In this episode, the children of Israel once again murmur and complain against the Lord. This time, we are told they murmured because they were discouraged.
Their discouragement caused them to rail against the Lord and Moses, to the point where they said they loathed the light bread. They hated the Manna and wondered why they were brought out of Egypt to die in the wilderness.
In response to their murmuring God sent fiery serpents into their midst; the serpents bit them and many died. Then they apologized to Moses, saying they sinned by speaking against him and the Lord, and they asked him to pray for them.
God answered his prayer and had Moses make a brass serpent. And whoever looked upon it was healed.
Jesus mentioned the brass serpent in John chapter 3 verses 14 and 15.
Here’s the text:
John 3:14 And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up:
John 3:15 That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life.
Jesus was beaten and fastened to a wooden cross that was lifted up on the earth, then he died.
Whoever looks upon Him will be healed from the serpent's deadly bite, the bite that causes all of us to die.
If we look upon Jesus, we will live, again. We will not perish but inherit eternal life.
In this chapter the children of Israel fought three battles. They won each battle, totally destroying their enemies.
In the first battle they defeated king Arad, a Canaanite king, after he captured some of them. But before going against him, the children of Israel made a vow to God, declaring if He delivered Arad and the Canaanites, into their hands, they would utterly destroy their cities.
They also fought against Sihon, king of the Amorites. The Israelites politely asked him if they could pass through his land. His answer was no. Then he gathered his army, marched out to meet the Israelites, to fight a battle he was destined to lose.
The also fought against Og, king of Bashan. But before they fought against Him. God encouraged his servant Moses by telling him, not to fear Og.
The children of Israel had a good reason to fear Og, because he was of the remnant of giants as noted in Deuteronomy chapter 3 verse 11.
Here’s the text:
Deuteronomy 3:11 For only Og king of Bashan remained of the remnant of giants; behold, his bedstead was a bedstead of iron; is it not in Rabbath of the children of Ammon? nine cubits was the length thereof, and four cubits the breadth of it, after the cubit of a man.
God told Moses not to fear Og of Bashan because he had delivered him, his sons and all his people and their land into his hand. It was already done, all the Israelites had to do was go up and fight.
We note that Moses defeated "his" Og of Bashan and destroyed his kingdom. And Christ defeated “his” Og of Bashan, and destroyed Satan’s kingdom.
In Psalms chapter 22, Christ spoke about the Bulls of Bashan.
Strong fierce bulls of Bashan came against him. They violently attacked him and killed him but he would use their violence against them.
He defeated them with their own weapon. Because through death, he destroyed the one who had the power of death.
Here’s what Christ revealed to David through the Holy Spirit about the Bulls of Bashan before it happened.

Psalms 22:12 Many bulls have compassed me: strong bulls of Bashan have beset me round.
Psalms 22:13 They gaped upon me with their mouths, as a ravening and a roaring lion.
Psalms 22:14 I am poured out like water, and all my bones are out of joint: my heart is like wax; it is melted in the midst of my bowels.
Psalms 22:15 My strength is dried up like a potsherd; and my tongue cleaveth to my jaws; and thou hast brought me into the dust of death.
Psalms 22:16 For dogs have compassed me: the assembly of the wicked have inclosed me: they pierced my hands and my feet.
Psalms 22:17 I may tell all my bones: they look and stare upon me.
Psalms 22:18 They part my garments among them, and cast lots upon my vesture.
Psalms 22:19 But be not thou far from me, O LORD: O my strength, haste thee to help me.
Psalms 22:20 Deliver my soul from the sword; my darling from the power of the dog.
Psalms 22:21 Save me from the lion's mouth: for thou hast heard me from the horns of the unicorns.
Psalms 22:22 I will declare thy name unto my brethren: in the midst of the congregation will I praise thee.
