Speaker 1 (00:00):
From Hollywood. Thank you for listening to us with Ryan Seacrest.
So I think we're just talking about Tony all runs together.
We're just talking about how you were saying that un
Buff and Robbie are setting fitness goals for June, aiming
towards a better you for July, and I have been trying.

(00:24):
I've been doing that a little bit recently. You don't
really notice when you saw me in person. I noticed.
We notice with your arm it's like Popeye. Well that's
because it's a smaller shirt. I mean, we really want
another trick. It's smaller shirts that helps. But I've been
trying to do two to three days a week, and
it's it's not fun when the alarm goes off, but

(00:47):
once you do it, you're happy you did it two
or three days a week, one extra like something movement
wise before work. Yeah, that's good. Do you want to
join our June? I couldn't think of anything. I don't
want to June. I don't want to join. I don't
want to Junior join or join your June June. No.

(01:08):
I don't need to be in the middle of you
and Robert hold each other accountable. Oh, I have an
accountability text. It's actually what you'll hold me accountable. I
want to do it myself. You can join our group text.
It's like Joe Joe, me E j Bata doing this
for a while. I told you about this months ago.
First of yes, we talked about it on the air,

(01:29):
did we not? You must have told someone else. Mark
is the encyclopedia of our show, and we did. We
did discuss this, yes, but you told you guys about this.
I'm not gonna lie I didn't. I don't remember this either.
Oh my gosh, Tanya, thank you. I'm not like in

(01:52):
the middle trying to be on your side. But well,
no side backhanded compliment. Believe it or you don't, or
you remember you don't anywheah, it's called hashtag hot summer.
You inspired me to do a little more and I
like it. But I don't need to be in on
your accountable game. I'm trying to do it myself. I
think that's the point. Wake up with gratitude and get
into some fitness and mobility, some movement, right and I

(02:12):
and I do know what I do is I dream
of my coffee, so I don't have the coffee. And
I like salivate over. Thinking about coffee gets me through
the minute mobility workout. I wish I would have senior
set up. Actually m hmm, I can be set up. Yeah.
And I was awesome of your recipes because you don't
need a lot of meat and we're trying to do
less meat. Yeah. Alright, well, I guess good morning here.

(02:35):
We got a lots going on with Ryan segret Hey,
you know, thinking about I can't get him out of
my mind, Michael and Robbie. But Michael talking about building
the deck for you before July four? What is this
guy doing. He's going to the home depot where doers go,
and I'm trying to get him out of it. I'm like,

(02:56):
do you hear that time? He's like, yeah, SETI wants
me to build a deck by July four. But down
I'm like, bro, you want to help out of this?
Like no, I want to do it. I'm like to
do that tomorrow now there, I don't need him to
build the deck. He wants to. He wants to build
it because it was like an assignment. He wants to
do it because she was just say she wants it done.
It's the time frame and believe me. He thinks he's

(03:18):
going to build a deck in like three days, and
if it's not happening, we're going to make it happen
in some way. So we'll see if you get that
should be home deepot, I know exactly, And I'm trying
to get him some stuff from the home people for
Father's Day and it's like he goes there all the time,
so I'm like, he knows everything that's there. All right,
let's keep us posted. I was blown away that he

(03:40):
actually I got he's going to do it over time.
But like it's now, the colds are warm. We went
to a wedding in the dis house. He told him
how easy it was for him to build a deck
and build a depth. Even talked to him about it.
And then you get into it. Now. The thing I
said was you gotta dig holes and put somethent down.
He goes, no, there's a solution of that these days.
So I got into it with him about the support.

(04:01):
But let's shift. Let's shift. So as we all know,
traffic in l A Is always beat. Took me our
twenty to get to Dignity Health Sports Park, you and
the other twenty people exactly, And if you if you
add something to it, it it gets insane. So the bad
news is this week it's the Summit of the Americans.
Do you know about this? I know about the Summit
the America's Do I know exactly what it is? Not necessarily.

(04:24):
I know that it's a big time. It's a big
time to be hosting it. So you've got world leaders
from North, central, South America all here this week, the
presidents here as well. You're hosting it. No, President Biden
is hosting it. I wanted to host this, but they
did not call. It's like when on stage this is

(04:50):
the Summit of the Americas and the like, Ryan, tell
us more about this sum I just want to open
it up cold open right there. Hey, guys, over to
you right uh shoot now it's in my head. How
much fun with that feed? Maybe next year? No, I
don't think it's hot, but I would like to listen
in on It'd be fantastic to listen in on it.
It's great all the leaders of the America's coming again.

(05:12):
The big issue though, is getting into downtown. This is
where it's going to cause havocs. So if you can
avoid downtown you should. Most of the ramps off the
one ten gonna be closed or have those security checkpoints.
Mayor's office saying to avoid the entire area between the
ten and the one on one west of the one ten.
And that's for you know now, until really the summit ceases.

