Matt Thomas of The Matt Thomas Show and Dan Mathews of The A-Team react to the news that first baseman José Abreu will be joining the Houston Astros Triple-A affiliate Sugar Land Space Cowboys on Friday. Abreu was demoted to the Florida Complex League on May 1 and could rejoin the Astros as early as this weekend against the Oakland Athletics, according to general manager Dana Brown. The Astros begin a three-game series in Oakland starting Friday with Justin Verlander on the mound.
Ronel Blanco was ejected from May 14's matchup against the Athletics after umpires found a foreign substance on his glove. Blanco then received a 10-game suspension but looks to return to the Astros rotation Sunday in Oakland. Matt and Dan review the $2.8 billion settlement in the House v. NCAA case, tell their "Non-Florida Stories" and more on this Anything Goes Friday.

Lunchtimers. This is the Matt ThomasShow, twelve oh one in Htown.
Good morning, exter rippers, andwelcome to a Friday edition of About Thomas

(00:29):
Show. This is Sports Talk sevenninety. I think at some point we
need some more smooth jazz, quietstorm. Matt Toms. Well, here's
the thing you have to take advantageof this sore throat. Let me let
me explain the situation. Yesterday wasfull on sore. Don't clip that,
damn it. Yesterday everything was sore. Is that what you said? Where's
your tea bag? It's in theIt's in the cow. You put it

(00:49):
all the way in there. Yeah, I'll get it out in a minute.
I need tea bag for a shortperiod of time, Okay, So
I like to leave it in there. Let it soak. I was on
the mom cast. That sounds likesomething else. I was on That sounds
fain Well, I filtered myself. Then that was I was on Max Minity,

(01:11):
no funny. That sounds worse orbetter. But if you go all
the way around you fist on boomboom boom, like guys at a party,
staty boom boom, boom boom boom, you get sick bumps down and
in one minute's goods and quick. It's a little bit of a limp bagel.
Nobody wants that. No, soyou'd rather have it stiff brother,
crispy, a crispy bagel. Sostiffer is what you're looking for? No,

(01:34):
I sadly stiffer, crispy er.I don't want to just I don't.
I don't want the bagel just languishingeverywhere. I wanted to be a
firm bagel. You don't want anoodle bagel. When you put when you
put your mouth on that bagel, you wanted to be firm. I look
great, feel great? Do you? Yeah? I mean look at this
package. Oh the Friday get togetherthat we call on Anything Goes Friday here

(01:55):
on the Matt Tommy Show. Thankyou to Connor McGovern for finding embarrassing clips
of us throughout the course of theweek. Damn Matthews, apparently you were
spared. Congratulations to you, atleast for now. I've got a reprieve
in that regard, but I'm surethat I probably will find my way on
there sometime in the near distant future. Well, I'll say this, you've

(02:16):
got to send Connor, some Adamand Adams stuff, because I know there's
no way those guys don't behave themselvesat some point for the course of a
full week. Oh, I've gota dossier. I absolutely do, so
I will for sure pass that alongto one Connor de McGovern. You man,
you put in some hours. You'vegot the last hour of the Next
Step show. Mm hmm, you'redoing my show, you're producing the afternoon

(02:38):
show. You're doing Astros Baseball tonight. Let's go, man, let's go
nightcap in there as well. Sothree straight nights of a nightcap. So
now I'm up with that. NowI know why Ross took these three days
off. Is I mean he saw, Oh there's a potential for three nightcaps
right there. I think I'm outof here. Yeah, he's very smart
that way. Good for him.He selectively chooses his day off. All

(03:00):
right, you get time off, take time off. Yeah, I got
you, I got you. Allright. So let's get to the show.
Today, we are here and anythinggoes Friday here, I'm once again
in Las Vegas, so nothing toodebauchery to discuss. Yesterday we did a
little bit of the Mob Museum. My son is a huge history. He's

(03:21):
a history major at A and Mand just loves all the kind of stuff
like that. So went to themom Museum yesterday and had a good time,
had a fine piece of red meatat an outstanding steakhouse here in the
Las Vegas area, and then playedsome cards. So it was a very
chill night for yours, truly. That's I mean, look, you know,
Vegas is for everyone. And Isaid that a lot. I mean,
you know, hey, I'm nota huge drinker. All right,

(03:43):
well, the food seems great.I'm not a huge gambler. Tons of
shows any other attraction as well.So you basically can do Vegas anyway that
you want to do it. Ifyou want to go, you know what's
to the wall and spearmint, Rhinoand all that kind of stuff, go
for it. Yeah. I askmy son if you want to go,
and I just he's like, no, thank you. And I'm like,

(04:03):
I don't think I ever want totake my son to a strip club that
just feels weird. That's dipping intocreepy dad territory. Don't Yeah, Creek,
it's not gonna happen, not onmy watch. No. I mean,
if he wants to go that's hisdeal. But I'm sure involved that
don't ask, don't tell, don'task, don't tell. I don't,
I don't. I don't need toknow. I don't need to know.
Yep, all right, is anythinggoes Friday here on the radio show today.

(04:25):
If you want to jump into theconversation, you may do so at
seven one three two one two fiveseven ninety seven one three two one two
five seven nine zero. If youwant to follow us on Twitter, you
may do that as well. Andat Sports MT at Dan Matthews with one
T H O U. And thenwe've got at Connor d mcgovernn. Kind

(04:45):
of a light sports night. I'mgoing to assume that most people that were
any sort of sports fan did notspend an externinary a lot of March amount
of time watching Indiana Boston last inthe NBA, so we will probably shelve
that conversation. Did you notice, however, the Rangers lost again yesterday?
Did you notice? Have you noticedhow absolutely I mean, I don't mean

(05:09):
to say pathetic, but it's theworst division in baseball right now, the
American League West. Good for theshows because if they were in the AL
East right now, we would absolutelybe talking about them being possible sellers at
the deadline. But yeah, thegood news is Seattle can't hit. They
can pitch, they can't hit,and the Rangers are putrid right now.

(05:30):
As as Adam Wesler said yesterday onthe show with you know, I was
about to say Cody Bellinger, butCorey Seger at shortstop, poor defensive play
on the rag and he showed thatat least on Wednesday night. You know
what the great part of it is, the Astros never have to move divisions.
They'll never have to say, well, if they were in this division

(05:53):
or they are in this division, they're always gonna be American League West.
It may be for the rest oftheir complete lives as a franchise. So
if the division sucks this year,oh well yeah, look that's everybody else's
issue. I mean, you know, nobody asked how you got into the
postseason. They just asked did youget into the postseason? So, I
mean the Astros have proven it,you know, numerous times they win the

(06:14):
division, all right, you know, they find their way to the ALCS
as they did in twenty twenty. You're on the wild card, Well,
go to Dodger Stadium and beat,Mike Fires and the rat that he is
in the Oakland A's and have JoshAbbott band playing at Dodger Stadium, which
did happen? The what Josh Abbottband? Pat Green, my Texas.
That's what they play whenever the Astroswent at home. You know, I've

(06:35):
never noticed that. Yeah, it'sa great song. You know why because
I'm never at the stadium the ninthinning. Oh, it's one of my
favorites. They flashed the huge Astroswin on the ribbon boards and on El
Grande out there in right field. It's quite a scene. It's fun and
it's a great song too. Yousing along with it as you're walking to
the exits. It's it's catchy. It's a fun tune. Now is that

(06:57):
you just doing that? Or arethousands of people doing that? I mean,
I don't think that it's like WrigleyField with everybody singing along to Go
Cups Go. But maybe it doeshave the potential one day to get to
that point like Phillies fans sing alongto I Keep Dancing on my Own and
Yankee fans, of course, we'llsing along to New York, New York,
but they play New York, NewYork, no matter if they win

(07:19):
or lose, because I remember Iwent to a Yankee game a few years
ago and they lost to the Royals, and they still played it. It's
just people weren't really in the moodto go full on singing frank at that
point. Yeah, we don't theAstros. The Astros had a fight song
when I was a kid. Itwas there was Go Go Astros, which
I absolutely love. But there's otherones that have just tried to organically come

(07:43):
out, like that stupid ass songthat that that singer was it not breathing
Orange Fire was well, that's gogo Astros. No, but there's another
song it wasn't the one like it'sit don't tell me it's not more than
a game or something like that.Who says it's only a game? That
would say production, Okay, allright, yeah, because it's funny.
I went down a roundet you twoAstro song too. That was really bad.

(08:07):
Houston's all systems go that one. That song. Let me tell you
about how bad that song sucks. It's football time in Houston is a Grammy
Award winner compared to that other pieceof crap. Come on, man,
welcome to the greatest city of allHouston, Texas. Are you ready for
some football? Okay, don't everdo that again. No, I mean
I will so I will do theshow. So just take my chance.

(08:30):
Lyrically rhyming like that deserves Grammy consideration, no doubt about it. No,
it's funny that you mentioned that aboutHouston's all systems go. I can't find
it in the system, but weused to play its final segment just to
Irk wex Well. It's it's pathetic. And you would think with this,
with this great of culture as thecity Houston has when it comes to food

(08:52):
and art and theater, they wouldhave some better songs. And by the
way, I'll go on and segueonto this, I ask you this,
Calum Hannah. I mean you getthe pulse. Well Cal doesn't, but
Hannah sorta does you have the pulscity on some things. People hate the
song. I mean, Darlene probablylikes it, battle Red Berry likes it

(09:13):
Deep Still Dan, but the restof us thinks the song sucks, and
it sucked for twenty years. Wellremember too, I believe it was the
second year of the franchise because whenI was in high school, my family
had season tickets, and they hadthis like Texans fight song, and it
was as hokey and corny as youcould make a fight song, and I

(09:33):
think it made it. Like twogames before people said just bring back football
time in Houston, Like whatever thatis, we don't want that. Well,
the reality is it's very hard tocreate a fight song that will click
immediately, that people will memorize andthen it becomes a staple of a sporting

(09:54):
event. For instance, if youthink about the great songs that are that
are attached to sports teams, they'renot songs about the team. Right,
there is New York, New Yorkand New York, and with the Yankees,
there is Sweet Caroline's played in theeighth inning at Fenway Park, Right,
I love las Play was played atLaker games forever and ever and ever.
The Doddre Stadium has taken it towhat's that Dodger Stadium does it as

(10:18):
well? Yeah, nothing was attachedto those teams. So maybe we just
got to find a song that isjust really really popular or has stood the
test of time, and that's ourfight song. Well, I can't wait
for the hype video that the Texansput out for that, where Darlene and
all of the people are invited intothe conference room they're at NRG Stadium,

(10:39):
and then at the end of it, they could say, oh, it's
the greatest song ever, just likethey did with the jerseys. Yeah,
when you when you fear, ifyou're the Texans, have a focus group
of people that hate you, andjust say what can we do to fix
this? That's probably going to bemore of an honest approach that you would
get. I would probably say thatwould be the way to go, because
yes, of course you're gonna havepeople who are going in there and all
their attle red, deep Steel blueand Liberty white, and of course they're

(11:03):
gonna say, oh, these arethe greatest jerseys ever. I mean,
hell, you're so cool and you'reso happy, we love you, and
no people go in there and say, Cal get out the way and let
a Hanna do everything and don't evenspeak. I would probably say that too.
With with Cal. I mean it'syou know the chain photo with the
dog and everything. It's like,oh, man, like why do you

(11:26):
need that? Well, you gotbillions of dollars like don't don't do this,
don't don't we all need that friendthat tells you, Matt, don't
don't do this. Yeah, andI want you to be that fun of
me. If there's if youre's somethingyou see me publicly do photo, I'll
do it to you, but I'llprobably do it behind your back. I'll
probably want to do it directly toyou. Well, I mean, if
you're any friend at all I thinkyou do, you do fire at least

(11:48):
at least a text. Okay, that's fine, I will do that then.
All right. Well, like yesterdayI was telling Ross at dinner.
I said, you know, you'reshut your bum mass up about the freeway
traffic was very valid, but youwent on like it was a fourteen chapter
storyline here, and I was like, we've got to give to brevity here,
We've got to get in and outand these shut your bomb masses up.
So it's it's a work in progresswith the brevity thing. I've gotten

(12:09):
better over the years. But yes, it was one of those that I
needed the Oscars Orchestra to kind ofplay me out. Yep, that's what
we're here for, is it?Anything goes Friday in the Matt Thommas Show
seven one three two one two fiveseven ninety seven one three two one two
five seven ninety. Now I'm notin Houston in the last couple of days,
so we'll have to figure out what'sgoing on with jose A Brae.

(12:30):
Where is he going to play today? If Dan, you got some news
on that, we'll to talk aboutthat we come back. Also, we've
got some major news in college athleticsthat has will ultimately change forever the way
college athletics is seen and probably processed. We'll discuss that after a table the

game Time dot Co with the promocode sports mt more. Matt Thomas now
on Sports Talk seven ninety Time istwelve twenty. It is the Matt Thomas
Show on this anything Goes Friday.Let's be brutally honest, Dan Matthews.

