Portions of the following program. We'repre recorded. Ay I'm five seventy KLA
(00:05):
ninety eight seven k y s areHD to Los Angeles, available anywhere you
see the iHeart Radio Whipple. Thisis Mischelada Monday, and it's not a
real mischelada if it's not made withMadelo Madelo Especia rude with the highest quality
ingredients for a taste, that's poor. Gored solo men, Sola Gorda me
(00:44):
this tea, last Goda songs.I'm also weary of all earnestness, gong
it out, Petrouss and money liveon location four hours. Who would the
(01:06):
funk? We could still do afour hour show after thirty one games and
talk the Dodgers finally get a breathetheir congratulations guys, like, get your
ass to Chicago. Way to go, have fun at New Comiskey Field.
Try not to get carjacked on theway to the stadium. Yeah, don't
(01:26):
suck any you know what's on theway to the parking lot. Where are
you going? Thirty seven after splittinga series with the Mets, the Dodgers
on the road to take on theWhite Sox. I mean short shows tomorrow
and Wednesday, but today, afull four hours live on location, could
not ask for a better back draw. Literally, our backdrop is a step
(01:47):
and repeat for the Los Angeles ChargersImpact Fund and Children's Hospital Loss Ange.
Yeah, we were supposed to interviewpeople on this step and repeat earlier and
we said, no, Matt's gonnaplay in this tournament and Mama, she
I'm gonna work a no factor.Got to squeeze in a cool seven holes
before Joey Bust showed up. PostDarvin ham Presser had to sit in for
Joey until he arrived post Presser. So he's a local, Matt. You
(02:10):
know, we got a lot oflocals here. I am from this area,
the Palace Verdes Peninsula area also knownas the Hill as in correct.
And we are here in Rolling HillsCountry Club. How long has it been
here since the sixties? Right? My dad used to golf here when he
was growing up. My dad grewup on this street, Uh, down
(02:32):
that street on Roan Road off Palace. Well, first they lived on a
on a twenty fifth street or anyway. Uh, he is h he's a
guy who used to golf here andthis is an old club. But they
redid it a while back and hada very long renovation and now it's so
boogie that it hosts events like LosAngeles Chargers Invitational presented by Children's Hospital Los
(02:58):
Angeles presenting sponsor. And we've beenhere twice now doing this tournament interrupted by
the pandemic, and it blows mymind that I can just drive down the
street and we can hook up ourshow and do it from a golf club
that I've driven by my entire life. Now, there used to be a
giant sand factory around here, andthe golf course was around the sand factory,
(03:22):
and said sand factory had like ahuge like some kind of erected lookings
like it wasn't a smokestack, butit was like, you know, it
was like from a cartoon where thesand comes up in crates. Like it
was like it looked like a realmocky nah and the assembly line like hey,
yeah, kind of like that.Yeah, and a box up this
sand and ship it off and thewind would blow and the sand would blow
(03:46):
into the faces of the golfers. You got to face adversity in the game
of golf, you know, itmakes you a stronger player. They have
eliminated a great deal of that adversityof belief. It's like golfing with Lords
of Arabia. A lot of thatadversity has been eliminated as they built this
beautiful links course and redid the clubhouseand moved it to the other side of
the street and all this beautiful stuff. It's a great country club. And
(04:09):
the reason we show love to itbecause we are not really a country club
and show even though Matt used towell, Matt used to belong to a
country club, but those days arebehind this. Days are long gone.
Matt hasn't washed his hair since nineteenninety four. It's been like a week
and a half. So we comehere because Derek is our friend who runs
this club, and he's a biglistener and he's in charge of the club.
(04:30):
We love him. Derek's the best. The club is incredible. The
days of the Sand Factory, whenthey didn't sell baseball caps, they seld
burkas. Yeah, you look likeone of the everetts. In order to
play around. It was gnarly rightback and then wind blew the wrong way.
