From the Jethrows Barbecue Studio with amazingslow smoked wings and world famous baby back
rids. This is Des Moines SportsStation one O six point three k x
and L campers Keith Murphy. WhatI do have a very particular set of
skills. Skills I've acquired her fora very long career. Andy Fails.

(00:25):
I'm telling you straight. It's myway or the highway. I'm not talking
about dance lessons. We're talking aboutunchecked aggression here. I'm talking about putting
a brick through the other guy's windshield. I'm talking about drawing a line in
the sand. Dude, I'm talkingabout picking it out and chopping it out.
Talking more than sports? Is this? So? What day is this?

(00:45):
On fourteen sixty? You gotta keeplightning and you got a crap KX
and OL. All right, welcometo the Murphy Andy Show. I'm on
one o six point three KXNL.Yeah, my voice come back to me
right now. A good old TVmixed minus we got right now. I
wonder what's going on here? Yeah, streaming live at cakesnow dot com.

(01:10):
Oh, I can't talk like that, Lucas, can you do something on
your end about that? We arehearing ourselves twice. Anything you can do
to help would be appreciated. Itcomes back to me a second. The
listeners can't tell what's going on,but we are hearing our own voices back
in our ears about half a secondafter we say it. It's like a

(01:34):
big echo, echo, echo.Alongside Andy Fails and Lucastrain with sports and
more. I'm Keith Murphy and weare live at Whiskey River District at Prairie
Trail and it's a beautiful day here. We're on the We're on the Whiskey
River patio, rooftop patio overlooking alake here in Prairie Trail. Yeah,

(01:57):
we have. We've spent a lotof time up here in the past year.
We had RVTV here of course whothirteen. That was back in September
when it was blazing hot, andthen we've been at a couple of other
establishments I think between then and now, and we're back and it's a good
day to do it. And we'vehad so much rain and so many cloudy

(02:20):
days. This just feels amazing todayand what perfect timing. It's Friday.
I thought we'd be inside and Iwas so happy when Sewn Roberts from the
Drive said, I've got y'all setup here on the patio rooftop. It's
just a perfect day to be ona patio rooftop. So appreciative of that.
Thank you to Whiskey River for havingus out here. Two patios here

(02:46):
in what's the street address, thirteenfifty Southwest Vintage Parkway. But it's a
district at Prairie Trail. Without furtherado, let's check on the health of
one Lucas Strain. He had thecheeseball challenge on Thursday. Lucas, you
came to work today. Yes,I am here, I'm living. I'm

(03:06):
alive. I actually feel I feeljust fine. My body. I don't
feel sick in any way. Neverthrew up. That's great, nothing like
that. Never threw up. Now. You tapped out a little early yesterday,
right during Sean and Heathers show, and went home and got some couch
time. Yes, I left atthe start of the four o'clock hour,
so I worked an hour of theDrive and then just said, no,

(03:29):
screw it, I'm going home andI'm laying down on the couch. I
needed that. I needed that realbad. So how long before you started
feeling better. I'd say once wehit about six thirty six thirty, I
was like, Okay, I canget up and start moving again. I
no longer felt like so one ginormouscheeseball. Yeah, if you just joining

(03:52):
us and missed it somehow. AlthoughI noticed today my Facebook live stream that
was posted has now been watched morethan forty thousand times more views. So
a lot of people saw Lucas. It was silly, but it's been a
heavy few weeks here and it wasjust nice to have something light and silly

(04:14):
and kind of pointless but fun,and a lot of people seem to tap
into that. So we were appreciativethat Lucas was willing to try to eat
more than two pounds of cheeseballs intwo hours. He didn't make it.
He got to he ate eight hundredcheese balls, so we did. We
did the algebra on that he ateeight hundred cheeseballs, which are full of

(04:36):
chemicals and salt. You needed algebra, yeah, to do that. Yeah,
I had with the with how many, how much the cheeseballs weighed,
how many there were, the servingsize, how many were left? We
determined he ate It sounds just likesome multiplication and division. But yeah,

(04:57):
algebra makes it sound better. I'mtrying to make myself so smart. I
was gonna say, if you weredoing algebra, Yeah, I was tap
terrible at algebra. The point ishe he ate more than the guy in
New York did. Yeah, hedid. He ate more waves and he
drank less water, in part becausehe thought he thought four ounces was a