(05:33):
But the goal of the summit is to have good conversations,
productive conversations about all the issues we are dealing with
um as nations that are relatively close to each other.
And the theme this year Tanya is building a sustainable,
resilient and equitable future. And that's not hosted by not hosted,
it's an unhosted event. This but you if you're wondering

(05:59):
and you're gonna hear this now and you're gonna forget
about and caught in the traffic this nightmare, she'd be like,
oh my gosh, I knew I should have avoided it,
and I forgot about that. So don't forget about that.
Dolan is my mother's My mother used to say, well, Ryan, John,
you're a daylight and a dollar short. Thanks. Sorry, man,
it's really just cutting a close. Now. Let me talk

(06:19):
about real estate for a second. So I know you
love to scroll apps like Zillo and red Thin, what
you know, I enjoyed more than ane of things in life. Sometimes,
whether you're moving or not, you do it right. So
if you are listening and you're looking to buy a house,
there are three phrases you'll see in the listings, and
these are red flags. They say. One is diamond in
the rough like this is when people write it down

(06:41):
like they put it in the listing. Diamond good house
in an unpopular neighborhood is what they're saying. Diamond that's
what this decode or something up and coming neighbor that's not.
But that's not untrue. I mean I wish I would
have invested in certain neighborhoods way back in the day
that are not. But you can't like when you're trying

(07:02):
to like you want the up and coming part now.
Not in my boy twenty years ago, I used to
rent this place down on a street called Abbot Kinney
and there was not much, not much going down and
he's like, you know, I'm just there's this little apartment
on the street or I guess the tiny tink little house.
I'm buy it not expensive at the time, laughing all

(07:22):
the way to the bank. Yeah, guy sold it to
like I don't know theory or something. Yeah, so anyway,
you do look for those those great investments. Now, the
next one they say is look out for original details
or vintage. Original details or vintage, they say the previous

(07:45):
owner means they did nothing to update the house, just
to ask about like write this down and ask about it.
Or if they say well maintained in the list, what's
wrong with well maintained? Well, it should be obvious, shouldn't it.
If it's well maintained, it should be I guess the
Dakota says. When there aren't any features worth mentioning, they
say this instead instead of space filler, interesting diamond, The

(08:11):
original details of image are well maintained. Today's quote normalize
leaving relationships that make you second gas where you stand.
On air with Ryan Seacrest headlines well Primary election day
yesterday and just months after surviving a recall effort, Governor

(08:31):
Gavin Newsom will advance to the general election in November
with about sixty of the vote. His opponent will be
Brian Dolly, who received uh of the vote, and Representative
Karen Bass and billionaire developer Rick Caruso will advance to
a runoff in the l A Mayor's race. Votes are

(08:52):
still being counted, but it looks like Bass has around
thirty eight percent of the vote and Caruso has about
forty one percent. But since no candidate reached the top two,
we'll face off in November. And Mayor Eric Arcadi signed
a proclamation this week making Juneteenth, which commemorates the end
of slavery on June nineteenth, a paid holiday for Los

(09:13):
Angeles City employees. The Los Angeles City Council voted unanimously
in August to initiate the process of making Juneteenth and
official city holiday to celebrate the end of slavery. Slavery
in the United States, Juneteenth was officially recognized as an
official federal holiday last year air with Ryan Seacres. So

(09:37):
they we we talked about Sea Comito. They didn't at
Wingo Tango, they went back to back on stage. I
don't think they. I didn't see him hanging out. There
was one thing she said on stage, and I don't
know if it was like implined Seawan, but she was
like talking and she was like, I know, I gotta, like,
you know, wrap it up soon because other people have
to get on stage and sing. I didn't hear that,
but I didn't think anything of that. Okay, people the

(09:59):
crowd were talking we did them dirty? What did we do?
We didn't do anything for him. Back to back, they
were like, so, Sean's obviously on the stage and he's
watching her on the big he was, of course, he
was white and wasn't watching. I saw him backstage. He
was backstage, back behind the opposite side where she accident.
You can't not much you can do. But we may
booked that way before the news happened. I don't know

(10:20):
the right meetings. All the meetings. Well, i'll give you, guys, Jackie,
good morning in Baldwin Park. She takes all the good meetings,
not even any good meetings for us anymore. It's a
good meetings, Jackie. How are you hey? I'm great, Thanks,

(10:43):
So how can we help you this morning? Well? I'm
really upset. What's up? Okay? So my daughter, who is
a really really good daughter, went to Coachella and that

(11:03):
sounds great, except I just found out that my ex
husband hired private security to follow her around there. Why,
oh my gosh, why did that? Um? Why did he do? Well?
Let me let me say this. Okay, she and her
friends wanted to go do the whole thing, camp, three
day risk bands, everything. Yeah, I know, I'm fine with it.

