if he's
going to do this for a coupleof hours, then it's worth fifty seventy

(17:15):
five bucks. They don't do itthat way. You can get a second
ride for ten dollars. You couldget two rides for thirty five dollars if
you really wanted to, So itstill feels incredibly expensive to me. I
mean, I'm trying to remember backto the old six Flags day. Yeah,
you know how much it was togo to Astor World, And I
mean, and that was a plethoraof rides. And maybe even if roller
coasters weren't your jam, you couldgo to the Midway or do anything else

(17:38):
from there. But yeah, Imean I kind of feel like, you
know, all right, well, how about a little something for the effort
here? I mean, maybe liketwenty five five dollars for a ninety second
ride? Dan, I mean, good god. Well, I mean,
there's no coincidence. It's the oldcliche. That's why the buildings out there
are so large. And you know, all suckers like us, me and

(17:59):
you included, we go into saidbuildings thinking, oh, I got this
place, and then we leave sayingI don't ever want to come back to
this place. Yes, And thenall right, the last thing about this,
and then we're gonna move on backto sports in a breve here.
So we go eat right after andwe go to Bathan's hot Dogs. Okay,
we each get three chicken tenders, which were delicious, We shared some

(18:19):
fries, we got our own drinks. It was thirty eight dollars. Well,
I mean that's across the board. But wait a minute. So you
go to the hot dog joint that'sfamously known for their hot dogs, I
mean, Joey Chestnut, Kobayashi, everybody, and not at least one hot
dog between two of you. Iknow that's maybe I'm not the biggest hot
dog eater. It is what itis. I mean, once in a

(18:41):
while I get a good hot dogat a ball game is good. But
absolutely, like I said, Dodgerdog when I was on LA sucked.
Yeah, they're highly overrated. SoI would never choose if somebody's cooking hot
dogs on the grill at the house. It's all, but I would just
wouldn't necessarily go, hey, let'sgo get a Raithen's hot dog. And
the chicken tenders were damn thirty eightdollars for six tenders, a shared frying,

(19:03):
two drinks. I mean it justlike lose this charm. You would
be able to think, twenty yearsago, get that for maybe a quarter
of the car oh, I mean, what was it. It was a
lot of places that were famously knownfor what dollar ninety nine prime rib very
cheap steak and eggs at places allgone now they are. I mean,
you've got to go to old Vegas, even downtown Vegas to try to capture

(19:26):
some of that magic again. Maybeeven you go to Malice Station just around
the corner from you, just offthe interstate there. Yeah, all right,
real quick, jose A brag isgonna have a couple of minor league
games up. Sounds like, isthat right to Dan? That's what at
least it was sounding like from JoeEspada. And also, you know,
we had Dana Brown yesterday on theSean Salisbury Show and guess now, I

(19:48):
mean, as we had Chandler Roamon yesterday, he brought up the points
your landing spot. Good news foryou, Joseah Bray. You likely against
the best pitching staff in baseball onthe Mariners, and I'm sure the Astros
probably if you put them in theRoom of truth, would say, hmm,
maybe not the spot we want, especially given how huge this series could
be potentially now. But look you'rein it, and uh, you got

(20:12):
to bring them back and that's whereit sounds like they're going to bring him
back. We need to go overthe pluses and minus of this and when
we can come back, because Ithink we got to. We gotta share
both sides. Plus we get somemore phone calls in Jeff and Downtown will
start with you. Seven one threetwo one two five seven ninety seven to
one three two one two five sevenninety We have to realistically figure out how

(20:33):
the hell this is going to godown with jose A Brady's return. Seven
one three two one two five sevennine zero. I went to see Ringo
last night here in Las Vegas. And if you were looking for concerts,
if you're looking for sports tickets,if you're looking for theatrical tickets comedy shows
and you're not quite sure where theseats are going to be, or if

(20:55):
you can get a good deal online, well I'm gonna tell you you can
with game time. Game time dotco is the website that's gametime dot co.
Or you can actually download the appat game time and get yourself all
put together. When it comes togetting an amazing value for your tickets.
You can see exactly where you're goingto be sitting there's also last second deals.

(21:17):
There's also a spot where you canactually pick a zone deal, say
hey, here's where I want tosit, and we'll go from there and
they'll choose seats for you. Giveyou a little opportunity to save a little
bit of money there. So we'retalking about an authorized MLB ticket provider.
That's game Time. So if you'regoing to see the Astros maybe in Saddle
next week or sea planning a tripthis summer, or going to games at
Minute Made Park, I want youto use that game Time app. So

(21:41):
go get that app or go togame time dot co, create an account
and use the promo code sports MTand you'll get twenty dollars off your first
purchase. Now terms apply again, create that account and redeem the code s
p O r T s MT sportsMT and you'll get twenty dollars off your
first purchase. So download game Timeor go to gametime dot co for last
minute tickets guaranteed. And that's allfrom game Time. Well, I mean

(22:07):
that's a Joe question right now,but I would say right now, you
know Singleton's the first baseman, andyou know when we when he comes back,
you know we'll get him in somegames. We'll see how it looks.
And I mean if they both startto jel, then you know we
can we can work with the platoon. But you know, ultimately, uh,
you know, if you're hot, you're gonna play. If you're cold,

(22:30):
you're you're probably gonna sit. Youknow, That's probably how Joe's gonna
do it. I don't want tospeaks to Joe, but I'm sure from
our conversations you know you're gonna haveto produce in order to play. All
right, Well, I mean that'spretty much an obvious statement, and Glad
Dane has said it. I wouldassume you're not going to just continue to
throw Jose Oh Bray you out thereif he starts a series against Seattle over

(22:53):
whatever it is, one for elevenor two for seventeen. I mean,
we saw enough of that the firstmonth of the season. You know,
Dan, there are so many differentscenarios that we deal with in sports.
I don't remember having to deal withsomething like this for the Astros, or
for that matter, any of thelocal teams. It'd be like signing James

(23:17):
Harden to a mega deal like theRockets did years ago, and all of
a sudden He's hitting thirty one percentof his shots and averaging nine points the
game and turn the ball over sixtimes. I mean this is this would
be like signing CJ. Stride toa fifty million dollars a year contract and
the guy's got a quarterback rating offifteen. He throws the ball to the
thirteen three to four times a game. I mean, this is this is

(23:38):
a super tumultuous time. That's thatI would say. I was. It's
a tumultuous time right now for thefirst base spot for the Houston Astros.
There's many different layers to this, but the part that you just brought up
is the one that people focus onthe most. You really paid this guy
in nineteen and a half million ayear or whatever they paid him. And
it's also too where a lot ofthe brunts of the frustrating comes to Josea

(24:00):
bray You. I don't blame Joseahbray you for accepting the deal. I
mean, there's not a single personlistening to this. I'm not talking athletes.
I'm talking people who you get youroffer sheet put in front of you
for a job and the money isway above what you thought it was going
to be. You might kind ofsit back in your chair a little bit
and be like, Wow, that'sawesome, But you're not gonna say,

(24:22):
hey, this is too much. Can you guys take a little bit off.
You're doing yourself, you're doing yourfamily. You're doing everybody a disservice
if you do that. And that'swhat I think people are focused on the
most with them. But it's alsotoo it's exacerbated by Matt. He just
looks like he can't do it anymore. Like that's what really is the beginning
and end of all of this Ina few days down in West Palm Beach

(24:44):
and going to Triple A. That'snot gonna really curtail people's way of thinking
that this is all of a suddengoing to change. He was getting beat
Matt with just straight fastballs. I'mjust not here's my thing, Dan,
I'm not convinced. And again we'regonna keep a microscope on these minor league
gamdity players, but I'm not convincedgoing down to play against rookie league players

(25:07):
fixes somebody that just feels like, you know, you're I don't know,
you're playing professional tennis and you've lostlike nine tournaments in a row, and
all of a sudden, you wantto go play a fourteen underleague. I
just don't. I don't see wherethat all of a sudden a guy's mojo
comes back. You know, givehim some time at Triple A, go

(25:30):
to Double A. If you wantto keep him in the state, that's
fine. He doesn't want to goon the wrong road trips. I get
that, But hanging out in WestPalm Beach in batting practice and taking swings
against eighteen year olds or Domindician Academyof players call me a little leary of
what exactly went on down there. They come across as incredibly desperate to prove

(25:53):
this is a right deal. Andwhen you come back and you circle back
to who is trying to be righthere, well, let's call it who
it is. It's the man whotook credit for signing him. And he's
been in West Palm Beach working withhim. So it's one of those things
that, yes, they see ahint of improvement of his timing and everything
else, and they say, ohsee, yeah, he is much improved.

(26:17):
I think you're gonna see a differentJose when he gets back here.
And it's like I think you're kindof kidding yourself if you think that this
is all of a sudden gonna changefor the better. And while John Singleton
by no means has been great atfirst base, he's at least been capable,
and capable has been better than whatthey were getting, which was absolutely
nothing. Yeah, all right.General Rome was on with the A team

(26:38):
yesterday. He pined a couple ofthoughts about this. It's kind of a
mess. I mean, there's there'sno right time to do this. And
I understand that they and they werenever going to not give him another chance,
like he has to come back, like Joe said, like he has
to come back up. He acceptedthe option, he handled it with dignity.
The Astros have to rectick that theyhave to give him another chance.

(27:03):
And again they're not going to seewhether this has worked unless he plays now
to reintroduce him to major league pitchingin Seattle against the best pitching staff in
baseball that is primarily right handed. So if they can talk about all the
platoon stuff they want, like alltheir starters are right handed, so it
would lend it would leave me tobelieve that Jose of Brady is going to

(27:26):
get a lot of playing time inSeattle against the best pitching staff in baseball,
against the team you're chasing in yourdivision, very little room for error.
Let's talk to Robert and Katie inthe Matt Thomas shoe. Robert,
good afternoon. All right, man, uh I, you know, I

(27:49):
think Crane is just trying to dothe best get him back, because he's
been a large investment in a sureand he's just trying to, you know,
get some out of his investment.Last year, when was it when
a bray Hugh started hitting it?You know, we went through this last
year with him and then all ofa sudden he turned it on. And

(28:12):
I just forget what month. Ibelieve it was, what in August he
turned it on or we turn itout as a relative term, he was
better so but great, well heended up with it was seventy something in
our RBIs. But I mean towardsthe end of the season he was just

(28:33):
one of our great players. Werelike, you know, he was just
a band. You can count onit during the end. But I just
I don't know, I could couldthis be a bad thing for the for
the coach, for the manager ifhe puts many a flop. I mean
this, this effects a lot ofthings. Is not just you know,

(28:56):
just wondering everybody's gonna start getting onthe on the coach you get because you
know, bad decision. Well, this feels like to me, and Robert,
thank you for the phone call. This feels like to me, this
is out of a spot in hishands. That's the sense I get.
Because again, why would any manager, whether you have been experienced as a
ten year manager or a one yearfirst year guy, like a spot.