(05:19):
cup. What no, no,no, I thought I told you eight
ounces was a cup. I thoughtsixteen ounces was a cup because I know
sixteen ounces is a pound. SoI got the too confused, So I
poured myself half half of the water. So he had four ounces of water,
not eight. Yeah, so everyoneupset. Eventeen ounces of water half

(05:42):
a core. I only had four. Well, if he drank more water,
yes, he probably could have gottento the finish line. He also
probably would have pewed. I thinkhe would have thrown up, because yeah,
you'd have filled your stomach that firstof all, the cheese balls would
expand with the water a little more, and I think he would he had
end up Huchan, But he didreally really well. I will and we

(06:05):
had Chris Ma. Harry came andtook pictures of it. We posted those
all over the place. Everybody sawthose. The one picture of Lucas post
contest after he had and he's leaning. He's he's physically leaning on the bucket
of cheeseballs to support his weight. That's become a meme. That photo.

(06:31):
That photo will go down as oneof the greatest pictures in the history of
the murfin An show. It is. It captures the moment perfectly because he's
trying and by that time he's losthis jersey, his hat and his shoes.
He's sweating, he's got flop sweatings. You could tell that that's a

(06:51):
man who has surrendered all concern forhis appearance. He's just trying to get
through this. Girlfriend Katie's just theresupporting him. But he's he's just,
he's kind of he's he's a onemanned island, just he and that mostly
empty bucket of cheeseballs. What hurts, Lucas? You said, you're not

(07:13):
throwing up and your stomach doesn't hurt. That's really good news. I'm sure
you're backed up. You've got likean orange plug. What what heavy fire?
That hurts? Let's let's go thereright now. How are how are
things making their way through? Aboutfifteen minutes ago? Well, fifty,
I guess, no, twenty. We got a little bit to go out.

(07:35):
You don't have to be specific.Bright orange, Oh my god,
it's bright orange. Bright both ends. The one a giant cheeto on the
one end. It's solid. It'snot giant. Oh it's not so okay,
So now you had this is toomuch. You had a bunch of

(07:56):
smoothies and stuff too. This istoo much. I brought my blood work
is just a sharing violation. Hebrought his blender to work. Eat solid
food right now. I can't chewanything, Mike. Oh, you tell
him about your mouth, Yeah, tell him about that. My gums feel
like I've lost a layer of mygums. It's basically an open wound,
like someone took a cheese grater tomy mouth. That makes sense to me.

(08:20):
Is as somebody pointed out on thelive stream the first few bites of
original Captain Crunch, it's great.By the end of a couple of bulls
of cereal, it's like you've beenstabbing your roof of your mouth with a
knife. I mean it, justit. And that's with milk. Yeah,
that's with milk that's softened up,so he eats eight hundred cheeseballs.

(08:45):
Mouth is it's pretty torn up.I think it's great you came to work
today. Way to do your job. Yeah, now I get to talk
with my mouth that's essentially bleeding. It's not actually bleeding, but it feels
like it. Get some of thatchlorosseptic that to use for sore throats your
mouth. Lucas, how do youfeel about working hard, doing a good

(09:07):
job, being at this for manymonths and without a doubt. I don't
even think it's debatable. This iswhat you are most known for now.
This is definitely what I'm most knownfor in the station. Been here since
what September? And now I'm justthe cheeseball guy. I'm the food eating
guy. Yeah, your cheeseball guy. I know. And we have all

(09:31):
kinds of suggestions for more challenges couldhappen. We're coming up on the slower
time of year, but let's nottalk about that now. Let's let Lucas
just kind of enjoyed this moment. He's recovering, he's he's having fiber smoothies.
That's probably a good idea. We'llget to the one at one here.

(09:52):
We're live at Whiskey River. We'rethe home of rooftop Bengo on Thursdays
at seven pm one with Murph andAndy on one oh six point three k
ex O powered by Kuberski Brothers Lawncheer. We bring lawns to life. Visit
Kouberski Brothers dot com. Andy,I feel like I'm teeing up a one

(10:13):
at one here for you to go. Really, but Caitlin Clark and the
Indiana Fever play a preseason game tonightagainst the Dallas Wings and former Cycle and
Stephanie Suarez. Yeah, we havenot ever We've never ever said anything like
that before. I've never even sayanything about a regular season We never said
anything about a championship WNBA game.I think that's true. But you're not.