(11:25):
I was fine with it. Yeah, smart girl. Um, he
was fine with it, except apparently he didn't want to
be the bad guy, so he had him followed. So
did he tell you that ahead of time or after? Oh? No, No,
did not know that any of this ahead of time?
Did your daughter now at all? No? She didn't know either.

(11:49):
They went the whole weekend being stalked. Well did she
know now? Yeah? You know how she knows now because
he told her. But she's so mad at him, which
I don't blame her because look at they they had
video of the girls in front of the porta potties.

(12:12):
Well I don't know why they shooting video that, but
I think look, if a parent is protective and they
go to a link to protect their kids, however they're
gonna do it, this is pretty extreme, then you should
just I can never do some my own relationships, but
communicate like talk about it, say we're going to do
Then he talked to you about it, right, very intense.
But I'm thinking about my niece going to coach Hella. No,

(12:34):
I'm not thrilled about that. But then you would hire
security to find sec I might have to go along
after I. You know, obviously she doesn't want her dad there.
So the dad went and did this, I would be
a security looking outfit and secure. This is so extreme.
That means that not only did he have to pay
for the security, he had to get them wristbands to

(12:57):
go to coach Hella. I think it's just doing behind
everybody's back, like however you want to after your kids.
How the other parents feel, Jackie, Oh, my friends, the
other like my the parents of the girls, Oh my god.
I didn't know. I didn't even know how to tell them.
I didn't know if I should tell them. And then

(13:17):
I thought I owe it to them, because what if.
I mean, I don't know where that video is going.
I gotta leave it at at this Jackie, and we're
gonna let you run. I think the intent is, the
heart is in the right place on this. This is
trying to protect your child. It's like how your husband
ex husband, how it was executed, how it was done,
how over the top it was. I mean that stuff

(13:39):
you should talk about. But I do think there's a
little there's a little credit and saying all right, I
get where your heart was. But let's talk about this
stuff before you. So they said drastic measures. Do you
greece his name? I agree, he should have communicated to you.
And now like this breaks all the trust I think
between him and his daughter. Yeah, they're not talking talking.

(14:03):
This will pass, but I understand it's going to pass.
By next job are Jackie. Thanks for calling. I appreciate it. By.
I've never heard anything like that. It's extreme, but just
got to talk about it. I mean, I love giving
advice about communicating a relationship, and I find it the

(14:23):
hardest thing. Like it's gonna communicate, communicate your might try
that once on air with Ryst I want to bring
in the sky here. He's on the line now, so
good timing. TikTok not just for crazy dances. Rob Greenfield
is dedicated. This guy I'm gonna bring on. He's been
walking around l A in a bunch of trash and

(14:45):
I mean it's very cumberousme looks like a Transformer type
figure walking around. He's dedicated to use in TikTok to
save the environment. So what he does is he chairs
content that he thinks his education or empowering helping people
reduce waste by being mindful about it. I guess we

(15:06):
on average create nearly five pounds of trash a day.
And to Rod created this visual that helps us understand
how much trash we create. For thirty days, dudes been
walking around with the average American amount of trash on
his body, So let me bring him in now. And

(15:27):
do you want to see the visual? We can go
to at Rob dot green Field on TikTok. Rob, Good morning,
How are you doing? Good morning? How are you well?
I'm so curious. Are you making an impact? Are people
paying attention now that you're walking around with trash bags
all over your body the streets of l A. Yes, absolutely.
That's the reason I do my activism is because I

(15:49):
find creative ways that reach people that might not otherwise
think about important environmental issues, but really catch people's attention
and get them thinking. So it's very very six us.
What's your day job, Rob? This is my day job.
I do environmental activism. I'm The money that I make
comes from public speaking, but basically my day job is

(16:11):
waking people up an inspiring positive change, which is great.
We all need that. And I read here it says
that you live a zero waste lifestyle. What does that mean? Well, um,
basically the idea is that in my day to day life,
I try to create as little trash as I can,
but not just that, I pay attention to all the
ways in which my life interacts with the earth and

(16:33):
design my life around rather than being dependent on consumer goods,
actually connecting to my communities, connecting to myself, connecting to
the earth, and finding the resources that are you know
here made by the earth for us and have always been.
So what do you find. You know, it's hard to
go to zero, right, it's hard to go to zero.