(29:18):
Why would you give a guy battingoh ninety nine any playing time at all?
Frankly, Well, I mean you'regiving him playing time because well,
you're paying him a ton of money. If you're paying him a ton of
money, well you might as welluse the car you got. This is
a this is a business decision. This is not a this team needs opray
you. Now, I do believea spotter when he says we need him

(29:41):
to be better if we're going towin this thing. Well, but you
also need a guy who is currentlyon your roster and is not going to
go down to West Palm Beach tobe better, and you're currently batting him
forth. So I mean there's otherlayers We've talked about this numerous times on
the A team, and I agreewith Wex on this, like, he's
not the reason the astro six gamesunder five hundred. No, but he's

(30:03):
also not helping you be six gamesover five hundred. And I mean that's
the reason why whenever there are thingslike this happening, you want to look
for low hanging fruit. Well, with Bregman, it's oh, you want
to contract hum Well, stop poppingup to the short stop. That would
be a start. Stop rolling overto third base that would be another start.
So I mean, I think thereis all of that, but you

(30:26):
know, the easy, convenient wayas well is hey, bagwell, thanks
for signing this guy. It's reallyworked out tremendously and in terms of what
he did last year, sure,he came up with some huge hits in
that final week of the season againstoh he had ninety RBIs last year,
but let's be brutally honest about this, he was terrible for the first month
and a half. He was awful. Well, I was, Yeah,
he was also in a situation wherehe had guys table setters in front of

(30:48):
him getting on the base pass.I mean that's why the RBI number could
be a little misleading because again, where you are in the batting order is
going to give you the opportunity toget more RBIs. And if he is
hitting fly balls or hitting groundouts butstill advancing runners, not granted that does
help it as a run score. But but I no one would describe Jose

(31:08):
obray Who's ninety RBI season last yearas a productive season. No one would
have if you watch any length ofAstros games, he had some nice games
late in the season. Yes,Game four ALCS last year, a three
run homer. You don't win thatgame because of him. I get it.
But it's also though too as well, you know you soon enough and
we've got the role. We don'tsay the back of the you know what

(31:30):
on the show, otherwise you getthe zapp. But stop giving me this
former MVP all of that stuff.Noted you said former. He's not that
guy anymore. So like, stopkidding yourself to a certain point. I
mean, you're in Vegas. Thisis a saying that goes in Vegas.
Fold the hand, you know youcan't win. It seems like to me
the Astro should have just said, hey, we got two six against pocket.

(31:52):
Ace's here we ain't winning this one, you go ahead and take the
stack. Well, you know what, I like your Vegas vacular very much.
But I'm going to tell you theAstros feel like they got a couple
of chips left and they're going allin just to see if they can get
something back in return. Because here'sthe thing, how long do you wait
on this? Now here we arethinking this is we're going largely last half

(32:15):
empty on this. I clearly understandthat the class half fool is easy.
If he's productive, he plays that. There's no way fans or butts.
If he's not productive, then whendo you ultimately pull the trigger and say
this isn't going to work out?Does he go back to the minor leagues?
Does he get dfade? I mean, what at that point would you
do? That's why I'm saying thisis a layer that I don't think anybody

(32:39):
would have ever anticipated and is probablyunheard of in the middle of a season.
Now, shab when he started tothrow the pick sixes, I want
to say, what did he havelike a year left in his contract something
like that. I think NFL Yeah, NFL deals are a little different.
This is all guaranteed money. Thiswould be eating if let's say, and

(33:00):
again we'll get to a time outhere. If let's say he comes back
and he gets he bats one twentyfive of the month of June, you're
looking at July, August, September, and all of that, you're looking
at about, I don't know, twenty eight twenty nine million dollars of lost
salary if you were to release him. Rich people aren't rich because they give
away money, and I mean that'spart of that as well. But the

(33:22):
other thing is, I mean productive. Would you take what you're getting out
of John Singleton right now? Ithink you absolutely would. But I think
that also too would leave a lotof people with a lot left to be
desired well, And that's what I'msaying. If he comes back, Singleton's
replaceable. There's just no other wayaround it. I mean, John's been
nice and it's hit some tape measuredshots and he draws walks and he's been

(33:45):
okay. But you're comparing him towhat how brutal Jose was in the first
month of the season. You're notwinning the aos with John Singleton at first
base. I don't think so.I don't think so. Seven one three,
two one two five seven ninety sevento one three two one two five
seven ninty. This is the MattThomas Show. Brian mctagger to join us
at the top of the hour whenwe return. I don't know if you've

(34:07):
seen this video, but we've gota certain golfer that I think got a
pretty bad little run of things inLouisville last week. We're talking about Scotti
Scheffeler. We'll talk about that nexthere on Sports Talk seven hunty, But
first want to tell you about thewonderful people in Galveston, Texas. And
you know that I do like Galveston. I enjoy going down there, running

(34:29):
houses, eating their amaze at theiramazing restaurants. The girls like to go
shopping on the strand. I've playedthe Galveston Course golf courses on several occasions.
Moody Garlands is one of our favoritespots, and the girls like to
go to Slitterbond two. There's somany different things you can do. Good
food, good eats, very verygreat and different accommodations for larger small families,

(34:50):
good hotels and of course uh thecondo Reynolds as well. All with
Galveston and in the easy to goto website to figure out what you want
to do exactly, from activities towhere you want to eat to where you

museum or the Grand Opera House. It's all available for you everything that you

(35:14):

day getaway, it's visit Galveson dotcom. Just check the website out for
me, and I promise you'll havea new appreciation for Galvison Islands. The
website again is visit Galveston dot com. Yo. This is but Bee and
my wife is the biggest fan ofthe whitest man in America, Matt Thomas
Man, Matt Short, Reckless,Ratchet and don't give them. We got

(35:38):
Brian mctagger to join us at thetop of the hour here on Sports Talk
seven. And we have also Shutyour bum Ass Up normally on Wednesdays,
but we have the day game yesterday. Daniel L have any candidates for Shut
your bum Ass Up Today? Ican think of a few, all right,
So get those ready. At onethirty this afternoon, if you have
some people you want to tell themto shut their bumb asses up or anybody

(35:59):
got time for that? All right. I don't know if we've posted this
on any of our social media's hereon the show, but this video of
Scottie Shuffer's arrest makes Louisville police looklike complete buffoons. Well, I've posted

(36:19):
it. He stops the car.I don't see anything where this police officer
was assaulted in terms of the carmoving, and again I'm not again,
I'm watching it for the first secondtime. Maybe I need to get even
a magnifying glass to something, butthe thought of his suffering injuries and pants

(36:45):
being ripped, Dan, I'm notseeing it again. I'm not seeing this
at all. I don't know what. I don't know what is coming up
because this looks like to me amassive reach by the Louisville Police Department no.
One thousand percent. And you knowthe other part of it as well,
is the video we've got you don'tsee it. And conveniently, BODYCMS,

(37:09):
we're not on for this supposedly happening. So if you want to try
to get people on your side interms of we were right in doing our
business the way that we did itthat morning. Then this is not a
good look for you. It lookslike you're making things up, is what
it looks like. It's it lookscompletely made up. I like it.

(37:37):
That's why when it happened last week, I know people want to rush the
judgment and everything. That's like, why don't we just watch a couple of
things, Let's see what's being released, Let's get more reports, as compared
to trying to make a decision onwhether or not Scottie Scheffler used privilege or
did something illegal or try to beDo you know who I am? I've

(38:00):
seen from the Darlington video to thisnew video that I've seen, I don't
know who this dude is, butGordia sent it to us. It's somebody
named John Neucci. He is alwaysa He's a lawyer, law attorney.
How about that. That's a blip. It looks like there was a massive
reach on this. So this isnot going to help with what I think

(38:25):
is a perceived problem of the andthe reactions on Twitter. And again remember
Twitter is can be cancerous frankly whenit comes to people judging off of things.
But there are people that are onTwitter saying, if Scotty Scheffler is
getting this sort of treatment and he'sthe number one player in the world and
is a famous human being, imaginewhat people in Louisville who are not famous

(38:49):
are getting treated to by the cops, which is making Louisville police look terrible
on this and that's that's not whatthe intended thought of this coming out was.
But people are going to rush tojudgment on that. Let's call it
what it is. We live inreality, right and the reality is the
people's perception of law enforcement is notgreat, and when you have situations like
this, it immediately elicits the responseof you got to get guys like that

(39:14):
off your force. Man, Imean, that is going to be more
cancerous to you than any arrests thatyou could possibly make. And I think
in this case right here, Imean this is kind of sowing that distrust
a little bit. Because we alwaysthrow around the term consider the source,
usually in a negative connotation, Matt, But in this case, consider the

(39:36):
source is Scotti Scheffler from everybody you'vetalked with and all of the reputation that
he has out there being a greatguy, being a great family man,
a man of faith, all ofthese different types of things that you wake
up to the news last week thathe's arrested, and you're kind of like,
that doesn't seem right, Like thereis something significantly wrong here if that's

(39:57):
the case, because that just doesn'tseem like is him. Oh, I
mean we hear about this all thetime during draft time. Oh hey,
are you concerned about this? Well, no, we're not too concerned because
it doesn't look like there's a pattern. He doesn't have that pattern, is
what I'm saying. Well, I'llsay this not to go the other direction
in this, but even people thatare good people, that are people that
have good reputations, can make mistakes. You know, he could have had

(40:21):
a quick trigger. He could havebeen, oh my god, this is
the PGA Championship, I gotta getin this course. What's going on here?
So even good people make improper decisions. I think in this particular case,
the video evidence would prove everything thathad happened. His story what he
said before he took the course andafter he took the course matches to what

(40:46):
the video says. So this Junethird hearing, I think is what it
is is going to be a verybrief conversation. I liked what I saw
on Twitter from somebody where they saidScotty won't ever need to flirt with live
because he's about to get live moneyfrom the City of Louisville. I don't
think it's going to get to thatpoint. I think it's going to be
a press conference like we've seen numeroustimes and situations like this, because what

(41:08):
district attorney doesn't love to get infront of cameras and microphones and they're going
to say the charges have been dropped, we apologize. Just a completely unfortunate
situation. It should have been handledbetter on our end. Maybe Scotty could
have done things on his end,but we're gonna move on. I think
ultimately there probably was a little bitof fault or better judgment could have happened

(41:31):
on both sides, because again,we're talking about something that's not a daily
occurrence, a PGA tour event,a major with thousands and thousands of people
trying to get into an entrance, and there's a fatality accident that happened hours
before. You know. No,I don't think you draw this up when
you're talking about getting yourself mentally preparedfor going into a tournament, and you

(41:52):
don't draw this up as a policeofficer. Now, there are certainly have
been accidents scenes, but I'm goingto assume they did. People in Louisville
didn't do a dress rehearsal of whatif somebody gets struck by a vehicle?
How do we get the golfers insoul. I will lend it towards mistakes
happen. I don't think, andagain I don't know the situation, so