(14:22):
Not a real heavy night in sports. So there's other things we want to
get to besides what's happening with thelocal sports teams. We are more than
welcome to do that at the sevenone three two, one two five seven
nine zero seven one three two,one two five seven nine zero. So
where are we on the abrek Wheredo we know exactly where he's going to

(14:43):
be playing tonight or is that stillkind of up in the air at this
point? Nothing official, no reportsyet. I mean I think that we're
still waiting to see if it's maybeone more day in the Florida Complex League
and then maybe tomorrow and Sunday atTriple A. But yes, I've not
seen anything definitive just yet. Well, you know, again, no hurry

(15:07):
on this. I hope when hecomes back he's successful. I just have
a tremendous amount of reservations, asis everybody else that follows the baseball team.
There's just really a no other wayto say it, is there.
Well, I mean it's also tooyou know, I've had people send me
the stats of what he's done atthe FCL. I mean, he should

(15:28):
do well against this competition in theFlorida Complex Lead because you're facing guys who,
in some cases are not even ayear removed from playing high school bawl
at this point. So, Imean, you know, seven for twenty
two is fine, It's it's nice. I appreciate that he's shown improvements with
the bat speed and actual timing ofbeing able to get up to the pitching.

(15:50):
But until I see it a littlebit more against competition that's going to
closer mimic what he's going to face. I'm exactly with you. I've have
serious doubt. It's about how thisis going to go. Yeah, seven
one three two two five seven ninetyseven one three two one two five seven
nine. If you want to jumpin on the conversation, let's start talking

(16:11):
to some people right now. We'llgo first to Anthony and deer Park and
the Matt Thomas Show at twelve twentythree. Anthony, Good afternoon, Hey,
good afternoon, guys. Hey.I have kind of an unpopular opinion.
I think, for the time beingthat Victor Krarttini should be getting the
bulk of the starts behind the plate. I think he throws more guys out.

(16:33):
I think he calls a better game, and he gets on base and
has more productive at bat right nowthan Yaner Diaz does. I love Jiner.
I think he's the future, uhfor a catcher for our team,
But as of right now, Ifeel like Karantini gives us the best shot
at somebody having a productive at batand getting on base. He has his

(17:00):
role. I don't know, honestly, Anthony, because I've never seen it
done before. I don't know aCarotini and he hung up. I was
gonna say, well, y'all, hang it up, let's talk, let's
talk show. I don't talk toyou, Victor, I know you will.
I don't know, Dan. IfVictor Carrottini is a six day a
week guy. Those backup catchers geta lot of fame and a lot of

(17:25):
fortune for pitching or catching one ortwo days a week, and I think
they get a little bit more exposedif they're out there for a significant period
of time. They're like quarterbacks incollege. I mean, they're either the
guy that was the four or fivestar, which that's not Victor Carrottini,
that just hasn't shown what they canbe as a starter, and you want
to see them play badly because theguy that you have in front of him

(17:47):
is good, but you feel likeyou can do better. I mean,
he's a two fifty four hitter rightnow seven to twenty four ops. But
the fact of the matter is exactlywhat you said. He's never been the
guy. And here's the other partof it. And Anthony didn't do this.
But we can't pine for Jinor Diazto be the everyday guy last year
and then when you finally make himthe everyday guy, say, ah,

(18:08):
not good enough, Let's go somewhereelse. Like you've got to have some
sort of trust and faith that theguy can be a really good hitter for
you. He's a two sixty fourhitter that's far and away better than what
you were getting at that point, like light years better than what you were
getting out of Martine Maldonado. Like, have some faith, man, let

(18:29):
this guy earn the position and beable to be entrenched in the position.
And you can't just because somebody isnot living up to expectations. DFA everyone
and bench everyone and go with everybodyelse. This isn't MLB the show.
Like you've got to plug some guysin, have some faith that they'll weather
the worst times that they're going tohave at the plate, slumps, everything

(18:51):
of the sort, and be ableto be a contributing part for your team.
I mean, if you had askedsomebody before the season two sixty four
out of yinor Diaz, I thinka lot of people would take that.
Me included, I can't argue witha single damn word you said. I
just can't. I just think it'stoo it's too quick, it's too easy,
it's too video gaming. It's youguys wanted him so damn bad.

(19:17):
And I'm not pulling the plug onyon Air Diaz is the catcher for this
baseball team. Well, conversely,I mean of all of the people obviously
not ross included being the president ofthe Jake Myers fan club, of people
who are beside themselves when Dana andJoe were saying, oh he's our everyday
center fielder, Oh my god,are you kidding me? And now I
think you have a lot of peopleseeing, Wow, that was pretty good

(19:37):
foresight. Appreciate you doing that.Yeah, you know, it's just too
easy. It's too easy to wantsomebody goes on, you know. And
again, if you're taking the samplesize of two months and saying that that
yan Airdea should be replaced, that'sthat's ruining what ultimately I think is going
to be I think you on yourdeasis going to be ultimate at the end

(20:00):
of the day, a better catcherbecause he's gonna be playing more. I
think he's going to be a professionalhitter. I'm not asking him to be
Johnny Bencher my Piazza. But youknow, in the world of baseball,
honestly, if you go look atthe thirty catches around baseball that start on
a regular basis, you give metwo sixty five ops around eight hundred,
give or take a few points, ninety eight percent of teams of baseball would

(20:21):
take it. Well, it's alsotrue. Well, and it's also too
I always love the people who createa player in real life when that's not
even close to reality. Hitting catchersare not even a dime a dozen.
They're the exception. More often thannot, you don't have a ton of
you know, J t Rio Muto'sout there, or even Salvador Perez is
out there. I mean, there'sa reason why I just mentioned a couple

(20:42):
of names, because those guys don'treally exist. I mean it's like people,
oh, I want a scoring fivein the NBA, Well, good
luck, you know. I mean, there's only a handful of those guys.
And Janar Diez is a way aboveaverage in terms of hitting at the
catcher's spots. So have some fakeis all I'm saying. Yep, all

(21:03):
right, Michael and James. We'llget to you guys coming up a little
bit. Let's just not be sofast to replace people so fast, especially
young guys that we've You guys werethirston forgetting the guy on the field more
and playing more last year. Well, maybe we'll think Dusty sooner rather than
later, he said we would. That's fine. I mean, I think
dust I think Dusky's got plenty offlowers. I think we're okay. I

(21:26):
think we're okay. Twenty eight.Yeah, Dusty's good, good people.
But yeah, Diz is this ishis job. There's no evans or bouts
about it. This is just thisis just not even a conversation I think
the Astros are even having at thispoint. H twelve, twenty seven on

then we will send it over tothe eight team. They're over gallery for
interest today, so go by andsay hi to the boys. Mac.
I'm sure we'll be there as well, and then we'll be off on Monday.
But back for a full show ona Tuesday, as we recap a
Astros weekend in Oakland and Ross Stripling'sgonna throw today for the A's and Dan

(23:21):
they got the Astro's got the stripplinglast time. Correct. I went down
with that, obviously did, becausethe Astros swept that four game series.
Yes they did. They ended upwinning the first game of that series nine
to two, okay. And Verlander'sgonna throw today for the local nine.
We'll have on deck. I believeit's at seven thirty am. I right
about that seven thirty on deck.Of course, Brian McTaggart joining us on

(23:41):
on the on Deck show tonight,so I'll be there joining them with them,
all right. And then first pitchI believe is at eight forty from
Oakland, where they'll have four thousandpeople at the game. Oh, that
might be nice. By the way, I'm staying not too far from the
Tropic Cano. It was as ofthe Tropicana. They've already started demolishing the

(24:02):
parts of the Tropic Canna. CanI Baseball Park is going to be Can
I make one suggestion to the A's, which I mean, let's be honest
here in competence is their middle name. They released a hype video for their
move to Vegas where they used theAtlanta Braves A and not the Oakland A's
A that just kind of shows you, uh, don't do not under any
circumstance, get rid of the KellyGreens. The Kelly Greens are fantastic.

(24:23):
I think the best. I thinkthe best uniform combos in baseball, I
do believe. I think. Imean, if there's not much, the
A's have done well, but thatgreen uniform is with the word Oakland across
the front, which obviously changed toLas Vegas, is spectacular. No,
one hundred percent. I mean, the Raiders didn't change anything when they moved
over. So John whatever his nameis, the owner of the team,

(24:45):
who is kind of an idiot.Uh, don't change anything, yeap.
Let's go to uh Michael in Parentlandon the Matt Thomas Joey twelve thirty four.
Michael, what's on your mind today? Hi, guys, I'm doing
all right. I wanted to talkabout Hosere and it seems to me that
a lot of times we're talking abouthim and its progress. There's talked about

(25:06):
his batting, but to me,one of the just as big of a
problem is its fielding, and Singletonis just so much better a fielder.
You know, scooping up balls andit's it's kind of one of those unsung
stats. You know, when afirst baseman scoops the ball, that could
be an error on the thrower, but the first baseman gets it and seems

(25:29):
to me that you know, Singleton'sable to do that. You know,
back when we had Yuli, hecould do that. But there's more about
problems with Braver than just his batting. Is getting his back speat up.
He really is a liability defensively too, and I have real problem with that.
Well, Michael, I'll say this, Singleton has fielded his position very
nicely. I would John's never goingto be a gold glove guy. But

(25:52):
again, he's doing what he's beingasked to do and he's not embarrassing himself
over there. They'll give up thefielding if they can find out somebody that
plays first base I can hit withan OPS above a hundred, they just
will. They need they want offensivefirepower, or I may not necessarily a
firepower, but they want to.They want to punch out of the first

(26:14):
base position, and if it givesback and starts doing that, they will
forsake some defensive liabilities for a betterbat. I can guarantee that. Well,
yeah, I guess I agree withthat. But still, all things
being equal, I don't I'm notthat optimistic about it. You and even
if he comes back in as goodas Singleton at the bat, again,

(26:37):
the fielding makes a difference. Yeah, if he comes back and he's better,
you know, nobody's going to arguewith that. I mean, I'm
a season ticket older and I liketo see the Astros win. But but
I I just I'm just not optimistic. I just have to say that.
Okay, that sounds good. Sothat's yeah, they're made is checking in
our room here? Sorry, Iwas wondering when that was going to happen.

(27:00):
And she wants to clean the room. Do you tell her two o'clock?
Pay go tell her two o'clock.Don't you have the do not disturbed
placard on your door? You knowwhat, that's a fall, that's a
foul in my part. Thank youMichael for the phone call. Yeah,
thanks, Pate. I gotta putsome shorts on and go tell this woman
this. Yeah, yeah, I'mtelling you got to. You gotta move
around a little bit, buddy.Yeah, so this is what live radio

(27:21):
is all about, right, Ohit is, dude, I mean,
especially in Vegas. I mean there'sno rules, so I mean it's it's
even better that way. But internally, do you think ten thirty is too
early to go clean somebody's room?By the way, ten thirty local times,
I would say Vegas, probably, yes, I think, But you
know it's also to room turnover. But you've got the room for a couple
of more nights, right, Soyeah, we're leaving tomorrow, so yeah,
for sure. Okay, So Imean I would think that, Yeah,

(27:45):
if you guys were checking out today, I could understand it, because
yeah, they've they've got to getrid of it. But at the same
time, though, no, notnot necessarily. As far as the fielding
stuff goes, that's all fine andgood, that's nice. But yeah,
I can do that at shortstop.I can do that at second base.
I can't do that at first Ican't do that at the corner outfield spots.

(28:06):
I've I've got to have some offenseof those spots. And they feel
like that a bray you at leasthas the potential to be better than what
you've gotten out of Singleton. It'sbeen nice out of Singleton to a certain
point. The home runs are fun, but it's the other parts as well.
It's the Yeah, we try talkingabout first base. If you get
an exemporary first baseman, it's awesome, like Bagwell was for so many years,

(28:27):
and Juli Guriel was. You know, Bertman did okay, But I
don't. I don't think there's anybodyat this point that is going, uh,
we're gonna put John sick. Ifa Bray is all of a sudden
got his bat going again, they'renot going to go, well, we
love it what your bat's doing,Ajisey, but your defensive liability. We're
still going to play John Singleton alot. No, he gets the bat

(28:48):
going, it's a Bray using thelineup no matter where he is, any
day of the week. That's that'sgoing to be the case. And it's
also too I mean, let's behonest, this is going to be as
probationary period as you can have forsomebody that's the ilk that he is because
they can't do what he was doing. If he is a hint of what
he was doing, then they're movingon. They're done. That's right there.