(16:55):
That's just that's But what do you for those of
us sitting here, those of us listening, What's something we're
doing every day that we could maybe do better, a
better job at on a regular basis. Yes, absolutely, the
goal is not really zero. That's a term that's used.
But the goal really is just more about mindfulness in
the way that we interact with the earth. So, you know,

(17:15):
one of the big things that we can start doing,
for example, is composting, you know, all of our food weights,
turning that in the soil, and then even taking it
a step further growing food with that. Well, that's people
are doing biodynamic farming in some places around the world, right, Yeah,
more and more people. I mean, that's the thing that

(17:36):
I'm really really excited about, is that millions of people
today are waking up to the fact that's the way
that we're currently interacting with the earth. We don't have
unlimited resources, and you know, we could end up destroying
our very selves if we keep doing it this way.
And millions of people are waking up and one step
at a time taking power back from corporations and putting

(17:58):
that power back into our hands. The people are communities
and working together to live in harmony with the earth. Look.
I like all the words. I like the vocabulary. I
like the way that they sound when they come together.
And I think they're just hearing this, maybe it'll be
top of mind to think about doing something a little
bit differently and go from there. You just talk about compost.
I was watching this. I get into these like the

(18:21):
Secrets of the White House, or the Secrets of cruise Ships,
or the Secrets of the CIA. It's like these series
ones a BBC one talks about the secrets of the
biggest cruise ship and they take inside there. Yeah, cruise
ship knows they're there with it's it's authorized. I just
I know it comes up for things you I might
want to watch. So I watched this one and they're
talking about the cruise ship kitchens. I mean, it's incredible

(18:43):
to see behind the scenes on a big cruise ship.
But they compost the food, so there's so much food
waste on cruise ships. They compost that food in some
big machine in the kitchens and they dump it out
of sea. Because it's just but it's fascinating to I
didn't really understand it, and I want to go justin
behind the scenes tour of a cruise ship. But anyway,

(19:05):
Rob Greenfield, take a look at what he's doing. Rob,
thanks for coming on, Thanks for all your efforts. Appreciate you. Yes,
and one note is that I don't post a lot
on TikTok so, Instagram, at Rob day Greensfield or my
website Rob Greenfield dot Org is definitely where to find me,
and that's where I share hundreds of tips on how
you can live more better. Get on the Talk, Bro.
People are buzzing about it on the Talk all right,

(19:27):
Thanks man, Thanks for calling on air on air with
Ryan Secrets this Wednesday, morning, President Mrs Biden and arrive
in l A today hosting the sum of the America's
Traffic is Gonna Snarl a snarling traffic scenario with all
of the leaders of the America's coming into Los Angeles.
Big deal to be hosting this. It was the last

(19:49):
day school a d C Unified sent Tinnella Valley Union
High School, East Whittier, al Rancho Garvey, Last virgin Is
last day on Roviot Redondo. The excitement of the last day.
I didn't sleep the night before the day of the
last and the first thing we did on the day
of the last always was to go to either Dosami

(20:09):
Goes into a close or LAPAs restaurants from a Mexican dinner.
First thing first day, like day off of the same
day school was out. It was three cheese enchiladas and
tomotiga salsa in the morning. No So Ruby is joining us.
Ruby is a producer on the morning show. She was

(20:30):
wango tangoing over the weekend and I just find it
fascinating to get to know. It was not like Prime.
We're just curious about everybody's scenario on the show. I
know so much about Tany and about Sisity I'm learning
more and more about you, and you bring an interesting
scenario to the table. Go ahead, Ruby, Yeah, So my
brother has a new lady in his life, and um,

(20:54):
you know, he mentioned that, like they're very serious, like
boyfriend girlfriend. Now after a month they're kind of moving,
asked um. And then he mentioned that she has three kids, Um,
from three different men and different guys. Yeah, three different
guys guys, And so initially, like you know, everyone, like
a lot of people in my family and friends are

(21:15):
just like when they hear that, they're like, I don't
want to Judea like, yeah, we don't want to judge,
Like we don't know. Everyone's like that. What you think, Um,
I think I was just a little surprised because he
always said he didn't want kids, So I was surprised
that he like would be with someone with kids. But
I guess he doesn't want kids. It kind of makes sense,

(21:37):
like there there there's no pressure. Yeah. Yeah, so older
the kids, Um there, I think the two they're they're
like in eighteen twenty and then the youngest is like three, Okay,
so it's like he's thirty four. So here's she's a
little bit older. Age difference there here's the thing. First

(22:00):
of all, I'm just thinking because I am the brother
and I have a sister, and she's had to meet
several people, you know, and I'm thinking, wow, I've never
really looked at it like that, and she's always great
with everybody, and I feel like maybe she's a little
bummed when it doesn't work out because she's like put
some time in, you know, we get invested. And as

(22:23):
a younger brother, I mean, but as a younger, older
brother growing up, I was like, you know, I don't
I don't think I want to date someone's got kids. Yeah,
And then as a older, older brother, I don't really care. Yeah,
that's what he said. He's like, look, I'm older like I. Yeah.