(10:39):
You're not artificially propping anything up here. Uh. Many people, myself
included, are interested in this. The most frequent question I've gotten the last
twenty four hours is how's Lucas doing? Second is how can I watch the
Indiana Fever Friday night? Because youuse that's a good question. I want

(11:00):
you to re up me on thatas well. You need the WNBA League
Pass which is thirty five dollars forthe whole season. Although I have heard
I've read before, but I couldn'tfind it quickly this morning, and I
was doing a bunch of different thingstoday, but I saw that there was
some offer that you could watch theWNBA League pass. You could see the

(11:22):
preseason games, and then they're goingto try to suck you into to buying
the whole thing. It's thirty fivedollars for forty games or whatever it is.
So it's true as passes go,it's not bad, but that is
what you need. And I couldsee from the emails coming into the station
many of the people asking are alittle bit on the olderly side and they're

(11:43):
trying to figure out. Then it'dbe a follow up question of well,
what does a league pass? Howdo I get that into my TV?
Right? Right? So that isthat's going on tonight, But the exhibition
happens. Also, the Indiana Feverplane arrives in Dallas for this exhibition and
there are cameras everywhere, something thatabsolutely has never happened when the Indiana Fever

(12:07):
showed up for a preseason game.So Eleiah Boston and Caitlin Clark is there,
and and for reasons we understand, and probably even reasons we don't understand,
Caitlyn has security right at her hipwalking around. I would imagine her
level of fame has attracted some unwantedattention. But anyway, Leah Boston is,

(12:30):
you know, a number one pickand a great player. She's walking
no security with her. Caitlyn hassecurity with her. As they're walking through
the airport terminal, there's cameras everywhere. People are, you know, getting
their phones out real quick, tryingto get trying to get a photo.
And this immediately has brought to lighta discussion that's come up before about why

(12:50):
why don't the w NBA teams flycharter flights? And I think they will
shortly because they're about to get abig influx in ratings and and money and
ticket sales. But the answer tothat question so far is they they haven't
had ratings or much revenue or ticketsales, and they they've they've largely lost

(13:15):
money in their couple of decades, and they've been propped up by the NBA.
So this is why it is suchan opportunity right now to get up
and get to the level where youcan afford to send teams on private jets.
Okay, And that's a real simpleexplanation. Yes, And I feel
like that's easy to understand, butit is not being understood by everybody.

(13:37):
And I'm not sure what else canbe done because people they're either not listening
or they don't want to hear. They don't like that answer. But this
keeps coming up and the situation hasnot changed. I don't understand why this
is so difficult to grasp. It'sthe involved but and I also think it's

(14:01):
because you've brought in a whole hordeof new people who, if not they're
not versed in how things work. They only see that they've seen men men's
leagues get this, and they seethis women this women's league, women's league

(14:22):
not get those things, and sothey think it is and I think they
equate it with like USA basketball orsomething where there is equity, you know,
where that's built in. But thisis a this is a profession.
It's a profession. These are professionalleagues. Their amenities are based on their
revenue. This is something that weunderstand in every other walk of life.

(14:46):
I mean, if you don't makea lot of money, you don't have
a lot of stuff, right,if you make more money, then you
can get more stuff. Capitalism,Yes, supply and demand, the most
basic principle of economics, supply anddemand. There has not been demand,

(15:11):
so there's not the same supply, right. But you know, you know,
everybody listening knows, like what ahot button identity politics are in this
country. I get that, Butfor anybody that is on the other side
and just all upset that. Youknow, the WNBA players have to walk
through baggage check and grab their bagslike a normal passenger, where the NBA

(15:37):
players have a charter jet. Theydon't touch their bags. You don't ever
see them. They don't understand whythose aren't the same thing. I feel
like you take thirty seconds to explainit, like you just did or I
just did. I feel like thosepeople are smart enough to understand at that
point, but either they didn't listento you, or they just don't want

(16:00):
to accept that answer. They don'twant to understand there. And there are
some people and because there's not anotherway to explain this though, there isn't
another way to explain it. No, there's not another way. But there
are some people that don't care aboutthat explanation, they still feel like the
women's version of the NBA should treatthe players exactly or near the same as

