Speaker 1 (00:00):
This is a special KJRFM sports presentation coming to you
live from the Virginia Mason Athletics Center. This is kjr
FM's non stunt coverage of Seahawks training camp, brought to
you by Northwest Handling Systems and the twenty twenty four
Bowing Classic Paugust fifth, thirty eleventh on your one and
only home for the twelfth Man Sports Radio ninety three
(00:23):
point three kjr FM.
Speaker 2 (00:27):
And here we are on a field side once again
on a Wednesday afternoon.
Speaker 3 (00:31):
I think this is day thirteen. Is that right? Day
thirteen of crime camp? Did I get right? He's up?
Speaker 4 (00:35):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (00:35):
Right there go Infnesced with the adjustments. Here Andrews back
of the studio. As we always do at this time
out here at training camp, we start with a Seahawks
player interview and I listen, man. Sometimes I've given you
guys a lot of in good interviews over the last
couple of weeks.
Speaker 3 (00:49):
Sometimes I gotta do something for myself. Gokooks, go.
Speaker 2 (00:55):
Uhas up. Winston Junior is here with us. You're gonna
watch him on Saturday. We're gonna talk about that in
a second, because I'm sure kickoff returns punt returns, he'll
be in that wide receiver rotation. He's a former coupe,
played on that great twenty eighteen team, played for the Pirate.
We'll talk about that in a second, but he's here
with us right now, and I think the story's great
(01:15):
for this reason. We were talking about this. Greg Bell,
who does works with the News Remain does the show
before me. You saw and you know we're kind of
talking about this. I'm always intrigued when teams keep bringing
guys back. Tyler Mabray's one of those guys practice squad
for an entire year. You're one of those guys. Feels
like you've been here for a while. You had the
one game last season, but practice squad, they keep bringing
(01:36):
you back. There's a reason they keep bringing you back.
What do these guys tell you why? Because you probably
were looking around, Hey, maybe maybe I'll sign someplace else
and get a shot somewhere else.
Speaker 3 (01:44):
Why do you think you're back here again?
Speaker 5 (01:46):
I just think it's I just think over the few
years that I've obviously been here, it's just been trying
to be as consistent as possible. Obviously it's a new staff,
but even before that, you know, had a great relationship
with them. I'm a West Coast guy, obviously go cools
into Washington State. But I just think it come down
just to the consistency. I feel like I've kind of
(02:07):
just kind of found my stride in the league and
just been taking it a lot more serious than I
ever have since I've been in Seattle, and I think,
you know, the staff might see that, and you know,
I just try to do my part, you know, make
sure everything on my end is, you know, what's good,
so you know, you know, they don't have any reason
to do. You know, obviously anything can happen, but I
(02:29):
just try to make sure since I've been here that
I do everything I can and make sure I can
I can stick around.
Speaker 3 (02:35):
You're and you're I'm gonna talk about the kickoffs and
all that stuff.
Speaker 2 (02:37):
I think it's be fun for fans to watch everything
on Saturday, and really nobody knows what to expect in
a lot of ways. But we'll get to that in
your role in a second. This is kind of who
you are though, right Like, I mean, not a ton
of offers coming out of high school.
Speaker 3 (02:49):
Kind of a late bloomer right then.
Speaker 2 (02:51):
JC at San Francisco Community College where seems to be
the pipeline for for Mike teaches takes over the years,
right and then and then Pullman where you had a
couple of Eastern Michigan and Wazoo and now here you're
battling for a roster spots. It's just this is your
lot in life, right, I'm sure you keep.
Speaker 5 (03:07):
Yeah, yes, I mean I'm used to it at this point,
you know, always being a diamond in the rough. But
to be honest, I'm fine with that, you know what
I'm saying, because it's it's always sweeter when you get
to end of the road knowing that you had to
you know, you know, do everything you could, you know,
to get to a certain point.
Speaker 3 (03:23):
You know.
Speaker 5 (03:24):
So this has become my life and obviously been through
it a bunch of times, even before the NFL, even
in high school, like you said, no offers, you have
to go to Juco route, you know. So I'm fine
with you know, I'm fine with that, you know what
I'm saying. I've always been grinding to, you know, get
to where I ultimately am today. You know a lot
of people, you know, growing up didn't even think I
would be here. So you know, so now that I'm here.
(03:45):
It's all surprised, but you know, I know the work
I put in and I know where I want it
to be. So it's it's definitely a blessing.
Speaker 2 (03:52):
You had to have a lot of support through along
the way, and I'm sure that comes from your family.
You're not even I mean, you're an NFL player, you've
played an NFL regular season games, but you're not even
the most popular or at least in terms of social
media person in your family. It's your mom tell us
about that.
Speaker 5 (04:08):
Yeah, yeah, so my mom's, uh, she's a pastor. You know,
I grew up, I grew up in a spiritual household.
So yeah, my mom's been pastoring since I was twelve thirteen,
traveling all across the world for you know, going to
different churches here and there. She's literally always on a flight.
I could call her right now, I don't know where
she's gonna be. So like, you know, you know, she's
(04:30):
gained a lot of notoriety through that, and so yeah,
that's kind of where the Instagram following came from. And
you know, obviously I'm the late bloomer in the league,
you know what I'm saying. Whatever, But like I said,
I'm perfectly fine with you know, her being the celebrity
of the family. It takes a lot of pressure off me,
which I'm completely fine with.
Speaker 2 (04:45):
But she's doing all that winter junior with us. If
she's doing all that, she must be really good and
special what she does. I mean, I know you'd be
real use I can see how proud you are of
in your voice. What is it about your mom that
that people just kind of gravitate towards.
Speaker 5 (04:59):
I just I think it's her energy and like the
love she has for me and my sister, you know,
just all our life. She's just been There is one
one moment in my life that sticks out to me.
My high school. We had a senior day in high school,
like you know when the parents walk you out as
your last high school game as a senior or whatever.
And she was actually had a preaching engagement that she
(05:22):
had to speak at two days before, and she called
me the night before and she was like, I'm gonna
try to make it, but you know, no promises. You know,
your dad and your uncle and everybody will be there.
And right before my name was called, she was running
through the parking lot to come out and walk me
out and I'll never forget that. And that's just who
she is as a person. She's gonna be there for kids,
and that's that's the number one person in my life
(05:43):
for sure.
Speaker 3 (05:43):
I read somewhere she's not fond of tattoo. Somebody tattoos?
You got, No, she's not fine. I mean she knows
about them all. Now.
Speaker 5 (05:50):
I mean I can't I'm not gonna I can't remove him.
I'm not gonna move. So you know, she's fine with
it now though they're meaningful, and you know, I just
wasn't gonna put anything on my by so she likes him.
Speaker 2 (06:01):
My daughter's a school teacher. She's got a whole bunch.
She went to Wazoo and I looked at her, girl,
what are you putting that stuff on?
Speaker 6 (06:06):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (06:07):
You got to be killing me. I feel what she's saying.
Speaker 2 (06:13):
Uh, you played for Mike Leach, the late great Mike Leach,
who just passed away a year and a half ago.
And you know, the the impact he made in college
football was massive. There's gonna be a push. I'm I'm
hoping not just from Washington State. I hope Texas Tech
put some stuff aside and helps and then obviously Mississippi
State as well to get him into the College Football
(06:33):
Hall Fame.
Speaker 3 (06:33):
He's like one win shy of it. It's just the
dumbest thing in the world.
Speaker 2 (06:37):
But what was it like playing for from Mike Leach?
What was it like in that program?
Speaker 3 (06:41):
For him? He's just a legend, but he's also so eccentric.
Speaker 5 (06:43):
It's what was like as a player, It was it
was wonderful, you know, you know, you know, growing up
and just hearing so much about him and never ever
thinking that I would play for a coach like that.
Just to be you know, a part of something like
that was just wonderful. And he just you know, one
of the things he preached was just being consistent, you
know I'm saying, and that's just that's one of the
things I took with me, you know, as a life
(07:04):
lesson is just waking up every day, treating every day
as it is, and just being consistent, not looking too
far ahead. And that's one thing I definitely remember that
he taught me, you know, for my few years there,
and just like him even give me opportunity to play
at Washington State. You know, I dreamed about playing the
Pac twelve and he was the only coach that gave
an offer, So obviously that was big for me. So
(07:24):
I'm all forever indebted to him for you know, you know,
handing me out that offer. But he was just he
was just a great person all in all. You can
go to him for anything. He kind of didn't know
what he was gonna say sometimes, but he was definitely
unpredictable in that way. You know, his mind wandered a lot,
but you know what I'm saying, it was always great,
you know, to pick his brain about different things.
Speaker 3 (07:43):
I don't think could you find a more polar opposite
between your college coach then with Mike Leach and your
current head coach in the NFL and Mike McDonald, No.
Speaker 5 (07:53):
There's there's literally it's like night and day. It doesn't
get anything like Leech like he's literally a one of one.
There's nobody that compares to them. And that's I think
that's what a lot of people appreciated about.
Speaker 3 (08:05):
What's Mike McDonald.
Speaker 2 (08:05):
You played for Pete and and Pete's one of the
great coaches in the history of the game college or NFL.
Uh And then he moves on and they bring in
Mike McDonald's a defensive mind.
Speaker 3 (08:15):
But you're in the meetings with him, what's he like.
Speaker 5 (08:17):
I think he's just he's just he's just super intelligent
on that side of the ball. And obviously like he's new,
so he's you know, trying to get you acclimated to,
you know, the head coaching job. But I would just
say he's just he's extremely intelligent. You know, he knows
what he's doing on that side of the ball. And
I think he just he's bringing us, He's bringing us
together as a team a lot. And I'm excited, you know,
(08:39):
for the year and just to see how, you know,
we pan out. Obviously we have a lot of talent.
But I think Mike, you know, he's a hard nosed
guy too. You know, he's gonna tell us when we're wrong.
You know, he's gonna you know, tell us obviously when
we're right or whatever. But he's definitely gonna be honest.
You know what I'm saying. Everything we do, he's critiquing it.
You know, he's gonna tell you. But at the end
of the day, it's just to make us all better.
Is it a more physical can then last year?
Speaker 6 (09:02):
No?
Speaker 3 (09:02):
I think it. It might be.
Speaker 5 (09:04):
It might be, but I'm definitely I'm definitely feeling feeling
it feels like watching watching it, definitely feeling it after practice.
But like I said, like that's just how Mike is.
When we get to the season, it's gonna it's gonna
be a lot easier because we prepared ourselves for that
during camp. So I think it'll be good for us.
Speaker 3 (09:21):
All Right, So you got an offensive coordinator who's a Husky.
Uh you know, I mean, you're.
Speaker 2 (09:25):
All Seahawks now, But I'm listen, I'm I'm I have
a Heisman vote. I voted for Panics last year, paying
me but the best part of the country. But I
think he was because of this offensive coordinator. What do
you what do you think of Ryan Grubb?
Speaker 5 (09:37):
I love r G Man. You know he's coming and
he's put he's putting a great plan for us. He's
putting everybody in a position to be successful on the
offense side.
Speaker 3 (09:46):
Of the ball. He wants to push it down.
Speaker 5 (09:48):
Yeah, he definitely wants to push it down the field.
We're throwing it a lot. But I think you know,
he's getting our running backs tight ends. Everybody's going to
be involved, and I think that's that's the beauty of
of of what everybody's going.
Speaker 3 (09:59):
To see season.
Speaker 2 (10:00):
Your role east off is gonna be as a wide
receiver if you're on the fifty three man, but also
in that specialty teams as well. Yeah, let's first talk
about kickoffs. Do you even know what to expect from
it comes Saturday?
Speaker 5 (10:13):
Nah, I really don't. Obviously, you know, you have the
one preseason game with Houston and uh I forgot Houston
and Chicago. I watched a little bit of it, so
it was interesting to see. Obviously we haven't did it yet,
you know, come Saturday, we will, but I don't know.
I think it'll be a lot of explosives from from
the from the return, from the return game, to be honest,
And obviously, you know, the kickoff team can't move and
(10:35):
everybody's five yards away, so it's like close contact and
understand you know, they're trying to, you know, make it
safer for us. But it'll be interesting to see. I
really don't know what it is fit you though? Does
it fit who you are? I will say so, Yeah,
I will say so. And at the end of the day,
my mindset is anything I could do to help help
my team win, So I'm excited to see how it goes.
Speaker 2 (10:54):
I assume pumping returns or something you can do as well,
and you're gonna be that they've done in the NFL
for sure. So we'll see you doing that on Saturday.
Most definitely, most definitely. Yeah, I'll be out there. You
might see me at gunn or you might see me
returning kicks. You might you might see me blocking a
kickoff return. So I'm just ready to do it all Saturday.
I got one more for you before I let you go.
I talked about the eccentric guy named Mike Leech. You
(11:15):
also played with a quarterback that would fit that category
as well. What was it like with Gardner? I mean
he put up massive numbers for receiver. You couldn't ask
for anything Moore right, and you had a deep, wide
receiver room. But what was that dude?