(42:12):
I don't want to give a hugecomment on this, but I'm going to
presume that the police officer that waswasn't looking to try to mix something up
in order for him to come acrossas a hero. But the reality is
if he did, he made aterrible mistake, because there's a video evidence
that would show to the contrary. And that's why we said that when it
happened last week, let's slow down, let's not talk, let's not go

(42:37):
to stereotypes about golfers and white privilegeand police brutality. And I just didn't
want to do any of that.I just wanted to I wanted to see
something. And today the videos arecoming out that you know, validates what
Scottie Scheffler said. So just wantedto pass out along. And if you've
not seen it, take a lookat it for yourself, and I think

(42:58):
you'll probably figure out that, uh, this was a massive case of miscommunication.
I don't think heads should roll.I don't think anybody should be suspended.
I don't think there should be civillawsuits. You just say a bunch
of I'm sorries and you drop chargeson this. I don't know if it
works out that simple that way,but that's the way I would see it.
All right, let's get the secondhour the Matt Thomas year started in

(43:19):
moments. We'll talk to Brian McTaggarton the Mlbeat with astros dot com as
well at seven one three two onetwo five seven ninety seven one three two
one two five seven ninetie. Ifyou want to follow us on Twitter,
you may do though, do thatas well at Sports MT at Dan Matthews
hou that's with one T, andat Connor D mcgoverny. I want to

(43:39):
tell you about the Shell Federal CreditUnion. That's the company I've gone to
when it comes to financing my vehicle, one of my vehicles, that is
my daughter's car. And it's alsoa place you can go to. Are
you ready for this win some seriouscash. In fact, they give away

(44:23):

org. I use them. Youcan use them to join their family and
you might win some serious cash fromthe Shell Federal Credit Union lunchtimers. This

(44:44):
is the Matt Thomas Show. Whatthree Sports Talk seven ninety let's spend ten
quality minutes with our buddy, theone and only Brian mctaggard MLB dot Com
on the Astros beat with a littlebit of breaking news. Mister McTaggart,
The World Baseball Classic has announced itsfour sights for twenty twenty six in the
city Houston is one of them.Yeah, that just coming at the top

(45:07):
of the hour for the first timethe WBC coming to Houston. It looks
like some quarter final games. We'llbe here in town in March of twenty
twenty six and then the Florida LongDepot Park like they've been so. Yeah,
that was you know, that wasa pretty thrilling tournament, you know
what two years ago or last yearwhatever it was with the trout Taani battles.

(45:30):
So yeah, that's gonna be funin a couple of years, you
know. I can't wait for itas long as done a single Houston Astro
plays in it. I don't knowhow you feel about the World Baseball Classic.
That's just my own personal opinion.Yeah, it's a great event,
but I certainly think there's probably alot of people in the organization that as
far as pictures go, anyway, echo your sentiments for sure, Brian.

(45:53):
Two out of three series lost tothe Angels. Not great, but again,
the it's gonna happen. You're tryingto make up as much ground as
you possibly can here as the Rangersand Mariners are kind of struggling again.
Five going into the series against Oaklandtomorrow. Uh, you were there for
the game for the Hunter Brown.I was traveling. What did Hunter Brown

(46:13):
prove to you? And more importantly, what did Hunter Brown prove the organization?
Yesterday? Do we lose him?Yeah? I guess not a lot.
I guess are you there? Sorry? What are you doing now?
I'm at home here in my office. So I had a technical glitch.
Yeah, yeah, all right,go ahead. No, I think he
I mean, he sorely needed thisto sort of step up, and uh,

(46:36):
you know, say that he canbe the kind of picture that everyone
thought he could be when you know, especially the first half of last year.
Because he's strung a couple of thesetogether now and you know, like
I wrote on astros dot com,I mean they're getting close to some decisions
here on their roster because your kid, he's coming back, you know,
that's going to give him seven startingpitchers. That they have five off days
in June, so they might begetting away from the six man rotations just

(46:59):
because you know, if they canput at six, you're gonna have guys
pitching once a week. So theymight have to make some decisions regarding the
rotation. And you know, Browncertainly needed to help his case, and
you know he did that yesterday bythrowing six strong innings. All right,
so give me your thought on theroster projection once Erkidi comes back, and
now we've already got McCormick back, that was one decision. Ten. What's

(47:19):
gonna happen when jose Brady returns, either later this weekend or in the next
week. Yeah, I would thinkthat low Perfido probably goes down. I
mean, he's just not playing muchhere, and you know he's still a
guy that's developing, So I thinkhe put him back down there, uh
at Triple A. Get him inthe lineup every day for server Land.
I think that's what's gonna be thebest for his development. A Spot has

(47:40):
said that as much. At theend of spring training, when low Perfito
got cut from camp right towards theend after making a push to make the
team, he said best thing forhis development is to play every day.
Now. He's come up here andswung the bat very well and did everything
they wanted him to do. Butif he's not gonna play, he may
as well go to Triple A getit back. You know, he will
be back at some point. Asfar as Rakiti is coming back, I

(48:01):
mean that's still maybe another you know, maybe ten days away. Really hard
to say because a couple of thesestarters are gonna have more starts, but
I mean, Ara Getty's every startjust gets better and better. You're not
gonna do anything obviously with Pavier andfrom Er, even though they've struggled a
little bit. But h they havesome good decisions to make. They're about

(48:21):
to have, you know, sevenquality starting pitchers, at least guys with
some experience and uh, you knowsome guys are a couple of guys one
or two are gonna be bumped forthe rotation and competition brings out the best
of people, so it certainly willbe interesting when her Keti comes back.
Can you live with bumping Orkety backthe rotation in his normal spot and putting

(48:42):
both Arrogatty and Brown on the bullpenIf you were to go to that five
man rotation. Can you do that? Yeah, I'm not so sure.
I mean, do you do youreally want Aragedtty just to be I mean,
to be a reliever at this point, maybe pitching two or threetings here
or there. I mean, Ithink sort of like the low Perfito thing.
I think with ara Getty, whatwould be best for him would be
go to triple A. Take everythingyou've learned here in the big leagues and

(49:06):
the confidence that you built on it, and just wait for your turn next
time out, and that you knowthat maybe uh, you know, the
next thing most likely to happen.Because I just think stashing him with a
bullpen probably wouldn't be good for hisdevelopment. I think he can do that
a little bit easier with Hunter Brown. He came out of the bullpen in
Detroit a couple of weeks ago, pitched five innings. You know, he's
he pitched them a bullpen a littlebit last year as well, and even

(49:27):
I think the year before that, right when he came up. So but
I wouldn't do that with arag Gettyat this point because he's still developing as
a starter and he probably needs toget those starts and as many innings as
he can well selfishly tag he's myall interview team already as a rookie.
I don't want him leaving and goinganymore. So, Yeah, he's great.
I mean he his postgame interviews aregreat. I mean he really he

(49:47):
knows pitching. He studies pitching andall these guys do. But just the
way that he's able to break itdown and as honest as he is,
man, I hope they keep himin the rotation because, yeah, he's
fun to talk tough after games whenhe pitched, win or lose. All
right, let's get to the elephantin the room or you know, a
pound gorilla, whatever you want touse the cliched term. So whether a
Bray who shows up late this weekendin Oakland or goes and joins the team

(50:12):
in Seattle, the microscope, thebaseball fan in this town, the media,
anybody's going to be looking at everysingle of bat for Jose A Bray.
You. I don't think anybody wouldsay this was the right amount of
time. I think all of uscollectively, Brian, are surprised when quickly
it is. And maybe you're notin that situation. But let's go to

(50:34):
the glass half full, it's easyhe platoons or or inherits the first base
spot. Let's say he's out ofthe gate two for nineteen, three for
twenty four. I mean, itseems like an easy decision. But with
the dollars and the amount of faiththis organization still hasn't it's not gonna be
an easy decision. If the glassis half empty and he doesn't contribute,

(50:58):
yeah, I think you're at Imean, this is not going to be
an easy decision. You know, obviously sending him down to the minor leagues
wasn't an easy decision, but weall knew when he went down there that
he was going to get another shot. I mean, this was a veteran
player who agreed to go down tothe minor leagues and said, yeah,
I need to go down there andwork. And you think we've heard he's
he's been out there working in theFlorida Sun every day in the morning on

(51:21):
the backfields where you know, noone's cheering you, no one. You
know, there's not a reporter inside, there are no fans in site,
and just down there putting the workin. And if he comes back
up here, he's going to playJoe spot has said that the other day,
because the only way to find outif he's truly turned things around is
to play him every day. Butyou're right, if he starts two to
nineteen and he's striking out and rollingover and grounding out to the right side

(51:44):
of the infield, they're probably gonnahave to make a tough decision because they've
played really well since he was hewas gone Nest for a lot of reasons.
They've gotten healthy a little bit. Some other guys have stepped up,
but you know, John Singleton's donea nice job as well. So but
when he comes up here, heis going to play, and they're going
to write him in the lineup cardevery day, I would say, at
least initially, And if the resultsaren't there, then there's gonna be another

(52:07):
big conversation that's gonna have to takeplace on what you do with him,
because you still owe him so muchmoney, but you can't have him in
the lineup every day like you didin April when he was performing like that.
That's a segue, Brian, Andwhat is the puke point do you
think, Like when do you thinkthe astros say if it does not go
well, we can't do this anymore. We've got to completely make the nuclear

(52:29):
option here. Yeah, it's agood question, Dan, and one only
they know. I would imagine that, you know, maybe two three weeks,
they get to the end of Juneand it's just not happening. It's
probably never gonna happen at this point. And you know, what is the
what is the bar to keep himin the lineup is that you know,
hitting two twenty, you know, homer a week, you know ops and

(52:52):
six hundred. I mean that's youknow, still not great production from first
base. It's not even as goodas what Singleton's given you. Or are
you hoping that he comes up andis ops and seven fifty, homering twice
a week and you know, hittingthe ball, driving the ball to a
little more authority. Then you canlive with that. But when you have
Singleton playing as well as he is, not that you know, not that

(53:14):
he's making anyone forget about Bagwell orLann s Perkman. But he's done a
nice job. But they do oweit to a bray. You're just for
him agreeing to go down for theteam to reciprocate and say, okay,
you know, let's see what yougot. It is probably your last chance.
So that's uh, you know, that's probably going to be answered on
a day by day basis on howhe does. How long that leashes final
one from me Bregman, And youknow the last few games struggled there since

(53:38):
moving back into the cleanup spot.I mean, is that something that you
can continuously move him in and outof that spot or is it just now
at this point Joe's committed and hesays we got rivee with him. He's
got to get going no matter wherehe is in the lineup. Well,
Joe hasn't been hibou moving guys inthe line up. We know that.