But the sand is gone, right, the sand is gone. Yeah,
it's all gone. They used thatas a foundation for lush fair Way.
(04:51):
It took perfect greens at least twentyyears, like building a pyramid.
It took him that long to getall the sand out of here. Now
Joey Boss and Justin Herbert and TomTallesco and people like that can walk around.
We have so much to do,We have so much to promote.
We have so much fun to haveMatt here at the Chargers Golf Tournament.
We're gonna do a lot of greatsports talk. We have a four hour
(05:13):
sports talk, but we will havesome of our charge of friends and luminaries
on as they come through and aremade available to us. Well, we
are looking at stand out second yearthis year, defensive end Chris Rump as
he makes his way to the eighteenthgreen. Right. We talked to Rump
at the draft. Yes, Rumpjoined us at the draft. I believe
he'll join us. He should beone here. No. Well, yeah,
a hell of a DJ set going, you know. And I heard
(05:35):
what was being spun on those Techniquetwelve hundreds and our fancy dancing DJ lady.
But Rump, we're gonna hear whathe says because this is a golf
course. Very much for him isfollowed, Yeah, the proper educate here
at our HCC. So we dohave some Charger guys that are gonna come
on, Kate's I believe all ofour interviews will be Charger interviews. Is
(05:58):
that correct to say that we sawTom Telesco a little bit earlier? Man?
Is he had some tight clothes. He is wearing tight clothes and a
bright orange shirt. Wow, cannotbe missed. I mean he looks like
I mean, he looks like RyanGosling. I mean it looks like a
wetsuit. I mean it's got anoff season, unbelievably tight clothe. A
lot of extra medium going on forTom. We'll have to ask him about
that. When he joined SE's gonnahave a hell of a season, right
(06:19):
if you just tell right behind rump, I believe is our old friend Drew
Tranquilla at the out of Notre Dame, captain converted linebacker from safety at Notre
Dame. Now with the Chargers. He joined us from training camp. We
really enjoyed our time with him.Who else? Is it justin Herbert just
(06:41):
drove by a second. I sawthat he's got about six seven holes to
go. Our friend Hank Bauer ishere, no way, So maybe we'll
get the hammer on Dan Fouts, whom we love as well. Interviewed Dan
and his beard, so should be. Oh and Brandon Staley, Coach Staley
is out here as well. Soa lot of folks that we will catch
up with between that. Yeah, yeah, Tim, do you think Brandon
Staney was invited to the Sean McVaywedding of the Centering over the weekend?
(07:06):
And I'm so can you ask himif he was? Question? Great?
Call great former DC right, hehad to be there. You know McVay
was nervous as hell front all thosepeople. You know, he was vaping
so hard before that wedding. Youknow what's all that? What's that giant
plume of smoke coming up from behindthe chapel. Oh, it must be
(07:27):
coach mcvagh. There's a new post. Yeah, coachma white smoke of Coach
mcvagh. I mean, if PeteSchrager flew across country and was invited to
this thing. Well, they hosta podcast together, the Flying Coach Podcast
Shreigs and McVay, So, Imean, how are you gonna leave your
(07:47):
podcast partner out man Cherry vate podcast? Wait a second, they host a
podcast. Maybe that's a podcast.Lebron James gonna go on? Oh did
you hear about that Lebron James thirsttrap last night? Everybody's all geeked up.
I have a big boner over StephCurry and his long threes and then
the pool guy with his long threes, and everybody's like all the Warriors are
(08:09):
back and Warriors come out to play, and Lebron can't take it. It
sears his skin like those tattoos thathe has. He cannot take it.
He can't take it, so hehas to do it. Matt just like
he blazed, he said, hold, just like old, just like he
always has to say something, justlike he said during the summer. Please
keep that same energy about our personalages. That's them and the smoke out,
(08:33):
the sun, the snout. PleaseI beg you keep that sae.