Speaker 5 (11:27):
Like, I think it's just the impact he had. You know,
he wasn't there for long, and just the impact he
had on like not only the football team, but the
whole entire school. Had him wear a mustache. It's just
like I've never seen anything like that. Just to be
there for that, it was definitely and everything. Yeah, for sure,
it brought life back like he brought life back to that,
(11:47):
to that culture, uh, and to that school.
Speaker 3 (11:50):
You know.
Speaker 5 (11:50):
I still talk to him from time to time, wishing
the best of looking in Las Vegas and that that's
my form.
Speaker 3 (11:57):
Yeah, in Vegas, like anything better than that? Right, Yeah,
you're right, you'll probably be doing a show at some point.
I wouldn't be surprised. I would.
Speaker 2 (12:08):
I'm rooting for it, buddy. Go get them on that,
Go get them on Saturday and through the preseason. I mean,
you've been here for a long time. There's a reason
for that. I think you've had a hell of a camp.
And I'm not saying that just because. I mean, if
you didn't, probably wouldn't ask you to come on today.
But I think you've really jumped out and it feels
like you feel you've found your comfort.
Speaker 3 (12:24):
Zone in the passing game for sure.
Speaker 2 (12:25):
Yeah, So go get them and at some point you're
gonna have more Instagram followers and your mom.
Speaker 5 (12:30):
Yeah, I don't know.
Speaker 3 (12:31):
I don't know when.
Speaker 7 (12:37):
That is.
Speaker 3 (12:38):
Winsday, Junior, where is number thirteen?
Speaker 2 (12:39):
You'll watch him on Saturday, returning kicks, catching passes and
and all that for the Seahawks against the Chargers.
Speaker 3 (12:45):
Down in l A. Going to get a couple X
coops down there too. Yeah, that's gonna be fun.
Speaker 5 (12:49):
Yeah, that's gonna.
Speaker 3 (12:50):
Tell those guys to take it easy because we're on
the defensive side.
Speaker 5 (12:52):
Huh right, right, that's gonna be fun.
Speaker 3 (12:54):
I appreciate coming bye. Thank you so much, Thank you
so much. Thanks for having me. Goku.
Speaker 2 (12:59):
That is instant Junior joining us here on the Beacon
Plumbing hot Line. Love hav him come by. He's just
been a guy that's been a joy to be around.
And you know I heard about that, you know, Jess
when you were in when you're covering these team and
uh and on the sideline and you were there at
twenty eighteen when you know that team was so good.
He's a guy that always seems to bring life and
(13:20):
and there's I don't know what his role is on
this football team and and what his role is going
to be if there is one on the fifty three man.
But like we were talking with Greg earlier, there's guys
and we may or may not get Tyler mabray on tomorrow.
Tyler Mabury's kind of one of those guys too. Miles
Adams is one of those guys too that that you
know and and that are kind of in and out
of the lineup. Sometimes they're playing, sometimes they're not. Sometimes
(13:41):
they're active, sometimes they're not, or even most of the
time on the practice squad. Maybury and esauper practice squad
guys for two years basically, and but they.
Speaker 3 (13:48):
Keep bringing them back.
Speaker 2 (13:50):
So you bring a guy back to there's a reason
they bring guys back that are just fringe players. And
you know Miles Adams is he was on with the
Morning Show this morning. It's kind of caught my attention.
That's why IM want to get he's up on because
those are the stories of training camp. Those are the
guys he kind of are are waiting to see that.
You know, what can they do? I think if I
(14:10):
was and we're gonna talk to Curtis at one, We're
gonna do a little Roscar roulette. I'm gonna guess right
now he's on the outside looking in barring injuries. But
I'm also gonna assume that when he does, if he
doesn't make the fifty three, he's gonna be on the
practice squad again. And he's a guy that can easily
call up and bring up and down he's going to
sell because of the kick returnability. And but that's gonna
(14:31):
be huge for him to have that opportunity, just for
a practice squad opportunity, which I think he'll have here
or somewhere else. He's gonna have to shine in special teams.
He's gonna have to show something in the kickoff game.
He's gonna have to show something in the punt returns.
And this team desperately needs someone that can return punts
at a better rate than what they've had. And you know,
it was kind of a I mean we picked on
(14:51):
I picked on and a couple of us in the media,
especially in the press box, picked on DJ Dallas a lot.
I mean, he was the fair catch king, you know,
of fact, why I see Brian Walters walking around here
doing some work on the media, And Brian Walters was
the king of the fair.
Speaker 6 (15:03):
Catch And I mean he could only do what he
was told well, and that was and DJ.
Speaker 2 (15:07):
Dallas is the same way. And listening to Jay Harbaugh
the other day, he spoke yesterday, right, yeah, yesterday, Uh,
the special teams coach for the Seahawks, and he was asked,
you know, what's the most important thing, and is it.
You know, ball security is it? You know, break you
know is it? You know, breakaway speed is it? You know,
make you miss? It's first and foremost, it's always it's
(15:29):
ball security, which is whatever, because you the last thing
you want to do is you know, defense forces a
punt and turn it back over. I get that, But
at some point in that game, you've got to give
yourself some field position and you've got to make some plays.
And I think this guy can do it. We know
this guy can do it. The Viscushnald in the kickoff
game I think can do it as well. I do
believe they've got options. D Es Gridge, I think is
(15:51):
and I like d We had a conversation with him, Yeah,
we had a conversation with him in mini camp.
Speaker 3 (15:56):
He was awesome.
Speaker 2 (15:57):
But you know, if we're just kind of handicapping and again,
we'll do it kind of one o'clock today. I think
d Skridge is on the outside looking in for sure.
Uh And and so it's special teams when you're watching
preseason games, will be will be big along the way
we will come.
Speaker 6 (16:11):
Yes, I was just gonna add to Es up just
because I got to watch him in his college career.
Is one of the biggest things is when he got
the ball in whatever position he was in, his get off,
as soon he was pumped and loaded, and you know
in college, you know sometimes it's like wait.
Speaker 8 (16:27):
Wait, wait, wait, catch.
Speaker 6 (16:28):
He just had such an amazing burst as soon as
the ball was in his possession.
Speaker 8 (16:33):
But he didn't mess up. He didn't run and then catch.
You know, he he waited, but.
Speaker 3 (16:39):
The pirate could not.
Speaker 6 (16:41):
But he was a step ahead. And I had plenty
of opportunities because Up had made some amazing plays throughout
the time that he was there. When I was covering him.
I talked to Mike Leach about him and it carries
over though he's elevated that ability into the.
Speaker 8 (16:55):
Pro ranks, and I think that is why he sticks.
And what I.
Speaker 6 (16:58):
Really like is the fact that from Pete now over Tom,
Mike McDonald, that he's still here, that he is an invite,
that he doesn't just stick around, that they're looking at him,
and I just I love him because obviously he's.
Speaker 8 (17:12):
A fantastic personality. You know, we love him.
Speaker 6 (17:14):
He's got a good head on my shoulders, good family,
good upbringing. But he knows his role and it reminds
me of Brady Russell talking to you the other day uncutable.
Speaker 3 (17:23):
Yeah, there's another there's another guy. There's just that the
fringe guys, the fringe stories, they're they're not going to
make the headlines during the course of the season, but
they're the good stories and the guys you kind of
root for. Yeah, Brady Russell's another guy. Uh that that
we had a chance to talk.
Speaker 8 (17:35):
Go back and listen to that interview. Man, it was
on Monday.
Speaker 3 (17:38):
He was a fantastic he was fun.
Speaker 2 (17:40):
But those Yeah, there's there's guys you bring back because
there's a familiarity. And I think Russell's on the team.
By the way, I don't think there's any uh.
Speaker 3 (17:46):
I don't think there's any doubt Brady.
Speaker 4 (17:48):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (17:49):
I mean he does everything for you. He's a number
two long snapper, He's he just he does a lot
of stuff for you. All right, coming up on the show,
and we got to get to the Mariners coming up
in the next segment. All were we going back and
fourth last night Andrews or what?
Speaker 4 (18:01):
Holy oh?
Speaker 2 (18:02):
Yes, it's all about analytics, my friend. The debate about analytics.
Speaker 9 (18:08):
Right, analytics, Let's be completely honest, No.
Speaker 3 (18:11):
And and here's the thing. Well, we'll get into the
next segment.
Speaker 2 (18:14):
I I see people blame it Scott's Service for yesterday
and and for that loss. That's not where the blame goes.
We'll say where it don't. We'll tell you where it
goes coming up in the next segment. You know, there's
certain losses that sting a little bit more. That one
certainly was near the top of the list. It was
no good, nothing good about that last night. But they
(18:34):
got another chance to night. But tonight they got they
like they had the picture last night that they had
to beat. Now they go against the guy that probably
he's probably gonna win the science Seattle University. Let's go
not that, not the University of Seattle, yes, but actually
(18:55):
Seattle University. So we'll talk about that and we come
back in just a couple of seconds. Uhur Raptree's going
to join us at one o'clock today. Jamie Binnick from
kok Fan will join us at two. All coming up
on Oh and when we come back, I gotta tell
you about the trigger, the not trigger, the Pelican girl
we're giving away. We'll tell you about that coming back
next to ninety three point three KJFM.
Speaker 4 (19:16):
No our nons Dot coverage.
Speaker 1 (19:18):
Joe Seahawks training camp continues from the Virginia Mason Athletics Center,
brought to you by Northwest Handling Systems and the twenty
twenty four Boeing Classic.
Speaker 4 (19:27):
Gaga's fifth through the eleven.
Speaker 1 (19:29):
Now back to Ian Furness on Sports Radio ninety three
point three kJ r FM.
Speaker 2 (19:39):
We were back at the Virginia Mason Athletics Center, day thirteen.
Speaker 3 (19:45):
I do believe it is for training camp, that is correct.
Speaker 2 (19:48):
I'm guessing it's another kid's day, although I feel like
every day's a kid's day because it's a good thing for.
Speaker 4 (19:53):
Kids to come to.
Speaker 8 (19:53):
Ran day. It's a fan day.
Speaker 3 (19:55):
It well, they got the mascots here. That's why I
sapped that.
Speaker 8 (19:57):
That's also my mascot day.
Speaker 3 (19:58):
It's we've got what we got Tode. We got the Dubs,
the Husky mascot.
Speaker 8 (20:03):
We do obviously. We have Blitz.
Speaker 2 (20:05):
Blitz is here. We've got Thunderbirds, Yeah, cool birds here.
Lincoln's here from the Tips, the indoor football teams here here,
Booie is here from the Kraken. Yeah, they're all here entertaining.
Speaker 8 (20:17):
All the hockeys are.
Speaker 3 (20:18):
All the hockeys.
Speaker 2 (20:19):
We get all the hockeys, every hockey imaginable is here today.
So we're all here for this. So coming up on
Friday on the radio show, we'll get to the Mariners
here in a second. But coming up on Friday on
the radio program, we are gonna give away You're gonna
like this. We're gonna give away a grill, a pellet
grill from Rich's home. Okay, now here's what we're doing.
We've we've been pretty good about telling you exactly how
(20:41):
this works. But let me do it again. And we'll
mention this again later in the show. But coming up
on coming up on Friday, we're gonna ask you a question,
and there's gonna be four questions actually, and if you
get it right texted us in you'll be enter to
win a green Mountain pellet grill from Riches for the
home visit any of Rich's six inspiring showrooms for the Northwest,
largest selection at outdoor Furniture, hot tubs, fireplaces, and outdoor
(21:03):
Grills Richest home dot Com. I mean, like a thousand
dollars grill, smoker, et cetera. That's an awesome deal. Awesome deal,
especially hitting in the fall Yeah, summer's almost over, but
I don't know football fall tailgating backyard, getting ready to
watch football day on Saturday and Sunday.
Speaker 3 (21:20):
Can you get anything better than that? No?
Speaker 2 (21:21):
Note, especially when it's frie because you've won it. How
do you win it? It's pretty simple. On Friday, I'm
gonna ask you four questions. Those four questions are going
to be who we had on at a certain point Monday,
and I'll just give you a hint noon on Monday,
who we had on yesterday at one one pm on Tuesday.
I'm gonna ask you who the cougar we had on
(21:42):
yet today was at high noon? Okay, that would be
Esop Winston Junior. By the way, write it down. So
anders let's do the exercise one more time. Okay, Anderson
Hurst is gonna text in? What are you gonna text in?
Speaker 9 (21:57):
I'm gonna text in Andershurst. My name rights, It's spelled
the same. So let's see what was Monday? Now, I forget.
Speaker 3 (22:13):
Brady Brady.
Speaker 8 (22:15):
He has two quarterbacks names.
Speaker 2 (22:16):
Not not Tom Brady, Brady Russell.