(16:22):
the men's players in the NBA.And they don't want to hear that,
okay, but they when you do, when they do hear it, when
you do tell them that the WNBApays for its own stuff. There's not
some giant money pot in the skythat's divvying it up to everybody. No,
it's it's the WNBA. The WNBAwants to treat its players as well

(16:48):
as possible. They're not withholding abunch of money. They don't have a
bunch of money. They can't payfor this stuff. At this point,
they're trying to keep the league alive, have been up to this point.
All of this came up with theWorld Cup because but that's different. It's
somewhat different because the United States women'steam is really successful and was is offen

(17:11):
the best team in the world. But when it comes to the revenue,
it's very similar to this. Themen's World Cup makes like a hundred times
what the women's World Cup does. And they're talking about like the national teams
too, right, and the nationalteams are paid for, I believe,
but the distribution of World Cup fundscomes from the overall World Cup money and

(17:34):
the United the men's United States teamsgot far more money from World Cup media
rights distribution than the women's did.But it's the same argument. It's the
same argument. It's a it's aslightly different version of the same argument.
And in that case, the womendid I think have more sympathy empathy from

(17:56):
the public because they're so much betterthan the men. So a lot of
people are like, well, thewomen's team is actually good and the men's
team's not that good. Why inthe world would the men be making more
money? Well, the men arepart of a system that makes about one
hundred times what the women's World Cupdoes. People are saying it should all
be shared in one big thing, and you get I can, I can
understand that a little bit more. But you know, the WNBA has been

(18:18):
like supported by outside entities like thelike the NBA, they just have not
got the TV ratings. Watch agame from last season, or just ask
yourself, when's the last time youthought about the WNBA. Let's get a
quickie poll. If Lucas can puthis fiber shake down for just a moment.
It's presented by WCI Pools and Spas. Will you try to watch a

(18:41):
WNBA preseason game this weekend? Yes? Or no? I think I Yeah,
I think I will. I wouldlike to see what this looks like.
I don't even know what I'm doingtonight, but yeah, I will.
I will try to see it.What about you, Lucas, Uh
No, I don't think I will, just be because of the process that
it's going to take, and there'sjust NBA playoff games that I'd rather watch

(19:04):
tonight, and I'm still recovering froma cheese ballcoma. Yeah, that's a
good point too. The Fever announcedFriday it's lone home preseason game will move
up a day to Thursday, that'snext week at seven pm to accommodate the
Pacers playoff schedule change will give theFever six days between their exhibition opener in
Dallas tonight and then the Dream game. Meantime, Lucas mentioned the NBA playoffs,

(19:30):
the Knicks advanced to the Eastern Conferencesemifinal with a win at Philly a
time a shot swing huge three nextlead uh audio courtesy of tnt I and
the Eagle had a just a greatgame calling this game. He was just

(19:53):
terrific. He's underrated. Knicks wonit four games to two, and they
outscored the Phillies by one point oversix games. So final score for the
series Nick six fifty seventy six,Ers six forty nine. So it's a
really good series. I was hopingPhilly would advance. Just would love to
see Nick Nurse keep going. Sucha good dude. But having the Knicks

(20:18):
advanced, that is good, good, good for the NBA. Nicks will
play the Pacers because the Pacers crushedthe Bucks. Halliburton finds the laces and
he pellies it. Halliburton, withthree to shoot, doing his dance,
steps back around Middleton. The leadermissed it. Halliburton cleans up his own
mess. Tyrese Halliburton and the Pacers. The former Cyclone is the face of

(20:45):
the Pacers franchise, and since winningthe title, the Bucks had not passed
the second round. So three seasonsin a row. That's kind of hard.
You know, you you win achampionship and you've got a great roster
and your stars are you know, young, and you just feel like,
oh man, there's more to come. You just you just never know.
You just can't. It's hard towin more than one title. It just

(21:06):
is, it really is. Withone particular roster. Patrick Beverley of the
Bucks took sore loser to another levellast night. He chucked a basketball at
a fan that will cost him probablya suspension and money. And then in
the Bucks locker room, he decidedhe was not going to talk to an
ESPN producer who was doing her job. And here's how that exchange went.