(22:43):
But but still if you say you don't want kids,
even if you're dating somebody with kids, it's similar. But
maybe that changes your mind. But it sounds like the
inflammatory part is, Wait, this woman's not done well with
three guys. Yeah, that was a concern from some people
in them. It sounds like she was very young with
the first two. But you don't know, it's hard I

(23:04):
get that on the surface level, like as a protective family,
like we'll hold on what's what's what's the common denominata here?
But we don't know. My life is short and is
he happy? Is he My mom always says, if my
chickens are happy, I can't ask too many questions. Yeah,
I mean that's literally what my mom says to She's
just like, if he's happy, like that's all that matters.
So well, I think we vote for his happiness. And

(23:25):
we played this one out let you played this out
you know, he did tell her He's like, we haven't
met her, and he's like, I don't want you to meet.
The three sisters are kind of like you are talking
about this is this is subtle, subtle, good luck, but yeah,
keep us post on that room on Air with Ryan Seacrest.

(23:52):
On Air with Ryan Seacrest, Let's bring in Mandy Moore
here on this show. It's got a new album that
will get to you. And also, congratulations made I haven't
I don't think i've spoken to you since um your
big news about your second child. We have not, but

(24:12):
thank you so much. All Right, I don't I don't
want to give stuff away, but I think it's okay
to talk about it. Right, we can talk about what
has happened on this is us. Because it's been a
few weeks now people are gonn get upset with its over. Yeah.
I don't want to get people set with you or me.
But wow, amazing last six years, six seasons and it

(24:33):
is overstown for what three weeks now? Yeah? Yeah, I
think like the finale was two weeks ago. But yeah,
it's crazy, this very seminal chapter personally in my life
is over. And um it was such a rite um
and yeah, the end was incredibly intense and emotional, but
I I think we stuck the landing and wrapped it

(24:54):
up in a really just think in a beautiful manner.
You got to do something I mean fiction nonfiction, fiction,
fiction nonfiction in a way that is so fascinating to me.
And that is a ten your own funeral. Yeah, you
had to go to your character's funeral and watch. I didn't.
I didn't really do it on purpose. It was more

(25:15):
of the way the schedule was. Um, you know, the
show was wrapping up, and I wanted to see some
of my friends, some of my cast members do their
series finale like they're very last seen on the show.
And so I was shooting later in the day and
I got to work early and got already and made up,
and I kind of snuck over yeah, and got to
see some people say some very kind words about my
character and then kind of popping and say like, guys,

(25:38):
I'm alive. It's okay, don't worry, it's not It's not
how we always kind of all in real life wanted
to do that. Here what you we want to say
about your funeral and go kidding and who's gonna go yeah,
and who's not gonna go. It was pretty funny. Uh.
It's also when I think about knowing you for so
many years and looking all the things that you've accomplished. Uh,
you know, it's like you did it right, and you

(25:59):
were doing it and then this is Us comes along,
which completely changes in my sort of changes everything for you.
Do you look at that way it did? Yeah? I
mean I'm thirty eight. I've been doing this since I
was this team, and this was certainly this very unexpected
chapter of my life. I mean, before the show came along,

(26:20):
I was contemplating just kind of not throwing in the towel,
but like maybe I need to change directions. I don't
think this acting thing. I just I felt like I
wasn't getting traction and there was so much rejection, which
is obviously a huge part of being an artist anyway.
But um and then lo and behold this, this you know,
incredible gift came into my life and you're right, Ryan,

(26:40):
it like it changed everything, Like my life fundamentally looks
so different personally, professionally, like and it it showed me
something about myself, Like you know, it takes one person
to kind of believe in you and give you permission
to do something you've never done before. And our creator
of our show, and Feldman, like he saw something in

(27:02):
me and was like, yeah, I believe this woman can
feasibly play a twenty five year old and an eighty
five year old and everything in between, and helped tell
the story of this family and this matriarch. And I
never would have had that kind of self confidence or
believe in myself if somebody hadn't kind of seen that
in me first. And you know, for anybody listening that
has the ability to believe in someone, I think we

(27:24):
all do, but especially to change their lives, take up
you know, go for it, like, you know, really really
go for it, because you're the same Mandy Moore with
the same talent that was trying to do whatever it
is you wanted to do in the acting world, almost
ready to throw in the talent away, and then you've
got this great role that has teeth to it and
it seems meant to be. It seems perfect. Right, Yeah,

(27:47):
you're right though. It's like if you can give someone
that shot, if you see something and someone even just
letting them know acknowledging, that can change the whole game
for someone. It's so true, it changes it changed. So
all right now listen, Mandy's not gonna sit down and
just chill out now that this is us, it is done.
It's actually gonna be in my parents neighborhood on Friday
in Atlanta. And you're pregnant right now, Mandy, Right, so

(28:10):
you'll be pregnant on tour. How does that change things?
Good question, wasn't really part of the plan that you
know has other plants, um and we have our fifteen
month old done with us as well my husbands in
my bands, like we just decided moment my brother in law,