Speaker 9 (22:22):
Brady Russell. That's right, okay, Brady Russell on Monday?
Speaker 2 (22:26):
Who was our guest at noon on Monday. Brady Russell, Okay,
who was.
Speaker 3 (22:31):
Our guest Tuesday at.
Speaker 9 (22:33):
One o'clock Tuesday, one o'clock that was uh MLB guy. Yes,
Jason Stark.
Speaker 3 (22:44):
Thank you very much. Good who was our guest at
noon today?
Speaker 9 (22:47):
Winston? So that's what we're making.
Speaker 2 (22:50):
So we're making you earn it because even Andrews, who
was running the show could remember.
Speaker 9 (22:54):
So so that's good.
Speaker 3 (22:57):
But that's good.
Speaker 2 (22:58):
This is I mean, you need earned this. So Brady Russell,
Jason Stark, Issop Winston Jr. Your first three answers. We'll
have one more tomorrow and then Friday will give away
the grill again. Curtisy at Riches Home Riches home dot com,
so make sure you listen. And that's coming up on Friday.
We'll be at the BOINT Classic by the way on
Friday checking things out as well.
Speaker 9 (23:16):
Don Textan Now Textan saw that, Yes, I saw that
doing it on Friday for the whole week before that.
Speaker 2 (23:24):
I want we'll get to Connor Williams in just a
little bit more so with Curtis, just a quick touching
on that offensives alignement. The Center from Miami suffered an
ACL tear last December.
Speaker 3 (23:35):
They say at least his agent does that he's ready
to go.
Speaker 2 (23:37):
The Seahawks did perform a physical on him when he
came and visited last week. Said it was all good.
He's behind obviously offensively and learning the offense. But he'll
be here. I don't know if it'd be on the
field today or not, but uh, and certainly wouldn't expect
him to play on Saturday. But a couple with indictment
on a couple of things there. One would be on
Olu a Timmy and the other one would be the
(23:59):
fact that don't have a backup center to him. Nick
Harris isn't the guy, And so it's they're gonna go
out and they're gonna upgrade the position. And I'm a
little surprised that older Timmy didn't see the opportunity, but
he obviously didn't even though they haven't played a game,
but they've had enough one on one pass rush drills
and scrimmages and eleven on eleven's and all that stuff,
and they decided to make a move. So that's what's
(24:20):
going on there. More on that with Curtis coming up
at one o'clock, we do a little roster roulette. Let's
get to the and I don't the Brendan and a
yuch stuff. To be honest with you, I just didn't
wake me up when it's over. It's until then.
Speaker 8 (24:33):
Just I'm all for San Francisco bleeding talent.
Speaker 3 (24:36):
Like that's fine, well, and just let him be dysfunctional.
It's good.
Speaker 8 (24:39):
I like it, Yes, exactly.
Speaker 2 (24:41):
Let's get to the baseball team, shall we. Mariners didn't
have a great start. They lost four two to Detroit
in the first of three. There there's a lot of consternation, criticism,
people upset because and here's the thing.
Speaker 3 (24:54):
You're a sports fan. When you lose, you get mad.
I get that, we all get that.
Speaker 2 (24:57):
And so event so what do you event you're venting
to vent somewhere and not at you know, necessarily not
into the abyss, but just you get a vent somewhere. Well,
in this case, the venting goes right to wait for it,
Scott Service. That was kind of the big thing last night.
The big thing they were venting was Mitch Garver pinched
eating for Luke Rayley. Final at bat of the game.
(25:19):
Mitch Garver had a classic Mitch Garver at bat, three
pitches struck out.
Speaker 3 (25:22):
Thanks for coming games over.
Speaker 2 (25:24):
But let's take a step back, and Anders will tell
you why they should have pinched it for Rayley for
Garver in a minute anyway, But let's just take a
step back. Make no mistake, Let's not lose sight of
what the real issue was yesterday. The real issue was
a fact that they scored wait for it, one run,
one run through eight and two thirds innings against the
(25:47):
Detroit Tigers and the starting pitcher that came in with
an ERA close to seven.
Speaker 3 (25:52):
That was the issue. Guys.
Speaker 2 (25:53):
Yeah, Luis Castill gave you a quality start. He gave
you a chance to win. The reason you lost was
not because Mitch Garver struck out on three pitches and
was pinch hit and got pinchit for Luke Grayley, who
had the only run earlier with a solo shot. No,
the reason they lost is because their offense had four
(26:14):
hits in the ball game. Yes, technically they had five.
They had four people they had four because the fifth
hit was a fly ball by Polanco to deep center
field that the center fielder and the right fielder decided
to look at each other and watch a drop between them.
It was reminiscent of the White Sox series. Yes, which,
(26:35):
by the way, they had some bonus points for those
games because both the White Sox series and their one
win against Boston in Boston at Fenway Park were strictly
because of pork play in the field. They couldn't benefit
and they couldn't take advantage this time. But four hits
against the Tigers and now they go against the probable
(26:57):
Cy Young Award winner tonight. So yes, Trek Scouble's gonna
be dealing tonight. I mean, great pitching matchup, a great
pitching matchup tonight. First team to one wins. But you
you we the blaming of Scott's service that I saw
on social media last night was somewhat mind boggling to me.
Speaker 9 (27:16):
Andrews, Yeah, I completely agree. I just don't see why
and the whole Oh he needs to, you know, managed
by feel way more than he does with the analytics.
Putting a guy that is obviously struggling in a situation
that he feels more comfortable, and that would be Mitch
Garver against a left handed reliever, right, I think is
(27:37):
managing with more fuel than it is with analytics, to
be honest, right, more analytics driven would be okay, Luke Rayley,
maybe isn't great against left handed pitchers, but he has
a certain matchup advantage in this situation. That's more of
an analytics focused situation, but I think I was actually
the perfect situation to bring Mitch Garver into.
Speaker 3 (27:56):
Right.
Speaker 9 (27:57):
Yeah, like it didn't work out, but he's way more
comfortable batting against left handed hitters or pitchers. Excuse me
as an eight hundred oh ps against lefties. I know
that's not everything, but you know if he is does
come through there, that you know breaks him out of
the slump. And I think the response would have been
crazy from Mariners fans.
Speaker 6 (28:16):
So well, yeah, and all Hail Scott's service were doing.
Speaker 3 (28:19):
Right, exactly right, right, Well, I mean.
Speaker 2 (28:23):
I think I would have questioned it more even with
the numbers saying that Garver statistically, not deep analytics stats,
but just statistically, Garver would have fared better against the
left hander.
Speaker 3 (28:36):
Right.
Speaker 2 (28:37):
I think I would have questioned it more if Mitch
Garver wasn't the tying run of the ballgame at the plate,
and say the tying run was at third base, run
was a second, Okay, then I would have gone, yeah,
maybe we just go with the guy that had the
home run earlier. And has come through with some big
(28:57):
hits this season. Maybe we stick with that guy because
we're ninety feet away. Maybe they're gonna be more careful
with him, you know, maybe there's a chance that ball
gets buried in the dirt and we tie the game
up in that way, like I I think, I but
remember he was the tying run.
Speaker 3 (29:11):
At the plate.
Speaker 2 (29:12):
And oh, by the way, Polanco, great hustle by you
to get to first Like, great hustle by you, Polonko.
My god, I listen. It didn't matter in the grand
scheme of things. But you send a fly ball to center,
there's two outs, and you walk down to first base.
You should have been on second at the bare minimum, absolutely,
because then all of a sudden, at least you take
the force out. No, no, no, we're just gonna coast into first.
(29:36):
But let's just go back to the Garber thing for
a second. Yeah, you're the tying run and you're at
the plate, you come through the first of all he
would have It would take an extra base hit for
him to score a run.
Speaker 3 (29:47):
Just to pull you within one.
Speaker 2 (29:49):
So that's that's why I kind of go back to
the third base, even maybe second base. If the tying
runs in the scoring position thing. But if he does
bang out a hit and give you some life and
you already had that chance. Maybe the bigger picture is
a guy who's gonna he's gonna catch tonight. He's gonna
be in the lineup tonight. Yes, because Kirby's on the mound.
Maybe that gives him a little jump start. Yeah, and
(30:11):
maybe that does something. You lost the game, man, You'd
already lost the game. Hell, you should have lost it
on the previous at bat.
Speaker 4 (30:16):
Yep.
Speaker 3 (30:16):
This is not a.
Speaker 2 (30:17):
Blame Scott Service thing. We do live in a world
and I'm guilty of it. I think almost every sports
fan is at some point. We do live in a
world of anti analytics, mostly because we don't understand them, right.
That's That's a big reason, and for being honest with ourselves.
That's why I'm kind of anti analytics. I'm a I'm
a big let's you know, how's the game feel?
Speaker 8 (30:36):
Especially just so make well.
Speaker 3 (30:38):
But even in hockey it drives me insane.
Speaker 2 (30:40):
Yeah, it drives me insane because I think it's a
tryhard sport and sometimes we lean too much on some
of the numbers that really don't make sense, Like I
can tell you if a guy's going in the corner hard.
I can tell you if a guy is good on
the fore chat right, not because of what the analytics
tell me.
Speaker 3 (30:52):
It's because I can watch how he plays. But sometimes
we lean up too deeply in those.
Speaker 2 (30:55):
In fact, I mean there's a criticism of the crack
and might hit it one forty five guards to how
much they do use that. It was he came out
in the athletic today. But in this case with this
like Anderson, it wasn't analytics. It was it was basic stats.
He's a better hitter against a lefty and the bigger pitcher.
Could have been spectacular. It could have been spectacular. Instead,
(31:16):
you kick a game. You're still a half game up.
Now you gotta go against the Cy Young Award favorite
and maybe number two favorites, a guy on the mountains
opposing him tight, and away you go. You had four
hits in the ball game. I'm not gonna count number five.
You had four hits in the ball game. That's why
you lost the game. Not because of Scott's service. You
lost the game because he had four hits against the
Detroit Tigers and the pitcher who came in with an
(31:37):
era close to seven and a record of one and six. Right,
that's why you lost it. Absolutely, that's why you lost
the game, all right, four nine, four or five one?
Tell them who text Lignement his game time to time,
We'll reset the day, come back, tell you what else
is going on in the world of sports, and then
check in with Curtis coming up at one o'clock on
ninety three point three KJRFM.
Speaker 4 (31:56):
Now, were Nuns up? Coverage joke?
Speaker 1 (31:58):
Seahawks training camp could nues from the Virginia Mason Athletics Center,
brought to you by Northwest Handling Systems and the twenty
twenty four Boeing Classic gauga's fifth through the eleven. Now
back to Ian Furness on Sports Radio ninety three point
three kJ r FM.
Speaker 2 (32:18):
Hey, we're back at the Virginia Mason Athletics Center on
a Wednesday afternoon. Some of the players making their way
out on the field early for I leave a one
fifteen start or so for practice. Our guy Esop Winston
Junior among those out there catching punts early on from
the jugs.
Speaker 3 (32:36):
Gun.
Speaker 9 (32:37):
I was gonna ask you, is there a defined different
skill in punt returning versus kick returning.
Speaker 2 (32:43):
There is now Okay, there is now, and but Jay
Harbaugh was asked about that yesterday and he didn't really
have an answer. Okay, like we have sitting there later
now and he's like, well, and that's kind of what
it is, and like es Up said the same thing.
The guy's been in the league since twenty nineteen. Yeah,
twenty twenty, I guess, and you know has returned kicks
in the regular season and and a ton of the preseason.
Speaker 3 (33:03):
And he's like, yeah, I don't know, it's.
Speaker 2 (33:04):
It's you know, it's It's interesting that he mentioned it too,
because I think that's two or three players we've talked
to that have said that they watched that awful game
from Canton, Ohio last Thursday that was that was just
I mean, nobody played in it. Brett Rippen had four
touchdowns or something. It looked like an All American but
they but they watched it because they're all trying to
figure out what the kickoff is going to look, right,
(33:25):
And that was the first time we kind of saw
it in the NFL, at least up close.
Speaker 3 (33:29):
There's a skill set.
Speaker 2 (33:30):
Jason Myers is like, there's a skill set you got
to put it right where you want to put it.
Speaker 3 (33:34):
It comes goes the end zone.
Speaker 2 (33:35):
I think it goes with what the thirty right, So
you want to put it, you know, somewhere inside the
five and give those guys a chance. And I think
I think for kickoff returns, you do want a guy
that's got a little bit of jam in terms of power.
Speaker 3 (33:50):
Yeah, that's where I think.
Speaker 2 (33:52):
That's where I think a chanal to a Macintosh or
someone like that that kind of could kind of step up.
I think with Estop he's more of a shifty guy
than on a punt return. Yeah, there's gonna be the
punt return. First, guy's gotta miss, you know, the gunner.
You gotta make a gunner miss, right, And I think
that's where guys like Esop or d s Ridge over
the years, I think that's where they can have some success.
But again it's it's wait and see on the kickoffs.