(53:58):
We saw that early on with abray you right off the bat, moving
Bragman down to six, and hehit well down there. Even though they're
playing really well right now, youknow, they were seven and three on
a homestand which is exactly what theyneeded to do, and overall offensively their
numbers are still really good. Itwould not surprise me if Bregman continues to
struggle that Joe in the coming daysmoves him back down to the order,

(54:21):
maybe moves Panya back up, andyou know, just give Bregman a chance
to work this out like it happenedlast time. I mean, he's in
an zero for fifteen slump right now, but you know, popping the ball
up again. You know, acouple of weeks ago, he's really driving
the ball. He seemed really excitedwhere he was at the plate. But
he's back to sort of where hewas in April. And how much of
helped I don't know. But whenthey moved him down, the lineup got

(54:44):
him going a little bit. Andyou know, with the way that that
Joe's been not been afraid to movethese guys around it, I certainly would
consider it once again at this point, moving him back down, just to
see if they can get them goingagain. Last for me on this is
Joe in a position where and it'snot his fault, he's only trying to
put the best out there. Isthere maybe too much lineup shifting that it's

(55:05):
causing a little bit of hey wheream mine? Why don't need to come
to the ballpark every day looking tosee where I am? Or is that
just a byproduct of guys that aremaybe perhaps underperforming? And you know what,
too bad? If you're not performing, you don't need to be in
a certain spot in the lineup.Yeah, I think that's just sort of
the way it's been. I mean, aj Hinch moved to lineup around a
lot too. You know that DustyBaker did I know one thing that that

(55:29):
Joe said that he does, Andyou know, I don't know if he
does, if he's followed through withit, but I'm pretty sure that he
has is that he wants these guysto know before they come to the ballpark
where they're hitting. So I'm prettysure that these guys know when they go
to bed the night before they getthe lineup where they're going to be hitting.
But yeah, I think the daysof coming to the lineup and seeing
the same seven eight guys at thetop of the order and not changing,

(55:52):
you know, probably those days areprobably gone, especially with some of the
situations Gastros had with Alvarez moving fromleft field. pH You know, you
have to work McCormick in there alittle bit. Do Bomb's gonna get his
bats, you have, you know, karrat Key's got to get at bats.
So just for those reasons alone, you're gonna have a lot of lineup
changes. But I know that hewould like some consistency at the top of

(56:13):
the lineup with those four guys, and he really hasn't had that. He's
moved him around, he's dropped Bregmant. So I think that if he can
get the top four or five guyssettled, do most of the movement at
the bottom of the lineup. Butso far, you know, he's had
to probably do more lineup shuffling atthe top of the lineup that he would
like. But if Bredy can getgoing, maybe he can find, you
know, a combination out there thatworks great stuff. Has always look forward

(56:36):
to hearing with you and Dan tomorrownight on the On Deck Show leading into
that series against Oaklan. Appreciate thevisitors. Always talk in next Thursday.
All right, thanks, all right, you got it. That's Brian McTaggart
with us from MLB dot Com.You can hear him every Thursday with us
and every Friday before Astros on Deckgames right here on the Sports Talk at
seven to ninety seven five seven ninetyWe have shut your bump ass up coming

(56:59):
up in about fifteen minutes here onthe Matt Thomas Show. Right now,
I want to tell you about theMemorial Herman Medicare Plan. If you are
celebrating a sixty fifth birthday, orknow someone that is maybe your mom,
maybe your dad, maybe a relative. They're now eligible for Medicare and all

That's mhmdicare dot com. Memorial HermonAdvantage HMO is provided by Memorial Herman
Health Planning Corporated, a Medicare advantageorganization with a Medicare contract and the contract
with the state Medicaid program. Againthat website for the best Medicare coverage,

(57:45):
It's mhmdicare dot com. Matt Thomascontinues on Sports Talk seven ninety All right,
this is the Matt Thomas Show onSports Talk seven that we've got to
shut your bomp mass up coming upat the bottom of the hour, and

(58:06):
we don't want you to do Iwant to be obligatory NBA reference of the
show and Connor and Dan, youguys have a couple of soundbites from Charles
Barklay that nothing about the game itself, although she did basically he did basically
tell all the diva WNBA players togive Kaitlin Clark her shine because it wouldn't.

(58:27):
If it wouldn't for her, theywouldn't have any money in their pockets
and wouldn't have charter of flight. So that was kind of funny yesterday.
But there is going to be atelevision shift in sports with TNT losing the
NBA. It sounds like I don'tthink it's one hundred percent done, but
it sounds like it's ninety eight percentdone. That ESPN ABC is going to
keep their rights and there's going tobe a package of games on NBC and

(58:50):
there's gonna be a package of gameson Amazon. Sucks for us with ESPN
ABC. You say that because theircoverage sucks. Aside from Mike Breen and
the best thing they had they gotrid of in Jeffy and Gundy agreed.
The studio shows are terrible, YEP. And it became even more terrible this
week with Hey, I mean,we already know our viewing audience so much

(59:15):
because everybody just loves Stephen A.Smith, which I don't mind him,
but like to showcase him in thatnixt game like anybody could care any less
about his involvement in that game, which was zero, by the way,
And I mean just the analysis,if you even want to call it,
that is awful. I mean, people want to get on Kendrick Perkins all

(59:37):
the time. What he said aboutBronnie James the other day was one hundred
percent true, and then everybody inthat studio, Oh, he's the best
score of all time. Okay, that's great. What is his sun done
to deserve all of this? Yeah? All right, So needless to say,
it's the show we've all grown upwatching and if we were any sort
of NBA fan, So Dan,if you could lead into this, these

(59:57):
are a couple of soundbites from Charlesmarked exactly about the future of television,
and one of them is about ErnieJohnson. Is good, buddy? Is
that correct? Yes? It is. But we're gonna go first with,
of course, the news that happenedyesterday where it sounds like that twenty four
to twenty five can be the finalyear of the NBA On TNT, and
Charles talked about the future and whatit means going forward. It sucks right

(01:00:22):
now for the people I work with. Man, it just sucks right now.
There's nothing I can say, youknow, because I'm worried about all
the people I work with. Youknow, Man, I'm sixty sixty one.
I just turned sixty one. Igot enough money, and we ain't.
I don't even look at it asgetting fired. Frank I said,
Damn, I get to play moregolf. But I really feel bad,

(01:00:45):
man, because you know, we'reprobably gonna lose two hundred people gonna lose
their job returner if we lose,if we lose to NBA. And he's
not wrong. I mean, youknow, there's a lot of different factors
to this, but speaking on itfrom experience, the market that I was
just in is exactly where Turner is. The fabric of Turner, CNN,

(01:01:05):
everything that was there in Atlanta isslowly unraveling and going away, and it
s as interwoven into the fabric thatis the city of Atlanta, then the
network that all of them are underthe same umbrella. And he's not wrong.
And it's also too with Ernie Johnson. People are just thinking, oh

(01:01:27):
well, Ernie will just go toESPN or to you know, to NBC
or somebody else. I'm gonna letyou hear what Charles has to say about
that, but I also have someother notes on that. First of all,
I know Ernie would not go anywhereelse. You know, Ernie's almost
seventy years old. I think he'sgonna retire sooner than later. I don't
think he would go to another network. And I don't know what's gonna happen

(01:01:50):
with Amazon, ESPN or if welose it to NBC. I just don't
know. I don't think. Imean, Ernie would not go to another
network. I'm damn sure about that. But I would listen before I made
any decisions. And with Ernie,I mean, it's one of those things.
I made the joke on the Ateam last week, Matt that he

(01:02:10):
comes with the he comes with thefurniture at Turner, like if you have
anything Turner sports related. Ernie Johnsonis part of it. The serious side
of it. Why he wouldn't doit? He has a special needs son
that requires constant care. I don'tI'm not sure about that, but yeah,

(01:02:30):
I think he did. Okay, well I think you did. Sorry,
sorry to hear that but I justknow that Ernie is very much connected
to the city of Atlanta. He'slived there his entire life. He's very
deeply rooted in his family and alsotoo as well. Exactly what he said,
I mean, I think Ernie kindof looks at it as why do
I need to chase? I don'tneed to chase anymore. I've made a

(01:02:51):
ton of money, I've had agreat career. If this is it,
okay, fine, I will enjoythe rest of my days. Well,
the reality is Ernie's is, asCharles said, is close to seventy,
and he's been a Turner all ofhis life. His dad was a Turner
employee as well. So my guessis there's an in same amount of loyalty
that goes towards that. And again, if Ernie's forty eight, he's probably

(01:03:12):
changing his tune. But he's seventyand it's more money than he ever needs,
and he's been treated very well byTurner. He can still work the
baseball stuff and whatever and be justfinal. He'll they'll sell the n the
NCAA tournament coverage. So and again, I don't know, honestly how many
people generally care, but it's alittle. I thought it was anecdotal for
us to talk about because so muchof sports, besides the x's and o's,

(01:03:36):
it's about entertainment. And you cansay that maybe Charles and Kenny and
Shaq don't have a firm grip ofwhat's going on in the NBA because they
just don't particularly care. I mean, they literally get on the set and
will just say whatever they want tosay. Probably not du a tremendous amunt
of research on it, but they'regoing off of their name and their stature.

(01:03:57):
With that being said, it's themost entertaining pre half post show in
the history of television. It's genuine, I think, is really what it
comes down to. It's genuine. It's not forced, it's not contrived,
which same deal all in one.But I mean, I think that people
appreciate that. I think, ifnothing else, what we've gotten to in
our content choices for sports Matt isthat people don't want to be preached to,

(01:04:21):
they don't want to be lectured, they don't want to feel like they're
basically in class, and some peoplethink that that's what this is supposed to
be. I think that people likethem, like the pat McAfee show.
That's why they're so popular is becauseyou just feel like you're around friends,
like you feel like that this isa fun conversation that's being had and there's

(01:04:43):
funny things being said. It's notforced, and that's what we're losing with
this, and that's what sucks.Yeah. Yeah, So I just wanted
to make a note on that thatwe're going to probably lose the greatest show
regardless of sport. Now. Iwould say the top two would be College
Game Day on a ESPN and theNBA Show. Everything else would be a

(01:05:04):
distant third. When it comes toall time studio shows, I'd agree with
that. It makes a big differencein your in your television viewing. I
don't know, but it just it. When those guys get together, it's
pretty damn funny entertaining. No,it's awesome. I mean it's I mean,
for the other show that you mentioned, College Game Day, I mean
that is college football. I mean, the the first thing you do as

(01:05:26):
a college football fan during Saturdays inthe fall is what are Lee? What
are Kirk? What are the guysdoing? Where are they? You know,
what's McAfee gonna do? Is hegonna jump off a boat somewhere today.
I mean, it's it's it.I would say that kind of college
game day really brought that possibility tothis business of Hey, we don't need

(01:05:46):
the hard hitting stuff people. Ifyou want the stats and everything, you
can go find that anywhere else.Exactly. You don't like, you don't
need that from me. What youneed is to be two things that are
the most important in this business.Inform and entertain and the second part.
If you can do that really well, the first part you can kind of
wing it a little bit. Thereyou go, all right, let's do

(01:06:08):
this. Let's wing out a halfhour of shutting people bum asses up.