(21:30):
You subscribe to my pot do Ido? So you can't interview me in
no disrespect? You subscribe? Okay? Cool? You have to subscribe to
his podcast to be able to askhim a question. Jeez, come on,
man, Calvs and MAVs will tryto close out tonight. Also,

(21:52):
Sports Media Watch points out the Pacerswould host Game six against the Knicks May
sixteenth. That hasn't been officially notyet, but that's normally where that game
would fall. The Fever home openeris that night, so somebody's moving that
game considerations that I haven't had tomake before. All right, get ready,

(22:15):
it's time. Don't get ready.I don't have them in front of
me. Okay, don't get readyfor that keyword. Yeah, we'll we'll
run it down. You're dealing witha lot right now, Lucas. We'll
pass the keyword on at a latertime. We are. We're live on
the patio. A beautiful day.I mean take the had a light shirt,
light long sleeve shirt on it maytake that off. It's so nice

(22:37):
up here on the Whiskey River patiooverlooking the lake. They have karaoke here
Wednesdays. And you know, Jennycan't sing, but she's got a lot
of spirit and she'll she'll go inthere and try. She'll try. Holder
does she need to warm up withsome liquid confidence? She needs liquid confidence.
And she doesn't think she's not allthese people that mistakenly think she's a

(23:00):
good singer, but she usually winsthe crowd over just with energy. Okay,
So I hope she's bringing something. It's energy that that's it. She
was a hit in Japan, evenwith the language barrier that you might know
they have karaoke there in Japan. All right, coming up, sounds like
it, Andy, do you knowwho the richest person in Iowa is?
I? Do you do? Ido I have known? All right,

(23:22):
we'll answer that question. Courtesy ofForbes Plus talk about the swarm good time
for Murph and Andy's play today poweredby TNT Landscaping and Nursery's gonna driven TNT

(23:45):
Landscaping and Nursery and Anchony your homefor landscaping, design, tree shrubs and
all Guy's Barbecue. Back on TheMurph and Andy Show. We are live
on the Whiskey River in Anchity DistrictTrail. We're on the rooftop on a
beautiful day. We're actually in theshaded part of the upper patio. There's

(24:06):
two patios here, one lower whichis pretty full right now for lunch,
and we're upstairs where a few peoplehave come to sit down and thought,
man, those guys are talking reallyloud. I think we'll go downstairs.
But overlooking the lake, it's it'sbeautiful here. They have rooftop bingo up
where we're sitting Thursdays at seven andkaraoke Jenny, if you're listening karaoke Wednesdays

(24:27):
eight thirty pm. They do haveRob Bass in the selection. Man,
you break out Rob Base in acrowd full of Generation xers and it's later
at night and people have been drinking. Yeah, hold on to something heavy

(24:47):
because that place is gonna swing.Oh yeah, yeah, she broke it
out at Mount Fuji, So that'sthat's what she saw on the mountain,
well, not on the mountain dance. Forbes has the richest person in all
fifty states. Andy, who's thewealthiest person in Iowa? Harry Stein.
It is Harry's adel and probably somenon income tax state agriculture is his Steyne

(25:15):
seeds, Yes, dying seeds. He's eighty two years old and he's worth
nine point seven billion. Oh man, nine point seven billion. I can
remember, not all that long agowhere Iowa had one billionaire. It was
Denny, Denny Allbaugh, He's trailcomplex, he of the Kentucky Derby.

(25:38):
It was Denny and it was likejust over one billion. So money makes
money, Money makes money. Yes, there you go, put it on
a T shirt. Murph and Andyshow one O six point three. We're
live from Whiskey River here in Ancony. There's also a Whiskey River in Ames,
a part of the Whiskey River family. And Sweet Carolines kitchen and cocktails

(26:00):
also an Ames part of the family. Here, Andy, would you not
go to a place just because itreminds you of a song you hate no
no. I Now if they playedthe song all the time, like you
know, if it played in aloop, I'm not sure we'll get some
intel on that. Do they playsweet Caroline like on a line and then
I'm not going and they just callit sweet Caroline? That's all right?

(26:23):
No? Uh Noah, Trevor Noah. He has said that that is the
the number one thing that only whitepeople love Carolina, the number one thing.
Yeah, the number one thing youwant to you want to get a
crowd of white people to go crazy, you just start playing Sweet Carolina.

(26:44):
I'm not sure I could come upwith a better one than that. And
then he starts singing it in hisconcert and everybody starts singing that Trump.
Did they go bom bom bomb? He's like, I did. I did
not even ask you to do.Women over the age of forty, Oh
that's their song. God, mymom loveve that song. So most people
have seen or read or at leastheard of the Swarm article that appeared.