(28:30):
the drummer and the band stop. Yeah, it's really it's
going to be like this crazy summer family adventure. Now,
tell us about the music. What will you be performing
in real life? Is out now, that's the new album.
Tickets are available, but tell us about it. Yeah, I
mean we're doing some stuff from the past. I mean,
got to kind of nod to the old days, Anty

(28:52):
and I want to be with you and only hope
I got ready to yes, yes, yes, that was in
the queue for you. I love it. Um, So we'll
do that some of that stuff. And then obviously I
had a record out like right before COVID hit that
we were supposed to hit the road with, and we'll
be playing songs from not recording from the new album

(29:14):
and everything kind of in between, and just it'll be
a fun, intimate night of music with the band and
just kind of lots of chatting and stories. And I'm
just excited like I've been toward in fifteen years, you guys,
So this is this is something I've been kind of
like that's been on the back burner in a passionate
way for me. It's just work has sort of kind

(29:36):
of intervened and I haven't been able to do it.
So I'm I'm really excited for it to finally come
to fruition. Well, if you're listening, you want to be
in a good mood. This is what you go see.
You go see this family up on stage. Mandy Moore
headlining and her new album In Real Life is out now.
Tickets to her tour are available mandy more dot com. Hey,
it's great to always check in with you. Thank you

(29:58):
for coming back on and take care and keep it
out many congratulations. Thanks guys, I appreciate it. Nice to
talk to you too, Okay, by right, there's just a
niceness there. It's just good people vibes every single time
for twenty years that she's come on our show. Good
vibes and you feel good when she comes and when
she goes. All right, let's get to five to one

(30:22):
out to seven here. This is Tom. So. Tom says,
my sister is asking my family to follow intense COVID guidelines.
So Tom, what's up? Hey, Hey Ryan, thanks sticking the call. Um. So,
my sister is still terrified of COVID, which I kind
of get, um, but she had a newborn last year

(30:43):
and we really want to want to meet my nephew.
So we finally convinced to come for us to come
meet and uh, we're making the drive at her request.
We're not flying. It's a value our drives and we're excited.
But she just sent an email with some guidelines. So
for context, we're all vaccinated and boosted UM. But she
wants everyone to quarantine for two weeks before the visit.

(31:04):
I think, you know, March at its worst when everything
was closed, So then that's the start there. If we
do go out, she wants us to wear a nine masks.
She sent us a link for it. It's like a
special mask that that she found that she trusts more
than the others. UM. And then before we all get together,
we need a PCR test two rapids on the day of.

(31:25):
And when we go see here, we have to stay
outside the whole time. So there's just a little it
is we're staying at a hotel here, Bible. When we
go visit, we have to do all of our stuff
outside with her. So what's the question. So the question
is I I'm having some trouble here because I think
I need to push back a little bit. UM. I

(31:46):
can't quarantine for two weeks before before we visit. I
have I have in person work, UM, and it's just
it's it's it's been kind of difficult and I feel
like it's a time that we live to do a
just or um. I don't know it. Well, Look, I
get as you if you told her it's a little
frustrating to you, and then you are willing to take
the test and get the results and show the results

(32:07):
and go through that. So I told her I can
do the test, but she still wants us to. It's
quarantine for two weeks before us. That's a lot of
time off work and everything. I don't know how you're
going to do that, honestly. You know, most places of
business and most venues and place who really have stract
guidelines will accept the test as a way to prove

(32:31):
that everything is okay for you to be together. Of
course you're talking about being outside as well. Tom, It's
a tough one. I mean, you can push back, but
you know, I guess it's her hosting this, and so
she's gonna do what she wants to do, but it
might just result in not as many people being able
to come or come. I know. It's kind of a bummer. Yeah,
I mean, I'm just think of the zooms. I really
want to be my nephew. I get it me too.
I'm I'm so over leave leave leave whatever, leave and

(32:54):
then leave again. Can you take all the time off work, Tom, No,
you can't take. I mean, I'm starting to put request
into my boss and and it's kind of at that
point where they want everybody back. So I'm just getting
I know it's gonna be a top of your conversation,
and it's gonna be are you gonna be if you
can't go? I mean, yeah, I want to. I wanted
my nephew. And the scary thing is where it's not. Now,

(33:16):
when's the end in sight? You know? Right? Well, look,
you can only you can only do as many things
as you personally Tom can do in your schedule, in
your life. And so you've got to explain that to her,
do everything you possibly can, and if she still shuts
you out, you've done what you can. It's not meant
to be this moment, all right, all right, obefuly don't
the line like than yeah, of course I get it,

(33:37):
good luck. I mean, that's this about to quarantine for
two weeks if you've got a job, it's just like, okay, impossible,
it is unless you can maybe work from home those
two weeks or you know, if you look, that's what
I'm saying anything you can do to um provide her comfort,
do it that you can do. If you can't do
it becomes impossible, then you can't go. If she doesn't