Lebron did it again last night.Everybody in the basketball world is watching a
basketball game that we're supposed to payattention to. Hymond Green act like a
psycho freaking out against smart smarts, green hair, the whole thing, Jalen
(08:54):
Brown getting pants and what is LebronJames so thirsty when somebody tried to panty.
You gotta spread your legs, yougotta get splits. Are you stand
there and you play it cool?Oh yeah, that's my boots. He
check it out. Look at that. I get to show you my boots
and I'm gonna get in trouble.TikTok swinging around a couple of times.
But what did he tweet? Whatdid what did the King? King James
(09:16):
tweet? It is here's your quotewith one hundred and five thousand likes,
ninety three hundred retweets, sixty sevenhundred comments. My god, jumping on
some one podcast soon, maybe myown hmm I'm oji again, okay,
(09:37):
jumping on some one podcast soon, maybe my own m And what does that
imply that at some point he's gonnaspeak. I mean one hundred and five
thousand people are excited about it,like yeah, because there's one hundred and
five thousand people that are like, hey, you gotta come on the two
one three podcasts with me Dog fromPretis High School, Let's go gunn.
And that was back. That wasa back to back tweet. I forgot
(09:58):
he'd prefaced that saying, it's sofunny to me how many basketball experts there
are on this app everybody doctor JamesNasmith. It's fascinating. I don't think
you'd want to be Doc Nasmith.Things have really changed came up with basketball.
Yeah, I mean maybe like LarryO'Brien or Bill Fitch. You're doctor
James Naismith. You're running out therewith a ladder after everybody makes a shot,
(10:22):
trying to get the ball out ofthe beach basket. Oh yeah,
like, hey, let me getthis out so we can keep playing like
this. If I'm on this appgoing, they're really going to slow down
the game. You know. Ireally like the way they inbound that pass,
especially if they had to get theladder out and pull that pull out
the basket. I mean, that'swhat you'd be doing if you were Nasmith.
So Lebron is gonna do a podcaston past two things? Two things?
(10:48):
Uh? Do you think the Dukeof sports retweeted or commented or asked
him to come on his podcast?Oh? I'm guessing. Speaking of jumping
on a podcast, it feels alot like Blaze Pizza. This radio show,
you know it does this radio showbecomes a podcast. What up,
Chris? What's happening? How areyou. It's good to see you again.
All right, let's do this.Play some music, some intro music,
(11:09):
guys. We have to have itready. The intro music has got
to be ready at all times becausewe have big time pro football players in
their golf gear. The outfit waslaid out on the bed last night,
that's true, and then he putit on this morning. He looks great.
The last time we talked to him, we didn't hear a damn word
he said, because there was acrazy thing going on with the DJ and
(11:31):
everything. But he has a greatsmile and the people love him and he's
a huge baller. It's Chris Ruppon PMSS once again. Matt Man,
what's up. How y'all doing?Man? Doing great? How are you?
I'm doing pretty good? You knowwell? And mc golf course and
you know I hit me a littleeagle putt earlier. Did you really a
little thirty five yard putting five golf? Yeah? I'll do a little go
(11:56):
in there. Ye okay, allright, how much just get straight into
the football. Joey used to kindof call you what string being or something
like that, and I he waslike, Chris is all muscley. Yeah,
So like, how much weight didyou put on you feel like you're
Yeah, definitely. You know,I got an off season in in the
NFL, so I was, youknow, able to you know, actually
hit the weight room hard, youknow, focus on exactly what I needed
(12:18):
to do to get bigger. SoI never feel stronger, I feel more
explosive, I feel faster. I'mmoving the same way you know I did
when I was you know, twotwenty in college. So it was good
off season. I'm really going totraining camp to twenty linebacker for the Cocks.