To the Las Vegas cab driver thatI took yesterday when we landed in Las
Vegas. First of all, Itried going to the cab because Vegas is
a cab driven town. Going onboober or on rift is a little bit

(01:08:19):
of a pain because it's a hugewalk. I get in the car,
the predetermined fee is already twenty sixdollars to go maybe two miles. Then
I want to use my credit card. They charge a three dollars credit card

(01:08:39):
fee on top of it. Soyou're telling me a normal a cab driver
of a ten dollars was gonna benow twenty nine dollars. I said,
ain't nobody got time for that.So then I get the guy one hundred
dollars bill. I said, Ineed you to make change. He goes,
this is my first ride of theday. I don't have change for
that. Shit, you bumass upMay. You're lying to me. Shit,

(01:09:00):
Jo, bum ass up man,No wonder we hate you cab drivers.
You lie. There's no way youstarted your first cab drive at three
o'clock in the afternoon. No chance, no way, no how you wanted
me to pay that credit card fee. Shut your bump ass up man.
Shit, Jo, bum ass upman. And I'm driving. I'm gonna
use rift and I'm gonna use booberI for for the rest of my life.

(01:09:23):
I'm not driving it. Just goodluck Las Vegas, Cabby, good
luck no one of your business andthe crapper I mean, if nothing else
too. If if you want toincentivize the giving cash, well then yeah,
I mean you need to have likethe little bank bag with you or
something that's got change in it.I mean that's yeah. I'm sorry you're
driving around town. If even itwas your first rather day, you've got

(01:09:45):
no change at all. Shut yo, bum ass up May. Do you
get on Joe bum ass up man? Do you get on the kids all
the time about not having cash becauseyou know, us millennials and Gen z
ors, we don't carry cash. It's fine, I carry cash, but
it is what it is. Ithelps me budget my life. So I
cash because I was going on withthe casino. You can't, but my

(01:10:08):
dad started to do a casino machine. No no, no, no,
no no, you can't do thatalso too, I mean those ATM fees
there are exorbitant. I always gothe envelope system. It's also to to
kind of balance me for not goingClark Griswold with it. And if say
I have a bad first day, well whatever, I allauded myself that envelope
it's gone. It's good for you. Yeah, yeah, I just I

(01:10:30):
try not to because if I'm goingto do the ATM at the casino,
I'll do a one time trip. That's it, and it's not going to
be exorbitant. It's all right. What's the matter with you? Dan?
My issue is more in line withthe an Nobody got time for that.
Slow drivers on the freeways, likeI just I don't understand if you're getting

(01:10:54):
on a freeway and doing less thanthe speed limit whatsoever, even if you're
in the far right lane. Buton top of it all too when there
is zero traffic whatsoever, And itseems to always happen on the North Loop
coming off of forty five or evenon the Kadie Freeway going west that we

(01:11:15):
never get above sixty miles an hour, like we do realize the speed limit
is there, I get it.It doesn't mean that you have to go
woefully below it. So for thedrivers in this city, let's at least
go sixty. And I've actually evenhad as well. I've been stuck in
a far right lane of somebody goinglike for forty, Dan, we got
a over breaks. Oh no,no, no, no, I'm wrapping

(01:11:35):
it up here. I'm about tosay that time if you're nine in an
explanation, let's go. I needa human size slingshot to catapult these people
into a wall. Because if you'renot going to go at least the speed
limit, then you need to learna hard lesson. And that's one of
them. Gotcha, all right,Connor, what's the matter with you?
I know I'm kind of beating adead horse here. I'm sure Dan knows.

(01:11:57):
But if you heard the show openhighlights fire how I wanted them to,
and it didn't sound very good.I tried to prepare and listen to
the songs ahead of time while I'mproducing it live. Uh so, ain't
nobody got time for computer freezes orblips. I I tossed my headphones in
anger, he said, the show, and so help me God, if
it happens again, I'm gonna snapthem the mouf. Hey, nobody,
anybody got time for this wonderful companywe work for with the crappy equipment they

(01:12:23):
gave us. Ain't nobody again putit. Ain't nobody got time. Ain't
nobody got time for us producers gettingblamed for it either. And by the
way, credit to me for notblaming, because I know, because I
heard those sound bites. I knowexactly what happened. I appreciate it.
Matt, you're pro Matt, Iwouldn't say that. You don't. You
don't throw your guys on the butt, I mean I will, don't worry.

(01:12:43):
I couldn't. I couldn't get tothe s there because I quickly dismounted
from that one. Yeah, youknow, I'm gonna throw it into the
bus as soon as easily easily.Sometimes it's warranted. Yeah, seven one
three, two one two five seven, And I got no one for you
resort fees at hotels? What amI getting for forty ninety five a night?
Internet? Hey? Re you rokRoark, shut your bumb ass up.

(01:13:08):
Anybody got man? Yeah, Idon't have a refrigerator in here,
I don't have daily waters, Idon't have a coffee machine. I ain't
got squat. So they're really sayingthe internet right, Yeah, and I
could print my boarding pass out formy plane. Well who does that anymore?
Everybody does on their phone. Iwas gonna say, yeah, I

(01:13:30):
mean, I'm always one of thosewhenever would you like a paper copy of
your No, I'm not ninety,I'm good. I can just show on
my phone. Seriously, this resortfees. When when I checked in yesterday
to be bor Be Bork, Iwas like, are you kidding me?
And I knew they were resort fees, but I'm like, what do you
get for it? Oh? Youget it? You're getting a hand sci
fi. Screw that. I goto five JEP. Just fine, at

(01:13:51):
least give you a coffee and amuffin in the morning. Did they even
start being the uh u essay todayout in front of your door? No?
Oh, none of that, Noneof that. No ray, I
get no rup downs, I getnothing. I had no ice in my
machine, I got zero. Ithink there's people that hand out cards on
the strip that can tell you aboutthe first part that you just mentioned.
Probably so Brian in Paarland, Brian, what's the matter with you? Matt?

(01:14:16):
This one is directed at Promber Valdezand now I did have a quick
question for you regarding the NBA.Promber, you do not have the caliber
of Justin Berlander to be tinkering forthe game plan and going rogue and giving
up seven runs. So Promer, ain't nobody got time for you? And
living on a game plan and gettingshelled in one ending by the Angels.

(01:14:41):
Brian, get it out. Andthen Matt, Matt, do you know
what the if the NBA does comeback to NBC. Do you know does
the round ball Rocks stay with them? And do we at least get a
return of that as the one positiveto going to NBC. That's not a
bad question, Brian. The question. The answer is round Ball Rock is
used on Fox College Basketball, whichis a complete waste of time. The

(01:15:05):
next time I watch Fox College Basketballwill be the first time. Sorry,
I'm not interested in Georgetown, DePaul. On Fox, you get Gus Johnson
at least, I mean that's good, But do I want to watch Big
East Basketball All hell No. JohnTesh was on Levatar the other day it

(01:15:25):
said that they do have an orchestrawaiting in Nashville to re record Round Ball
Rock LFG. That'd be the onlypositive benefit. Seven one three two one
two five seven ninety Tom, what'sthe matter with you? Okay? Normally
you can pretty much say this aboutthis show every time it's on air,

(01:15:45):
but they don't come into sports often. I'm saying Sonny Holston from the View
with the worst WNBA take of recenthistory, that Caitlin Clark's success is chopped
up to white privileged and pretty privilege. What Sonny Hoilston, Shut your bumb
ass up? Who Sunny Holston is? Nor do I particularly care what?

(01:16:10):
Remember what I said earlier about consideringthe source? Who is that? That
applies here? She's on the View? Do you watch the View? No?
Because if you did, I wouldhave told you to shut your bumb
ass. I'm gonna make a timefor the View. No. The first
time I watched the View will bethe only time, and we will be
the first time that I watched theView. No, but you know that
you know what that is. That'sjust five angry bitches on one TV show.

(01:16:34):
Disney's got enough people who are notgood at talking sports. They don't
need any more help. Wow.Uh uh uh, damn the sheesh seven

(01:16:54):

something. Is the history of thisshow goes along. We ain't talking about

come for me. Could you imagine? Could you imagine five men bitching about
women for two of for an hourevery days? Maybe this show I was
gonna say, I mean, Ithink there's probably, in totality a lot

(01:17:16):
of that. Uh yeah, thatprobably is. That was probably a bad
guess on my part, all right. Seven one three two one two five

to call in? Is that whatyou're trying to do? No? I
think Ross is Ross is on aconference, all right now, so good
for him. He will he willbe unavailable, So anybody that wants to
get in literally anybody seven three twoone two five seven ninety seven one three

(01:19:09):
two one two five seven on eightDan, anymore from you before we go
back on the phones. Yeah, speaking of callers, Mike who called in
yesterday and said that he would tellAlex Bregman, look here, boy,
you are moving out of the fourspot number one. Mike, you would
not be the Astros manager much longeror even be the Astros manager. And

(01:19:30):
for that, shut your bum assup shit. So bum ass up man.
We just needed a remix. That'sall we needed. We just needed
a remix. Okay, yeah, how about eighty five percent of Astros Twitter
shut your bum ass up shit,so bum ass up man? How else
are we? It's pretty good,Fifteen's not bad. Eighty five is pretty

(01:19:54):
lousy. I've had my contributions. Is that a good percentage of No?
No, yeah it is. Imean one of my favorite things is like,
say, for example, Bregman popsup to end it ending, I
immediately go to Twitter just for entertainmentpurposes. Don't do that. It's not
it's not coming at me, soI don't care. Yeah, well,

(01:20:15):
I'm gonna start sending some stuff yourway then, Steve and Seabrooks. Steve,
what's the matter with you? Acouple of weeks ago, went to
the astro's game, had my beersitting in the cup in the behind the
seat in front of me. Yes, a girl with a girl with middle
of her back hair kept dragging herhair across the top of my beer.

(01:20:35):
Hey, yeah, ain't nobody gottime for that. Ain't nobody got time
for hair and a beer? No? No, oh, my wife reached
out and grabbed had a handful ofhair and pulled it to get yes or
no? Probably, Thank you verymuch, Steve, You're a good bad

(01:20:59):
Only hot girls put hair in yourbeer, right, Ross or not?
Ross? You're Dan? That's allright. My mom used to call to
my brother's name, so I'm usedto it. Probably not. I mean,
I don't know where your hair hasbeen. I spent a lot of
good money on that beer, SoI'd like to join my Crawford Bach hair
lists, especially if he's got productin the hair. Seth on seven ninety

(01:21:19):
seth, what's the matter with you? Well, that's up, guys.
I got two of them. Bothof them happened at the Astros game Monday
night. First to the two ladiessitting behind us that were constantly talking about
Taylor Slip and her new album.Come on, ain't nobody got time for
that when we're out of the baseballgame, anybody got time for that?