Speaker 3 (34:15):
It really is. It's a true wait and see on
the kickoffs.
Speaker 6 (34:17):
They blatantly tell us that any guy who's on special
teams who sat down with us is like, I don't know, man,
you tell me, Yeah, I.
Speaker 2 (34:23):
Mean I'm watching so right now for kickoffs, I'm watching
Cody White, Kenny Mackintosh, what's oh Dee Williams, the rookie
out of Tennessee. And then on punts, it's Eskridge and
Winston are catching punch right now, so they've got two
jug guns going now. Winston also was doing kickoffs a
(34:45):
minute ago. He moved over the punt, so you know,
I'm assuming on and I know Trey Brown did something
on on Sun Saturday on kickoff returns. I just can't
fathom them putting their starting cornerback back there for kickoff
return I just I have to think if they do
that that that's like a desperation move. Someone gets hurt
(35:08):
in the game. But I mean, Trey Brown's a massive
piece to this puzzle this year, Like he is going
to play most games, He's going to play eighty five percent.
Speaker 3 (35:18):
I'd bark at him too, Doggy, bark at that guy.
Speaker 8 (35:22):
Ton't bark at that dude too.
Speaker 2 (35:25):
There's no reason I wouldn't bark at that guy. But yeah,
I think I think that's what you're gonna see along
the way. So we'll see, we'll see how it is. Hey,
not often the defensive coordinator walks by what's going on?
Speaker 3 (35:36):
Come by and say hi. They he's going over to
tell them play what music to play.
Speaker 2 (35:40):
Maybe we're but yeah, I think I think the skill set,
honestly is is still TBA for kickoffs andres.
Speaker 3 (35:46):
I really do like the CBA for kickoffs. If the soft.
Speaker 2 (35:51):
He's driving and listening, I know he and others just
absolutely hate the preseason. I mean, I get that it's
not for everybody, but I think preseason football, at least
for your teams will be fun to watch, just to
see who's doing what.
Speaker 3 (36:03):
I think that'll be kind of fun.
Speaker 2 (36:04):
So we'll get back to the Mariners at one thirty today.
Chris Craptree's gonna come back. Andrew's gonna give you some stats.
Speaker 9 (36:09):
Some numbers, some numbers, analytics, just basic stats.
Speaker 2 (36:13):
No, you're gonna give us analytics people think, or no,
you didn't give us basic stats that people think are analytics.
Speaker 9 (36:18):
Right, That's what it happens.
Speaker 3 (36:20):
So we'll do that. Coming up at one thirty today,
we'll do a quick daily power play. Interesting article in
the Athletic today maybe kind of underscores the pressure that
the Kraken might be under this year, and it has
nothing to do with the fans or buying tickets and
intreat that it's actual hockey. We'll have some hockey talk
coming up. Well, Booy's here, why not?
Speaker 2 (36:36):
Yeah, Booie's out here today, So we'll do that coming
up at one forty five. And then Jamie Vinnick from
kokfan dot COM's gonna giveusn update what's going on over
the Blues. I had to laugh today, I texted Jamie.
I go, I don't know how to react to this,
and I need to get past it. But the ACC
preseason Offensive Player of the Year and the ACC preseason.
Speaker 9 (36:57):
Oh yeah, I've seen this.
Speaker 3 (36:58):
Cam Ward really yeah, Okay, he has a.
Speaker 2 (37:02):
Couple of days afore I'm gonna either look really smart
and really dumb. I don't know one or the other,
because maybe Cam goes out and house just he just
balls out and has a great year.
Speaker 3 (37:11):
Great, good for him, you do you Cam? That's fine?
But okay, we'll see.
Speaker 2 (37:15):
So we'll talk about that coming up at two o'clock
today right here on nine three point three kjr FM, no.
Speaker 1 (37:23):
From the Star Rentals Sports to us RD ninety three
point three k j r FM Sports Headlines.
Speaker 2 (37:29):
Headlines brought to you by ben U Kings Buddies Goodies
and Glass and jess Mn McIntyre.
Speaker 3 (37:36):
They all know me, and then you get the two
o'clock headlines.
Speaker 8 (37:39):
All right, yeah, let's go Mack in headlines.
Speaker 2 (37:41):
X made a move on the offensive line, reportedly signing
free agent center Connor Williams. One year deal could be
worth up to six million with incentives. He was pretty
good last year and inclase, according to Pro Football Focus,
played for the Miami Dolphins. Blew his a cl out
at the end of the year, but his agent tells
us that he's ready to go by the start of
the season. Also, the c X did have him go
through physical and seem to go well last week when
he visited. THEMS didn't have a good start to their
(38:02):
series with Detroit, losing four to two. Yesterday, Luke Rayley,
the only offense in the game, gave Seattle all solo
home run. They only finished with five hits, one of
which wasn't really a hit. It was just kind of
Polanco getting lucky.
Speaker 3 (38:15):
Four hits. Yeah, it was brutal. That's a bad game tonight.
The pride of Cli.
Speaker 2 (38:20):
Versus let's go Terry School and he goes against George
Kirby and his catchert Mitch Garver. Yeah, that's tonight six
forty first pitcher Rangers and Astros.
Speaker 3 (38:30):
What's that?
Speaker 9 (38:30):
Schoogle is a lefty, so it is.
Speaker 3 (38:33):
Rangers and Astros. Series continues.
Speaker 2 (38:34):
Yesterday's game saw Frembert Valdez taking no hit in the
ninth inning, but Corey Seeger broke it up, not enough though,
four to final the Astros win the game.
Speaker 3 (38:43):
They are now just a half game behind the mariner
Is for.
Speaker 2 (38:46):
First place in the Al West Brand and Ayuk still
on the trading block. Lots of rumors will tell you
when something finally does happen as well. And of course
we're here the Virginia Mason Athletics Center. Our number two
starts right now.
Speaker 1 (38:57):
This is a special KJRFL sports presentation coming to you
live from the Virginia Mason Athletics Center. This is kjrfm's
non stunt coverage Joe Seahawks training Camp, brought to you
by Northwest Handling Systems and the twenty twenty four Bowing Classic.
Speaker 4 (39:14):
Gaugust fifth, thirty eleven on.
Speaker 1 (39:16):
Your one and only home for the twelfth Man Sports
Radio ninety three point three kjr FM.
Speaker 2 (39:24):
And indeed here the Virginia Mason Athletics Center. A couple
more days today and tomorrow. Seahawks fly out to LA
on Friday for their first preseason game on Saturday, that
is against the Chargers of Los Angeles.
Speaker 3 (39:37):
Full pads today.
Speaker 2 (39:38):
Teams making their way on the field right now, full
paths for today's practice after kind of a lighter practice yesterday.
Tyler Lockett back on the field today in full pads.
That's good to see. He's missed the last couple days,
probably just veteran rest days along the way. For number sixteen.
He's a roster lock, but not everybody is. Fifty three
men will be on the roster after what forty eight
hours after that final preseason game, they'll have to cut
(40:00):
down from ninety to fifty three.
Speaker 3 (40:03):
And as we do every year, my.
Speaker 2 (40:04):
Friend Curtis Crabtree now with Fox thirteen Seattle. Foxthirteen Seattle
dot com. You can read all his work there. He
joins me right now back in the KGr days, translating
all the way to the Fox thirteen days. We've always
done this little little exercise. Usually we do it a
couple of times in training camp. Little roster roulette. Curtis
and I think I always premise I leave this out
(40:24):
there for listeners. I think it's a good thing to
kind of give you an idea if you're watching the
game on Saturday, kind of good guys to watch guys
in the bubble that you know that maybe ones you
want to keep a keen eye on as we get
ready for that cutdown day.
Speaker 3 (40:40):
Hello, sir, how are you? I'm good?
Speaker 10 (40:42):
How's it going?
Speaker 3 (40:42):
Good? Good? Good? General terms, roster strengths in terms of
position groups where they have hard decisions, and roster weaknesses
where they don't have enough guys.
Speaker 11 (40:52):
Strengths are at tight end I think is a deep
position for them. Maybe not the high top end, but
it's a deep, deep group of guys that are all
pretty capable. I think interior defensive line has plenty of
solid pieces to choose between. Cornerback is exceptionally deep for them.
Safety I think's fine. I think they're light off ball
(41:13):
linebacker and edge rusher running back behind the top two
who are obvious. I think that's kind of my general
outlook on the roster across the board right now. And
we're assuming that Connor Williams is the center to be
with this team once he officially gets here and signed
it up.
Speaker 3 (41:29):
Yeah, just real quick with that.
Speaker 2 (41:32):
The Ola Timmy all through training camp, OTA's mini camps
for the most part upuntil the last couple three days,
was running with the ones. Then he's been rotating through
anywhere from one to two to three. Nick Harris, the
former Husky who's four years in the NFL but has
just started four games in his career, has got some
run with the Ones after being really the number two
(41:54):
guy for a while. And they also put Jalen Sundell,
who's listed as a tackle in it center at times too.
Speaker 3 (42:01):
They go out and get Connor Williams. What does that
tell you?
Speaker 11 (42:03):
Well, as you just said, there's five combined starts at
center in the NFL on that offensive line. That's pretty inexperienced,
and Connor Williams has far more than that, even though
he played mostly left guard in Dallas. Like even last year,
the nine games he started in Miami at center, where
he was very good, was more than you had for
(42:24):
experience at that position in the NFL level. So like
he's a proven piece that assuming he's healthy, which look,
I've not seen his physical I don't know any of
that stuff. But assuming he's he's that guy. He's clearly
it's not clearly a jump.
Speaker 2 (42:37):
You're not paying the guy upwards of you know, four
to six million dollars without him coming in to start.
Speaker 11 (42:42):
No, I mean they basically haven't had a competent center
since Ethan Postix last year here yep. And so he
had Austin Blythe in twenty two and Evan Brown last year,
and you know, Justin Britt was fine for several years
before that. But like it's been it's been a minute
since they've had like a center that they can truly
feel like, really comfortable in.
Speaker 2 (43:00):
I came up with thirty five roster locks, like absolute
locks that we know will be on the team. I
think you'll agree with all those, but we want to
go through those. But then also the guys that you
think also could make the team. Let's talk about that
deposition group that's called cornerback. I've got Witherspoon, Trey Brown,
Reek Wollen is absolute locks. Now there's other guys that
I think are going to make the team, but you
(43:21):
just mentioned it. It's going to be maybe a trade
comes up, maybe because they're really deep there. There's a
bunch of other guys Already Burns, Michael Jackson fit into
that mix, however you want to phrase what Kobe Bryant
is a cornerback or a safety where he fits in. Plus,
they've got two rookies in Pritchett and DJ James. So
my locks are just those three. Who would you add
to that? I don't think I would. I think already
(43:45):
Burns is probably four on that list, but I don't
know if i'd firmly call him a lock at the
end of the day, because I think they trade somebody
here out of this group because of that depth, because
you can trade from an area of strength, go trade
would be Jackson tlready already either one of those guys
would be the easiest to move. And I mean that's
(44:06):
because like a guy we haven't even mentioned has had
like one of the best practice weeks out here, and
that's Carlton Johnson the last week or so, undrafted rookie
out of Fresno State has been very good.
Speaker 3 (44:17):
Multiple pass breakups yesterday, number thirty seven.
Speaker 11 (44:19):
When you're watching on Saturday, that'll be somebody you're gonna
want to keep an eye on this with this, you know,
this preseason for sure, So they that's a very exceptionally
deep position. And that's again not even mentioning Lance Boykan,
who I think is every bit like a practice squad
caliber cornerback in the NFL. But like, where do you
there's nowhere to go here? So or Dee Williams, who's
a return option for them eventually down there in super
(44:41):
depth kind.
Speaker 2 (44:41):
Of number thirty three. You'll watch him, He'll he'll definitely
be turning kicks on Saturday. All right, let's go to safeties.
Rayshawn Jenkins, Julian Love, Cavon Wallace, I believe are all locks.
Speaker 11 (44:49):
Yeah, And I think I just count Kobe Bryant there
because of the positional versatility. I think there's enough at
that spot.
Speaker 3 (44:56):
Where does that lead Marquis Blair, Jack red.
Speaker 11 (44:58):
Jack Reid until he gets out here, he's he's a
pup guy of me, and I'm gonna just to jump
ahead on that front. I'm not going to count on
Abe Lucas, Cameron Young, Jared Reid being on this roster, yeah,
just until I see otherwise, I'm going to assume they're
not available. Marquis Blair, I think he's got a chance. Yeah,
I think he's got a chance for death for sure.
Whether he ultimately gets there, I don't know, but I
(45:20):
think he's I think he's kind of shown, you know,
Sny' still got something out here.
Speaker 2 (45:25):
So we're all on the same page there, Kay, all right,
I'm just moving down how they have it this alphabetical. Basically,
let's go to defensive ends.
Speaker 10 (45:33):
Defensive ends.