You know, you still have tohave you have to have some sand
in your ass and oh you gottahave some dog in you at the end
of the day. Twenty in acchanding the dirt man. Yeah, yeah,
(12:39):
that's a rough ticket. Tell usa little bit about what the off
season is like for an NFL playeras opposed I mean, I played college
football, so we all kind ofdid the same thing, right, We
all did the same run on Monday, we all did the same lift that
day. You know, how isit different for a guy like you in
his first off season in the league. Yeah, so, I just it's
(13:00):
it's really on you. You don'thave any coaches telling you what to do.
So the main thing I wanted tohead into the Austins is have a
plan, you know, have aschedule. So you know, I got
with Mondo. You know, Italking to my dad, you know whoever
he you know I had access to, you know, figure out, you
know, how do I go aboutthis, and you know, I gather
all that information and I've been atit since honestly, uh maybe two weeks
after the last game. So sowhen it comes to this year, we
(13:24):
heard Keenan say it. I thinkyou just kind of talked about how much
excitement is around the team. Atthe free agency. You got Khalil Matt
coming in obviously you're rushing the pastornow you got Joey and Khalil to to
kind of pick their their brain, give us an idea of just like what
the vibe is at these voluntary OTAswhere everybody's kind of turned out. Yeah,
I mean the vibe OTAs has beengoing great. Everybody's locked in.
(13:46):
You know, we're just kind ofbouncing as an a room. We're just
bouncing ideas off each other. Imean we got Kyle van Nooid, we
got Khalil, we got Joey Ithink, you know, combine they got
like thirty years plus and me,you know, and going into my second
So just be able to go inthat room and just hear so much intelligent
football being taught. You know,I'm I'm blessed and grateful to be able
to go in that room and learnfrom those guys. BA At the same
time with walkapeting, you know,we got goals. You mentioned your dad,
(14:09):
he's a cool where's he at rightnow? Minnesotakay to Minnesota? So
how often are you guys talk? You FaceTime? And it's great technique,
like what do you guys like? How much? How involved is he in
your career? Yeah? You knowonce you know, once I got into
the NFL, it's kind of youknow, he lets the coaches do,
you know, what they have todo. But other than that, you
know, we talk every day.You know how's Ota is doing, you
know how your practice is going. You know, we we trash talk a
lot. If you have the onething that we probably do the most when
(14:31):
we get on the photos trash talk. But you know he's going through the
same thing I'm going through, andit's kind of cool to be able to
you know, call my dad,and you know, we're both in the
league, and you know, welook at each other. We're both living
the dream. So we're both blessedfor this opportunity. What do you do
with all the stuff? Like, you know, because if your dad coaches,
you know, he's You've lived allover the country, all kinds of
(14:52):
weird places, some of them cities, some of them you know, college
station type of places, and youknow, like clams it. What do
you do with all that orange stuffwhen he gets hired? You know,
now it's all purple? Yeah,you know, I mean that's a lot
of he knows a lot of fightsongs. Oh yeah, what do you
do with that? You give itaway? Do you send it somewhere?
What do you do with yours? My stuff? I gave it to my
(15:13):
little brother. Honestly, he wearsmost of my stuff at home. But
most of that stuff goes in thememorabilia. Regardless of you know, how
many times you moved, you alwaysgonna have memories, you know, Alabama
No. One two National championship forso I'm definite gonna keep that stuff.
But yeah, I keep all myI got all my clips of stuff when
I was a little nothing from Memphisthough, right, you just left it
(15:33):
Memphis and you got nothing. Ithink mom has the Memphis stuff. I
was a little baby, so youknow, she got a little memento County
High South Carolina State lack Baby,Texas, Texas. I got some stuff
from Texas, Florida, Florida.I got some shorts I wore the other
day from Florida. I mean honestly, whenever we had college day, man,
(15:54):
I just get to pick who Iwant to wear that day stuff.
Oh yeah, how many how manybuddies do you have still still playing at
Duke? And what's an Il doingfor them? Are they cashing it now
or like what's going on with that? So I got it. I got
a handful left. The majority ofmy class is gone. Uh, and
then you know the class below isit's still there. A couple of transfers.
(16:15):
But I talked to them here andthere. They're they're loving it.
