Speaker 1 (00:02):
It's up your Marilepez joining me now on studio from
General Hospital actor Ryan Karrents. How weren't you, man, I'm great, Mario,
how are you? I'm really good. You know. I hosted
the Daytime Emmys recently and it's always fun seeing the
General Hospital group. You guys usually clean up with those awards.
Do do quite well? Had the honor been there last year?
Was it last year? Did the uh what do you

(00:23):
call that? Ball? The nurses? Yeah? Yeah, that's right. There
was a lot of fun. So good group over there. Good. Yeah, yeah,
it's a really good group of people. Where you from originally,
I'm from Illinois, yeah, part West Central. I grew up
in a town called Pittsfield. It's a little farm community, Pittsfield, Pittsfield, Illinois.
That sounds awesome, man, So how did you end up
in l a oh? Man? Uh? Well, I so I

(00:45):
had no idea that I was going to be an actor.
I didn't even know that that was like a thing
that that existed for me, like within the realm of possibility.
So I I wanted to be a lawyer actually, So
I went to school at Duke University and I was
studying public policy, You're smart parent. Well, I I eked
in by the skin of my teeth. I'm sure mom
was excited when hey Mom, I'm gonna quit my pursuit

(01:06):
of a law degree and will be an actor. Oh god, yeah,
you know my my parents have always been really supportive
in that sense. I'm an only child, and I think
with that comes like with for parents, it's like, we
got one shot, we don't We don't want to mess
him exactly. And so I actually asked him. You know,
I went to them and I said, hey, I think
this is something that I want to do. I want
to give it a shot, but I know you guys
have invested a lot. Do I have your blessing? And

(01:28):
they said, we just want you to be happy. They're
better people than I would have discouraged you. I said,
are you kidding me? I spent all this money and
do them that guy? Alright, son? And then I guess
eventually were like, you do want your son to be happy,
but so far it's working out. You got a new
movie that just came out, Valentina's Wedding, Tell me about it. So. So,
Valentina's Wedding centers around a girl named Valentina. She's a

(01:50):
Mexican girl, and I play an American guy who's engaged
to her, and we're here in the US. We have
this happy life, shiny, we're both from you know, we've
got we've got great petti Greece in our family on
paper with a perfect couple, this incredible proposal. But she
leaves to go to Mexico and tells me she's got
to deal with some family stuff. But she doesn't come back.

(02:10):
So I get online and start looking to see what's up,
you know, like like we all can these days, unfortunately
for better or worse, and I find out some things
about her family. So I chased her to Mexico and
end up involved in a in a love triangle of
sorts and meet her crazy, crazy family and hilarity ensues.
Oh that sounds fun, man, It was really fun. Yeah,

(02:32):
very concept romantic comedy. Romantic comedy comedy. That's and where'd
you guys film it? We shot mostly in Mexico City
and it was my first time there. How do you
like it? I loved it. I loved it. I love
the people, I love the food. Um. It was a
really rich experience for me and that was my first
time there, and you know it was it really was
my first time in Mexico. I think I've been to
Cobo once years ago, but it doesn't really count, right,

(02:54):
which is which is what everybody said to me when
I was there. And then and then we shot a
week in Toronto to finish out Wow International International North
America Man All North America. So, who plays a girl,
Morty mat Vega? Okay, I had it took me a
while to learn how to say her name correctly, mighty Mata.
Did you have to learn any Spanish for the film?

(03:16):
I did. Yeah, there's uh. I got very good at
saying that. Yeah, okay, But there's one scene in the
movie where where my character, who doesn't typically drink alcohol, um,
drinks a lot of alcohol tequila and mescal to be exact,
and um, then he has to say some things in Spanish.

(03:37):
He says some things in Spanish and they're not necessarily
very nice or proper or anything like that. Yeah, we'll
be we'll be checking that out. And I know you've
got a few other projects in the works to what
should we be looking out for. Well, Um, So it
had been a while since I've been on Jinger Hospital
I've been traveling and working on some film stuff and
and now that I'm back, Uh, we're gearing up to

(03:58):
do a storyline where on the show my husband and
I are adopting a baby. Ah, you had a husband
on the show. I do okay, Yeah, I had a
husband on the show. Perry s Yeah, I plays. My
husband has a handsome guy, got good taste. There's a
storyline for you. So you guys are adopting a baby. Yeah,
we're adopting a baby. And we're at that point now
with General Hospital. Yeah we made progress. Yeah, I see that.

(04:23):
I see that. Is it true? You're also a drummer?
I am How long have been playing? I've been playing
since I was about six. That's when I first started
taking lessons on like a concert snare dropping. Then from
there I went to a full kid. Uh it's really fine.
Played a little as a kid. I regret not not
sticking with it, but yeah, it's it's it's such a
great It's never too late. Man, always put the sticks
back up. You know. It's funny. My kid's been asking

(04:44):
me lately once to play drums. I'm like, oh my gosh.
And now he's a parent, like what's louder. My daughter
plays a piano. It's okay, you could deal, but a drum.
Oh gosh, yeah, so we have to I'm gonna have
figured all that out. That's another way that my parents
are really supportive. I mean I had for a while
I had my drum set set up in the living room,
so it was like, full on. Yeah, these parents are awesome. Yeah,

(05:06):
that's pretty great. And is it true you played with
the Duke University Marching Band I did? Yeah, better known
as Leal. Yeah, what are they better known as? Dumb? Yeah,
Duke University Marching man right right, Dude University Marching right
themselves dumb. That's funny, that's funny. But we were smart
because it got us into the Duke basketball games, which

(05:26):
is kind of what everybody wants. And yeah, yeah, the
Cameron crazy Yeah exactly. All right, before I let you
go and put you on the spot, quick questions, quick answer,
All right, go to karaoke song. Oh man, ice ticks Baby,
it's a good one. Does it come choreography? No, not really.
You just sort of standard like, okay, bouncing head Bobby. Yeah,

(05:47):
that's about the extent of mine. About the choreography, Yeah, yeah,
last show you binge watched Mine Hunters that David David.
That's a really good series. So much you haven't seen
it yet. I know. It's really on the docket. It's
on the docket. Favorite drummer either Carter Buford or Danny Carey.
Carter Breeford from Dave Matthews Band, Danny Carey from Tool

(06:10):
Oh yay, that's a good one. Yeah, I mean yeah,
celebrity crush going up. Um, well one of them was
Tiffany Ambertheesen Taste. Yeah right, I mean yeah, you know, um,
and then I would say Carmen Electra and Pamela Anderson.
Well you gotta look okay, okay with that squad right there.

(06:35):
And last one time travel destination time wow, um yeah,
like the Western Frontier alright, cowboy, Yeah, there's something about
there's something about that time period and like that aesthetic. Yeah,
it's just until you get sick because they didn't the surgery.
Then they just get your hammered and then just start
like removing kidneys. Yeah, they got to pull out a tooth,

(06:57):
take a couple of shots. Yeah, up until it's their
Their medical profession was a little off. They were a
little behind the time, we're behind the time. But you
know another thing about that time is I was talking
about this somebody recently. It's like I think problems got
solved differently than it's like you had a problem with somebody,
you just shoot him right, and like it's yeah, it's

(07:19):
like it's risky. It's a risky time. I kind of
like that though, you like I have a headache and
like do some cocaine. You've got evil spirits inside here,
all right, look except for other reasons apparently all right. Well.