(29:14):
If this doesn't work out, he'sdone, right, there's no more
going back to West Palm Beach rightnow, this is this is stage four,
Like, this is absolutely stage fourat this point that if if he
just shows that, yeah, theimprovements weren't enough, that they'll finally say,
hey, Jose, it's been awesome. It's been great. Enjoy you're
nineteen and a habby a line,Yeah, and we've got to go a

(29:37):
different direction. Do you think ifit doesn't work out, do you think
Jeff kind of just takes like hetells Jim, Hey, I know you
don't need me in the office fora while. I get that. I'll
see you maybe like in September. That's the way it should be, Honestly,
if you want, Jeff, ifyou could Jeff Bagwell walk in the
office after the release and go what'sup? BRA's what's going on? Mister
cranout things? That's the family.Oh. I don't think there's any doubt

(29:59):
why Jeff Bagwell was in West PalmBeach. It was Hey, you're a
reason that this happened, so bea reason that he gets out of it.
Yeah, let's go to James andKlin on the Matt Thomas show,
James, what do you got today? Yeah, I want to talk a
little Vegas if you didn't mind, have you you saying to Biork B York,
B York, B York, Iam thank you. Yeah. Right

(30:21):
behind there there's a little casino calledEllis Island. Have you ever been there?
I have not. Okay, wellyou can get you can get well.
No, it's a good place.Five dollars five dollars crap tables,
not ninety nine breakfast staking eggs.Because because I've been to the Yellows Island.
Yes, oh you didn't like it. It's not that I didn't like
it. I'm just saying that it'sit's very old Vegas. There's no doubt

(30:42):
about it. When was the lasttime you were here? I go every
year. Oh that's why I'm stillin your hard time. Because every time
I go out, rent a carbecause my guys want to go everywhere.
They want to go all up anddown. They don't want to they don't
want to take anything. So wekind of split a car around because we
go everywhere. We go to Hendersonto go everywhere. Okay, we go

(31:03):
to the you know what, Ican see the car, but ubers,
our friend. The uber fairs areseven eight bucks of pop up. I'm
okay with it. Yeah. Theproblem taking a car though, is the
parking is just outraged as some ofthese casinos. So you're you're you know
what you're saving probably a new butyou're playing for parking, so it's it's
kind of a right, it's kindof a draw. But the reason I
called is with Archidi coming back andGarcia coming back, I guess we're not

(31:26):
gonna see j JP Fritz anymore.Huh, Well, she's been shut down.
I mean, I don't think that'sthere's been any talk of him coming
back anytime near in the near futureat all. He's got shoulder issues or
elbow. I think it's show thathe realized it's injured. Okay, that's
one. And why why we didn'thear anything from him? Yep, Okay,
Well, I just wanted to giveyou that el As Island deal.
But I think if you go thereand you're gonna like it now, Ross

(31:48):
mass Ross is kind of upity.Yeah, Ross is definitely upity. Thank
you very much for the phone call. That is true. By the way,
you can get a rabbi here atthis at the b York, b
York from five pm to five amfor twenty one dollars. That's not terrible.
That's not bad at all. Idon't know how good of a cut
of them ribbi it is, butyou know, ribbi is my favorite cut

(32:09):
of meat. But the problem is, my guess is if you're paying a
twenty one dollar rabbi here, you'reprobably getting in with a lot of fat.
Well, I mean, look, the gristle kind of adds the flavor
to it, so you know,I can do a little bit with that.
Well, the boy and I yesterdayeach got our own New York strips,
so we were we were very ata different steakhouse for you. You
know what's key with the steakhouse too, is I mean you got to get

(32:30):
the appetizer right. You gotta getthe sides right too. If you know
you're with the group and let's getgreen beans, let's get all this,
it's like, no, get themacaroni, get the potatoes. What are
we doing here? I'm gonna tellyou right now. I think our table
at dinner last night gets an Aplus for the sides. Okay, what
do we go with? All?Right? Peyton likes French fries. So

(32:51):
we got some French fries. That'snot a bad play, which I wouldn't
normally get, but you know, the boys, it's his birthday week trip,
so we're gonna do what he wants. I'm a steak freedz guy.
Yeah, and they, uh,the other three sides were uh like garlic
mashed potatoes, cream potatoes, perfect, excellent. The you've got cream spinach,
which is definitely delicious. Yes,I mean the Fata complee, which

(33:15):
was expensive. It was twenty eightdollars, but damn it was good.
And I'm not a big mac andcheese person, but lobster mac and Chet's
where I thought you were going hells. Yeah, yeah, absolutely no,
All all of those are just elitechoices by you guys that and it makes
a difference too. I mean,you know, I've had somebody at a
table once. Uh yeah, Iwant to get the mushrooms. You're gonna

(33:37):
be eating the mushrooms yourself. Ido like mushrooms, but I wouldn't.
Yeah, I mean you got toyou gotta find things that everybody the table
would like. And it's a goodscharitable item. So we were pretty pleased.
Without work yesterday. Good job byyou. All right, let's take
a short time out talk to ourbuddy Aggie Doug coming up at seven one
three two one two five seven ninetyseven to one three, two, one
two five seven ninety is the MattThomash. We're taking you to three collect

(34:00):
the day. What do you thinkit is a good believer or not?
I'm not even started working on ityet. What's going on today? In
terms of what anything? I needa good topic for believe it or not?
Oh, believe it or not?I mean it is Memorial Day weekend,
so I mean we could do patrioticholidays. That could be a possibility.

(34:22):
Although Memorial Day it's also too it'sa touchy subject for good reason.
So I mean I don't know.All right, Well, I'm gonna think
about it, okay, US presidentsmaybe possibility. Oh by the way,
we have some news on holiday aBrie. We'll take about that when coming
back. We'll do that right afterI tell you about Galveston Island. You
want to go down for the weekend, or how about just for the day,

(34:42):
or how about for all like aweek. I'm telling you, Gang,
you know how I feel about Galvestonand I want you to check out
the website that's gonna put you inthe right spot, and that's Visit Galveston
dot com. That's the website youneed to go to to get your shopping
ideas, to get your accommodations,to figure out where you're going to eat.
And I'm just telling you, friends, you are going to love the

(35:06):
experience of getting amazing accommodations and lotsof great ideas for anything that you're going
to be doing in the next handfulof times as you come down to Galveston.
The website again is visit Galveston dotcom. That's Visit Galveston dot com.
Checking out the beaches, checking outwhere to park your car, checking
out where you're going to fish orwhat beach you want to go to,

(35:30):
the top chef restaurants, the sandcastlebuilding, the ice cream places, even
the putt put We do it all, the Thomas family does. And I'm
telling you for a nice, inexpensivegetaway, whether it be for a night
or two or just for the day, go and find out the different types
of vacation rentals that will be availablefor you by going to visit Galveston dot
com. That's visit Galveston dot com. Hey, it's Jeff Blum. Oh

(35:53):
have we waited forming fern fact. Not only am I a former player,
I was also Unction Jack for afew years until Matt Thomas stole my gig.
The Matt Thomas way of doing it. That dude looks way better in
Bunny Ears. Deal with it.Yep, all facts, all right,
Junction Matt take it away. Ifyou are going to the Space Cowboys game

(36:22):
tonight, they're playing Round Rock andI don't know what the giveaway is,
it doesn't really matter, but there'sgonna be a player there name is Jose
Brave. You might be wearing numberseventy nine too, who knows. I
can't imagine that's a big number he'sfighting with there. No, I'd probably

(36:44):
say seventy nine is on the pilewhere then they can just either do the
iron press or who knows, maybefor him they might actually stitch it on.
All right. Seven for twenty twowith the Florida Coast League team three
eighteen, two doubles, a homerun, ops nine twenty He had five
runs score with one walk and twostrikeouts in twenty three played appearances, and

(37:08):
he will be playing for the SpaceCowboys. Now, you know what,
the one thing I don't have anyanswer to it. I don't even think
you do. Let's say he justgoes to the Space Cowboys game today,
and let's say he goes like threefor five with two home runs, and
he's like, I'm done with thistriple a crap. Does he get to
fly the crane plane to oak toSan Francisco or does he have to fly

(37:30):
commercial? Oh, they wouldn't docommercial. No, no, no,
he gets in on that. Forsure. He gets the crane plane or
at least they rent one and saygo out there. No, it's not
like there's gonna be people going toHobby or Intercontinental and being like, is
that hose a bray you? Itis hose to bray you? Maybe I
should go ask him for a picture. I bet he would do it,

(37:51):
Oh, one hundred percent he would. He he's a very he's a very
affable guy. He's he's magnanimous. So yeah, absolutely, I always love
using that word. Now, Iwouldn't expect him to fly coach, because
you know, players are divas. But I mean, that's an expense,
that's an expense that I mean, wouldn't you say if you're if you're Jose,
like, man, I'm sorry,I'm sucked, and I'm sorry that

(38:13):
i'm paying you know, you're payingme all this money. You know,
let me turn some points in andI'll fly myself there. I got to
believe that he's probably got it inthe contract that first class. I mean,
you know all those players, I'venever seen a player an active player
when I've ever been on I'm planewith somebody ever sitting coach. Ever,
there was a former Texan who I'lltell you off the air, who was
on one of my flights and hewas in coach with us. Now was

(38:37):
where were they going? Uh?New York City? But it was for
business? Really, reasons are forpersonal. I think probably a little bit
of both. I mean, Idon't know, I don't, I don't
don't, I don't. I don'tknow about the business part of it.
I think probably you know it's NewYork City. Probably just not. No,
you know, what I was sayingis that the team would not put
the guy in coach. Oh,I got you. Yeah, But I

(38:58):
mean in this case right here, yeah, Jose is not coming out of
pocket for this. Well, heprobably should. He probably should, say
you know what put me in.It put me in basic economy. I'm
a big guy. I can handleit. All of his gear is going
to be there in California anyway.Yeah, then you got to worry about,
you know, the the arm restand the guy next to you needs

(39:19):
to get out and use the can, you know, and I mean like
like the broad shouldered. So thenthe cart comes by it conding you.
But what if it's a little humility. Maybe he sits in the middle seat,
maybe he's in thirty six B.Well, then that's that's that's rough
for the aisle, and that's roughfor the person at the window. It's
true. Aggie Doug at twelve fiftythree on the Matt Thomas Show, Eightie,
what's a good word? Nothing fellasHey, I was just calling in

(39:44):
to get you talking about uh,I guess Twitter asho. Twitter is now
turned on on air Diaz. Well, no, that's not accurate. Somebody
called and said they're not happy withyou onnair that yeah, Carotene should play
over them. Okay, So soobviously we all understand that that Twitter is
like somebody's screaming at you driving downthe road. And I mean basically,

(40:07):
if you're standing out the side ofthe road, somebody screams at you,
and that's like, that's basically whatthe equivalent of the equivalent of Twitter is,
right, mm hmm. So whydo we put so much stuck into
astros Twitter or ignorant takes that peoplehave. We don't don't continue. Yeah,
I have zero respect for Astros Twitterand I don't care if Astro Twitter's

(40:28):
mad at me. I don't respectit. I don't There's not enough things
I see that I go all thatmakes sense. Well, there's no actual
substance to any of the arguments thatthey have a lot of times, and
it's just like it's just basically somebodythat plays a video game too much and
think, oh yeah, so,I mean the whole crap with the you
know, let's trade this guy,or oh let's trade a bray You who's

(40:49):
gonna trade for Jose Abraidy right now? I mean, that's the dumbest take
ever. So, I mean, there's just there's so many things that people
continue to say, and it's like, as fans, let's have a little
bit of a filter and act likewe're at least a little bit educated about
baseball. We have been through thisfor what eight years now, where we
basically have major runs into the playoffs, and and the fact that people don't

(41:15):
are ready to jump out of theship after fifty games. It makes absolutely
no sense to me. And Iget that the world is hyperbolic right now
and everybody's going edge and all thiskind of stuff. Or's just settled
down and enjoy the fact that they'redoing a little bit better right now,
as opposed to let's micro manage everysingle thing that Joe A. Spotta does.
I mean, that was just enoughlast year with Dusty no again,

(41:39):
and I'm not trying to gloss overevery single person. Thanks for the phone
call, ad, I appreciate it. I'm I'm not trying to gloss at
everybody that follows the Astros that doesa Twitter count as a bad person.
But I think you guys know whoAstro's Twitter is. It's about one hundred
people give or take that just haveabsolutely horrific baseball takes. No, it's

(42:02):
incredibly reactionary. I mean, I'vefallen victim to it, and I'll readily
admit it. But it's funny. We played the piece of audio yesterday from
the TikToker Celeski who and their reactionfits directly into this is they said,
your reaction to when your favorite NFLteam loses and you're just like, ah,
whatever, we'll get them next week. There's only seventeen of those.