You know. So one of myhomeboys, you know, got a little
door dash discount, so I'm hittingthem up for that. Yeah, but
they're they're saying that it's it's uh, it's it's coming to getting a little
little hectic, a little bit honestly, you know, it's just it's a
lot of people. And then Il that's different at Duke though, Yeah
I'm being sponsored by a research institutionby Hedge Fund. Yeah yeah, yeah,
(16:38):
you might get spons exactly something. You might get sponsored by one of
the students that goes there. Imean there's a lot of people that you
don't know that like high level ofpeople at Dukes. So they're handling pretty
well though. And and the thingabout Duke, you know, they they're
gonna hi get you know, intaligent guys who know what to do with
the money that does come in.So like Chris Rump, like one of
the great guys, and it's somuch better to listen to his voice before
(17:00):
we let you go. Because you'vebeen all over the country. But now
you know, I mean, youwere in La Man, you're here at
the Rolling Hills Country Club. Walkingaround you see the city, the hills
of Whittier, downtown Los Angeles, all the way over to the West Side.
Have you gone to Hollywood? Doyou feel I mean not Hollywood,
but you know you feel at homein Los Angeles. I feel like an
(17:22):
Angelino. Did you go to CoachNo, I didn't do all that you
devil Wood saw there on TMZ orsomething. I will show the speed.
I mean, I think it eversince Branford dressed like a full native American,
I think topat But no, Ilove LA once I got out of
here. Man. The view ofthe Hollywood. I've been in West Hollywood
(17:45):
a couple of times. I gotone of my teammates from Dude, you
know, transfer to UCLA. SoI've been up there. I mean I
can't stay awood. Yes, yeah, yeah, I mean it's it's it's
beautiful. I mean West coast, the best coast is what my saying.
Guys, have you been in OrangeCounty? You're moving to Manhattan Beach.
I'm near Newport, you know.Yeah yeah, like Toby, Yeah,
(18:08):
you might want to look at itwhen you guys move up to Elsa.
Now you do your thing. No, i'ma live with you man. I'm
trying to say a couple of bucks. Man. I know it's a little
expressive riding across pch is a beautifultown and I want you to look into
it. Okay, have some askaround. It's called Lowmda Lomida. Yeah,
and the nickname is slow Me.Don't want not gonna get in trouble.
(18:30):
You're not gonna get in trouble onslow Meda. You don't want to
you don't want to look at Yeah, I'm getting all pro. But it's
got a devil. Thank you somuch, Chris Man. It's always a
pleasure, man. Yeah, I'mI'm about to go here another one,
thanks to shut out. At leastit's not a religious institution with the devil
(18:51):
at one one thing. Dad,Hey, hey, we're gonna y'all.
Look, we ain't on y'all schedulethis this year. Yeah, purple shirt
exactly right there, he goes Chris, Chris Ron, what a great guam.
Absolutely, Oh yeah, don't forgetthat ball. That's the lucky ball.
Thirty five foot eagle play. Areyou still gonna play? Oh he's
still playing. Let him go exactlySorry about that. They're like, oh,
we could just stretch it out,Caramelow saw here we go. We
(19:15):
got DeAndre, we got Zion.Yeah, let's get DeAndre in here.
Absolutely, DeAndre Carter absolutely straight outof the thing that is at the four
ot. We're going both We're goingto Yeah, yeah, you want to
grab you got to high school Washington, Fremont, Okay, I'm glad you
didn't go to uh Bellerman because theyrun the veer. They would have never
thrown you the ball. All right, here, Matt, we're here at
(19:37):
the Chargers golf tournament, and there'smore Chargers. We got two new Chargers,
go figure. We got Zion thefirst round pick, and we got
DeAndre Carter just signed what about amonth ago. Yes, I love it.