(33:57):
want to, let you slide. It just seems extreme, Like
what does she do when she goes to the grocery
store like that? You know, it's like, why is it
so strict for the family to come visit her, even
if they're gonna be outside if I'm sure she's doing
stuff around town, getting her nails done or whatever. You know,
it's like, we've been into this for twenty seven months.
Seven months. I remember the first week that we were

(34:19):
into this and I couldn't believe what I was hearing
about a lockdown for five days or whatever it was.
It was two weeks a lockdown? What does that even me?
I saw they were locking people down in Italy first, right,
and we saw that, right, that's bizarre. And then here
and still, I mean, we're coming into a different place.
But twenty seven months of I'm looking at people right

(34:41):
now with mass On in this room, mm hmm, ycrest.
So a lot of things happened to me. There's new
iOS software. I'm sure I have to download immediately, and
it's gonna ask me do you want to do it
at noon? Not now? I want to do in the
middle of the night. Yeah, And it doesn't like at

(35:03):
two am or something. Sometimes it doesn't. Well, it's just
this is the night it's not charged properly, or you
might have an alarm set. Oh does the alarm throw
it off? I think sometimes the alarm throws it off? Maybe?
All right, So anyway, the sixteen. I always when I
say those letters and those numbers in that combination, do

(35:23):
you feel it like you get excited? It makes me
nervous because that's why when you update is when things
stopped working, you know, and then he has to fix
everything for you and like reset just me personally, especially
what do you to Why do I have a phone
never works? My phone doesn't work. That's not my phone
didn't build it. I always people have sabotaged my phone.

(35:44):
I think you just like hit buttons too many times
and then you like lock yourself out of this happens.
I can't, by the way, I can't get into my
nest camps because you're just like chop chop, chop, trap chop,
and it's like you've been that happened all the time. Yeah,
you needed more patient a little bit. I don't you know.
My mother always says that to me, and I keep saying,
are not now, I'll work on my patients. Not now.

(36:08):
Part of the work on my patients, but not now.
I need a little time. Then I'll work on my patients.
But right now, my impatience is serving us. It's true. Yeah, okay,
my patience is serving us here right because I were
patient lolligag around and I don't know, play song here
and play song there. It's true. I was actually talking

(36:29):
about I was talking about that the other day. I
was like, you know what, there are a lot of
benefits to working with Ryan Seacrest, and then there are
not what's on the other side. But one of the
top ones is like I just I admire how efficient

(36:50):
he is, Like you are very efficient, and I admire that.
I think efficiencies underrated. He could come across as impatient
or mean or that. Yeah, but there's none of that.
Efficiency creates more space, and space creates more peace, and
peace creates more balance, and balance creates more happy and

(37:10):
then patients over. The game changing news is we can
send a text, have it be delivered, change our minds
and retrieve it or edited exactly. So if you have
a drunken night, let's say, and you send a text
and then you immediately regret it, you can go in
there and say undo send and then it'll suck it

(37:33):
back before I want to just play this out practically,
So I send you a text you up, yeah, okay,
and then I realized in the morning I didn't want
to send that text. Yeah. Here's my question is what
happens if the other person has seen the text already.
Maybe it won't maybe it won't let you suck it back.
So maybe it only lets you suck it back. If

(37:54):
is there like a text stop, a layover in between
when it's sent and when it's delivered. I don't think so.
I think if I would have send you text and
then edit it, and what if you're reading it, I'm
editing the text, you see me editing it, I don't understand.
I have a feeling that it will have to be
able to block it because it'll it'll notify the other
person that they've already read it. Is this available right now? No,

(38:15):
it's not gonna come out until this fall, but it's
coming with a bunch of other cool stuff, Like the
lock screen is going to have new widgets, and you know,
we get all of our stuff. No, this is you're
gonna You're gonna like this one. So you know how
we get all of our notifications on our lock screen.
It's like like the whole thing takes up. Now it's
going to be like one little bar and they're all
just gonna scroll on their like CNN. Okay, but I don't.
I don't like those anyway. Yeah, turn off you do.

(38:38):
I'm saying that that problem is already solved, but I'm
not so excited. I'm not. I'm really I'm excited about
already seeing it on my home screen. But you guys
are who are? We just wanted to be easier. This
is so much easier. I actually don't want to I'm
gonna tell you guys, I'm flip phone, a fliphone. I've
had it with the phones, man, I'm just serious. Io

(39:01):
s out. This is really good. This is what we've
been wanting. Actually, this is the one thing we do
need and we do want. And they did a lot
of research and they said, because where we don't mean
to send things all the time, so you may have

(39:21):
seen Herreni Logan won the Script's National spelling Beam. It
was speed Round fine live. I was into it. I
was watching it go down, but then I started doing
This is a lot of pressure for the students and
also the guy that hosts it. The host of the
spelling be dcor Jacques Bailey. This guy has got to

(39:43):
pronounce every word perfectly. He's got to know the route,
he's got to know the definitions. And because it's a
live competition, there is no room for slip up or
air and it's all live. And I started getting inside
his head in my head and I thought, that's a
high pressure situation because you want to be the like
when I host Idle, we're seeing songs, give out phone numbers.