(42:25):
And then your team loses like theAstros did on Wednesday, and you're throwing
every cuss word in the book. You're calling everyone a more on everything you
know that you can throw as aninsult at your team and saying that you
hate them. They're choke artists, they're terrible. You know, they have
no they have no clutch gene, all of those different things. And the
funny thing is there's a remarkably moregames than you have in an NFL season,

(42:53):
Like you losing a game in anNFL season is more detrimental to you
than you losing a game in baseball. Yeah, but I would also say
Texans Twitter, if the Texans gostart the season zho and two people tend
to flip out there too, don'tworry about that. Oh no, that's
gonna happen for sure. Well,I mean they'll be there, but then

(43:14):
you know they'll blame everybody except forthe organization. I mean, that's that's
what happens with that? My myall time favorite is, well, you
know, it must be the media'sfault. You know, you guys put
all these expectations on them. Yeah, that's that's it. That's you nailed
it. That's that's the one rightthere. No, I just I don't
give Astros Twitter much time because again, I'm very selective of who I follow

(43:35):
and what I look at. Butthen I go to that for you tab
and I look at some of theoutrageous crap that I see, I'm like,
God, thank God, my peoplethat I follow are just to minimal
numbers, because it's just you know, you just yeah, we're treating this
like anytime anybody loses the game. The Astros is the game. It's like
you have to reinvent the sport atbaseball and try to figure out what went

(43:59):
wrong. You know, it's abouttwo out of three, it's about series
wins, it's about gaining ground,it's about what's in front of you.
And right now the Astros are fourand a half games out of first place
and four and a half out ofa wild card spot. Well, all
I can say is, if youwant to be reactionary as a manager,
you're not going to be a managervery long. I mean, that's just
the end of it and the beginningof it, right there is there's a

(44:21):
reason why. For example, goingback to aj hinch Oh, he's the
same guy at the podium, winor lose. You've got to be that
way. You've got to be thatcalming presence. You've got to be somebody
that you know something happens now. It's also too it can work the other
way in a positive that if youdo say something out of turn, then
it's kind of everybody's sitting up andsaying, well, there's got to be

(44:42):
a reason why you did it.Yep, as long as it's authentic,
all right. Twelve fifty eight, second hour of the Matt Thomas Show.
More on the astros, more ona bray you, more on what will
be hopefully a successful weekend in Oakland, and an important early season trip to
Seattle. And we've got some newson the n seed that has finally happened

This is the Matt Thomas Show.It is one three on Sports Talk seven
on. It is a Matt ThomasShow. We take you today until three

(46:32):
o'clock. Our friend to the show, Joan, gave me a great idea.
Morgan Spurlock, the award winning documentarian, passed away un fortune at the
age of just fifty three years olddue to cancer. You're saying, well,
who is Morgan Spurlock best known? And I don't know a lot about

(46:52):
him. I'm looking at doing someresearch on him right now for today's edition
of hell garon On. He wasthe one that did the Super Sized Me
documentary documentary where he ate nothing butMcDonald's from what was it thirty days?
Is that I think it was?Yeah, I think it was thirty days
thirty days of McDonald's. Now I'mgoing to tell you this real quick before
we go back on the phones.Here. I was in high school,

(47:15):
and because I was the mascot ofmy high school team and had a lot
of other social activities at the school, my ability to work and make some
money was very limited. So Icouldn't go back groceries and rainols because they
wanted a more consistent schedule. Theonly job I could get was at McDonald's
because they like, you can workwhenever you want to, We'll do whenever
you can, and so, andI worked from the McDonald's went up from

(47:39):
my sophomore year in high school allthe way till through my freshman year in
college and enjoy the experience, learna lot about myself as as an human
being. But I also ate verypoorly during that time. So when some
of you may be thinking as you'redriving around, I could do McDonald's for
thirty straight days, you really can't. You're inside even if even if you

(48:04):
dan, if you went, ifyou mixed your breakfast up and you went
salads at lunch, and you tryto mix. Now that the McDonald's menu
today is a lot more diverse thanit was when he did it, you
can get grilled chicken now you canget I think many more salad options.

(48:24):
I'm trying to think what else wouldbe there that wasn't there. Raps.
I guess raps you could do.But I mean still the tarn and true
formula at the McDonald's after you know, eleven o'clock in the morning is big
max and qps of cheese. Right, Oh dude, I go double,
I go double qps with cheese.So I go a half time. You've

(48:45):
seen your figure and it comes tozero. Surprise. But so I would
just say for any of you thatsaid back in the day that sounded cool,
it wasn't cool. First of all, your cholesterol level goes out out
of whack, you gain weight. And my skin when I was not granted
I was working there, not justeating there, but eating and working there,

(49:07):
I had the worst skin because ofthe grease that was just on my
pores of my body. It wasterrible. I mean, it's also too
one of those things of you're reallysurprised that if you eat McDonald's on a
consistent basis that you're not going tobe the picture of health. Go figure.
Yeah, so according to yeah, and I don't want to give away
too much when I believe it ornot coming up today, he had to

(49:31):
eat McDonald's for thirty straight days, and he had to supersize everything that he
wanted to eat. M h supersizeme. That was the name of the
film. So that supersizing beverages andfries. I mean, I guess you
could go double Big Max if youwanted to, or double Q piece of
cheese. That'd be supercized on thatpart. But now, granted I'm a
big mac fan myself, don't kidyourself. The fries are amazing, But

(49:54):
to do it for thirty straight daysand living gonna do that? So HELLI
aeron not the is all things aboutMorgan Spurlock s He unfortunately passes away due
to cancer at the age of justfifty three. It's way too young,
all right. News headlines the daythe Astros started series this weekend in Oakland,
Verlander against Stripling. We'll have itfor you on the On Deck Show

(50:15):
with mister Matthews' seven thirty back way. Are we paying you enough to do
all these hours of work today?I mean that might have to be a
discussion down the road, but yeah, everything's good, okay, very good.
And then we've got game number twoof the NBA Western Finals tonight between
Minnesota and Dallas with the Wolves downone. I think Dallas got that first

(50:37):
game victory. And what else wegot going on? Anything else? Sports,
Arlia, we need to get to. I mean, I think it's
Indy five hundred weekend. If that'syour fantasy it is. I think there's
that they had a slot out ofmind. Don't really particularly care. Right,
there's a run of the Middle PGATour event up in Fort Worth this
weekend, the Charles Schwabs. Somaybe if you want to watch a little

(50:59):
bit of golf, you can dothat. College baseball, I mean,
you've got the conference tournaments come intoa close. Yeah. My my son
paints with me here is so Ithink he's watching the agg East or the
bat To So he's he's losing hismind over the Eggies. He's very disappointed
how things turn out for them. They were in no matter what. So
Peyton, yeah, exactly there, they weren't exactly like LSU needed to have

(51:22):
a good weekend and they got itand for this one. Yeah, and
they could go to and Q andthey were fine. All right, let's
go to clay In Hockley at oneon nine on the Matt Thomas Show,
Clay good after doing What's on yourMind? Hello, Clay, Yeah,
how do you guys doing today? You guys were talking earlier about, uh,
how to get a Brady you toopen? I think he's pretty well

(51:45):
speared airlines. That's about as muchmornings he's called the organization. That's about
all these worse. But anyway,Uh, yeah, my Uh, I
got a couple of couple of thingsI want to ask you guys. One
is, uh, who do youguys think they're gonna send down when they
bring bring you up? What arethe seven ninety guys? Earlier this week

(52:05):
I was listening to was mentioning thelow Perfido uh, and that while that
would suck, I think that's Signletonto me is just gonna skate the low
two hundreds. He's I guess he'sjust you know, a body to fill
the hole. Run now. Butto me, if they send Lowperfrido down,
you put him at first base andSugar l answer every game, you
know, every game, and thenI think he's probably gonna be the most

(52:29):
viable option we've got for the firstbasement in the future. Uh, here's
what I would do, Clay,and I don't know if they're going to
do it. I would send Joeylittle Perfido down and play nothing but first
base at triple A bingo. Yeah, exactly what I'm saying. I think
that's a that he's your answer.Now. I don't know if he's the

(52:52):
answer, but I would like toget a better sample size because obviously there
have been just a couple of opportunitiesfor him to take over first base here
and they have decided not to dothat. Now, if you can't play
the position, if you can't play, he can't play it. But I
think we would be very it'd bevery keen on the Astros to at least
give him. If he's going togo down there and get four AB's a

(53:14):
game, why not do the exactsame thing and playing Enning's at first base
every game? Didn't he play atcollege first place in college though? Ye
freshman year he did, yeses freshmanyear. So and maybe he doesn't like
it. I mean, you know, we had him on the show a
couple weeks ago and he said, basically, I'll do whatever you want.
But he I do think he doeslike playing the outfield much more, and

(53:36):
you know, you'd ultimately want toput somebody that they're feeling comfortable with.
Uh. But I'll be honest, think about this, Clay, and thank
you for the phone call. Dan. If he wants to be a mainstand
this baseball team at least for anypart of this year, and let's say
that the bray you rebirth does notwork out, well, that helps you
further a littify yourself on the teamif you can at least convince your manager

(53:57):
and the coaching staff and the generalmanager that you know what, when you
bring it when you come back uphere. If you do that, we
can use you at first base ifwe need to. Well, I mean
then that's why I brought up theCody Bellinger in twenty seventeen scenario, because
they found that he was best usedat that moment at first base because you
had kind of a platoon situation overthere with Muncy and I think they were
using a couple of other guys aswell. But he ended up being there

(54:21):
as the season went along every dayfirst basement, and we saw it in
the World Series as well. Butyeah, major League service time, if
they tell him, hey, godown there, you're gonna be playing first
base every day, and you'll beback up here playing first base. He'd
say, absolutely, no problem, because, like I said, it's not
like if you put him at firstbase, he's all of a sudden once
he puts a first base glove onof getting the men in black little pin

(54:44):
to the face of oh, Iforgot how to play the outfield. He'll
remember how to play the outfield whenthey have a spot open for him up
here at the major league level thatcan allow for him to play the outfield,
and that'll be fine. He's notgonna lose anything there, but his
best chance right now, I haveto wait and see what happens with the
bray you is too good down thereand learn how to play first base every

(55:05):
single day, work with whatever infieldcoordinator there is to try to get him
ready. Like I think that wouldbe the charge. You send him down
there and you tell Mickey's story. He's at first base every single day,
and we're gonna have people there workingwith them. You know what I was
thinking about this, You were talkingabout this, What the hell's Great Kessinger
doing right now? I mean,he's on the roster, he's got a
roster spot. But ever, Imean it's you know where you're kind of

(55:34):
you're you're stuck in terms of theamount of position players you can have,
in the amount of pitchers you canhave, and obviously you're going to maximize
that pitching number because you can neverhave enough pitching. But I mean it
is a little bit surprising, likewhere you have him up here, so
at least get him a spot starthere and there. I mean, if
you want to use this guy, then use them. I mean, I

(55:54):
think he was in for defensive replacementin the Oakland Series at some point,
but I think he's got eleven atbats to his credit. Has he pitched
this year? Too? Am Iimagining that? Did they use them as
one of their position players? Ithink he did in a blah Yeah,
I mean I think it was theRoyals. Yeah, he might be more
valuable as a reliever than he isas a utility infielder. Well, I

(56:14):
mean I get it too, becausejose Al Twove plays every day, you
know, Jeremy Pania plays every day, Alex Bragman plays every single day,
so you're kind of locked in termsof where he can use them. But
I mean it's also too if you'regoing to use these off days like they
did with jose Al Tuove, Imean, the unfortunate truth is for him,
then your immediate option there is MauricioDubon Yeah one fourteen of the Matt

(56:37):
Tommys Show. Seven one three twoone two five seven. Honty Dan is
in Ferosa. I'm at here andwe are looking forward to talking with you
between now and three o'clock. Westill have got to get to this instable

(58:31):
dot com. Matt Thomas returns onSports Talk seven ninety. On Sports Talk
seven ninety, it is the MattThomas Show seven one three, two one
two five seven nine zero Coming toyou today from Las Vegas. Or I'm

(58:54):
still choked up trying to get overthis coffin cold being in smoking knows Dan,
not the great anecdote for that ornot anecdote, But what do you
call it? It like, sir, Yeah, recipe for recovery, put
it that way. Yeah, it'sit's all the things that probably are what

(59:15):
you don't need right there. Yeah. That the dryer is not bad though,
the dry air, the circulated airthere inside the casinos. I mean
it's one of those two that youknow, when you're at the table you're
not checking your phone very often,it can get dangerous where you finally look
down. Oh my god, it'sfour am. Oh yeah, finally I'm
done playing craps again. I've tiredof playing craps yesterday. I gotta have

(59:36):
a group. I have to havea group if I'm gonna do craps because
the vibes I like Jack to thecows come home, but I'm just down.
Yeah. By the way, wefound out yesterday, Ross and I
are gonna be coming out here inAugust for radio shows. We're gonna be
at Circa Downtown. We were thereyesterday. Congratulations. That's awesome. Yeah,
we're gonna be there in late Augustfor their big football pool national Championship

(01:00:00):
kind of contest and rolls to betelling you more about the next week or
so. But they're gonna have alittle radio row with a bunch of different
stations all across the country, andwe've been invited to want of them to
come there, so we're good foryou. That's awesome, it'd be good.
Let's go to Mike in Cyprus onSports Talk seven. Mike Good afternoon,
Good afternoon, how you guys doing, Matt and David Good want somebody

(01:00:24):
Hey, A couple of comments.First, I don't know why nobody gives
a chance for discussion for Alvarez atfirst base. If you consider, you
know, you don't want him bangit into any outfield walling time soon it
hurts something. It seems to methat the one bag is probably the least
likely to incurse some kind of aharder injury damage to the body. So

(01:00:47):
they're running around the outfield. Andthat's question that I want you guys just
thoughts. Why don't they don't lookat him? But I think his hitting
woes a little bit this year. He's not like in a major slub like
you know some people are. ButI think that he would play every day,
are more in the game, andhe played a lot more last year
with Dusty and he's not playing nearas much in the big scheme of things
in the outfield, and people aresaying he's not got his hitting eye out.

(01:01:10):
I don't know they're correlated or not, but I want your opinion on
first base and then I want youto give me your You guys talk about
aos all the time. I wantto do an OA over reate action.
I should say over action reated.Who do you think nationally? I should
say rated? Sorry my bad?Who do you think nationally? On the

(01:01:32):
astros is over rated Astro. That'swhy I mess to say overrated Astro.
It gets a lot of media attention, and when you watch him day to
day as a Houstonian, they actuallydon't deliver. Because I have I'm not
going to lead the witness but Iknow who I think it is. But
who do you guys think is anoverrated astro that gets a lot of respect
from opponents and a lot of nationalattention, but they actually don't deliver.