We got a Boston College Eagle. We got flying beans from their college
time and the U and the eagleBoston College. So welcome guys. Two
(20:00):
with the Rolling Hills Country Club. It's a great course out here. It's
a beautiful course. It's it's theyrebuilt it. It used to be a
giant sand factory. Really yeah, with the sand in your teeth like this
stuff, you know, like thestuff in the turf. Yeah. So
how did you guys play today?Did you play all right? Or did
you not play? I didn't playat all. I could tell tell by
(20:21):
came out real casual, but uh, just driving around me and a DP
done and part I'm walking around checkingout guys playing and stuff like that.
Man, seeing I was going greattime, Zion, when you played,
uh, when you played golf inhigh school. Do you ever play any
course like this? Like? Whatwere your courses? Like? We played
some pretty good courses in the DCarea, uh, near Annapolis, but
nothing like this. This is amazing. You know. We were walking one
(20:44):
of the holes and we saw sofar in the distance and really, yeah,
it's amazing. But I'm surprising myselfbecause it's been years since I played.
But I'm shaking the rust off,you know, are geting some good
shots ten and Eagle putt. He'swalking around with for Eagle okay, right,
and he laid out his outfit thenight before. He was excited.
(21:07):
You know, I got the golfshirt, but my golf shoes and my
clubs are back in Maryland, soI had to make do what I okay
whatever? You still played well, though, Yeah, how do you find
clubs for a giant offensive line typein in the middle of the Rolling Hills
Country Club? Did you help him? No, you did need to fit
these guys up for some clubs andstuff like that. Yeah, they took
care. So the pro football LAlifestyle here at the Chargers golf tournament and
(21:30):
we got DeAndre Carter and Zion andwe're so happy to have you both.
How has the off season been goingfor both? The gas has been going
well for me, just trying toget into the playbook and new playbook,
trying to get a get customed tothat, get used to be on,
get on the same page with us, and stuff like that. But it's
been great. It's been great.I lived down here for the last four
years, so I'm home. Sooh yeah, Rolling Hills, No,
(21:56):
California, California. So I livein Ontario right now, Okay, by
the airport, by the apt straightback to Sacramento to see the big Rabbit
at that airport. You know, you know about the rabbit, Zion Rabbit
Zion Johnson left guard to right guard? Is that is that kind of how
it's going right now? How's thathappen? Yeah? So for me,
(22:17):
honestly, it's just you know, getting the reps down on the right side.
It's felt pretty natural. You know, I'm right handed. You know,
there's a lot in sports science thatgoes down, so you know,
when you're right handed, playing onthe right side, offensive lines usually better.
But I felt pretty good, andyou know, the vets have been
helping me a lot, and youknow, it's been good to learn the
new playbook and and mesh well withwith my new teammates. I just want
to get back to the clubs fora second. So you're a gigantic human
(22:41):
being, do you swing with aton of swing? Like? Do you
have extra stiff clubs? Aren't theyan inch long? Like? What did
they set you up? What didyou get in the pro shop to help
you out here today? So backwhen I played before, I was like
two hundred and twenty two hundred andthirty pounds. So my clubs that I
need now are different. I definitelyneed stiff shot and you know, probably
(23:02):
a bit longer clubs than the oneI used at home. But uh,
you know the clubs I have now, they're they're working well for me.
Yeah, we are your stiff shaftshow. You talk about getting in the
playbook. But in the return world, is there, like, man,
I really liked returning it for thoseguys. They had a dude that could
(23:22):
really block, like you know,I mean returning to kick for is it?
Is it very different for you know, at this level, different teams.
It just comes down to the scheme. A lot of the time,
the scheme's very different. No,not not for the most part. It's
pretty much the same. It reallyjust comes down to the you know,
the guys on the unit. Likeonce you everybody buy into it and everybody
(23:44):
putting one hundred effort into it,that's when special things started to happen.