(27:11):
Pat Hardy wrote it for is thatthe Hawkeye fanatic Yawky nation one of the
Hawkeye things. Yeah, which it'sfanatic? Which one is that? Uh?
I wrote that down somewhere and thendon't see which I'm sorry, I
get the it's Pat Hardy, Yeah, longtime writer there. And he interviewed
Brad Heinrich, who's the head ofthe Swarm, and Brad sounds not sounds,

(27:38):
says he's really discouraged. Two yearsin, only four hundred football season
ticket holders have a membership or theyou know, the paying dues paid members
of the Swarm. Yeah, andhe thought they would be at ten thousand
contributors at this point and they're underthree thousand. So he's pretty down.

(28:00):
And this is a guy who hasa tough job and I would never want
to do this job. Yeah.First of all, he's just doing it
as like a philanthropic Yes, Imean he's he's an actuary in Florida.
He's got another life. This isjust something that he does because he's a
fan. He's a golfer at Iowa, and he wants to help his school.

(28:23):
And he is he sounds discouraged becausehe points out in his conversation with
Pat Hardy. One of the thingshe points out is Iowa's falling behind some
other programs. He says that thequarterback room at Ohio State is equal to
all the money paid for the entireIowa football team. Don't know if he's

(28:45):
talking about the group of quarterbacks orthe actual physical room that the quarterbacks could
be. Yeah, it is hawkfanatic by the way. That that Pat
hardy. So that's where it appears. If you want to read this comparing
yourself to Ohio State in this era, you're going to feel inferior or any

(29:06):
fundraising, yeah, or any error. Michigan is going to have a bunch
of fundraising too, I think, and I am coming at this from a
point of understanding how frustrating this couldbe to be in Brad Heinrich's position,
But I think you have to bereally careful in getting upset with the fans.
Yes, because even if I werea super fan, I don't see

(29:30):
myself being part of this. Itis just absolutely ludicrous that we're asking and
I'm not saying Brad Heinrich, BradHeinrich has to ask, Brent Bloom has
to ask. I get why it'sbeing done, but it's ridiculous that in
this multi billion dollar business you're askingeven more from the fans. And I

(29:55):
know he says, you know,he says in the article that hey,
if you're a season ticket holder, and you know your set of four tickets
is whatever it is, around fortyseven hundred dollars, we're just asking for
one hundred more dollars. Well,I get that, and he does make
a distinction several times. I knowsome people can't afford this, So I'm
not talking to those people. I'mtalking to the people who can afford it.

(30:17):
But I think there are many peoplewho can't afford it that on principle,
do not want to participate in this. They're buying season tickets, they
probably had to donate a certain amountof money to the athletic department to get
those tickets. They're paying for parking, they're paying for overpriced concession and superpaying
extream games. Yeah, they don'tare making to do. They're donating toward

(30:37):
buildings and facilities and coaching salaries andall those other things. And this is
one more thing that they're being askedto just independently foot the bill of there's
nobody else attributing to this kind ofstuff. There's no TV network, the
school isn't and I think it isout of principle, goes against you know,

(31:00):
especially in a state like Iowa.Where we feel like we are responsible
with our money. We don't liveabove our means. We don't like asking
people for stuff. It just goesagainst our character. Yes, I think
it is, and I think hesounds whiny in this article he does.

(31:22):
I think it. I think Patcaught him at a time where just Aby
was in a bad mood or somethinglike this frustrating, discouraging level of this
because it's so far beneath the expectation, and I I'm kind of surprised by
it too. I thought Iowa wouldwith with Iowa's fan base and the money
at with Iowa Athletics. Not sayingit's Ohio state, but I thought Iowa

(31:45):
would run away from Iowa state inthis era, and that really hasn't happened.
And I respect the Hawkeye fan basemore for not doing what I thought
I do too, And I honestly, I think that there are a number
of people, and I think Iwould consider myself one of these people who
feel like, look, this isgoing to change real soon here. These

(32:08):
collectives are going to come in house, and this money, as it should
is going to come from the university, has come more directly from these TV
from the profits that are at play, and the fans aren't going to have
to keep this thing going, Sowhy in the world, what's the urgency
to do anything right now? Andthe other thing is all of these teams