Speaker 2 (45:34):
I've met Draymont and Leonard as Locks, that leaves Pickering, Morris, Adams,
and Levelston.
Speaker 11 (45:40):
I have on my pencil that roster. I have Morris
and no Miles Adams, who has played that spot a
little bit too.
Speaker 3 (45:47):
So you go, Mike Morris, is he a lot would Yeah?
Speaker 11 (45:52):
I did it out its D line and edge guys,
So I had Jaron Reid, Byron Murphy, Jonathan Ankins more
in the interior. I had Leonard Williams, Draymond Jones, Mike Moore,
mars Is the other guys there for d Lineman, kind
of the six across the interior middle.
Speaker 2 (46:04):
There, Okay, So I had to Jared Reed and Bier
Murphy the second So that would leave yeah, Rodney Matthews,
Cameron Young, who's again on pup. Jonathan Hankins, Yes, no, yeah, Yeah,
Hankins is on the roster. Okay, who's in trouble there?
Go tell does he have a chance? Oh he's hurt
right now?
Speaker 11 (46:22):
Yeah, he got that's the that's the bigger issue there him,
I mean him and him and Miles Adams are going
to be maybe fighting out for one more spot. But
that's probably it, all right, I mean, and Morris is
a part of that conversation too.
Speaker 10 (46:33):
It's depending on who they want to keep.
Speaker 2 (46:35):
They list all the linebackers together, and that includes the
off ball guys, you know, think Bobby Wagger which just
try it why I tried to break it up?
Speaker 3 (46:41):
And then they've got the edge guys.
Speaker 2 (46:43):
Let's let's talk edge guys first, Boy Mafey yes, Derek Hall, yes,
Chennanuoshu yes.
Speaker 3 (46:51):
Probably yeah.
Speaker 2 (46:55):
After that, in terms of the edge guys, let's start
with Darryl Taylor hurt right now?
Speaker 3 (47:00):
Yeah? I think a bubble guy.
Speaker 11 (47:03):
Yeah, agree, yeah, one hundred percent. I mean, Connor Williams
needs his number.
Speaker 3 (47:12):
What do you think do you do with Daryl Taylor?
Speaker 10 (47:14):
I don't know.
Speaker 11 (47:14):
I need to see more from that guy, man. I
just I I not super impressed with him period. And
now he's hurt and still seems.
Speaker 3 (47:26):
Like he has brought him back on a one year deal.
Speaker 4 (47:28):
Right.
Speaker 11 (47:28):
Yes, he still seems like he has like one and
a half pass rush moves and his utter inability or
desire to play the run game last year was something
that's stuck in my head and tough for me to
get beyond.
Speaker 3 (47:40):
Long shots here. Nelson Caesar undrafted guy from Houston, probably
more so than than Sonny Anderson.
Speaker 11 (47:47):
But I I don't know, and I don't even know
if Blake Lynch is more of an off ball guy
or or an edge guy. I think he's more off
off ball. Yeah, yeah, so I wouldn't consider him in
that that conversation.
Speaker 3 (48:00):
Season.
Speaker 2 (48:01):
Maybe let's let's get back to him in a second.
Nelson Caesars forty. It wears number forty six. He's an
edge rusher linebacker, but he's an edge guy. He's an
underrafted free agent. Was really one of the stars of
the spring and early summer. Have you seen much from
him since they put the pads on?
Speaker 11 (48:19):
It's tough to say out here for me. I mean
maybe maybe every now and again, But I don't know
if he's a guy that he's a guy who's got
to have a big preseason. Yeah, he's got to do
some stuff on special teams. Yeah for sure, Right, Okay,
you like Devin richardson.
Speaker 10 (48:32):
It, just I think he's in that same mix.
Speaker 3 (48:34):
Yeah, he's more of a he's more an off ball guy.
Speaker 11 (48:36):
I think he can do a little bit of both,
but yeah, he's probably a little bit more off ball.
Speaker 2 (48:40):
So in that regard, let's talk about you know, those
those guys specifically Dodson and Baker both on the team.
H we I believe ty Reese.
Speaker 3 (48:52):
Is on the team.
Speaker 2 (48:53):
Yes, yes, so what is that? What about O'Connell Patrick
O'Connell filled that role last year. He's a deaf guy. Yes, No,
I think Radagan would be next.
Speaker 11 (49:02):
But his contract I think is an issue for them.
I think he's still set to make over like three
million on an RFA on you know, the RFA tender
that he signed. And I'm sorry, but a guy who's
never started an NFL game should not be making over
three three million a season in a depth role.
Speaker 3 (49:19):
So you think they take O'Connell over out Again.
Speaker 11 (49:20):
If the contract is the if they can't make a
contract agreement to change that for Ratagan, then yeah you
go O'Connell for sure. But even as I was penciling
it out here. I had O'Connell on as well, because
I think he can help them on special teams and
give it. I think he's he's actually looked like he's
fairly competent as a blitzer out here. Yeah, so I'm
(49:41):
much like a different player. Yeah, he's a little you
can tell he's he's undersized little time.
Speaker 2 (49:45):
He's six one two thirty. But you can tell that
it's not his first year anymore. No, I would say
that as well. He's like budget brought coil, like a
little bit smaller than.
Speaker 3 (49:54):
Brockworths like that.
Speaker 2 (49:57):
All right, so that's our that's the defense, right, Yes, Okay,
let's let's move to the offensive side of the football.
Quarterbacks Sam and Gino PJ. They maybe keep on the
practice squad if they can.
Speaker 10 (50:09):
I think it's fair.
Speaker 3 (50:10):
I think that's what they do.
Speaker 2 (50:11):
I mean, we've we're so used to a coaching staff
for the last fourteen years keeping just two quarterbacks. I
don't think they would keep three with some of the
other log jams they've got.
Speaker 10 (50:21):
Yeah, I think it's too tough.
Speaker 2 (50:22):
I think it's really and they you know, the contracts
and what they gave up for hol he's not going anywhere,
and Gino obviously you're.
Speaker 11 (50:27):
Starting, and there's not really a need to with the
ability to just elevate a guy off the practice squad.
As long as you can get a guy on the
practice squad, then you're fine. And they got him off
the street fairly late. I don't unless he just has
this incredible preseason that people go, w well, wait a second,
or guys get hurt. That's the other thing with p Jenny.
But I think ideally they'd love to have him on
the practice Yeah. And I mean, look, I'm not super
(50:49):
high on either of them, no, you know him or
Sam Howell. Like, I think this is probably the lowest ceiling.
I shouldn't say ceiling because I think Howell can grow eventually,
but like, I think it's probably the going into the year,
probably like the the least least take us with every
great assault, I'm prefacing the probably the least competent backup
quarterback situation they've had in a while.
Speaker 2 (51:11):
Well, there's no doubt is downgrade from Drew Lock. Yes,
Like there's no doubt like Drew Lock to these guys,
Hawll does have an upside potentially, as you know, coming
into his second year, I mean started seventeen games.
Speaker 11 (51:21):
Was yeah, I mean, we're it's probably the weakest backup
spot they've had since Trevon Boykan the one year. It's
not that low, it's not it's not that long alright,
running back Walker mcint or Walker Sharponay. Then let least
McIntosh and Hallani, and I kind of like some of
what I've seen out of Kobe Lowis.
Speaker 3 (51:39):
Lewis to forty four, but Halani, where's thirty six?
Speaker 10 (51:42):
For watch?
Speaker 11 (51:43):
It's two guys, and I think the rest they've talked
to up Hallani a bit, especially the last couple of days.
McDonald had a very lukewarm answer to a question I
asked him about Kenny m Yeah, exceptionally lukewarm.
Speaker 2 (51:58):
Yeah, he's in a battle right now or something like that. Yeah, yeah,
that was an interesting comment. I can see, Well, they'll
keep four, so it more than likely they'll keep four.
McIntosh and Halani would seem to be the front ners.
Kobe Lewis right there as well. Kobe Lewis is from Florida.
Speaker 11 (52:15):
Whatever the situation is, I don't think you worry about
the roster spot with either of those guys.
Speaker 10 (52:19):
You're gonna get somebody to the practice squad. If you
lose a guy, then so be it.
Speaker 3 (52:21):
Whatever.
Speaker 2 (52:22):
I think you're fine, Macintosh. The only thing that could
help him, or one thing that could help him I mentally,
is the return game.
Speaker 3 (52:27):
Yeah, in the preseason.
Speaker 11 (52:28):
I think McIntosh is probably the better runner out of
that group, but I think everything else I think probably
tends to Like Kiwani, let's go to tight end.
Speaker 2 (52:35):
You mentioned how deep it is. We know Noah Fan,
Ferrell Brown on the roster. I like Britty Russell. They've
kept Maybury around here forever.
Speaker 10 (52:42):
Yeah, I can.
Speaker 2 (52:43):
See it being those four guys. And if they want
to get Westover, I mean, Barner is a draft pick,
he was a fourth rounder.
Speaker 10 (52:48):
I think Barner's gonna be on the team because of that.
Speaker 3 (52:50):
So do you go Fant, Brown, Russell, Barner.
Speaker 10 (52:53):
Yes, that's the four that I have.
Speaker 3 (52:54):
And Maybury goes back to the practice squad if you
can get him there.
Speaker 11 (52:57):
Yeah, Okay, And similarly with west Over, I think west
Over would end up there too, Okay. Like like I said,
I think all six of these guys I think they like.
But the locks for sure are Brown and Fant Yeah,
pick I don't see them moving on from that, I
think of the passive. Yeah, but I don't think he's
you know, I don't think he's Kevin Norwood or.
Speaker 3 (53:17):
This is this is a team that hasn't minded cutting
fourth round picks.
Speaker 11 (53:20):
But oh, I think they're gonna have to cut a
couple of draft picks here. I think we were looking
at that, but we just saw me Pritchett and James.
Prichett and James could easily be cut.
Speaker 3 (53:27):
Darrell, Let's go, yeah, let's let's let's get to the
let's get to the offensive lineman. Christian Haynes, Uh McClendon,
Curtis Lake and Tomlinson, Anthony Bradford, Charles Cross, George Fant.
We're gonna keep Lucas out of the mix for now.
Rayquan O'Neil, I don't have Rayquan on. You don't have
Raquan On.
Speaker 11 (53:46):
I still just out of the scene him played for
the last couple of years. I have Stone fourth forsyphons
the tackle.
Speaker 2 (53:53):
So that's where we'll we'll we'll differ there and see
how that turns out. Seventy eight or seventy nine, those
guys are bubble guys, yes, Darrell, practice squad.
Speaker 10 (54:00):
Yeah probably, Uh, well.
Speaker 2 (54:02):
Maya same same Jalen Sindel practice squad. Yeah, sure, Nick
Harris practice squad. Eve can get him there, Ola, Timmy backup.
He's your number two. Yeah, okay, I mean that gives you.
Let me add this up here real quick, just to
kind of go through it one, two, three, four, five, six, seven,
(54:23):
eight nine with Williams.
Speaker 11 (54:25):
And they'll keep nine or ten. Yeah, I think they
probably land on what is probably they keep nine or ten.
It's nine or ten they keep every year. You only
act eight usually a weekly. Okay, Uh, let's go to
the wide receivers. This is to me as deep a
position group as we have.
Speaker 10 (54:41):
Yeah. I think it's pretty solid for sure.
Speaker 3 (54:43):
So let's go. I mean the locks are obvious.
Speaker 2 (54:45):
It's you know, Tyler dk JSM those your locks jobs
and Bubble was a lot too. Sorry I had Bubbo's
a lock, but those are those four guys are flat
out locks.
Speaker 3 (54:53):
The question is do you keep six? Do you keep seven?
Do you keep? What do you do? And who's next
up on the list, who's number five? In your mind?
Speaker 11 (55:00):
I have them with Derek Young just because I Likedrek.
I think he's got heats can help him on special teams.
Good sized guy, I think you have. I think he'd
worry about losing him more on waivers than you would
some of the other guys were going to talk about.
Speaker 3 (55:14):
So I think I think Derek and Schinald are both on.
Speaker 2 (55:16):
That's what I have to I think those guys are
both on the team, which means you're gonna cut the following,
uh Ty Scott, d Eskridge, Estop Winston Junior, Cody White,
and Hayden Hatten.
Speaker 3 (55:26):
Yeah, out of those guys who goes to the practice.
Speaker 10 (55:29):
Squad, Cody White, Winston, maybe d s Gridge.
Speaker 3 (55:36):
So let's talk about d Scridge for a second. What
does he need to do to make this football team.
Speaker 11 (55:41):
I don't think he has enough time. I I just
don't think he has the time amount of time it
would take for him to do the stuff he needs
to show that he can play at this level. I
don't think he has it. And I I don't even
know that every play with this is his fault. But
every time they throw him in the football it goes incomplete.
It he just it doesna end up in a catch.