So we got a great UNI,great great corps. I'm excited to you
know, put our put our producton the field on Sundays. When I
was a young man, Detroit Lionsused to have a returner and he was
just a returner. He never hedidn't do anything else. Okay, the
was Mel Gray, Remember Mel Gray? He was He was who who did
you grow up watching? Take ballsback and inspired you because some guys don't
(24:07):
follow the rules. Yeah, andthey're great. Some guys follow the rules
and they're not very interesting there.Yeah. I grew up on Devon Hester.
Obviously, he was you know whenI when I was, when I
was, when I was in highschool and stuff. That's when he was,
you know, really coming to theleague and starting to making plays like
that. So I grew up watchinghim. I got a hold of some
old Dante Hall uh you know, footage and stuff like that. So just
(24:30):
kind of watching those guys, andI watched you know, the guys in
the league that's still playing right now. And I try to take as much
as I can from anybody that Ican, and you know, try to
apply it to my game. ButI definitely grew up devons Zion. You
uh, you leap college. Theydo everything for you, so specifically nutrition,
Like, what what's that been likefor you? Just kind of happened
to set your your own thing up? How much are the Chargers helping you
(24:52):
out? What's the diet like now? I mean, it's been good.
Our nutritionists has really been helping me. But I'd say even for me in
college, I was someone who triedto be on top of my nutrition,
so the transition hasn't been as difficult. But you know, working with the
nutritionists getting a plan specifically for mehas definitely helped so far. You think
you're gonna start golfing again, Iactually do it. Yeah, after being
(25:14):
on this course, I mean, you can't beat it. It's here.
Yeah, I'm not gonna say anythingabout the course, silot No, No,
I can take care of you mightbe. Yeah, you're real nice
to that guy. You want toyou want to get out here a few
more times? You got to getthis well, we're having the time of
our lives out here. Well, let you design you're you're you're still playing
right, Yeah, get out thereanywhere. I'm here exactly. DeAndre Carter
(25:41):
is still here. There goes Zion, go Eagles. I took a recruiting
trip to Boston College that it wasvery cold, very cold. I had
a really hard time, very cold. Right now, you you have a
great story. You've been all aroundthe league. You're an old school hearn
it. So it's I mean, somehow you didn't get to Stanford or call
or Oregon or all these other placesthat recruit in the Bay Area. Uh,
(26:03):
you were substitute teaching school about sixyears ago. Looking back on all
that and seeing that you're you're hereand and uh have a great role on
this team, you know, whatdoes that How does that grab you?
Or is it just a daily deal? Uh? I mean for me,
it's I get up, you know, every day, and I would put
my all into it and uh,you know, go to work and doing
(26:26):
my job. But I definitely, you know, to reflect on the journey,
just how hard it's been to getto this point. It definitely something
that pushed me every day. Andthen you know, going to substitution,
substitute teaching at the school. Iwouldn't get that experience back from my you
know, for the world. Ilove those kids just being a somebody that
they could come and talk to andfeel comfortable, you know, explaining there
(26:48):
whatever their daily trials and tribulations are. You know, it was in a
rough area that I was substitute teachingin, just you know that out of
out of school at home life seesomebody, so that they didn't come talk
to you. But I wouldn't tradethat experience is back for the world,
and it definitely helps me cherished themoment that I'm in right now and positioning
IPP twenty that I'm having right nowwith the Chargers. Uh, definitely cherish
it because of that. What kindof teacher were you? Were you like
(27:11):
the friendly guy, disciplinarian? Iwas? I was? I think I
was the friendly guy, you know, kind of just you know, I
did with the whatever the teacher's lessonplan was, and then you know,
I was kind of laid back, chill, let the kids, you know,
as long as you getting your workdone and not calling too much having
again, you know, here toomuch from me. Were you on that
were you on the Sack State teamto beat Colorado. I was on the
(27:33):
Sax State team in Colorado. Webeat the Organ State two my freshman.
Look at that, now, ahundred yards and a kickoff return. It's
not the same as running a hundredyards you know in the workout. Yeah,
no, way different. Yeah, twenty yard kickoff return. It's not
like running one hundred yards, notlike running three hundred yards exactly a workout.