(32:30):
point to other teams as example, all of these collectives point to other collectives
or other schools and say they've gotmore than we do. They're all ringing
that bell, they're all crying wolfthere. I think in a number of
situations because we can't see, wedon't we We've got rumors, right,

(32:52):
rumors of what this school paid tothis athlete. Does anybody ever actually see
the financial statements here? No?And I think this is similar to the
checks the W two's. People canrelate to this their workplace. There's always
a rumor that comes through like,oh, hey, I heard Andy fails

(33:12):
making you know, two hundred thousanddollars And yeah, you don't know that.
You know that, that's a negotiatingtactic all the time people use that,
You know how people saggerate that,So yeah, they do that all
the time. So I think there'ssome suspicion about that that's out there.
But I just think you combine allthose things together. The principle the belief

(33:32):
that the collectives will come in thehouse, and the doubt that is out
there, the exaggerations that may beout there. I think you combine those
things together and I think, youknow, smart, responsible people in the
Midwest look at that and they go, eh, I'm gonna sit out.
I'm not doing I'm not falling forthis right now. I need to see
more. You gotta show me more. I agree with all of that,

(33:55):
and I think you also have somecoaching fatigue here. Kirk farrens twenty five
years. He is a legend andhe is beloved by most fans, and
he's appreciated I think by all fans, or at least all thoughtful fans.
But I've had three years of hardto watch football. The offense has been

(34:17):
horrible. I think that's been discouragingto people. Anytime in the last couple
of years they've played a good team, they've been routed. So I think
there are fans who are discouraged bythat. There's certainly we don't even have
to get into the whys of it. There's deep Fran McCaffrey fatigue. Fran
McCaffrey is aware of the fatigue, and he sounds fatigued. He sounds sick

(34:38):
of the Hawkeye fan base. Soyou have that there's even a little bit
of Tom Brand's fatigue because Iowa hasfallen so far behind Cale Sanderson and Penn
State. The most popular coach atIowa, I could argue right now,
it's Lisa Bluoter. Yeah, no, no, she got gone throughout that
stuff. Yeah, through our ownhard work landed Caitlin Clark and that was

(35:00):
a complete game changer for the program. But she's beloved right now. Her
approval rating with Hawkeye fans is probablyninety nine. You have some old school
coaches that probably you know, weknow Kirk Ferret, we know how Kirk
Farrens feels about this stuff. Hehates it, yes, so he's not
out there banging that drum. Andit's another It's just kind of a tough

(35:22):
comparison to say, even to justbring up quarterback room, no matter who
you're talking about, comparing them toIowa. I mean, if you're an
Iowa fan who's skeptical about donating tothe Swarm collective, and I say to
you, hey, this team overhere has got a bunch of good quarterbacks

(35:45):
because they paid for him. Whycan't you pay for a good quarterback?
What are you gonna say? Ijust don't think that's my job as a
fan, Okay, other than wouldyou say anything like, well, let's
say I did buy a good quarterbackfor this Iowa program. Yeah, Like,

(36:06):
what's my guarantee that that quarterback isgoing to be used right or is
going to be the right quarterback oror the right quarterback is actually gonna If
he's got so many offers all overthe place, why are they gonna pick
Iowa? And to to that point, and injuries are the main part of
this, but we have been ledto believe the biggest payout that's been made

(36:27):
has been for Kid McNamara and thathas not worked out. Now it may
still work, they don't have agood example. The final point I would
make on this, Andy is oneof the things I think that Brent Bloom
has done a good job with andand Brad Heinrich has done some of this
too, and the Swarm has donesome of this. But I think the
way to reach people, especially thepeople with the Iowa values that you talk

(36:50):
about, you have to give themsomething in returns. Yeah, and I
know I know the cyclones got madeor the the uh we Will collective.
They're made fun of for pizzas andvodka and beer, and Iowa's had the
vodka and beer too, but thoseyou get something, you get something,
and it's an easier way as like, Okay, you know, if I'm

(37:14):
gonna get a beer anyway, I'mfine with twenty percent of this going to
the swarm. I think they gotto look for more ways of doing that,
like having these you know, youknow, charity softball games, charity
basketball games, meet and greech. You gotta get the you gotta give people
more of a reason to I don'tthink you're gonna get many more subscribers to