(01:01:55):
And there you go. Don't hangup. I'm cure is what your what's
your answer is? On that?Alex Bregman. It's always been and not
just this year. My son inlaw debate this all the time. He's
a huge Bragman fan. Personally.I hope they I hope they trade Bragman
so he gets a lot of nationalHe's had some big hits in the World

(01:02:16):
Series and playoff games. But asa scope of like I like to say,
like the ashle turm now in theback of the baseball card. Yeah,
Mike, we've got a rule hereon the show, we don't use
that phrase ever. Thanks, that'ssorry. Mistakes are made. I knew

(01:02:37):
to find that buzzard. I knewthat's where he was going. But good,
Yeah, give him his give himthe old zapp because that's got that.
We gotta we got a zapp thoughwe don't use that phrase in that
show ever. There it is thereyou got, Mike, that's for you.
I mean Alok Bregman on Fox TVwhere you know or TBS that carries

(01:03:01):
the games, right, those arethe playoffs, that's the playoff partners.
He's been great. Now, Soif you're asking the national people to say,
who comes up with clutch hits anddoes things and moves people around and
hits home runs and helps win gameswhen you're on the national television playing in

(01:03:22):
a playoff series, I mean Bregman'sis he hadn't been the top guy.
I mean probably Al Tuvey and andyou're not. I've been those top guys
and Kyle Tucker to a lesser extent, but U I mean Bregman has been
right there. So it's kind ofit's kind of a weird to say,
name somebody that has been nationally belovedbut locally isn't nearly as good. So
if you're I guess, what Iwould say is, I don't want to

(01:03:44):
compare what a guy does for mein October than what he does and if
he's in the middle of a rutduring the heart of the season, now
is Bragman. Look, people knowwho Bregman is that we're doing this year,
and you can't hide the numbers. You also can't the fact Dan that
he's on a contract season. Imean, that's a storyline that has been
discussed well throughout baseball, not justhere in Houston. No, I mean,

(01:04:06):
and it's also too I knew exactlywhere he was going with that.
That's why I was glad that youasked him to go ahead and give it.
And then of course we got theshot with the chaser. It's prisoner
of the moment for right now becausethe moment he's not been great. I
get all of that, but it'salso too you know, I was talking
about how earlier, you know, blame the media. You can't blame the

(01:04:26):
media on this one. Blame theguy. He's the one who said it
himself. I'm primed to have areally great season. I mean, I'm
paraphrasing him, of course, buthe's the one who called his shot.
And I think that's probably what's alsoexacerbating all of this is it goes back
to the videos making fun of Nativevalde in the twenty eighteen ALCS and the
Native Valdy shoved, so of coursethat kind of raised people's intenna. Then

(01:04:48):
it was going on a podcast,We're gonna be a dynasty we're not just
gonna win one, and that raisedpeople's intenna even more so. I get
it. I mean, he's puthimself in position to get this attention and
what way he's played, for themost part, it's been warranted. But
in terms of saying that he's beenoverrated, you're not in these positions without
him being here. Yeah, it'skind of a kind of a weird question.

(01:05:14):
I would say right now if youare a watching national media shows because
sport national sports ratos in which whywould you do that to yourself? But
go ahead, Yeah, you're right, Yeah, break there's nobody. There's
nobody falsifying Bregman's woes. So it'skind of a loaded question. Not to
not that I don't want to giveyou an answer, but there is nobody
right now that is being miss characterized. It comes to that, I would

(01:05:39):
say, the people who I wouldbe willing to listen to in that arena
are the people on MLB Network, and Mark De Rosa and Chris Young both
gave him his flowers last week forthe adjustments he's made at the plate.
So if you're going to ask meto go in the shallow end of the
pool with any of the others, because that's what National TV is for sports.

(01:05:59):
It's the shit. It's hey,you know, this is what America
cares about. No, this iswhat you think America cares about. And
if I'm going to have anybody onGet Up or any of these other shows
talking about Alex Bregmant, the grainof salt that I have in my fingertips
is going to be incredibly small, all right, And then real quick to
answer his question, I think yournine will get another opportunity to play first

(01:06:23):
base, but it's not gonna bea time in an unforeseeable future. It's
towards the end of his career.Yeah, yeah, I mean this is
a conversation we've been having about himfor three or four years now. This
If they haven't thought about it orhaven't taken him an off season to do
something, then it's just not goingto change. It's just not It have
to be a spring training thing. It would have to be a I don't

(01:06:45):
know if he plays the Venezuelan WinterLeague or anything like that. Like that's
what would have to happen is you'dhave to have tons of work go in.
And it's also too why do youwant to put a ton of work
on somebody that has been incredibly successfuldoing what they're doing. Yep, that's
for sure, all right. Onetwenty eight on The Matt Thomas Show,
We've got a college baseball news itemto drop for you in a couple of

(01:07:08):
seconds. Nothing. We did spenda lot of time talking college baseball for
that matter anytime, but we've gotthat for you. And speaking of colleges,
the Ends of LA is going toopen up their checkbooks for the first
time ever. How that will impactcollege athletics. I don't think anybody has
any idea at this point. Sevenone three two one two five seven ninety

(01:07:28):
seven one three two, one twofive seven ninety one twenty nine. We're
halfway done. Come with us,Hang with us on Anything Goes Friday.
This is Sports Talk seven ninety whatthirty three on The Matt Thomas Show.
Nice have you with us here?As I'm coming to you from Las Vegas.

(01:07:49):
Dan Matthews, the show killer fromthe A Team, is stepping in
and helping out the cause. Idon't think he's killed the show at this
point, which is a good thing. Uh, We've got non Flora stories
coming up at two thirty This afternoon, and we've got hell Yeah or Not
at two fifty today Morgan Spurlock, the documentarian, passing away at the age

(01:08:10):
of fifty three due to cancer. So Neil say, a man that has
been got an interesting life, soto speak, and I will highlight and
low light some of those things comingup on today's edition of Helly are not
at two fifty. By the way, A college small college baseball note,
Lance Berkman out at Houston Christian Universityevery years on the job. He resigned

(01:08:32):
today his mark forty seven wins andone hundred and four losses. Yeah,
I had a little bit of arough time there. You know, it's
hard to win in college baseball nowmore than ever. Because I have a
buddy of mine who's a college coach, and I asked him about pitching and
he's like, oh, it's worsethan it's ever been. And I go,
why is that? He goes becauseany kid who has any ability whatsoever,

(01:08:57):
the pro teams tell him, youneed to take this because you're gonna
go to college and they're gonna throwyou two hundred plus innings a year and
you're gonna be burnt out and yourvalue to the pros at that point is
going to be much lower than itis right now. Yeah, and uh
and and look, I know somepeople already see you. They're they're very
nice people. But Houston Christian justdoes not have any sort of athletic prowess

(01:09:20):
at all. It honestly, heprobably never should take in the job to
begin with. It just wasn't gonnawork out. Their facilities are not Division
one. You're already in a toughstate as it is when it comes to
grabbing players. It just it justwasn't never meant to be. It was
just not gonna happen. He wasgonna have to pull miracles out basically,

(01:09:40):
and it just couldn't do it.Well. It's also too I mean,
you find out when you're at aprogram like that, there's more work that
goes into it. I mean, you know, I think that I think
his name is Jay Siriani, thecoach at Sam Houston State. They've done
a really pretty good job for beinga program that is not do to be
able to win, and Jose CruzJunior is running into that problem right now.

(01:10:03):
Over at Rice. A lot ofpeople thought Todd Whitoding was gonna win
over at U of h a lotmore than they have. I mean it's
yeah, it's it's tough because, like I said, you know, now
more than ever, with the informationthat's out there, kids aren't just looking
at these college programs and saying,oh, I have to play there.
It's more or less of oh,is that where I need to go?
Because I'm a draft and follow guyand I'm not quite ready to take that

(01:10:27):
step in my career just yet.So I go to college and maybe I'm
a higher draft pick when it's allsaid and done, and you know,
and I OL money coming into playif you're anything worth a draft pick or
going to college, and like Isaid, burning your arm ount, I
don't think I would do it well. I mean, why would you go
anywhere other than like an LSU ora Texas or an Arizona State or somewhere

(01:10:49):
like that if you're good enough toplay there and they offer you absolutely,
I mean I think that you knowthe way to win at programs like HCU.
You got to be huge in thetransfer. You've got to be huge
in terms of hey, howd theymissed this guy coming out of the junior
college, Like that's that's where youhave to go. With that, and
I think that probably it got toa certain point. I don't want to

(01:11:10):
speak for Lance, but I meanyou kind of find out, man,
this is really a lot of workfor maybe not a ton of return on
the time investment that you're gonna bethrown into this. Yeah, yeah,
and it's just again, HU justdoesn't have the financial wherewithal to compete with
even teams in the South Conference. They just don't. And so yeah,

(01:11:31):
I wish Lance the very best.I know Lance wants to be a coach
very badly, but I think thisprobably not knowing Lance for well, but
my guess is probably burned them outa little bit now one hundred percent it
does. I mean it's you haveno life as a college coach, and
now, especially with the transfer portaland everything else that you've thrown into it,
you have less of a life thanyou already didn't have, if that

(01:11:56):
makes any sense. Yeap seven toAnnie Greg with us on the Matt Thomas
Show, who won thirty eight?Greg? How is your Friday treating you
well? Awesome? Man? Hey, I'm sixty eight years old. I
grew up in Saint Louis, soI saw some pretty good teams Okay,
I've been in Houston since eighty three. What bothers me is the blame game.
You know, you blame Jeff Begwallfor making a bad decision with Jose

(01:12:19):
maybe, And then I don't carewhat Jose makes, Okay, it's none
of my business how much money theypay him. He has a problem,
and I feel for him because hehas a problem. And because I'm older,
I've had a step down from aposition that I couldn't do anymore.
My season was over, okay, and I have a lesser job now.

(01:12:41):
It doesn't make me any less ofa man. I just don't understand all
these people that want to pound himbecause he makes whatever he makes, you
know, and I go to likethirty games a year. You know,
I'm not a fair weather fan.It just bothers me that everybody seen to
know, you know, they wantto know everybody's business. And I'll let

(01:13:02):
you go with that, brother,Okay, all right, Well, I
want to disagree with you a littlebit on this, first of all,
and I hope you you're still onthe line there, Greg I. We're
not we're not attacking his character. We're not we're not We're not saying that
Jose's a bad person. In fact, from what I understand, Jose is
a very good person, is avery good teammate. He's been very flustered

(01:13:25):
by his lack of progress. Thisis not about a personal attack towards Jose
and his work ethic, his abilitiesto try to get become better. I
mean accepting the assignment to go downto Florida was not easy for him,
for a guy that has been aformer American League MVP. So this is
this is about, unfortunately, Greg, the business of professional sports, and

(01:13:47):
you are absolutely one hundred percent attachedto your position and your salary and the
criticism that comes with it. IfJose Abray, you was not signed here
for nineteen and a half million dollarsfor three seasons, that money could have
been spent on someone else either cheaper, or you could have reduced the contract.

(01:14:13):
I mean it only one or twoyears. You have to answer four
contracts. That's a general manager thathas to do that. You have to
answer the player that has to answerfor that. So unfortunately, while not
personal, it is a huge requirementas a professional player to live up to
your contract and that comes with criticism, and unfortunately for Jose, it is

(01:14:38):
one hundred percent warranted. I agreewith you there, but's not personal.
Greg, thank you for the phonecall. I appreciate you listening. To
have a good weekend. And mostof the guys get that. I mean
that play professional sports, and Iguess women too. But in terms of
the example you're using here, hegets that. He understands that, I

(01:14:58):
mean a brave you even said asmuch. I forget who he had said
it to in an article right beforehe took the demotion where he was like,
I think the thing that hurts themost is I know that I'm letting
this team down. Like that's thething that hurts the most. And you
want to root for a guy likethat because he knows that the expectations are
here for him. He wants tostill be that guy. Whether he can

(01:15:19):
still be that guy is yeah,I guess still to be determined. But
I mean, in terms of everythingelse, it's the fans that are doing
that. It's not me and you, it's not most of us who are
on these airwaves pointing to the salarybecause it's low hanging fruit. And that's
the whole thing. Oh, we'rereally paying you this much to do this.