Speaker 2 (56:01):
Curtis, I was gonna tell you that I thought, in fact, yesterday.
I think it was as much as anything without even
pads on. It felt like everything didn't get caught that
was thrown his way. And and you know, we've been
kind of touting this guy since he was drafted, you know,
back in twenty twenty that there twenty twenty one, I
guess it was this is a guy that's gonna make
(56:21):
this impact. And you know, through no fault of his own,
he's had injuries, through fault of his own, he got
suspended by the league, and maybe time has indeed run out.
I don't think he'd get him to the practice squad.
I think there'd be a team desperate enough to pick
him up. You know, they'd see something. But I don't
think it's a big deal. I honestly don't think it's
a big deal, not at that position group with who
who else they have on this roster.
Speaker 3 (56:42):
No esaup.
Speaker 11 (56:42):
Winston's made four x the plays he has. Cody White's
made two x the plays he has. Yeah, Cody White.
Speaker 10 (56:47):
Ran by Neamia Bridgett for a touchdown yesterday.
Speaker 2 (56:50):
It was pretty nice well, and can return kicks and
that's you know, so he's a practice squad guy.
Speaker 3 (56:54):
You can elevate back and forth.
Speaker 11 (56:55):
If you can keep a roster spot just for a
kick returner, Dieskage might be able to help you there,
because I think he does have skills in that regard.
But like as far as keep you can't keep a
receiver spot for that, No, you need to do more.
Speaker 3 (57:06):
I'll wrap it up this. I believe just looking.
Speaker 2 (57:07):
At what we went through that it it feels like
a more competitive camp after say, you know for roster
spots thirty five through fifty three, then it has been
the last couple of years. We've done this the last
couple of years, and it felt like it felt like
because I put the locks in yellow, it felt like
the last couple of years, I had a lot more
yellow on my sheet.
Speaker 10 (57:24):
Yeah, do you want to do a little history reasoning?
Speaker 11 (57:29):
So like our our questions about who were going to
make the roster last year came down injuries that kept
them off the roster. Right like we have thought guys
like Joey Blunt and Jonathan Sutherland could make the roster.
By Jones we had as a guy who was going
to be on the roster. All of those guys ended
up hurt, which is why they didn't weren't a part
of the roster. At the end of the day, Cody
Thompson made the roster YEA to start the year, and
(57:49):
that was over Kay Johnson, Aesop Winston. That just wasn't
all that much question wise, Like we knew Bobo was
going to be on the team by that point. He
was a little bit of a surprise that Drek was
on the inn fifty three man roster, given the fact
he'd been dealing with the injuries that he had in
camp a year ago. But like, it just wasn't that
much of a There wasn't that many questions.
Speaker 2 (58:08):
They weren't as deep a corner. It didn't feel like
right right, I mean, they weren't as deep there. Tight
end was a little bit more obvious last season. I mean,
you know, at the start of last season they had
the three guys it was easy. He was Disley, Fant
and Parkinson. Yeah uh, and you know Maybury was a
practice squad guy. So yeah, I just feel like this
is a little bit more of a competitive camp, which
you would expect as well for a team that a
didn't make the playoffs and be as new coaching. But
(58:29):
we also see that there's been some soft spots on
the roster too, where they need some help. Center was
absolutely a spot that would look a little bit of
an issue. I still think linebacker, like all across the board,
whether you're talking about age rushers or the off ball linebackers,
I think there's some some softness to that part.
Speaker 3 (58:44):
I think wall is a concern. I think that's it.
Speaker 2 (58:46):
I don't I don't think you can't say it's a
concern because there's it's as a definitely concern.
Speaker 3 (58:50):
Baker can't stay healthy.
Speaker 2 (58:51):
Yeah, Dotson in and out, and then you're down to
Tyree Knight, Patrick O'Connell, John Radagan.
Speaker 3 (58:55):
Like you just said Radagan's contract, they're gonna have to
cut him.
Speaker 11 (58:57):
Yes, I think it's kind of bringing back have him
do the same thing other guys have done in the past,
which is adjust their contract on the RFA deal or
understand that you're going to be cut and then you're
going to go to a team that you don't know
and try to get it to speed.
Speaker 10 (59:08):
There.
Speaker 2 (59:09):
That is Kurzkrabtree Fox thirteen Seattle dot com. You can
read his work there at Fox thirteen Seattle dot com.
Go check it out.
Speaker 3 (59:15):

Speaker 11 (59:18):
I am yeah, Scoogle and Kirby. I think right, uh yeah,
you might as we go watch. I think I'll get
there for that one.
Speaker 2 (59:24):
You might as we go watch a couple syan candidate's
guy from c WU Andrews. Let's go relax.
Speaker 6 (59:29):
He's the second best athlete to come out of there,
behind and right behind Andrews.
Speaker 3 (59:32):
All right, we'll take you right, Chris, Thank you. I
appreciate it. Yeah, Chris crapt you will come back. We'll
talk a little matters.
Speaker 10 (59:36):

Speaker 6 (01:00:42):
During the draft process and the free agent signing, I
heard KOA.
Speaker 8 (01:00:46):
Chuff's name more than anyone.
Speaker 2 (01:00:48):
Well, what he did at Washington was impressive, and what
Grubb did obviously was really impressive with the offense. But
doesn't happen without that offensive line being great.
Speaker 9 (01:00:54):
So I brought him along.
Speaker 3 (01:00:55):
Yeah, and I know I do know this.
Speaker 2 (01:00:58):
I know there have been I was just talking to
a former NFL player during mini camps. So there was
an offensive line coach and ended up coaching here in
Seattle for a while.
Speaker 3 (01:01:05):
And I'll leave them one name.
Speaker 2 (01:01:06):
But went from college to the to the pros and
was fell a flat on his face. Didn't know how
to deal with guys, mostly because they were a veteran group.
This is a young group, so I think Scott Hub's
canna be fantastic, Yeah, watching it, teach, Okay, I want
to get back to the Mariner's just for a second
here the game tonight, big one second one to Detroit.
You're just you're hanging on, you know, to a half
game lead, certainly be nice. I mean could go two ways,
(01:01:30):
three ways, could be half a game. After night, you
could be down to half a game. You could be
up a game and a half. So there's a lot
of swings that are gonna take place now until the
end of September. But losing to Detroit in the first
game is not ideal.
Speaker 9 (01:01:40):
Astros are up five to two on the Rangers right now,
by the way.
Speaker 2 (01:01:43):
That's fantastic, great, super awesome. Okay, last night, the concern controversy,
questions complaining went a lot towards Scott's service. We live
in a world now where we want to complain about analytics,
even if it's not analytics. I can't believe Service relying
on analytics to make that decision to pinch it Garbor
(01:02:05):
for Rayley late in the game. But really what it
was was your basic run of the mill stats that
we can all understand that came into play Andrews. What
were those numbers that Scott's Service was looking at last night?
When Polanco flies out, we thought to write center field.
And by the way, I forget who the picture was
(01:02:27):
for Detroit. Yeah, what a kick in the you know
what for that dude. Yeah, you never had his first
career save locked up. He had it locked up. Listen,
I'm feeling sorry for the Detroit Tigers and we're in Seattle,
I know, but they lost the game anyway, right, So
does it matter?
Speaker 9 (01:02:44):
Now?
Speaker 2 (01:02:45):
This kid had his first career save in the in
a fly ball and then they yank him after and
it wasn't even an air because no one touched the ball.
Speaker 3 (01:02:56):
So ploma gets a hit.
Speaker 2 (01:02:58):
Rayley scheduled to hit, run around great hustled by Polanco
and run hunt first with two outs, down by two,
Garver comes up to face written instead of Ralli.
Speaker 3 (01:03:09):
Why what were the numbers?
Speaker 9 (01:03:11):
So the reason they yanked him in is because, hey, newsflash,
other teams use these numbers too. Wait, what may I
know they brought in a lefty because Luke Rayley against
left handed pitching has a four nineteen U sorry four
fifty ops four ninety seven. I was looking on the
(01:03:32):
wrong number four ninety seven OPS versus left handed pitching.
So Mitch Garver's been pretty bad against eighty's.
Speaker 3 (01:03:38):
Just okay, just because OPS is still new for.
Speaker 2 (01:03:40):
Some Yes, on base plus slugging, okay, So he has
Luke Railey against left he's has a.
Speaker 9 (01:03:45):
What okay, I'll put I'll split it up for you,
two twenty two on base percentage, a two seventy five
slugging for a four to ninety seven OPS against left
handed pitching this year really really bad, very very very bad,
very bad.
Speaker 3 (01:04:01):
Yes.
Speaker 9 (01:04:02):
Uh, And we all know Mitch Garver struggles this year.
Right we talked about his OPS versus lefties eight hundred
pretty good, that's above average, that's a that's a good
hitter an MLB against left handed pitching. And his OPS
versus righty's is not as bad as Luke Raley was
versus lefties. So it's and these aren't like everyone wants
(01:04:24):
to talk about analytics and like, oh, you need to
have feel for the game. These aren't like anything that deep.
It's like, Okay, this guy's had success against left handed pitching.
This guy has not. Let's put him in this situation because,
like I said, the other team knows that you have
those same stats as well. So let's put in the
guy that the other guy will struggle.
Speaker 2 (01:04:42):
So they bring in the lefty yes, seemingly to face Rayley, Yes,
which was a great matchup for Detroit exactly a very
bad matchup for Seattle. So so Scott Servis says, I,
I see your left hander. Guess what I'm gonna do.
Mitch Garver has had a bad year. He's mentally screwed
in the head. Everything about Mitch Garver is bad. But
(01:05:04):
you know what, he's okay against left handed pitching. We're
gonna put Mitch Garver into this situation because, yes, Mitch Garver,
who could plained last week about getting basically bullied on
social media, basically admitted that he's not gonna hit over
two hundred this season, kind of gave up on the season.
Speaker 3 (01:05:21):
But he hits left handed pitching, okay.
Speaker 9 (01:05:23):
Yeah, And a lot of people think, oh, you put
him in a terrible situation. I honestly don't think that,
Like my game was already lost. Basically, give him something.
If he ends up getting a hit in a situation
like we said, against the lefty where he has had
successes here, it could change his whole season.
Speaker 2 (01:05:39):
And here's the thing, like Ander's part of it goes
to this. Now, I wasn't listening to the radio broadcast.
I was watching on TV. If I'm gonna give some credit,
work credits to I Goldsmith usually is really good with
the numbers, yeah, and does a great job with that.
Speaker 10 (01:05:54):
I didn't.
Speaker 2 (01:05:55):
I wasn't listening careful enough. But I don't think he
articulated at all what that move meant. On radio, Gary
Hill so good he probably used to wasn't calling the game.
Gary probably handed the numbers to Riz exactly because Rizz
wouldn't know him. I love Ricky, but you know, he's
just he's calling the game. He's a great job. But
that's they probably said that. That's that's the case where
at some point the broadcast can help a little bit
(01:06:16):
too absolutely and explain it, because I don't think they
did because of the outrage afterwards. So you know, part
of it lays on the broadcasting role as well. But
in that case, like I remember that when I first
saw Garver's coming up, I'm like, isn't really scheduled to
hit ol Garver?
Speaker 3 (01:06:30):
Yeah? And I thought, huh what?
Speaker 2 (01:06:31):
And then I started seeing the numbers, and I'm like, okay,
it makes sense now. It was the most the most
vintage Mitch Garver at bat you'd ever possibly have. It
didn't work, three straight strikes. Strike three was about his
eyeballs and he swung hard and missed.
Speaker 3 (01:06:50):
So be it. You move on.
Speaker 2 (01:06:51):
Frankly, you shouldn't have been in that position in the
first place. You did get a second opportunity, you couldn't
make the most of it. They have had that happen
this year where they've had those second or third opportunity.
Speaker 10 (01:07:00):
He's i e.
Speaker 2 (01:07:01):
The White Sox series here in Seattle, where they had
no business winning those games, and they did. The Red
Sox won win. They had a Fenway no business winning
that game. But the Red Sox booted the ball over
the place.
Speaker 7 (01:07:11):
You know what.
Speaker 3 (01:07:12):
This time they couldn't take advantage.
Speaker 2 (01:07:13):
It happens, But it was not a Scott's service relying
on analytics and getting a call from the analytical department
upstairs saying go with Mitch Garver. The deeper numbers, say
Mitch Garver. No, they were obvious numbers that he had
in the palm of his hand, and said we're going
with Garver. And it could have been a bigger picture.
Garver gets a hit changes the whole dynamics of what
he's thinking exactly. Yeah, you know he's over since that
(01:07:36):
all that stuff last week. Hasn't had hit since that
happened last week. He's gonna get opportunities tonight. He'll probably
get three or four at bats tonight when he catches
George Kirby.
Speaker 3 (01:07:45):
Maybe he can turn it around.
Speaker 2 (01:07:47):
And Guys, I know there's some and I was hard
on him yesterday and I was hard on Midggarvey.