(37:36):
this. People do not want tofeel like they're paying rent on their college
football team that's generating one hundred milliondollars a year. Give them something in
return for some money to these collectives. I think that's the only way you're
going to reach some people. AndI honestly, I think that they need
to give up on the approach ofsaying that telling everybody that this is the

(38:02):
way it is now. Okay, nobody wants their cheese moved. No,
Okay, sometimes that happens, butthat's a that is a realization that we
need to come to on our own. It never works well when someone says,
hey, I know you don't wantto do this, but this is
the way it is now you haveto do it. And you're talking about

(38:29):
getting money from them, right. This is not changing your route to work
because there's construction. This is payingfor yet something else when you're already paying
for everything else. Throw Down's Livefrom the Whiskey River in Anthony Patio rooftop
Patio coming up next time. Showall right, guys, let's throw it

(38:54):
down Murpinadi Show one O six pointthree cakes and oh all right? Which
situation is worse? One where youhave to pee really bad and you can't
You're in a situation where you justcan't pee but you have to, or
when you desperately need water and youdon't have access to water. Because I
was in both of those yesterday.Oh wow, I didn't realize you had

(39:16):
to pee. It's because you wereoverhydrating. I I can't think of a
lot of situations, at least inmy adult life, going back to high
school. I can in football practice, but I can't remember really needing water
and not being able to get it. But I can remember needing to pee
and having like a person on anairplane sleeping next to me and not wanting

(39:37):
to wake them up, and itjust makes it worse. That's a terrible
feeling for me. I'll go withyou need to pee and you can't.
Yeah, in the short term,it's definitely having to pee is worse,
But in the long term there it'snot even close. I mean, you
could just piss in your pants andbe okay. But if you go without
water, you're gonna just did You'regonna just did. Were you wearn't one

(40:00):
of those dipes again? Nope?Next question, Lucas. Okay, So,
of the two big racing sports thatimmediately come to mind, the Indy
five hundred and the Kentucky Derby, which one would you rather go see in
person? This is easy for mebecause I've been to the Indy five hundred,

(40:22):
so it would be the Kentucky Derby. I've been to the Daytona five
hundred but not the Indy five hundred, and have been to the Kentucky Derby
twice. I'd still rather go tothe Kentucky Derby. The Derby is great,
that's a spectacle, all right. And then lastly, predict the NBA
games. We got to compare ofGame six is tonight. The Magic are
at home against the Calves and theMavericks are at home against the Clippers.

(40:45):
God, those are two series thatI don't give two craps about. Yeah,
it's tough to get get too excitedabout that. Give me the home
team, Yeah, whoever it is, so that'd be the magic just said,
he just said the magic Against mymouth talking, I'm starting to realize

(41:06):
just how dry my mouth still is. And I'm chugging water, and okay,
what the water is? What tastesbest? Because, like you,
you do not want to drink likea lemonade or a or something like to
like a Prairie friar shot tequila withsome Tabasco sauce on it. Yeah,
don't you stay away from the hotwings. My gums would actually start bleeding

(41:30):
at that point. Do you thinkit's it's been almost twenty four hours now,
Do you feel like you will eatcheese balls again? Seriously? No,
I do not think I'm ever gonnahave another one. Andy, Do
you have something I can't I can'tdrink? What is? What is vodka
and orange juice called screwdriver. Can'thave that because too many of them with

(41:52):
similar not high school but college. But we overdid it. And my my
friend Lorenzo, we were at hissister's house and for some reason this makes
no sense, but we you know, we were new to drinking, and
we were all drunk, and Lorenzosaid, my sisters, she's got these,
she's got this huge package of Oriocookies. But if we open them,

(42:17):
we got to finish them or she'llknow we opened them. And nobody
thought to say, can't we justtake throw the wrapper away or take it,
don't take it, take away itput in the neighbors garbage. Nope,
So we ate the whole pack ofcookies and it was a bad night.
Yeah it. Oreo cookies are hardto stop. Oh you start eating
those? Oh man? All right. We are live at Whiskey River in

(42:38):
Anchony. We're up on the patioon a beautiful day overlooking the lake,
rooftop bingo here Thursdays at seven, karaoke Wednesdays at eight thirty, and we'll
come back. Scott Siker joins ushere live at Whiskey River on The Murf