(01:15:39):
That's the low hanging fruit that's beingused there. None of us are
doing that. And I mean, you know, if you want to take
the good that comes with being aprofessional athlete, guess what also comes with
it as well? People who wantto criticize you and want to make you
at the easy target because you're notdoing well. That's part of it.
Yeah, I mean think about this. Was doing what he's done the last

(01:16:01):
year and a half, he's makingfive million dollars a year, the Astros
would have released him and everybody wouldhave said, sorry, Jose didn't work
out. And also here's the otherpart as well, the whole oh that
should be privates, you know hissalary. No, no, that's never
gonna happen. They're not a privatecompany, Matt like they like they're actually
they are, But so I guessit is up to them if they want

(01:16:24):
to. But it's also too it'swhat is done in professional sports that gets
out either through them or through theagent. Somebody gets those figures out.
You don't necessarily see the teams throwingthe number out. It's mostly you have
to go to the representation or eventhe player themselves and ask them like,
hey, what was the aav onthat and they'll sometimes tell you sometimes tell
you to get lost. Well, they're not going to because the agent wants

(01:16:47):
to brag about how he got muchmoney act as client. So that's not
going to ever happen. Seven onethree, two one two five seven ninety
seven to one three two one twofive seven nine zero. We take this
program until three o'clock the day ofNon Floors Stories at two thirty and Helly
Garon on at two fifty one fortythree on the show for a moment.
Now, I want to tell youabout quality Home Products at Texas seven to

(01:17:11):
one to three. Quality is anumber that you should have memorized by now.
If you hear me talk about itfor any length of time, they're
not gonna let you down. QualityHome Products of Texas wants to get you
a stand by generator from Generak that'sgonna give you power when you lose it,
and lord knows, in the lastmonth or so, we're losing power
on the regular. It is aheavy investment, but it's gonna be worthwhile
because your refrigerator is gonna be working, your microwave is gonna work, and

(01:17:34):

(01:18:19):
you aren't a failure until you startblaming someone else or now pitch for the
A's. Hey, this is MikeFires. Sometimes I'm getting fired up from
more Houston Sports Talk. Back toMatt Thomas on Sports Talk seven ninety Astros
baseball lives here. I don't knowwhy Dan that continues to play after all

(01:18:43):
these years. I've asked multiple times, get rid of it the rat.
What does Mike Fires do in thesedays? I mean, have any baby
idea. Oho probably waxing poetically ata bar like a loser, you eating.
I was finishing up some chips.Yes, it's good meal. Did

(01:19:08):
you buy these chips or did someonegive them to you? No? I
bought them. I went next door, all right, got me a nice
ticket. Would you like to takeone of your chips and bite them on
the air and here we can hearthe crunch. I think I actually finished
them all. I tried to dolike a quick little just shovel in and
go and yeah, so some ofyou got to know. I got to

(01:19:30):
enjoy some good salt and vinegar chips. If anybody wants to know, okay,
they were delivered a fantasy on chips, that'd be a good one.
Maybe we have I don't know weI feel we've run out of categories.
But uh, for me, thegoat of chips would have to be the
lazes, sour cream and onion.Very good. I am especially in the
onset of kettle kettle chips that areout there. I am a huge fan

(01:19:55):
of the crunch, like I need, I need crunch. I like the
kettle, but I need a littledip with it too. I just can't
eat just kettle chips by themselves. But I feel like the sour cream and
onion that you said, like,if you're doing the dip, then you
have to go multiple chips because justthe one it's gonna break off from the
dip. True, the lace ispretty flimsy. Yeah, so I mean
you're probably having to go two orthree stacked right there, and it's still

(01:20:18):
really good. I'm not I'm notagainst it whatsoever, but yeah, I
mean a good little French onion dip. That's that's a good play, I'll
tell you what. And you couldalso do a Fantasy five on dips as
well, if you want to dothat. Yeah, a great buffalo chicken
dip is unmatched. Buffalo chicken dip. Yes, dude, stop it.

(01:20:42):
Don't do this, Matt. Thisis me being a friend telling you French
onion ranch ummm bean, No,no, what are there there's dips that
are better. I was gonna say, Caeso is obviously definitely for sure.

(01:21:05):
Yeah, guacamole if you want to, if you want to. I'm not
a guak fan, so it's reallyOh yeah, that's disappointing. Yeah,
that's fine. I mean it's morefor me. I mean it's also too
You've got to have guawk fresh like. You can't do these store bought.
It's already mashed everything like, putsome effort into it. You can do

(01:21:26):
it yourself. You can break outthe fork, smash up the avocado,
throwing the halopenos if you want, throwing some dice tomatoes. It's it is
worth it in the end if youdo it that way. All right.
Well, I've been trying trying totry and enjoy guak for decades and it
just doesn't do it for me.The texture just makes me no. I
can understand that. I mean youlike you like mushrooms. I don't really

(01:21:48):
like mushrooms. Oh you're high. Then let's go to By the way,
how about a for a dip?A uh? The I do like the
Alvocado spin spin a chart choked dip. I do, oh, spin a
chart chokes fantastic. Absolutely Jimmy andTomball on the Matt Thomas and and it

(01:22:11):
goes Friday, Jimmy, good afternoon, Good afternoon to y'all. By the
way, chicken a buffalo chicken dip. Amazing. You're stirring some cream cheese
in there, some regular cheese Icooked mind hot and then let it cool
off a little bit and then youneed a nice stick, either Fredo or
I love those kettle chips I wastalking about. Jimmy is automatically the best
caller of the day, Matt whatever. Uh. Secondly, today was very

(01:22:36):
enjoyable. Uh next up show probablythe best in the history of the show.
So I just wanted to thank forall of y'all who participated at that,
Matt. As you know, I'ma huge Ash Shows fan. But
you, being the voice of theRockets is I'll listen when they're playing just
because i'd rather listen. I enjoyyour voice, but you but I'm still

(01:23:00):
trying to learn stuff. What iswhat is a loose ball foul? And
I'll hang up the mist of areyou serious? You run on a loose
ball foul? Is? For real? Don't? I don't know who it's
designed to. I thought, like, like, I know what technicol sometimes
they'll just let anybody go shoot afree throw. But I really don't know
what a loose ball foul or like, how does it count against the team?
Is it not a team? It'sit's a team foul. A loose

(01:23:25):
ball foul is a foul that doesoccur when the ball is in the air
or is not gained by possession byanybody, so it doesn't necessarily be a
sign to a person. I'll giveyou case in point. I am the
offensive player. Dan is a defensiveplayer. I shoot a fifteen foot free

(01:23:46):
throw jumper. I miss it.I go to attack the glass to go
get the rebound, and I goover the top of Dan to grab that
rebound, committing a foul. Thatwould be a loose ball foul. Not
getting around me. Yeah, clearlyyour girth is that's gonna be an issue
for sure. Yes, over theit'd be the most The most common example

(01:24:09):
of a loose ball foul is somebodygoing over the back of somebody. Okay,
I did not know that, buttake it. You got it.
That's what I'm here for. That'sa that's that's a textbook Google empty question.
I like it. Yeah. Howabout how are you gonna lose all
this weight of you eating these kettlechips? What are you? What are
you doing back there? I mean, you're supposed to enjoy yourself every once

(01:24:30):
in a while. Can I cana man enjoy himself and have a nice
sandwich with some chips? What kindof sandwich. Did you have h the
Italian? Okay, I mean it'syeah, it's not one of the healthier
options. But look, can Itell you this, This hotel we're staying
at, the B York B Yorkhas nothing but fattening food. Oh.
Of course, casinos in Vegas, that's what they're known for is great buffets.

(01:24:53):
Which there is a particular casino therethat has the all time greatest buffet
THEO. Yeah it's guy. It'sit's got a nice little fountain out in
front of it, fountain of chocolateor just a fountains in general. Oh,
the fountain out in front of thecasino. Like no free plugs here.
I can't just throw out the casinorhyme it so we can figure it
out. Milagio. That's where we'regoing tonight. Fantastic. How much is

(01:25:16):
it? It's it's a it's apretty penny, but I mean in terms
of what you're getting, like,it's not like the buffet that Randy Quaid
and that Chevy Chase went to inVegas vacation. Like they actually don't mix
up the green and the blue. All right, So real quick before I
got I got one because I'm seriously, we're going to see Beatles shirt tonight
at the de Lagio. Mm hmm, I'm gonna look at too much the

(01:25:41):
cost it's fantastic. I think yougotta be super hungry to that buffet,
right, I mean you gotta. You don't want to you don't want to
waste the money here. Well,I mean just get you a little walk
in before and work up a littlebit of an appetite. Yeah, I
mean you've got the crab legs.Oh. I mean you've got all of
the good fresh cold seafood right there, the shrimp. Then you've got all

(01:26:01):
the fixings that you can have onthe buffet, the carving stations. It's
it's amazing. I mean there arethere I'm marrying into a family or the
mother in law, like, anytimeI bring up a buffet, she gets
just visibly almost sick that I evenhave that as an idea. But I
do not look past a buffet, sir. Well, I think if i'mbody
seen you, they would they wouldnot argue with that point. I thought

(01:26:21):
you were gonna have a better onethan that. It's yeah, I'm more
looking at the price here. Asa girl once told me, I look,
well, fed uh. Okay,so it looks like to me it's
about thirty one ninety nine, whichdoesn't seem that's steal. You know what

(01:26:42):
I'm gonna I gotta finish a hellhe or not? Would you find the
price for me for this because Igot it to go with the meat tonight.
I got you yes. By theway, the reviews on it is
just okay three point eight reviews.Reviews are stupid. Most people who do
them are just angry people. Youever noticed there's nobody nobody ever does a
review. Oh I love this place. It was so great everybody. Eh
I I had a hair on mynapkin. That's already one star right there.

(01:27:06):
Most people who do reviews are justdumb people. Okay, well I
don't I don't know reviews. Iget you are you're not a dumb person,
all right? Thank you? Allright? You gotta find out for
me what's gonna cost me to goto the Delaijah. I'm on it coach
to eat and I'm gonna finish uphelly are not? Seven one three two
one two five seven euty if youwant to get in it and anything goes
Friday seven one three two one twofive seven nine zero. The NCBLA is

(01:27:32):
writing checks now we'll discuss that nextstart the final hour of The Matt Thomas
Show seven one three two one twofive seven ninety with a word coming up
in the start of the final hour, next lunchtimers, This is the Matt
Thomas Show, Final hour of andanything goes Friday on The Matt Thomas Show

(01:27:55):
seven one three two one two fiveseven ninety. If you want to jump
into the conversation seven one three twopoint two five seven ninety. Ross is
off today and uh, he'll beworking Monday on the Astros coverage and then
back with the whole gang here onthe midday show on Tuesday. Dan,
You've got Astros on deck tonight andthat starts at seven point thirty. Brian

(01:28:16):
Acterrable join you as part of that. First pitch from Oakland is at eight
forty. It's smart for them toplay these games at six fours. People
out of Oakland faster, because Lordknows you don't want to be an Oakland
at eleven o'clock at night. Iwas gonna say, I mean, do
you think there's actually people still goingto A's games that are like die hard?
I love my A's, I'll neverleave them. No. I think

(01:28:39):
it's basically just you've been given ticketsby a friend of yours and you're just
gonna go waste some time because Imean, it's first of all, terrible
part of town, terrible stadium, there's nothing redeeming. The A's are terrible
again, They've they've been lost alot of games. As of late,
there's nothing and they're leaving town. Why would why would anybody in the Bay
Area have any interest in going towatch an A's game. I was gonna
say, I mean, if ifI've got the choice, but between the

(01:29:00):
two and I've I've been to,I still call it pack Bell. I've
been there twice, even though SanFrancisco's guy It's warts, but I still
really enjoyed my time over there,So yeah, I would. I would
probably choose that one. I willsay this, if for those of you
that are thinking about road trips, pack whatever they call it, a the

(01:29:21):
Giants Ballpark is really good, butdo not go to one night game there
under any circumstance. Both of themI went to time it's just too cold.
Oh I got you. Yeah,No, both of the ones we
went to and yeah, it was. It was fairly chilly. I mean
in the second game. We actuallyboth times I went, we had club
level seats and it's like minute madeclosed off inside club level. We ended

(01:29:44):
up hanging out at the bar there. So if you're going to a Giants
game in San Francisco, go tothe day games. They have lots of
them. They do all their weekendgames during the day, and they always
do a lot of midweek two.So do not ever, ever, ever
go to one Nike game unless youare packed, like if thirty seven degrees,
yeah, it gets chilli, andthen it's also too awful. But
the crazy thing is the buddy ofmine's from out there, and he said,

(01:30:08):
hey, seventh inning, look outat McCovey Cove and you see the
seagulls starting to circle. And it'suncanny, like they know when the game
is over and they immediately start swoopinginto the bleachers out there and start eating
whatever they can. Yeah, allright, real quick, We've been teasing
this all day long. I gotinto the room last night and you know
how you you know Pacific time ortwo hours behind, so we're watching kind

(01:30:29):
of old sports centers. Van Peltwas doing his show on a repeat,
and he had said the nz toLA has struck an agreement with the Power
five schools, which is really nowjust Power four to pay athletes on the
college campuses for being in various sports. Nobody knows exactly who's getting what and

(01:30:54):
how much they're getting and how manyplayers get it, or how many different
athletes and which sports. But thewheels are at churn in Dan at the
ends of LA is going to takethis incredible revenue they've been able to accomplish
gathering by the television rights and themarketing rights for both football and in the
March Madness basketball tournament, and they'regoing to send that money back to the

(01:31:15):
athletes a small portion of it,actually a pretty solid a portion. But
I mean, trust me, they'restill going to be very profitable. But
every school is going to have tofigure out a way through proceeds to pay
athletes to compete for these universities. So the world of amateur athletics, my