Speaker 3 (01:07:51):
I get that.
Speaker 2 (01:07:53):
I also know that for this team to get a
playoff run in them, at some point, Mitch Garver's gonna have.
Speaker 3 (01:07:59):
To do something offensively. He just is he's gonna play.
Speaker 2 (01:08:02):
He's gonna play, He's gonna pitch hit in the situation,
and just articulated.
Speaker 3 (01:08:06):
To you, you want this guy to turn it around.
They've they've got to figure out something.
Speaker 2 (01:08:11):
I honestly what I'd like to see them do, And
to be honest with you, I'd like to see them
you know, I'd like to see him get quote hurt
where they can put him on the ten day injured list,
not send him down to Tacoma. No, just get quote hurt,
take a rest and take it, take a break, take
a mental break for like a few days.
Speaker 9 (01:08:31):
Question is you can't have cal ketchen every day? See
then you need to call up?
Speaker 3 (01:08:34):
Well yeah, but you know what, you live with that
for a day or two.
Speaker 2 (01:08:38):
You just live with it. I mean, you get your
schedules loose enough coming up? Yeah it is you got
you got some slappies after the match, You're fine do that.
Speaker 3 (01:08:44):
I don't know.
Speaker 2 (01:08:45):
I just think I think they've got to help the
guy out mentally. But maybe he turns around tonight. Right,
all right, we gotta get to an Olympic update. We
got that coming up. Do a daily power play, a
little uh pressure on the front office of the crack
and I'll tell you what that's all about.
Speaker 3 (01:08:55):
Coming up.
Speaker 2 (01:08:55):
Courtesy of the Athletic at one after Olympic update on
ninety three points FM.
Speaker 3 (01:09:04):
Falcon Streets wanted on Goldiflecks and I stop, it's Crosby. Stop.
Speaker 4 (01:09:11):
This is the daily power play deep slot on t.
Speaker 1 (01:09:19):
Now Ian Ferness on Sports Radio ninety three point three.
Speaker 4 (01:09:25):
Wait kJ R FM.
Speaker 2 (01:09:29):
All right, daily powerful. I wanted to bring this up
just for a couple of second. I thought it was interesting.
I read this, save the athletic. I love the athletic.
Speaker 3 (01:09:34):
They do such great stuff in every sport.
Speaker 2 (01:09:37):
Nine years now they've done a project basically where they
allow fans to grade the front office of every NHL team.
Speaker 3 (01:09:44):
And I bring this up for this reason. Ninth year
they've done this.
Speaker 2 (01:09:47):
Over ten thousand people responded, so probably a lot of
you guys cracking fans might have responded as well. You
get a grade your team and the other teams in
the league. Right, And it's basically on the following categories
roster building, cat management, rafting, development, trading, free agency, and vision. Andrews,
I'll ask you this, where do you think, out of
thirty two teams, the Seattle crack and ranks?
Speaker 9 (01:10:09):
Ooh, I pretty close to the middle. I'd probably say fourteen,
fifteen or sixteen.
Speaker 3 (01:10:15):
Okay, I would have fought the same.
Speaker 8 (01:10:16):
I was going seventeen. That's funny, we were all the same.
Speaker 3 (01:10:19):
I would have fought the same.
Speaker 9 (01:10:20):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:10:20):
Twenty seventh. Wow they got a D plus?
Speaker 4 (01:10:25):
Wow?
Speaker 9 (01:10:26):
What what did they falter in? What categories?
Speaker 3 (01:10:28):
Everything? Like?
Speaker 2 (01:10:29):
I looked at this and I thought it was I
thought it was my report card from the semester. When
I turned twenty one.
Speaker 3 (01:10:34):
It wasn't.
Speaker 8 (01:10:38):
It looks a good time to do that.
Speaker 2 (01:10:39):
It looked really familiar to that fall semester the first time.
I was twenty one and spent more time at the
Coup than any other place. The public CAT roster building
C minus. This is a public's one roster building C
minus cat management C minus draft and developed C plus
trading C free agency D plus vision C minus total
C minus. That's the public crack and fan base roster
(01:11:02):
building D plus cap management D draft and development B
which is interesting.
Speaker 3 (01:11:08):
I'll come back to that.
Speaker 2 (01:11:09):
Trading D plus free agency, D vision D plus total
D plus. Now, last year, last year, this is it's
a recency bias.
Speaker 4 (01:11:19):
Guys.
Speaker 2 (01:11:19):
Ye, last year they were ninth coming off a playoff appearance. Well,
this year they dropped at twenty seven. The high grade
I just told you was a B for draft and
developed from their own fan base, which I think is legit,
I think and maybe almost incomplete because the guys are
still young.
Speaker 3 (01:11:34):
Yep, right, they're still young.
Speaker 2 (01:11:35):
We don't know, I mean we Beneers has had an
off year, right, Riker is kind of still trying to
find his way in. Shane hasn't made the crack the
lineup full time. Cartier did, but he was not drafted,
he was developed, so I guess he comes to the picks.
I thought it was unfair, to be honest with you. Yeah,
I think it's I think it's pretty unfair. I I
(01:11:56):
do think the vision parts an interesting one C minus
and D plus. I here's what it underscores because the
lower grades outside of draft and developed came from their
own fan base. The pressure from within this year. I
know we're not a traditional hockey market. I know we're
not a traditional fan base and all those things. We
just were talking about an andergy, we were talking about
(01:12:16):
it with the Mariners.
Speaker 10 (01:12:17):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:12:18):
Sometimes i'd educated fan bases can be the most critical
in places they have no idea what they're talking about.
I think that the fan base here, hockey wise, is
a lot more knowledgeable than people give it credit for.
There's been hockey here for a long time. I think
they get it, and I think there's some pretty significant
pressure on Ron Francis and his staff this year. That's
also why I think they went out and signed brandenmore
Montor and.
Speaker 9 (01:12:37):
In channel Stevenson and fire Dave Hackstall.
Speaker 2 (01:12:39):
And fired Dave Hackstall they recognize there's an urgency here.
But the reasoncy bias is crazy. Vancouver was thirtieth last year,
their top five this year. Yeah, why because of the
year ago they thought.
Speaker 8 (01:12:49):
So how much Docker really putting in it?
Speaker 3 (01:12:51):
Well, that's the thing.
Speaker 2 (01:12:52):
That's because Edmonton, they'll rank twenty seventh or twenty six
or something.
Speaker 3 (01:12:58):
They went to the damn Stanley Cup Final.
Speaker 8 (01:13:00):
That wasn't good enough, right.
Speaker 2 (01:13:01):
They went, I mean Edmonton, Edmonton was in Buffalo's twenty six.
They've had first overall draft picks, A loot Edmonton's twenty fifth.
They got a C minus overall. I think it's interesting
this from the standpoint. Yeah, it shows you that the
fan base here is putting some pressure and the squeeze
on them to win this year. And that's why they
did what they did. They invested this year like they
haven't before in free agency and they went out there
(01:13:23):
and you mentioned they fired Dave hacks Toll. Why because
they know they have to win.
Speaker 9 (01:13:27):
And I think it's a good thing to give them
that pressure. That's good to have fan expectations behind what
it is.
Speaker 2 (01:13:31):
Yeah, it's called professional sports. Yes, we're watching a team
practice out here right now. That fired a coach who
won a super Bowl, only the second major sports championship
in this city's history. Lenny Wilkins and Pete Carroll. They're
the only ones to do it all due respect to
the minor franchises out there, sarem and Sounders. Two guys
have won it. They fired him, and you know you
(01:13:53):
can fire Lenny Wilkins. Lenny walked away right like there
is pressure to win in pro sports like noble business.
But yeah, we'll keep an eye on this year. I'm
gonna I saved this article because I'm gonna go back
and visit later in the year. Okay, we'll take a break,
we'll come back. Let's check in with Jamie Finnick. Our
Budy from kok Fan will find out how the coops
are looking to practice over in the heat of Pullman Washington.
(01:14:14):
Top twenty five came out yesterday, No pack, two teams in.
We'll talk about that with him as well.
Speaker 1 (01:14:18):
Next now from the Star Rentals Sports Tests, your ninety
three point three j j R FM Sports Headlines.
Speaker 2 (01:14:28):
Two o'clock headlines by to you Bye, Buddy's good, He's
in Glass and by Anderson Hurst Parades.
Speaker 3 (01:14:34):
Yes, indeed, let's get right to it.
Speaker 2 (01:14:36):
How about scoreboard update from Major League Baseball Mariners tonight
later on hosting the Detroit Tigers. It's a battle of
potential cy young award winners or candidates leaders in the clubhouse?
Speaker 3 (01:14:49):
Right? Is that what we'll call it? Pretty much?
Speaker 2 (01:14:53):
Uh, Trek Scuobel and George Kirby go toe to toe
tonight six forty first pitch Mariners. Right now, I don't
have a game or a half game lead in the
American League west over the Houston Astros. The Astros are
playing as we speak there in the eighth inning leading
the Texas Rangers five to three. If they close things out,
they'll be tied heading into the game tonight at six
(01:15:15):
forty first pitch at t Mobile Park, Mariners and the Tigers.
Speaker 3 (01:15:18):
So we'll get we'll keep an eye on that. It
was five to nothing right at.
Speaker 9 (01:15:20):
One point nothing it was yeah, Rangers kind of come back.
Speaker 3 (01:15:23):
Rangers making their coming back.
Speaker 2 (01:15:24):
Connor Williams signs the Seahawks, reportedly new center who will
be the number one guy. There ain't no doubt about that.
Why well, they signed into a contract that's basically triple
what any other center was making. We're in the RUSS
right now, so you could cut on that happening along
the way as well. Let's see Brandon drama continues in
the NFL. I'm not sure where he's gonna end up.
Nobody cares. An Olympic up day coming up forty after
(01:15:46):
the hour.
Speaker 3 (01:15:47):
Let's move on. Here we go.
Speaker 1 (01:15:49):
This especially KRM sports presentation coming to you live from
the Virginia Mason Athletics Center. This is kjrfm's non stunt

Speaker 2 (01:16:18):
We will check in with Safty two forty five and
apparently there's a little skirmish out there.
Speaker 3 (01:16:22):
Oh hello, a little skirmish.
Speaker 2 (01:16:24):
Out there in the Seahawk practice day. We'll get the
update from Safty at two forty five and Crosstock, I
like it. Get a little feisty out there today. Full
pads by the way, after kind of a lighter practice
yesterday here at the Virginia Mason Athletic Center. So we'll
talk to SAFTI coming up then as well. Esop Winston
Junior joined us in the one o'clock hour today or
new now, I should say fun to talk to the
(01:16:44):
former cook speaking of the Kooks joining us right now.
Beacon plenty hotline our good friend from kook fan dot com,
where I've been watching and keeping track of all things
going on in Pullman for training camp. Jamie Vinnick, what's up,
my man?
Speaker 4 (01:16:55):
How are you? I'm good.
Speaker 7 (01:16:57):
I about you, guys.
Speaker 3 (01:16:58):
We're good. We're all that. How hot is it over
there right now?
Speaker 10 (01:17:01):
Dude?
Speaker 3 (01:17:01):
How bad is it?
Speaker 7 (01:17:03):
You know? It's it's says eighty five. I think it's
blind because it feels like one hundred and eighty five.
But no, you know what, compared to compared to last week,
this is this is fun.
Speaker 12 (01:17:12):
It was up upwards of one hundred last week, and
even on.
Speaker 7 (01:17:15):
Monday they had to push practice back because it was
some lightning and then it got really really hot. So
today's actually again it's it's decent comparatively.
Speaker 2 (01:17:25):
I want to get into quarterback battles and some of
the things jumping out at you and camp in a second,
two other things I want to get to before I
get to the actual fall camp one would be and Jamie,
I gotta admit, I need to get past this. I
need to just move on. I need to get past
the cam Ward era of Cougar football. I understand that
it's a sickness I have, and I need to I
need to move on. But I had to chuckle when
(01:17:46):
I saw that he was named preseason ACC Offensive Player
of the Year. Really is that really the case?
Speaker 12 (01:17:53):
You know, I kind of did drew close to the
look around.
Speaker 7 (01:17:58):
It's just not a There's not a lot of good
candidate for I mean, he got Djula, who we saw
at Oregon State's at Florida State out. Not a lot
there that we've seen. Kig Pubnicget comes into is talented,
but unliving and it's I mean, I think.
Speaker 12 (01:18:12):
Pre seasons player of the year less are just dumb.
Speaker 7 (01:18:15):
I mean, I don't think it's I think it's just counterproductive.
But I mean he might be the best candidate, but
I don't. I didn't see anything of Washington State that
would suggests a power player of the year. I mean,
he has the talent to do so. I mean he's
certainly there's never a question of talent, but he's you know,
he's missing something. We'll put it that way, that they
(01:18:37):
were missing something last year and it just I think
maybe there was an offensive line issue. There were some receiverss,
but it just never played game together for him at
Lotching State.
