Clitemnestra asesinó a Agamenón, su esposo y padre de Electra y Orestes. Por tal motivo, Electra odia a su madre y desea ardientemente vengar a su padre. Pero Electra no comete el matricidio, ella instiga e induce a su hermano Orestes a ejecutarlo por ser él, el único descendiente masculino de la familia. Electra y Orestes aunque atormentados por las Furias que inducen la locura, lograron la victoria de vengar la muerte de su padre, Agamenón al matar a Clitemnestra y a su amante, el usurpador Egisto.