(01:31:38):
guess is, in the next twelveto eighteen months, will be completely gone.
When you go to compete in college, you will be compensated. I
don't know what it's going to behow much, but you will be compensated
for your time and effort. Well, the gates were open once Name Image
and Likeness was greenlit, and Iunderstand that a lot of it too was
you had a bunch of different statesdoing what stay its rights are and saying,

(01:32:00):
well, of course, we're goingto allow for our doing air quotes
student athletes to be able to makemoney. Because I always kind of really
scrunch my nose whenever I would heara college administrator, Oh, our student
athletes, that's cute, that's nice. But credit to the NC DOUBLEA for
finally having enough awareness to realize, yeah, we're a sham, and we've

(01:32:23):
been a sham, and we'll continueto be a sham, but at least
this way we can be less ofone and somewhat, you know, give
people what they've always wanted, andthat is for us to be able to
cut them in on just this again, there's that word sham that they've been
running for years, and I lovetoo. We talked about this earlier on
Next Up when I was in withGordy, that they're going to ramp up

(01:32:45):
their enforcement of Name, Image andLikeness collectives. You better not bite the
wrong hand if you're the NC DOUBLEA, because what's going to happen is you
go after Ohio State, Michigan,Georgia, LSU, somebody like that that
has enough pull in this, they'regoing to go to all of those other
programs and say, the hell withthese guys, let's create our own football
league. Yeah. Now, oneof the prerequisites for this is if anybody

(01:33:10):
starts taking money for the ns ofLA, you do give up legal rights
to sue them for anything else downthe road. They're saying, we're going
to set this payment whatever this paymentnumber is, excuse me, and you
can out ask for more. Well. I mean again, that's the awareness
of it is. They knew thatif they continue to fight this, they
would continue to lose because the courtshave basically deemed them. If I'm not

(01:33:33):
mistaken and seven one three two onetwo five seven ninety if there's a legal
expert out there that knows more clearlyyou do if you're an attorney, but
they're pretty much unconstitutional. I mean, that's pretty much what the courts have
told them that they are. Like, you're trying to say that they're amateurs,
will define amateurs. They can't doit. So then the courts are
like, Okay, well, thenthat's ridiculous. We're in a free,

(01:33:56):
open society here where people should beallowed to make money. I'm gonna tell
you all something here, and we'regonna go to the phone calls this second.
My daughter is a sophomore in highschool. She's finishing upper sophomore year,
and we believe, knock on wood, as long as she behaves herself
and continues to progress, my daughteris going to be a Division one volleyball
player. And so I will havenot the awareness that a Division one football

(01:34:23):
player would have if I had ason that was that or a son who
was a Division one basketball player, but I'll have some frame of reference to
figure out what she's going to beable to get. And I'll be more
than happy to tell y'all because Idon't know. I've never had gone through
this before, and nor is anybodyelse. I mean, will there be
a situation and no one knows theanswers this. If you go to a

(01:34:45):
power for school, you're gonna getmoney to compete, and then if you're
not a power power for school,I guess you're not going to get money
to compete, which I think atthis point would then, and not that
anybody overly cares Dan, but it'sgoing to further separate the haves and the
have nots, No, one hundredpercent. And that's why you quickly saw

(01:35:09):
the Big ten in the SEC sayingyeah, we're good, we'll do it,
because they're swimming in money over there. The ACC they're better than the
Big twelve, but they're not anywhereclosed. Like there is a massive gap
between those two and the other twothat I just mentioned, and they're the
ones that probably will start to getPilford first. Yeah, and then you

(01:35:29):
know the mid majors out there,I mean, they have almost no chance
to be able to compete. Soit's trending towards being the power schools and
saying, hey, let's just playeach other and then we'll play for the
national title at the end of theyear. And people might say, oh,
that's not great for the game. You know, it's not great for
the game. Louisiana Lafayette making thenational championship game, that's not great for

(01:35:51):
the game. But it's never goingto happen. I mean, we're let
me just stay real quick. Ifthere's a CBS story that came out today,
winners and losers in this and basically, the winners are the athletes because
they're getting compensation. The winners areboosters and fan pocket books because now they
don't have to worry about having tocollect as munch on the nil because they're

(01:36:15):
already gonna the NBA is going togive these players some money, so there's
not gonna be the pressure to paythese people. The winner is the instabile
a tournament, because that's gonna beI mean, I'm trying to read here.
It allows full breakaway for the powerforward to go away to you know
you're talking about before the lawyers wonbecause they were the ones that were going

(01:36:39):
to be in the situation. They'regonna be filing this anti trust lawsuit.
And the winners are the big tenin the SEC because of the two cast
flush conferences. The losers in accordingto this story, and it's a CBS
to Warts story, is well worththat you guys reading, the losers are
the instable a because they were soldnone of this money. Now they have
to give it up competitive balance. So if it wasn't a balance now it's

(01:37:03):
even gonna get worse. Non revenuesports. I really believe you're gonna see
tennis and golf and cross country andsoccer are going to really suffer. And
mid level department bloat is what they'recalling it as well. Well, all

(01:37:23):
of that is true. And Imean, you know you have those non
revenue sports. That's why it's soimportant for schools to be so singularly focused
on football, because at least ifyou're in either of those two conferences that
you just mentioned and you're not competitivein football, then you're dead in the
water. Because when you've got Georgiadoing what they're doing, you've got Alabama

(01:37:44):
doing what they're doing. Do youhave A and M you know, by
hook or by crook trying every singleway to be really good. They just
can't get out of their own waywhen it comes to actually playing football LSU.
I mean it's and it's also tooI mean you see it over at
you of age. I mean whythe university president is so involved in trying
to make the football program great. It's great what Kelvin Sampson and the basketball

(01:38:05):
program have done. That's awesome, but they will not take that next step
until the football program over on ColinBoulevard is much better than what they've been.
All Right, let's go take acouple of phone calls. We'll talk
to Kenneth and Alan. We'll getto you guys next. Plus will Jose

(01:38:26):
speak tonight before the Sugarlane game. You'll find out next two thirteen on The
Matt Thomas Show seven one three, two one two five, seven ninety With

The absolute finest Internet I have everhad at my house. Streaming not an
issue, working on the computer, not a problem, playing video games all

(01:38:51):

in it that are trying to domultiple things at the same time. Thacchus

experience of a wonderful Internet company thatI have been able to use in my
home for a better part of ayear. And you can too. Tha
c ch us dot com techis dotcom slash Radio. This is the Matt

(01:39:16):
Thomas Show on Sports Talk seven ninety. We have non Flora stories coming up
at about twelve minutes here on theMatt Thomas Show. So y'all get ready
for that and then we have ahelly are not at two fifties, So
we've got a lot of things toget to between now and three o'clock.
But I want to get a coupleof phone calls them and get some nice

(01:39:36):
patient folks that want to talk. And we'll start with Kenneth on the Matt
Thomas Show at two nineteen. Kenneth, how are you? Heah, I'm
doing figgured huw. Both of yougentlemen doing today great? Thank you for
dollaning. What's up? So twothings. One, I'll just say I
don't know how you're not able tojust like accidentally hang up on people when
they call them for believe it ornot. You're like best part of showing

(01:39:57):
you like believe it or not?Like yes, say, I was just
I was like, man, y'allneed to have a lot of accidental drops.
But sports related. I once agame on Wednesday and some people were
sitting behind me and kept on bashinga Spata and the angel's picture was out
of his mind and they were makingsome great defensive stops. It's like,
I don't understand how Aspata is justa scapegoat for almost everything that's going wrong

(01:40:23):
for well, I see most ofthe him. I know you guys were
commenting on DEAs earlier, but Ijust can't see how like you're saying,
you know, a spoty needs tothrow the ball, he needs to hit
the ball, and just you know, it throws me off a little bit.
I'll let you guys complete that, all right. Yeah, managers get
blamed all the time. Thanks guyingfor the phone call for the silliest things.

(01:40:43):
Look, Joe Spotta is acting likea typical first year manager. Dan.
He's going to make some mistakes,he's going to learn. I don't
know if he's going to be agreat manager, but I'm certainly not going
to say he's allows you one throughthe first fifty or so games, no
bingo. I mean that's we'll startthere. I mean there is no training
than on the job, training fordoing this job, and he's learning the
hard way. And in your firstyear you're going to have a lot of

(01:41:06):
times where people look and say, hmm, maybe maybe a little bit in
and over your head because you're learning. I mean, like there is he
can call every mentor that he has, and he's got some good ones,
but he's not going to be ableto figure it out unless he does it
himself. It's no different than hostinga radio show. It's no different than
doing any other job. The firsttime that you actually do a job of

(01:41:28):
some consequence, you're going to fail. Like that's going to happen. And
the other part of it as wellis baseball manager is right up there with
offensive coordinator in football. You can'twin for losing because nobody is ever going
to say you were the one whomade a great play happen. They're only
going to say, how dumb areyou for calling that play? It's not

(01:41:48):
the player's fault, it's your faultfor even calling it in the first place.
Yeah, so I just I'm notgoing to do much hammering again.
Who would have thought his first basementwould have completely imploded? Who would have
thought he would have numerous injuries allover the place. Who would have thought
his third basement would have underachieved? There's just a lot of things that are

(01:42:12):
out of a spot in his hands. Well, I will say this though,
in fairness, I mean you've hadnow a couple of different instances.
One of the reports the Nightingale, one of players a little disgruntled about his
communication abilities. Again, that's afirst year guy trying to learn how to
go through this, and some ofthose things will work themselves out. The
Fromer thing I thought was pretty interesting, and I do think that Joe,

(01:42:33):
I'll give him credit, he handledit correctly. Where you address it,
you deal with it with him,and you move on, because, I
mean, if nothing else, itkind of gets the perception out there,
fair or not, that you're notin control. And I think that he
did his best pretty quickly to assertcontrol of saying, Hey, we don't
do that around here. I don'tcare what you did in twenty two.

(01:42:57):
That's not how we're going to dothings in this club else. All right,
let's continue on the phones. Let'sgo to Alan and Tomball on the
Matt Thomas Show at two twenty two. Alan, thanks for warning. What's
going on with you today? Hey? Happy weekend or where it's gonna be
great memorrow weekend? Yeah? Firstof all, let me let me say
my brother in law, he's ahe's a power line guy. Thanks to

(01:43:19):
all of them guys. They comein from all over state to help us
get back on track. Cuse Iknow they work their cans off. Nothing
is I want to ask about?Uh, this is the portal thing that's
going on. Uh, this kid'sgonna get salary so much a mother or

(01:43:40):
how does that work? Well, they don't know it just yet, but
there's gonna be compensation going to powerfor schools. So if your if your
son plays tennis at Vanderbilt or playssoccer at Northwestern, there's gonna be compensation.
If you're her daughter plays football orvolleyball or basketball at say Arkansas State

(01:44:04):
or UAB, that is not apart of it at this point. So
what's so what would keep one ofthese young hots prospect you know, wide
receivers, quarterbacks, you know they'regonna get I don't know, whatever couple
just to get a couple of hundredthousand dollars I don't know. Yeah,

(01:44:25):
and just say what go keep themfrom laying You know what, I'm gonna
go bet two hundred thousand on thisgame and in the second quarter, I'm
just gonna happen to get hurt.Well, Number one, there's not gonna
be a single book that's going totake that bet because they're going to notice
with the jump in action there that'ssomething is afoot. Number two. I

(01:44:46):
mean it is such a well,I mean it's possible. But because they
could get someone else to bet themoney for him, they could. But
they could do that right now.I mean, there's there's nothing holding them
back from shaving points right now, even though they're not being paid by the
NCAA Intabla is not giving them money, and it's all of a sudden saying
now let's go gamble this. Imean, if you want to go point

(01:45:09):
shave, you could go do ittomorrow. I may not be able to
do it for two undred fifty thousanddollars, but if I you know,
if you're a quarterback of a particularteam and you're looking to make some money
and you want to take those chances, go get your ready to put thousand
dollars on a game. You canstill make it that way too. Are
you all fans of thea A whatyou know, area? Thank you?