(27:55):
People don't realize that. They thinkit's a video game. At what
point, I mean, is itlike your lungs are on? I mean,
it's what is it the twenty Yeah, I mean, so you get
there really once you you were inthe area where pretty much all the bodies
are, you're not really thinking aboutit. You know, you haven't even
bread yet. But then you goand it's just you and the kicker,
(28:18):
and you gotta win that one hundredpercent of the time. But once you
pass that kicker, you get aboutthe forty to the fifty. Let's get
a little bit heavy, start startinga little bit. Gotta gotta make sure
that form is working for you.So you just, you know, does
it affect you later in the game. No, after after you like I
had. I'm tired. Yeah,no, you got like you score.
(28:41):
You've had a game with a lotof big returns. Like a lot of
times we go back to the sideline. We got time in between, we
got TV breaks and stuff like that. So it's not something that lingers out
throughout the whole game. But ifyou're doing that on top of taking snaps
on offense and things like that,Uh, it started hit you a little
bit. But you have a longreturn and then you're packages in on first
down. Yeah, and you haveto stay out there. You got I
(29:03):
mean, you gotta stay out there. You gotta make can't you can't,
can't tap that. But you know, you get a little get a little
way. Most of the time afterthe return, you get a TV break.
So he'd be right you Uh,you're in Washington last year. Yeah,
so you got to experience Ryan Fitzpatrick'slast year. I know what,
I lasted a half. I wouldassume you you got a chance to hang
out with him. See what everybodyreally loves being teammates. He's a really
(29:25):
great dude, great fun dude tobe around. Brings a lot of energy
to the locker room every day.Even after he got hurt, He's still
showing up to me and still showingup in the locker room and being one
of the guys, you know, just being able to see in his career.
You know how how it you knowtook shape for him to have that
attitude and to be that positive leaderin the locker room after you know,
(29:45):
jury that he had was you know, was breath as a breath of fresh
here to see. He's a greatguy, real great guy. I love
that dude is there because you playedfor a handful of teams and obviously visiting
stadiums you played in probably almost allthe stadiums. Is there is there turf
that you like in particular? Isthere a particular feel you really like?
Dallas got really fast turf. Dallashas really fast turf. New Orleans has
(30:10):
really fast turf. I haven't hada chance to play it so far yet,
so I'm excited excited about getting outopportunity seeing that whole architecture fast and
we'll see how fast it is.For sure, we'll make that thing fast.
But I'm excited to getting there andbe able to go, you know,
touch that turf. You're not gonnalive in Ontario and like make that
commute every day, are you probablynot. I'm probably moved close to the
(30:30):
to the facility for sure. Let'ssay that's a hell of a community to
California about forty about forty minutes inthe morning. It's not terrible California.
Yeah, definitely not something I'm lookingforward to doing. Redo. It's a
lot of places, a lot ofplaces. Yeah. Well, whether he's
playing against the Grand High Pacers orthe Las Vegas Raiders, that's a sorry,
(30:51):
it's looking master. I mean,yeah, I love the Pacers.
They got they got. They didn'thave a lot of players come out of
there of praise come out there, but they're struggling a little bit on the
mass. Love Bay Area football, and you're a class act in a champion.
And those might be the coolest shoeswe've ever had anybody ever wear.
Look like I was gonna say, those are the Dancing Bear. You know
(31:15):
any grateful Dead songs? I donot know a single one, But I
make a hell of a shoe.Yes, that's a great answer. Most
of that's a great answer. Mostof them are still with us making shoes.
You know what, going down theroad feeling bad, that's the DeAndre
Carter going down for rateful dead song. I'm about to go hop in the
car right now and check it out. There we go and have a safe
(31:37):

really enjoyed that. Thank you toBrock and Danny for setting that up.

the car with there's Rookie with thelittle clubs in his big ass body.