(40:06):
Yeah right, we got this. But this guy's working with
young kids spelling words and words. I could not even
pronounce a word and they do them so fast. Yes,
it's crazy, but so listen. This is the host the
script spelling be doctor Jacques Bailey. T h R E

(40:28):
A T Y d I Angie. This is speed Round
Paris on X Summer e x C I M E R.
That would be the highest pressure hosting John X Summer
is that like last summer. No. Uh, and this is
on Ion, guys. I'm watching Ion's live coverage. L S

(40:56):
I c A d sem gotten So I wanted to
understand more about the host of the Spelling be and
he joins us Now, Dr Bailey, good morning, How are
you hi, Ryan? How are you well? I'm just happy
I don't host the Spelling Bee. That is is high

(41:17):
pressure when those contestants are asking. And I know you've
been doing this for a long time, so it's second nature.
But I watching Harini and I'm watching the contestants asking
all these questions about the roots and the definition of
the pronunciation and different pronunciations. Do you ever get nervous
about making sure it's all perfect for you? No? Not really.

(41:39):
We do a lot of preparation and it's I'm the
one who delivers the information, but the associate pronouncers every
bit is capable and he's checking everything I say, and
the judges also are looking at the information and they're,
you know, working on it. We've got people on the
on the function they can communicate with me, who've put
together the list. So basically I'm just the mouthpiece for

(42:02):
a whole team and it's actually really hard for me
to make a mistake. They'll correct me immediately. And also,
Dr Bailey, you can't really show too much emotion because
you've got to keep it on track, right Well, I
try and have an encouraging tone and just convey that
I'll answer any question as long as they want me to,

(42:24):
because that's what I'm there for, you know. Just keep
it calm and happy. Do you ever like I will
be reading a teleprompter and a big word, big word
is coming and I start to get that like anxiety
and panic that it's on the way and I'm going
to mispronounce. You don't have that in you, not really.
There are some words that are in the dictionary that

(42:44):
have sounds in them that we don't usually make, and
so they're trying to imitate some foreign sound and that's
a that's a little strange, But I wouldn't say I
get nervous. So Dr Jacques Bailey with us he won
the beat back in when did you win? What was
your first win? You can only win once, you can't

(43:05):
come back. And were the words easier in the eighties?
I think so some of them were, some of them weren't,
But overall, I think that they were it was easier
to win. I had to tell you I had seen
it over the years and wanted to reach out and
just I did not have a chance. And this one
I found, This one that was on I on the
end of the night, I found especially interesting because that's

(43:29):
you went back and forth for several rounds at the end,
and then that ninety seconds lightning speed round is pretty impressive. Yeah,
but you gotta think, if they're studying thousands of words,
how do you think they study. They've got to study fast,
so they're probably used to doing that. You mean, tips
for us on how to memorize questions whever people come

(43:50):
on our show. It's a lot of hard work. Honestly, Um,
I don't I don't know what else to say. Just
work hard and keep paying attention. Then care about details.
So what happens between now and the next spelling be
for you. Dr Bailey, Oh goodness. I have some recording
sessions in the summer because, uh, some of times the

(44:11):
kids and the parents don't know how to pronounce the
words at first, so we give them accurate pronunciations for
a lot of words, and then there are various meetings
or we established lists and have to make sure that
everything is you know, all the teas are crossed and
the eyes are dotted. Well, thank you very much for
delivering uh an incredible competition and it's so wonderful to

(44:32):
see those young students excel. And I met Herni just
the other day. She came into the studio and I
had a chance to meet her and her family and
her six year old brother. Who do you think the
six year old will be in the b one day?
He's gonna try and I certainly wouldn't be surprised, you know.
Thank thank you for helping to celebrate them. Of course,
it's our pleasure. And keep up the good work. Dr Bailey,

(44:54):
thanks for coming on. You take good care you too. Okay,
bye bye bye. I can never did. I'm the worst
speller in the world. Do you know that? To this
day I spell like itinerary in my phone and my
phone kicks me out, doesn't even give me an option.
I'm so far off and you spelled it's wrong too
many times, not even wrong. It's like I'll type in

(45:16):
correspondent and I type it in wrong intentionally but close.
I'm so not even close. Doesn't give me an auto
correctroption on Air with Ryan's Seacrest. Thanks having us. On tomorrow,
we are making a Ryan's Roses call Sysne. He's got
you until eleven. Have a great day, take good care.

(45:36):
Thanks for listening so on Air with Ryan Seacrest. Make