(01:21:43):
And secondly so the drunk guy thatsuggested to trade Mauricio Dubon for another bat,
cut yo, bomb ass up andgo learn about baseball. And by
the way, I'm not anti TaylorSwift. I have a family of Swifties,
so I'm not ant, but youjust do you. I want to
get into my mid my middle sonPainting's in the room and he's like,
he's shaking his head like he's nota Swifties, So I should say,

(01:22:04):
up majority, we would have anyminority of Swifties. But yeah, you
don't bring up Taylor in a concert. No ever, zero, No,
not going to happen. Matt inSpring Branch, Matt, what's the matter
with you? Matt? Can youhear me this time? Yes, sir,
good because a couples ago I calledfor shut your bumb ass up.

(01:22:25):
I had a pretty fire James andGarden Oaks Impression lined up, but uh
schmisch, Morizen network wasn't working verywell, and it came across all little
badic and digitally and just totally ruinedthe whole bit. So anyone got time
for your cracking service for Horizon AndI got one more, you know,
one more for you cutting mister DanMatthews eloquent rant about Houston traffic short,

(01:22:49):
shut your bumb ass up, Matt. I wanted to hear it. Yeah,
Joe, bum ass up, man. The show's three hours, Matt.
I can't listen to Dan Matthews breakdowntraffick for forty five minutes. So
Matt, shut your bump ass up. It's only gonna be like I was
rolling man, And yeah, itwasn't that great. It was a decent
sort. It wasn't one of yourbest stories. No, I feel like
it was. It was a significantrole there, and you gotta let me

(01:23:11):
finish the line. Well, youknow what, then tell me to shut
my bumb ass up. I canaccept that. Oh, I think Matches
did it for me. Thank you, Matt. I like the callers defending
us sometimes I love it. Yeah, I don't know. It's it feels
like you're trying to kiss your offensiveline never gets any love in any love
the office. Somebody's asses should bemine. Let's go to Jimmy and Tom
Ball on seven ninety Jimmy, what'sthe matter with you? Man? Ain't

(01:23:34):
nobody got time for the San Norfleetshow this morning? During the middle of
one of his horrendous baseball takes,he just mixes up Garcia and Jose Arkety
and kind of blows it off like, well, you know whatever, you
know what I mean, kind oflike, no, what you're just saying
they're the same to you because they'reboth Mexicans. Is a white dude.
I can't just go mixed up KimGrippy Junior and Barry Bonds and act like,

(01:23:55):
oh, just two black dudes, you know what I mean? So,
man, shut your bomb ass up? Man ship Oba, Man's up.
Man, This makes me uncomfortable.I like, Stan stands with my
guy. He just he's my guy. I'm just gonna say he's my guy.
But well, first of we allmake mistakes. Secondly, he wears

(01:24:18):
his heart on his sleep, that'sfor sure. Let's go to Bill on
seven Hoy, Bill, what's thematter with you? Hey? Man?
I've been calling for the last monthor so, man, and y'all haven't
had no good chickens in a while. Man, Come on, go for
it. Bill, I got timefor it. Bill is Bill is unhappy

(01:24:45):
because the amount of musical acts we'vegiven away, I'm believe it or not,
do not fit his genre. Allright, that is right in my
wheelhouse. And Connor McGovern knows this. I've said this time quick PSA.
You call into a radio station,we have offered you something. There is
no blurred lines there. We havetold you what we're offering. Do not

(01:25:11):
call in and then say, oh, you don't have any of these.
If we had them, I wouldhave given them to you. I agree.
Huh. Ain't nobody got time foranybody? Get up and saying,
oh, you don't have any moreAstro tickets astros dot com for that,

(01:25:35):
and we got Astros tickets. We'llsay, hey, fifth caller, Astros
tickets, Yeah, get them, get them. And also another thing,
ain't nobody got time for? What? What was the question, Oh,
bye bye, you're getting hung upon bye Anthony Hobby airport. What's the

(01:25:58):
matter with you? Donal's Anthony getsBrad? You found him? Get out
of here, Brad Brad on myObama, shut my man's up for whatever
it not my kind of say upman, prank call pranking up drank.

(01:26:21):
Hello, Alex, what's the matterwith you? To the girl that I
went up to Dallas to visit uhlast weekend, who immediately after she got
hers, stopped the interaction and said, so, where do you see this
going? Girls? You live inDallas and I live in Houston. You've

(01:26:41):
known this for years and now younow you're going to ruin my party after
you already had yours death messed up. Ain't nobody got time for that?
Wait a minute, way, way, way, way way. She got
your hers, you didn't get yours, and then she's talking relationship. Damn.
He quickly takes time for that. And by the way too, I

(01:27:05):
mean, Houston's got millions of peoplehere. Why are you driving the Dallas
man? Well, I mean,if it's good up there, you gotta
get it. I mean, I'mnot arguing that, but you got to
I've done the long distance relationship myself, but I mean, I don't know,
but you don't ask that after afteryou've not you know what I mean.

(01:27:26):
It's not reading the room I'll giveyou that. James and Kling.
What's the matter with you? Yeah? All the money you make and you
didn't rent a car when you wentto Vegas. Shut your bumb ass up.
No shut rents cars in Vegas. That's dumb rents cars in Vegas.
Cabs, cabs and walk that's Vegascabs, walks, ubers and lifts.

(01:27:47):
Somebody only dumb asses rent cars inLas Vegas. Maybe take that, Maybe
take that monoail that nobody takes. That's true. What's the matter with you?
What's going on? My guys?Hey, so we check this out.
I'm listening to this and I'm hearingeverything, and I'm all get on
your side, Matt and Dan.I'm gonna get on your side. And

(01:28:08):
what tell the little boy that wascalling and dripping about the dagum tickets?
You know what, you work ashard as everybody else, Go buy you
some damn tickets. Check your bamNFL. There you go. Get him,
Bill, Get him Raymond. Bill. You hear that they're calling you
out. Calling of the day rightthere, Raymond. Joaquin, Last but

(01:28:28):
not least, Brad, what's thematter with you? Brad? That's pretty
good. Somebody calls the show. You know how famous I am. I'll
always be there, Matt. Butyeah, I bought uh let's call it
a flitsuit BESI back in December.Well, the FM park just went out

(01:28:50):
like nothing. I end up goingto one dealership here in town and they
go, oh, you didn't knowthose are three years thirty thousand, and
they all go out. I went, what, Well, I took it
back to the one I bought it, and they go, that's a thousand
dollars. He didn't even bother toget in the car and look at what's

(01:29:10):
what the dealer is. Well,I go buy a battery. This is
damn made story right here. Jesus, Will this ever ends? God?
No, I just buy a batteryyesterday and I leave the where the place
where I and the FM's on andworking. I could have spent one thousand
bucks listening to this idiot who didn'tbother to check how the FM radio acts.

(01:29:33):
He did back on instead. Idon't know how it came back on,
but just by getting a battery,it came back on. Nobody got
time for your idiotic non knowledge ways, mister mitsu freaking Beachy. Hey,
nobody got thanks, Brad, thatwas worth waiting for, wasn't it?

(01:29:53):
Friends? Damn Matthews is like Igot that whole thing figured out. That
was a great call. Hey,sometimes storytelling is a skill man. All
right, let me tell you aboutBig City Wings. Let's go eat.

This is the Matt Thomas Show. He's going the three to two and

(01:31:00):
Paris drives this one deep to leftcenter. Dubon is back on the warning
track looking up, and that ballis gone through the archway and then back
onto the field. A two runhome run for Kyron Paris and it is
two to nothing Angels for Paris. That is his first major league home run.

(01:31:21):
Pitch on the way and dubon' slocksthis down a left field line Jess
Fair and that'll bound into the corner. Meyer's tearing for third more digging it
out of the corner. Myers getsthe way from Kerry Pettis. Here's a
relianding'll play by netto not nearly intime. Meyers scores on the third goes
to Dubon and he gets tagged outfor the first out of the inning.
But the Astros are on the board. Dubon will be credited with an RBI

(01:31:43):
Devil. It's two to one Angel. He's featured that fastball quite heavily this
afternoon. Brown trying not to losea dell here the payoff pitch twigging get
a mess went to another fastball, and Adele goes down on strikes three strikeouts
for Brown as he completed six innings. Carsias set delivers at O two brown

(01:32:05):
ball, softly hit left side, charging Powis shortstop has it, throws to
first in time, and that isthe ball game. For the first time
since April of twenty twenty two,the Angels take a series from the Astros,
winning two out of three, includinga two to one victory for the
Angels this afternoon. Astros suffered justtheir fourth loss in their last fourteen games.

(01:32:27):
Gotta roll with it, gotta doit. You're not You're gonna want
to win two out of three.Win you can, but sometimes you can't.
Steve Winwood doesn't get enough credit,by the way, thank you for
saying that. By the way, that's a great call on your part.
Steve Winwood what mid to eight lateeighties singer. Yeah, he was pretty
much in that Phil Collins yeh yeah, yeah, yes, not nearly as

(01:32:51):
successful, but pretty damn great ofreal quick. It was like we gotta
get to uh the Astros and abray you and when he's gonna return and
whatnot. I went and saw forthose who don't know, I put this
on Instagram, my Facebook page.I didn't do it on Twitter because I
don't want. I don't want peoplehate Nummy just because just Twitter's just angry

(01:33:11):
sometimes. But I went and sawRingo Star on the All Stars yesterday,
saw The Sudden and I and arelative in San Antonio. We all were
here and Ross did not go becauseRoss doesn't like Ringo Star. He was
We're going to see Beetles Cirk tomorrow, but he'll be with us for that.
But point being is that Ringo hasgot about ten hits relatively speaking,

(01:33:31):
including a couple of Beatles in hisown solo career. Maybe maybe a little
bit more than that. But youcan't carry a concert charging the money that
Ringo Star charged without having some otherpeople on there. So they had members
of uh, the average white band. Average white band was in there.
The couple guys in from Toto werethere. The star of the show last

(01:33:54):
night. Do you know what theyou know, the group Men at Work
is. I'm telling you the leadsinger from Men at Work was at the
concert last night and he sang theirtwo songs. It was he was unbelievably
good. I think his name isLet me look and let me make sure

(01:34:15):
I get the name right. ColinHay And for any of you that are
men at work songs, Landown underis I think they're one of their biggest
hits. Try. I think whatelse would be? Uh be? Now
is another great song of theirs.Overkill is a good one. Yeah,
the dude is seventy. He soundslike he's thirty. I am, and

(01:34:39):
I'm not trying to b ssue onthis, Like Ringo is like almost eighty,
and maybe he's even eighty. Hesounds eighty. Still skinned sing,
but there just isn't going to bethe same oomph that he had when he
was thirty five or fifty five forthat matter. That's like when when I
went and saw Motley Crue last yearand people who have Vince Neil can't hit
the same notes he can't. He'snot twenty two anymore. Yeah. Let

(01:35:04):
the guy from Toto can't sing thehigh notes in Africa. The backup singer
sing it because he can't hit thosehigh notes anymore. It's like John,
you don't, he don't. Hedoesn't sing high rocket Man because he can't
hit it. That's sad. Itis what it is. Paul McCartney still
sings. Maybe I'm amazed at hisconcerts and he he butchers them and I

