Kia ora, Talofa, Ma’lelei, Bula and Welcome to Season 09 Episode 24 of Breakfast Bites, by TEIVOVOdigital.com – a wrap of Pasifika people’s sports news, on a sunny and bright Tuesday morning 30 April 2024.

Coming to you with tons of hanisi from the 180th meridian, in the middle of the blue continent.

In rugby union: Mick Byrne and his boys must try and win at least one of three away games to stay in the Top 8 or to make a late charge into the Top 4.

Their remaining games are:
·       Brumbies in Canberra 04 May at 9.35PM
·       Western Force in Perth 11 May
·       Reds in Suva 18 May
·       Highlanders in Dunedin 26 May
·       Rebels in Lautoka on 01 June

Their best bet of a win has to be against the Force, Reds or the Rebels.

In rugby league: Sydney Roosters star Luke Keary has made the shock decision to retire at the end of the season.

The 32-year-old only re-signed with the Roosters in February on a one-year extension for 2025, but has had a change of heart.

FOX Sports reports Keary informed his teammates after the Roosters’ 60-18 win over the Dragons on Anzac Day.

He did not want any fanfare so Keary made a formal pre-recorded announcement via a statement to the public last night.

In football: Arsenal tripped up Tottenham 2-3 at home in their North London derby. Spurs currently sit fifth on the Premier League ladder, seven points off Aston Villa – and with a goal differential six worse – but with two games in hand.

In combat sports: Aussie champ Tim Tszyu had little choice but to accept the highly risky fight against new KO King Daniel Ortiz Jr in August, after his recent loss in Las Vegas.

Tszyu will lose everything if he does not upset Ortiz.

In SportsBiz: In the NFL Draft 2024: An amazing 15% of the first 20 picks were Pacific Islanders:
1. Chicago Bears — Caleb Williams QB, USC
2. Washington Commanders — Jayden Daniels QB, LSU
3. New England Patriots — Drake Maye QB, UNC
4. Arizona Cardinals — Marvin Harrison Jr. Ohio State
5. Los Angeles Chargers — Joe Alt, Notre Dame
14. New Orleans Saints — Taliese Fuaga, Oregon State
15. Indianapolis Colts — Laiatu Latu, UCLA
20. Pittsburgh Steelers — Troy Fautanu, Washington

And that’s a wrap!