(01:45:30):
Yeah, they're corrupt, they're they'reokay. I'm not a fan of them
either. I hate them. Iwish we should get rid of them.
Yeah. Well, the problem isyou can get rid of it, it's
going to be yeah, thank youfor the phone call. Then you're gonna
have complete renegades and going on.I mean, there's just it's it's an
out of control system right now.The problem is it's all being held together

(01:45:54):
because of these ginormous television deals. They're that the instabla is gathering, especially
on the basketball side. I meanthe March Madness tournament is that's multi billion
dollar deal. As for the pointshaving thing, it's even a non starter
because the whole thing that when ifyou do ever get into something like that,
the one thing you want to dois raise as few flags as possible,

(01:46:16):
And a two hundred and fifty thousanddollars bet is going to raise a
ton of flags because that's the typeof action that Sharp's put down. And
when Sharp's put down, the booksnotice, and they also will look at
it and say, all right, well what do they know? Why are
they going this direction? And sometimesthey'll flag it. I mean the Alabama
baseball coach thing, I mean, the guy was dumb to even mention it

(01:46:39):
to the people at the window whenhe made the bet at whatever ballpark casino
he did there in Cincinnati, andit was immediately found out because that's the
thing. These these casinos, thesebooks are so highly regulated now that you
have I mean even in some casesjust computer software in place to flag it

(01:47:00):
and say hey, this is irregular, like something's happening here, and then
they in a lot of cases,we'll say, yeah, we're not taking
that bet. That seems fishy tous. We're not doing it. Seven
one three two one two five sevenninety seven one three two one two five
seven nine zero. Let's have alittle non flow of stories. Where's you're
from, Ohio? I'm gonna gowith an audio from a game show this

(01:47:26):
weekend. Okay, have you seenthis one? I have, and I'm
excited to see it and hear itagain. Perfect seven one three two one
two five seven ninety seven one threetwo one two five seven nine eighty is
the Matt Tommy Show. Two twentyseven is our time, And this is
a moment for me to tell youabout Memorial Herman. They have. They

(01:47:47):
have a Medicare plan that they wantme to tell you about that's gonna give
you plenty of options. It's gonnagive those of you that are turned sixty
five, or perhaps those of youthat have members of your family that are
turning sixty five, giving them optionsthey have never had before. That's all
with the Memorial Herman Medicare plan. This is where you go to MH medicare
dot com. That's mhmedicare dot com, and you're gonna be able to go

(01:48:12):
and find out what they can dofor you in terms of plenty of options
when it comes to doctors, whenit comes to support staff, when it
comes to benefits. Because it's avery difficult decision for those of you that
are trying to search through medicare forthe first time to make sure that you're
getting the best possible coverage you can. And that's why you go to MH
medicare dot com for the Memorial HermanHealth Plan. That's mhmedicare dot com.

(01:48:38):
And I promise you you visit withthose folks over there Momoral Herman, and
they're gonna put you in the absolutebest possible spot to give you the trusted
doctors, the extras and the bigsavings you need. That's mhmdicare dot com.
All right, once a week onthe mat, Tomas, shall we
take an opportunity to check it lookat some news headlines that are interesting in

(01:49:00):
the world to us, as longas they don't happen in the state of
Florida. Now I'm gonna go first, boys, because we've got a little
bit of an audio one here. And the reality is is that you guys
know, I want to be agame show host in the worst way.
It's probably not gonna happen. I'vebeen able to have a successful career as
a broadcaster and not even regretting amoment of it. But if I got

(01:49:23):
a chance to host a game show, I'd still want to do so.
And Pat stay Jack is wrapping uphis run as the legendary host of Wheel
of Fortune, to be replaced byRyan Seacrest, who apparently had nothing else
to do in his life except takeevery job that was ever offered to him.
That's a different issue for a differenttime. Daniel, Well, he's
the modern day Dick Clark. Let'scall him who he is. No,

(01:49:43):
Dick Clark is rolling over in hisgrave when you're describing him as Ryan Seacrest.
So I mean he was already ashoe in to be the New Year's
Rock and Eve host, And lookat it. There he is, all
right. So occasionally you will findsome interesting ant on the puzzles of Will
of Fortune, and uh, ithappened again. I don't know if not

(01:50:05):
having video is going to give itperfect texture and context of this. But
you can certainly find your favorite xaccount and find this video out there.
But here's the audio of a answergone bad on the Will of Fortune.
Category is phrase and off we goto Mars. Right in the butt.

(01:50:35):
No blake, that says the math. Yeah, that's that's it, I
think. Yeah, I've got ault blake texts one thousand dollars. How
doing to Mars? You've already madean impression on us. I apologize,

(01:50:55):
but I was a little excited. Now we'll figure out a way to hand
molent tastefully. I have no ideawhat that'll be. Huh, we're losing
the great ones. This is thebest, was the answer. The first
guess was right in the butt.Hmm. I'll let you y' all just

(01:51:20):
sit back and just think about thatfor a few seconds, and then we'll
have a couple of seconds of pregnantpause and move on to our next floor
story. Here comes a pregnant pauseright in the butt, and now,
Connor mcgovernor, is your turn foryour non Florida story. We'll go to
Cleveland, Ohio, where Anthony Santiago, a thirty five year old man was

(01:51:44):
sentenced to ten years for burglary inthe first degree. Santiago is a repeat
defender, holding three prior felony convictionsof assault. A New York judge handed
Santiago the ten year sentence, butbefore he was shipped off to prison,
the same judge married Santiago and hisfiance, Victoria. So the judge sentenced
Santiago and then performed a wedding ceremonyin the courtroom before Santiago is to spend

(01:52:11):
ten years in prison for what lovehas no bounds? Matt, Wait a
minute, So she knew he wasgoing to prison and she still married the
dude. Yep, it's quite theaphrodisiac for some women having sex in a

(01:52:32):
prison. Well, I mean,I don't know about that. And the
visits policy had said facility. Wellit's called conjugal visits. Well there is
that, But I mean there areactual dating sites where you can date a
convict that I do believe because we'rewe have a warped world. But let
me ask you this, and ifyou don't have an answer, don't even
guess. But where if you wereto go visit somebody in prison and you

(01:52:57):
were in that person was a lotof conjugal visit. Where do you conduct
such an event? Well, ifyou watched Arrested Development, they had trailers.
Really, I believe that's how itworks in real life as well.
Humm. I wonder if Tavares fromWill of Fortune's ever been with a Nah

(01:53:24):
Forget, it'd be a terrible segue. Terrible segue, Dan, what is
your non Florida story? I alsogo to the state of Florida of the
Midwest. In Ohio, postal workerdrives one hundred plus miles an hour allegedly
racing a Ford Mustang. This isin Fremont, Ohio, where a postal

(01:53:46):
worker was pulled over for doing onehundred and five as the sheriff's deputy approached
the car with their body camera on. Mind you, because we had a
story earlier in the week where thebody camera was not on and it might
not go well for the police department. But in this case, asking is
there a reason you were going overone hundred, the driver, twenty eight
year old Drew Brown, said,I wasn't aware I was going that fast,

(01:54:11):
and asking why were you going thatfast? Well, the Mustang kind
of caught my attention and then theydecided to try to race the Mustang before
being pulled over. As of rightnow, Brown still an employee of the
USPS, as the Postal Service releaseda statement saying Brown is still an employee

(01:54:31):
under investigation. As a matter ofpolicy, we are unable to comment further
on a specific individual personal matter.Brown had four prior moving violations, including
three for speeding in one for notusing a seat belt HM in a post
office truck in a post office truck, which that was the most surprising right

(01:54:56):
there, Now, Like how fastcan those bad boys go? That's what
I was one as well. Imean I had to believe there had to
be some sort of governor on it, right, Like you would think that
maybe you could get up to eightyfive maybe, but I mean with all
that loose cargo in there, that'sstill kind of dangerous right there. If
you've got to slam on your brakesand you know, you get an Amazon
package to smoke you in the backof the head there. I mean,

(01:55:18):
wow, Okay, that was tome. I mean, I understand what
the credo is of the United StatesPostal Service to you know, move swiftly,
but I don't think this is whatthey intended boys. I want to
go back to Will of Fortune fora second, not to varus on Will
of Fortune, but just in general, would you have to say that the
easiest game show currently going today isprobably Will of Fortune? I mean will

(01:55:42):
Price Is Right is kind of athing where you have to go up there
and pick a couple of prices, but you not on the show for more
than about three or four minutes ata time. Would you say that,
I mean, compared to Jeopardy, compared to the other shows that are on,
it's the easiest one, right.Jeopardy is by far the hardest.
I would actually say that Price isRight is because I mean, if you've
got the person up there wagering adollar more than the other or bidding a

(01:56:06):
dollar for said product, I mean, that doesn't take much. I gotta
go. I gotta go. Familyfeuds the easiest family cook. So here's
the thing about Wheel of Fortune.I think I've always been a good Wheel
of Fortune player, ret least whenI watch it on TV. But there
have been so many people in thelast five or six years that have made
goof ups on their answers, likeour man Tavares just did. I don't

(01:56:29):
want to go viral with that Farresis never gonna give, is never gonna
live down what he said? Well, I mean you had the Bruce Smith
answer on as Connor said family feuda few years ago where it involved a
hand and the answer he gave wasanother anatomy part the funniest family feud answer

(01:56:57):
for me of all time. Thisis back when rich Dawson was hosting it.
Oh so the groping period, well, the caressing, I don't want
to say grope caressing. Richard waspretty handsy. He was handsy. The
question was at what month does awoman start to show that she's pregnant?

(01:57:17):
And the answer normally would be fifthor six month? Correct? I think
so? Yeah? The woman saidJanuary or September? Excuse me, September.
It took Richard Dawson at least fiveminutes to compose himself. Well,

(01:57:38):
I mean you got twelve choices there, so she's got a one in twelve
shot what I mean nine months ofpregnancy correct? So only three months where
you could be wrong? Dan,What are you talking about in terms of
like guessing like what month you couldbe pregnant? No, it's what my

(01:58:00):
do you start to know what you'regnant. I know what you're saying. The
answer would be the fourth or fifthor sixth month, right, You're you're
looking for the numerical answer. Correct, You're not looking for the month that.
Yeah, you're not. She tookit too literally, not literally.
She misanswered the question. You're notgetting this, are you? No,
I'm fully getting it. I'm justsaying that she answered it with an actual

(01:58:24):
month as opposed to what number month. But everybody's babies are developed in different
months. It doesn't you would neverpick September exactly. I think you at
home, I understand what I'm talkingabout in this, but I understand here

(01:58:45):
in our uptown gallery of studios ifI don't know if I completely believe you,
but you know what great non flowerstories this week? Tavars shout out
to you, my man, You'regoing to be a part of the the
Will of Fortune Hall of Fame. When it comes to sound bites, you
see him at the court, youknow you see him either at the corner
store, you go to the grocerystore. Hey, wait a minute,

(01:59:06):
don't I know you? I getinto a rabbit hole with funny answers on
game shows like on the newly whatgame Back in the early seventies, the
woman was asked where the strangest placeshe's ever had sex or wanted to have
sex? Yep, can't play thateither. It was in line with what
Tavaras said. Pretty close. Actuallynot pretty close. It was spot on,

(01:59:32):
spot on. People are funny, all right. That's our known Flora
stories, believe it or not?Today is up next? That's a helly
Aaron, and our category is isit? Morgan Spurlock is what I think
it is? Right? Yeah, wrote the questions for it. Morgan Splot,
the documentarian who unfortunately passed away atthe age of fifty three. How

(01:59:53):
old do you know him? We'llhave the opportunity to win some prizes on
that next if you want to play. Seven one three two one two five
seven ninety seven one three two onetwo five seven ninety Matt Thomas returns on
Sports Talk seven ninety Peose Abraha isgoing to be playing for Sugarland tonight and

(02:00:15):
uh, the organization has decided notto make him available with the media.
Interesting, I don't think that's agreat look. Why send him there then?
I mean, like he's not goingthere to take care of media requests.

(02:00:38):
I'm not saying that that's fine,but I mean, if you're saying,
oh, we don't want to wedon't want it to be a distraction
for him, Okay, well, then clearly he's not ready to come back
yet, because that's part of thejob. Man. I just I don't
know if that's a not that youhave to answer everything in the world what
the media wants. But you area high profile player that has missed several

(02:01:03):
weeks of time because you had togo reinvent yourself in Florida. You could
make this a nice three four minutemedia availability with the translator. How did
what did you do when you workeddown there? How did you feel?
You're happy to be back, You'reready to get going, ready to joint?
I mean it was gonna be afluff. Yeah, I think you.

(02:01:25):
I think you create more cynicism bynot doing it than doing it.
After all, Bingo, you're gonnahave to answer the questions regardless. I
mean, you're gonna be in theclubhouse. Someone's going to approach you asking
for a comment. I mean, you can't blow off the media. For
the last one hundred and twenty orhowever many games we've got left this season,

(02:01:47):
like, eventually the questions will needto be answered, And I'm with
you, go ahead, rip theband aid, get it done today,
and you're done with it. Well, they're probably thinking, if they're gonna
he's gonna do it one if hedid it here, and then he would
do it when he joined the majorleague team, So they're probably thinking,
let's just do this once. ButI don't know when when you exclude something

(02:02:09):
from someone or group, that typicallymeans you're trying to hide something exactly.
And again, we're the media inHouston were soft. I mean, we're
not gonna anybody going to the gametonight that would try to talk to him
would not be antagonistic. Well, there's no reason to be because he hasn't
warranted that type of questioning. Imean, he hasn't done anything wrong other

(02:02:32):
than just not produced at the plate. That's pretty much been the only thing
that he hasn't done this season. And yeah, I just I think you
keep it nice and brave. Threefour minutes, you have the interpreter,
you answer the questions, and ifyou have to answer him a second time,
oh well, this is what Idon't I don't know whose decision was

(02:02:53):
it was a Braves decision or somebodyelse in the organization, But that I
don't think that's a great look atall. I mean, in avoidance usually
means you're trying to hide something exactly, and I mean there's I'm sure your
mom had the same saying for youdon't borrow trouble. This is borrowing trouble,
Like this is all right? Whyisn't he talking today? I don't

(02:03:14):
really understand, like what the issueis? Yeah, all right, five
minutes left to go in the show. What should we do that? We
should play America's fastest growing sports radiogame show. We simply call it Monday
through Thursday, be believe it ornot. But on Fridays we call it