(01:35:26):
love Paul McCartney. Does he singlet them let them in? I've never
heard him singing. He doesn't singa whole lot of wings at his concerts.
Oh is it? He sing liveand let die? Okay, excuse
me, still trying to get overthis cough and cold. You sound hold
on, good out talk now.I I am a concert He said that

(01:35:49):
I am a concert guy, likenobody's business. The fiance is a massive
concert goer, and I would saythat my attendance has on up over the
years. Yeah, but it's alsotoo, I mean, there is a
little bit of the nostalgic acts, which classic rock. I mean, it's
in there. You want to rememberhim for how they were right. It's

(01:36:11):
like in the movie with Paul RuddThis is forty when they kept trying to
push Graham God. I can't rememberwho it was, but his point was
the guy he was working with, you can't show them the way they were
in the seventies, and then fastforward to now. It freaks people out.
Yeah, and that's what going toa concert of those varieties is it's
freaking I'm not going. Yeah,I'm done with Paul McCartney. I you
know, he's my hero and Iwill have to take a sick day when

(01:36:33):
he dies. But I'm done withPaul McCartney concerts because the costs is really
really expensive, and he just can'tsing like he used to. That's the
other thing is too. Some ofthese shows are just unreal. Like I
want to go see George Straight atKyle Field, I might have to donate
a kidney. Yeah, I meanI wanted to get some tickets for a
couple of members of my family. They're going for six hundred bucks a pop

(01:36:55):
outside at Kyle Field in the summertime. Oh hell's no. Well it's not
only that. I mean it's alsotoo for me. Like, yes,
concerts are great, they're all findinggood, but it's also I can listen
to the music for for free,Like I've already paid for the music.
I don't have to go and hearit again. And I get, you
know, the ambiance live all ofthat. But yeah, it's also too.

(01:37:17):
I mean, you're asking me topay that type of price. I'd
much rather go on vacation than paythat to just go sit in the stadium.
Yep. But it was important formy middle Sen's paint with me,
and it was important for us togo see When Go One More Time,
which we did. I mean, the seats weren't cheap. The show lasted
about ninety minutes. It was good. It was straight ninety No, no,
that's a good time. No whatdo you call it to intermission?

(01:37:39):
They just went out there and jam, which was good. But I'm done
with that, and I'm gonna gosee Manilow when he comes to Smart Financial
coming up in this summer, andthat's about it on him as well.
So like knocking these last ones outto your points like I before, he's
you know, he stops performing, stops touring. I want to go to
a Springsteen show. Now I've understoodclear out your night because you're there all

(01:37:59):
night. It's three four hours long, right, Yeah, that the ninety
minute show. That's good, twelvethirteen, fourteen songs. Let's go on
our way, don't talk to thecrowd in the other the other bit of
concerts too. I never really thoughtabout this until I went to a seminar
and they brought it up. There'snothing more lazy than the performer. Pointing
the microphones to the crowd. Youdon't need to hear me sing it.

(01:38:21):
I came to see you. That'sright. That's what Billy Joel does with
piano man. We always sing asong more than he does, but it's
still a great concert. That's alsotoo. I mean, look, there's
status in that. It's hey,I've sang the songs I've done at all.
I don't need to do all ofthis every time. Is Billy Joel
saying, piano man in his lifefive thousand, Well, it's like I
said about Ernie Johnson earlier. Itcomes with the furniture. I mean,

(01:38:43):
yeah, you see Billy Joel,it's immediately, hey, piano man,
you just don't You just don't wantto yell at Horatio Sands. And then
he'll yell at you about they're onlyin eighties, do WoT Billy Joel band?
And then basically he'll he'll mess withyour French toast and that'll this really
good acment. That's not good either, No, all right, two fifteen
of The Mat Thomas Show. There'sa little music review for the day.
Believe it or not, by theway, will be highly google about the

(01:39:05):
world Baseball Classics, so that's comingup in about four to thirty five minutes
from now. You may join usright now if you'd like at seven one
three two one two five seven ninezero seven one three two one two five
seven nine zero. Are we goingto see Jose to bring you this weekend
in Oakland or will we wait tosee him in Seattle? Or would it

(01:39:27):
be better to even wait a littlebit longer for the home games against Minnesota.
Well, the sect dissect that nextseven one three two one two five
seven ninety with a message here forgame time. This is where you can
go get your tickets for concerts, comedy, theatrical performances, or a marketplace
for MLB games. Gametime dot co, game Time dot CEO is going to

(01:39:53):
give you so many different options aboutfinding last minute deals, so we can
set up to sixty percent. There'sall in price. There's also zone deals,
and if you're looking at for specificspecific seats in a Pacific section,
they'll be able to tell you exactlywhat you're gonna be looking at from that
view on the website. A coupleof clicks all's gonna take care of.
There'll be no hidden prices at thevery end everything is upfront, and that's

(01:40:16):
why game Time is the preferred appfor me when it comes to getting tickets
to things I want to go to, like concerts and baseball games. So
what I want you to do isI want you to go to game Time
app or go to Gametime dot co, sign up, create an account,
and I want you to use thecode sports MT. This is where you
get to save a little bit ofmoney s p O r T, s
MT, Sports MT, and they'regonna knock twenty dollars off your first order

(01:40:40):
just to give it a try.And once you try it once, you'll
be going back there to get thoselast minute deals, those zones, specials,
and the best prices for your favoriteevents, whether it be sports or
again anything entertainment wise. That's promocode s p O RTS, sports MT
or sports MT. However you wantto say, a Time dot Co or

(01:41:00):
the game Time app. The MattThomas Show continues on Sports Talk seven ninety.
I'm telling you, Dan, thissong rocked. Well. That's my
wheelhouse right here, brother. Imean, I was blown away by how
good that dude sounded. You can'tbe in a bad mood when this song

(01:41:21):
comes on, like I equate thisto at a bar patio something like that.
Yeah, and this comes on,the vibes get even better, the
mood is even better, the drinksare tasting even better. Maybe they're a
little bit cheaper except here in Vegas. Oh there's one thousand percent, no

(01:41:42):
doubt about that. This is Thisis a good casino jam. By the
way, if you hear this song, it makes you want to put a
couple extra dollars down. I wasgonna say, I think that whatever,
the extra chip spot is where youcan press your luck. Yeah, at
the blackjack table, maybe I dothat. Maybe maybe maybe I'm just hoping
that I will light up right therebecause then that light up if you win
or something like that. It depends. You know, those things are kind

(01:42:05):
of scammed. Those little side bets. Oh dude, the rake is in
no matter what. But yes, those are the suckers. As soon as
as soon as the camera sees youdo that, there's somebody in a room
saying, got another one, yep, yep, all right? Seven one
three two seven ninety is how youreach the show if you want to get
in seven one three two one twofive seven hoey Dan is filling in today

(01:42:28):
for Ross. Uh. Have Ihave not heard from Ross? I was
a couple of times I was gonnasay, is there a status report?
Do we know if he is uprightand with us? He had a conference
call today at eleven thirty our time, so I think he's doing okay and
he's up for that at least okay. My cousin in law, who's with
us here in Las Vegas, isgoing with this. We're going to the

(01:42:48):
MA Museum after the show. Todaywas gambling till four o'clock in the morning,
so I've not seen him today. So it's just basically like my son
and I are just chilling out inthe room until we get down to Bay.
I guess later tonight. But yeah, it's good time head by all
all right, so are you?I keep trying to invent new ways to

(01:43:10):
kind of potentially spend this a braidreturning and we're going back to the same
kind of storyline. I think,Dan, I think we're all very very
leary, and expectations are minimal aboutwhat is going to be really his success
once he returns. I don't thinkless. You're just the most optimistic human
being on earth that we're expecting sometwo seventy five with good pop ops well

(01:43:38):
above eight hundred typosere are you comingback? I would say that if my
expectations were any lower, I wouldhave none at all, because that is
where I'm at. I don't haveany expectations. I expect him to be
the same guy. Maybe he hitsa couple of balls a little harder than
he did before he went to WestPalm Beach, But aside from that,

(01:44:00):
no, I'm not expecting this guyto be anything better than what you're getting
right now out of John Singleton, which again is not much. He's pretty
much one of four outcomes. Eitherhe strikes out, he hits an absolute
mammoth nuke of a home run,or he bounces out the second or he
walks. Two of those four aregood. The reality is this, And

(01:44:21):
I know John's been a nice story, but he's replaceable. He's a replacement
player thousand percent, one thousand percenthe is. So to think that a
bra you couldn't find space in thestarting lineup is ridiculous, because John's gonna

(01:44:44):
be just. John's gonna be twotwenty hitter drawing the walks, as you
mentioned, a couple of moon rockets, and you know, bat flips and
whatnot. That's cool and everything, but if a bra you really did make
the adjustments, let's go, let'sgo glass half full on this bad boy.
It'll be a nice little bump forthis team. No, it'd be

(01:45:06):
a huge bump. I mean, especially too when you factor in that the
guy who is currently hitting fourth foryou is not giving you the type of
production you need out of a guyhitting fourth for a team that is a
contending ball club. That's one rightyou even throwing Chas McCormick as well.
I know he made his return theother night, but what we got the
other night was pretty much what wegot before he heard his hamstring, and

(01:45:29):
he was somebody that was a hugepart of keeping this team afloat last year.
I mean, you know, Iremember when there were all the reports
about Dusty's concern about his weights, all of that. Aj Perzinski on foul
Territory saying, this guy carried youwhen al Tuve and Alvarez were both hurt.
And that's why I think in alot of ways people look so favorably
upon Mauricio Dubon because he became abonus for you last year. He became

(01:45:54):
somebody that you said, Hey,he can actually do with the bat too.
That's good to see. We likethat. But I mean there's just
too many inconsistencies to just point tojose A bray You and say that he's
the problem. Yeah, but thenegative is here's the thing, and this
is the reality. The negative wayout benefits the positive because if he does

(01:46:16):
come back and he doesn't improve, you're tying up a roster spot with some
guy. I mean, you're goingto eventually have to send Joey lit Brafito
down. It comes as soon asjose A bray You is brought back,
that's when that happens. And Imean, here's what I and we talked
about this yes day with chandeler Roamon the A team. The directive to

(01:46:39):
Mickey's story. When he goes downthe Triple A, he's your first baseman,
he's playing first and I know thata lot of people, oh,
well, what about him out inthe outfield. He's not going to forget
about how to track down a baseball, how to catch a baseball, how
to throw it back in. That'snot going to happen. Let's let's let's
go back to twenty seventeen. Withthe Dodgers, Cody Bellinger came up because
he was good of a hitter thatthey could not have him anywhere, but

(01:47:02):
on the major league roster they playedhim at first base. He's an outfielder
by trade. Did he forget abouthow to play outfield? Watching the Cubs
and Braves game right now, Isee him playing in the outfield, Like,
I don't think that goes away justbecause you say, hey, learn
this skill, go over here becauseyou can help us in the immediate Yeah.
Yeah, I just I'm I thinkthis is you're putting and it's not.

(01:47:27):
Look Joe spot as a manager andnot everything you do as a manager
is going to be a piece ofcake. You're gonna have to make tough
decisions. There's gonna be a toughway to navigate these waters. I don't
know how much of the assistance hecould be eating from his front office.
Uh, but I don't think Joebasically called Dana or Jim or anybody else

(01:47:48):
that's involved with his bag one andsaid, hey, is he ready,
Let's bring him up? No,go ahead. So I think they're trying
just just to you know, he'sprobably down there for a couple he's been
there for a few weeks. He'sprobably tired of the routine. He's possib
to get back with his teammates. He wants to resurrect his career, he

(01:48:08):
wants to resurrect his image. Allthese things are fair, but the reality
is if it's not ready, andit hasn't, necessarily you haven't missed him,
so to speak. He'd be abonus if he came here, but
you haven't missed him. And maybethat's what Jose is thinking, is that,
you know, is my legacy goingto be ending by all this money

(01:48:31):
and not being productive for this baseballteam that I signed a contract with.
It's certainly trending that direction, becauseI mean, I just don't see anything
to believe that he Matt. Theat bets that I saw before he got
sent to West Palm Beach looked likea guy who just cannot get around on
a simple fastball anymore. And now, the term that I just said is

(01:48:54):
simple enough, because it's hard enoughin its own right to be able to
hit a major league fastball. Butif you are a major league player,
that should be the first skill thatyou have. I mean, hitting in
general is hard, but a straightfastball should be one that, Hey,
you know it's coming, you knowit's going to be fast. You know
how to time it out and beable to put in enough decent contact on

(01:49:16):
it. He couldn't do that atall. Yeah, I don't know.
It's just this is to me avery very tough spot for a rookie manager.
It's a tough spot for a generalmanager. And it's also bagwell needing
a little bit of UH. Iwent down to Florida with him and helped

(01:49:38):
him get him his swing fixed. Two thirty on Sports Talk seven ninety seven

the website. It'll walk you throughthe entire process. If you've got a

they'll take great care of you forgreat benefits, outstanding coverage and a plenty

of options that many people that havesuffered with previous problems of Medicare have not
been able to enjoy. That's mhmedicaredot Com from Memorial Herman Medicare Systems.
Wow, were you just so blownaway by the impersonation Matt or well?

(01:51:14):
I guess not all right, we'reworking on Matt. Oh. I think
I think he just ran back fromthe restroom. I'm here, I'm here.
I'm sorry. My son was givingme an Aggie baseball update at the
SEC tournament. He's not happy. So so your son's basically Gordy. Is
that what you're telling us? Ohmy god, he is. I have
raised the biggest Aggie of all time. That's not good for anybody. That's

(01:51:39):
not good for anybody. So he'sprobably a huge fan of winning seven overtime
regular season games and making commemorative cupsout of him. We have like fifty
Aggie cups in our house. That'sa good call. That's unfortunate for you.
Yeah, He's like, can wego see George Straight? And I'm
like, yeah, So somebody said, yeah, I got two tickets six
hundred bucks to pop. I'm like, you know what, son download some

(01:52:00):
songs. I mean, Jimbo's gotsome money. Can Jimbo, you know,
help help out some people? Imean, speaking of that, you
know we don't. We don't haveany money to pay Dana Holkerson apparently,
Jesus, you see that. Idid see that. We're broke. I
mean, you hate a guy somuch you want to pay him to go
away? Is this the problem isyou just don't have the money to do

(01:52:20):
it. You must really not likethat guy. Well, we'll worry about
it later. That's that's pretty muchwhat they said. I mean, seriously,
and again I don't mean to getall idolistic. Idealistic is that word?
Yeah, it's a word. Sure, Yeah, yeah, we'll go
with it. When when is thisgoing to stop? With this this crazy

(01:52:41):
money that is being spent everywhere fromnil to portal to coaches, There's got
to be something at some point thatjust says we this is out of control.
The dollars and cents don't make sense. And then as I tell you
all these things we got, wegot ESPN sub letting games on the TNT

(01:53:04):
for additional money there and then Idon't know, Oh, I mean it's
crazy. You just answered your ownquestion. It's when the people who have
all the money decide, hey,we don't like spending more money, so
let's go ahead and grandstand about howthis isn't good for the game. Well,
really, it's not good for you. So that's that's when it that's

(01:53:25):
when it ends. Yeah, andwe're going to have the money. I
mean you age is gonna get themoney, but the problem is we we
don't have the super big donors.Well it's and you just hit it right
on the head. I mean, when these things come come to fruition.
It's usually because somebody who has aton of money is the one who's unhappy.
And I think we can probably takea guess on Colin Boulevard who that

(01:53:46):
is. But then they're the onesthat say, well, wait a minute,
there's a reason why we pass thehat. The hat just doesn't end
with me. And it's the problemis U of H doesn't have enough people
who sit in that circle that arewilling to tribute to the hat. Yeah.
All I know is is that ifevery U of H person dropped in

(01:54:10):
ten dollars and said, hey,I'll contribute a hunreducks one hundred twenty five
bucks a year, it wouldn't takecare of it. You have to have
the big money. You have tohave somebody just cut you a big,
fat, fifteen to twenty million dollarscheck and say, here's here's how you
can find anil, here's how youcan fund your athletic department. Well,
I mean, yeah exactly. Imean Austin's got enough people who are willing
to tie to their program. AndI when they fired Jimbo, they had

(01:54:33):
the money, they didn't they knewwhere to go get it. Well,
it's also too. I mean, they just continuously go in circles, although
this time I think they finally gotit right with Elko of Hey, let's
find somebody who actually is a goodcoach, not just somebody who tells you
they're a good coach. Jimbo hadno problem telling people that he was a
good coach and living that way.I already am just waiting for the day

(01:54:56):
that he writes a book and weget the pr message, Hey, coach
Fisher would love to come on yourshow to promote his book. You know
what my answer is going to be, No, thanks, I'm good.
I'll take him. Matt Thomas Shownoon to three, I'll take him.
I'll talk to him, of courseI would. Why would not want to
talk? What do he didn't gleanfrom that? Matt? He wasn't interesting
when he was supposedly a great coach, which he never really was. And
he's especially not going to be interestingthen, yeah he is. He didn't

(01:55:20):
bother me. I mean, hejust underperformed. But I hadn't have to
deal with him, so I don'tknow if he was a terset of the
media or what, but now healways he did like twelfth Man dot Com
and Aggie fan radio and crap likethat. I mean, that would be
like it was the safe space forhim. He knew he wasn't gonna get
challenged. Yeah, that'd be likeall the Texans media site people employees asking

(01:55:45):
Demiko all the questions and nobody askinganything else. Although Dimiko gets a lot
of softball questions from a lot ofDemiko does I mean, for example,
yesterday, Look, I don't likecriticizing, and I hope this doesn't come
across as overly that way. Well, I'll decide that. So yesterday after
the game, you know, we'vegot people in the clubhouse with Alex Bregman

(01:56:06):
and not one asking hey, areyou worried about you know, are some
of the hitting struggles starting to popup again? Like? How is that
not asked? Like? How isthat not one of the first things asked.
Well, I'll say this, it'shard. It's very easy for us
that don't go in there on aregular basis to criticize those that do.

(01:56:26):
But I can tell you when Iam able to go to the ballpark,
I am able to talk to thosepeople. I just happen to be in
a slot that doesn't necessarily allow thatbecause practices are happening while the show is
on the air and games are goingon, and I can't even get to
the clubhouse in time before the gamebecause I'm the show's at three o'clock.
So I will just say I don'tdo a whole lot of that. I
would say that Chandler and Brian mctaggerdo an excellent job getting the most important

(01:56:51):
askers questions done. I don't knowif there's quite a many, very many
people beyond those two that do that. I just can say, and just
and real general status that it's alot easier to ask questions when you are
not trained, and it's easy togo, well, how'd that feel hitting
that through run? Home run?Of course it felt great. Thanks for

(01:57:11):
that real mind bender there. Soyou mean you don't like the soliloquies about
how you're friends with somebody and youknow there's kind of a statement, another
statement and then a hint of aquestion at the end. You don't like
those? No, Okay, hey, I'm with you on that. But
here's the thing, though, Imean, you've asked enough questions. I've
asked enough questions. There's a differencebetween haranguing someone and kind of you know,

(01:57:35):
badgering the point to a point, badgering them, and then exactly as
I said, Hey, are youworried that some of the habits that you
developed are starting to settle in again? He can very easily answer no,
I'm good. I'm just reading awex Er tweet right now. Fifth FCL
game that's expanded spring training. Downthere for a bray you one for four,

(01:58:00):
reach on an error by the shortstop, grounding into the six four to
three double play with the bases loaded. Hit a home run off of a
nineteen year old picture, reach ona fielder's choice. His time down there,
seven for twenty two, it's athree eighteen batting average, a home
run, two doubles of walk, and two strikeouts. Well, let's see
how it looks in share Land. What's this reaction to me? When New

(01:58:21):
Sugarland awre they gonna they're gonna cheerhim? Right? I mean, well,
I mean there's no reason to bootthe guy. There's no reason to
booth That's exactly. He's done nothingto be booed. I mean, if
you want to go ambivalence, it'dbe one thing you are booing him because
of something that any of us wouldhave done, and that is he signed
a contract, he got paid.I mean, that's the only reason you

(01:58:42):
would do that, and I thinkthat's a dumb reason to do it.
But the guy himself everything that I'veheard, I mean heard Alex Bregman say
yesterday, great teammate. That seemslike that's the constant narrative out of the
clubhouse. I don't have any reasonto believe that he's not. But that's
not the issue. I mean, look, it's kind of like what Al
Baldwin says in Glengarry Glenn Ross.Nice guy, go home and play with

(01:59:03):
your kids. I mean it reallyto a certain point is do you do
the job or do you not? That's that's what people care about the most.
Yeah, six four to three doubleplay today, so he'll fit right
in with the Astros. Then that'senough from you. All right, let's
play believe it or not? Next, all things about well, it's highly

My hotel's right next to the teamObile Arena where the Golden Knights play.

(02:02:09):
This will be a home of anNBA team probably in the next five
years, easily. Yeah. Ithink Vegas and Seattle are getting teams,
and they're gonna move somebody from theWest to the East. Everybody's kind of
fighting who would like to do that. I think Minnesota would like to go
to the East. I think couldprobably Memphis let go the east. New
Orleans wouldn't mind going to the East. But you know what, how about
the Rockets volunteers tribute. Yes,there's teams further east than that would be

(02:02:30):
the case. I think Memphis NewOrleans would get priority over their Rockets would
have been an Eastern Conference playoff teamthis year. That's all I'm saying.
That's true. I never thought ofit that way, but you're right about