Speaker 2 (01:18:45):
Maybe it's more of an indictment on the a SEC,
you know, which. I wish bad things on all things
acc especially Stanford and Cal. But again, I'm a bitter
bitter man right now, so I'll try to move on
at some point along the way. All right, let me
the other thing. Top twenty five came out and Washington's
twenty six. I only bring that up just for context
for everybody they finished second. It kind of shows you,
(01:19:08):
kind of shows you how how goofy the top preseason
top twenty five is Washington lost their entire roster. They're
still ranked twenty six, But I bring that up for
this reason. Neither one of the Cougars or the or
the uh. I'm sorry, I'm watching another fight here at.
Speaker 8 (01:19:21):
Seahawk Cross Spacey.
Speaker 3 (01:19:23):
Yeah it's a pretty good one. Oh, it's a pretty
good one.
Speaker 2 (01:19:26):
Sorry, Jamie. I don't I don't think we can talk
about it now, but I'll just tell you two starters.
One offense and one defense still pregnant. Man, it's have
you seen many fights at wazoo practices? What are they
doing out there?
Speaker 7 (01:19:37):
Is this?
Speaker 10 (01:19:38):
This is the first time.
Speaker 7 (01:19:39):
Still, It's funny you asked there's more than usual, and
I'm not talking I mean, I get I can't see
what's going on there.
Speaker 12 (01:19:46):
I'm not talking full lot the top or anything like that.
Speaker 7 (01:19:49):
But there did some some pushing and shoving, and there
always is, but I think it's been dialed up a
little bit. And that's not a bad thing as much.
Speaker 3 (01:19:56):
As it is.
Speaker 7 (01:19:56):
It's just it's intense in the frenchie. So there's actually
been a little more than usual, but nothing, nothing to
the point of, you know, fish are coming, helmets are
being flown, just you know, some good old fashioned pushing
and shopping, maybe a little kind of helmet headbutting of
each other, guys in the faces, but no no punches yet.
And I don't think that's that's not happened in any
different practice I remember, and I I don't think you
(01:20:18):
would go over well with if it ever did.
Speaker 2 (01:20:20):
I'll tell you this, it's not going over well right
now with uh With Mike McDonald. He just brought the
entire team in uh stopped practice and everyone's in there,
and I think they're getting read the ride act.
Speaker 3 (01:20:29):
Right, I'll tell you who it is. I see guys
sweetened it out.
Speaker 2 (01:20:31):
Trey Brown and DK Metcalf just got into it and
it was that was a pretty good scrap.
Speaker 3 (01:20:35):
Like they it started.
Speaker 2 (01:20:36):
DK walked away twice and then Trey kept at him
and I don't know, man, Trey, you're.
Speaker 3 (01:20:40):
You're a tough kid. Is a corner that's not the
that's not the one. I'd pick a lot. I don't know.
Speaker 7 (01:20:45):
I DK let be the last guy. Uh, I'm not
surprised he was in the middle of something.
Speaker 12 (01:20:53):
I mean, he seek not afraid to mix it up
a little bit.
Speaker 7 (01:20:57):
But as a Seahawks fan, glad to here McDonald's setting
that right. Can't can't have fifteen yard penalties. No, that
has been.
Speaker 2 (01:21:06):
DK just said, listen, man, I'd tuo plex Fred Warner
last year. I'll do the same to you.
Speaker 3 (01:21:10):
Little man.
Speaker 2 (01:21:11):
No, no, all right, let me get back. Okay, So
what are you hearing on that I bring up this?
You know, because it's obviously it's turned into a two
team or a two conference world of college football. Now
it's the top twenty five is all SEC in Big ten.
That's basically who it is. A couple ACC and Big
twelve teams sprinkled in, but that's it. It's those two
no group of five teams in the top twenty five
(01:21:32):
this year, and that includes Wazoo, Oregon State Mountain West
teams and.
Speaker 3 (01:21:36):
The rest of them. What are you hearing about scheduling
alliances maybe down the road with the Big twelve or
whatever else it might be. What are you hearing on
on the futures front?
Speaker 7 (01:21:48):
You know, I wish I had more I could I
could say on it, And the fact of the matter
is it's just a HiT's hiet. And I think anything
that happens in terms of, you know, potentially aligning with
the Big Twelve of this, or that it's done in
such silence.
Speaker 12 (01:22:03):
That it doesn't get leaked.
Speaker 7 (01:22:05):
I mean, I you know, it's hard to say what
Ann McCoy what from behind the scenes because anything they're
doing is very tight lift.
Speaker 12 (01:22:11):
And you know, we see the rumors, they go on Twitter.
Speaker 7 (01:22:14):
And everyone knows this or knows that. And I just
think that you know, when when something is finalized, if
something gets finalized with the Big twelve, or you know,
again the ECC stay intact. What happens if Gwen plumpson
in Florida State decide hey, it's time to take off.
Speaker 12 (01:22:31):
So there's a lot of movie pieces.
Speaker 7 (01:22:33):
And I think, uh, I think it's it's tough to
say what the future holds right now. And I think
you know Washington State's ideology and I'm circ for organ
State as well. As you just go one day at
a time. You can't worry about what happened in two years.
You got a player's on your schedule, but just in
you know, because a wrap that are to summerprise that
in a short form.
Speaker 12 (01:22:53):
There is not any any real rumors going around right now.
Speaker 7 (01:22:56):
Nothing of actuals that be substantiated. Everything's in very very
tight lift.
Speaker 2 (01:23:01):
All right, let's get to uh, the actual practices for
Washington State. Big A lot of people expecting this team
to have a pretty solid season. I think I am,
I think you are as well. But it's all gonna
start with quarterback play. So here we are, a week
and a half into training camp. Who's the leader in
the clubhouse for the quarterback spot?
Speaker 7 (01:23:18):
You know, it's it's again. It is as dead even
as it has been. I mean, I don't think either
guy has separated, And you know, I'm sure the coaches
have an idea and of course not gonna tell us that,
but I still hold too. I think zev Kalas raises
the four. I think Johner raises the season. I think
it's gonna come down to Washington State to like X
(01:23:42):
House is going to be able to get them to
the seventies hitting or today say hey, we think Matier
can get us to nine or ten without potentially dropping
the floor. So I think there's a really good debate
between the or good battle between the two. They've had
good days, they've had bad turnovers and bid an issue
for both Tier three six yesterday.
Speaker 12 (01:24:01):
Three picks today.
Speaker 7 (01:24:02):
Before were there some drops and some ship balls of
all guests, they were both pretty clear today, although at
House in a situational two minutes dri I've got picked
by Thornton on the goal line. So I think we're
getting closer. I would imagine by the time to get
in the next preekle start to have a real feel
of who it's going to be. But so far there
has not been. They have not take a hand what soever.
(01:24:23):
This guy is gonna beat the weapon the ones they're
rotating in. I think the scrimmage is probably gonna be
the big Celtale when they seem to take on that
root starting quarterback will be to open the season.
Speaker 3 (01:24:34):
Is a scrimmage on Saturday.
Speaker 7 (01:24:36):
Scrimmage of Saturday at ten fifteen am.
Speaker 2 (01:24:40):
Does if Matear's not the guy like you said, he
raises a ceiling? How much does that change what you
would project this team to do if he's not able
to beat out at House.
Speaker 7 (01:24:53):
Yeah, it's a good question. Not that I don't think
Debbie can win them games, because I do think he can.
I just think feel if with DearS, don't believe he's
a little more uh has Moore upside because he's done
totally seen what he's takes up. I think again, I
think with the Pier it could range anywhere from nine
to four.
Speaker 12 (01:25:11):
I tend to stick there or they would have.
Speaker 13 (01:25:13):
More success than four wins. But he he's a little
more erratic, a little more kind of just uh see
what you'd expect that of a third year guy, rather
than Chouse, who's very polished, very seasoned.
Speaker 7 (01:25:26):
I think he gives you a probably six to seven wins.
Four The question I would have is does he have
the home run ability? Can he make the big plays
down the field that can change games, can turn games
on their head.
Speaker 12 (01:25:38):
I think the peer has the ability to do that.
Speaker 7 (01:25:41):
I haven't seen as much of that from Metcal. I
think in regardless of who starts, I do think this
is a team that will be able to get to
a Bowl game. As he's getting six or seven wins,
I just didn't get it if I personal belief.
Speaker 12 (01:25:53):
Not what the coach defensive the team, but I think
if you're looking for nine or tenants, I think Thee's
got the better stop.
Speaker 7 (01:26:00):
But as I said, I think also was a better
spot that something goes wrong and get up. It's a toughnession.
It's just dealing work before and again Exol could surprise them.
We could get the job and win nine games. I'm
not saying that's not a possibility. It absolutely could happen.
It's just I think, but yours stoop that is a
little more of that high ox gae high upside, whereas
(01:26:22):
a little bit more of the state.
Speaker 12 (01:26:24):
Same manager.
Speaker 2 (01:26:25):
When I'm reading your stuff at kook fan dot com
and and listening to to Jake Dickard, I hear the
name Dylan Payne a lot, and I frankly, I don't
get all that excited because you just said you're just
talking about it. It's like, you know, big plays and
and explosive plays. I don't see that there. Running back
spot is there?
Speaker 3 (01:26:42):
Is there? Hope is there?
Speaker 2 (01:26:43):
Because it's just it's been kind of just hasn't been
what it was in their leech, certainly with the three
D of Monster with thunder and lightning and all that
a few years ago.
Speaker 3 (01:26:51):
What are we looking at the running back position?
Speaker 7 (01:26:54):
Yeah, I mean I think it's it's pain, it's yeown
Parker seat. It's eventually snit.
Speaker 12 (01:27:00):
It's gonna be one of those.
Speaker 7 (01:27:01):
Four guys as a starter, But I think all four
are gonna play. You know, last year and the year before,
washing Stay really relied on to Kia Watson to do everything,
and that had mixed results. He had some great games,
He had a lot of games last year.
Speaker 12 (01:27:14):
He didn't really notice it. So I think a first
Jurgian sill Fester is important.
Speaker 7 (01:27:19):
Kane is a good pass man for me that that
back Parker brings I think far and away the most.
He's the electric guy, the guy who gets the ball
in his hands. He's the most likely to go for
sixty five seventy yards on a given play. But then
you've got Plasti and slum Baker. It's third down in two.
That's who you put the ball in, the sets.
Speaker 12 (01:27:39):
Up and lets them run through guys. So I really
don't think that it's gonna end up being a very
situational location.
Speaker 7 (01:27:46):
I don't think we're going to seefl Stow.
Speaker 12 (01:27:48):
I don't think there's gonna be one guy who dominates
with Perry.
Speaker 7 (01:27:51):
I think it's gonna be all right. It's a third
and nine at the pass down, Kane's probably in the game.
I think maybe a first and tense situation. You want
to try and get a big play at my sep
Parker short yarded that's the one day. So I do
think we're gonna see rotation. I think Paine has the
experience EDS and that helps me. We're talking about a
fifth year guy or a third year, a second year
(01:28:12):
and a two frentman.
Speaker 12 (01:28:14):
But I I just I get the feeling that they
are going to play all four.
Speaker 7 (01:28:19):
Depending on who fits that situation the best, who's maybe
having the better game. I I don't see a situation
where it's takes still Parker, you're the starting back. Here's
three hundred and sixty carry, you're hitting the ball twenty
five guys. I don't think we're heading towards that.
Speaker 3 (01:28:39):
Jamie Vini, kook fan dot com.
Speaker 2 (01:28:40):
All right, the other side of the football again, looks
like as I look at here at kok Fan, it
seems like every headline is defense steps up again. Offense
turns the ball over, Offense turns it rule, you know,
turnovers rule the day.
Speaker 3 (01:28:51):
Et cetera, et cetera.
Speaker 2 (01:28:52):
Is that an indictment on the offense and the quarterback competition,
or is that, Hey, despite losing a bunch of dues
to the NFL and the draft and and everything else
last season, they actually have some guys on defense that
are stepping up.
Speaker 7 (01:29:06):
You know, I think it's probably a little more towards that.
They do have some guys who have made some plays
on defense. The other part, and this is always the case,
just with springball, with ball can the defense is going
to be a step ahead. They know what the offense
is wanning. Nine times out of ten, they know the play,
and a lot of it is the offense goes through
the motions of a kind of an installation the defense
is really true and what's gonna be want they know
(01:29:27):
the offensive plays. I mean, that's just is what it
is that you know, how how practices are slated.
Speaker 12 (01:29:35):
From the match up against one another.
Speaker 7 (01:29:37):
You know, I think, yeah, there are you know that
that is the one thing that is absolutely they are
getting picked off and way too much.
Speaker 12 (01:29:47):
But you know, some of these are.
Speaker 7 (01:29:49):
Are good, are good defense plays that I think had
one yesterday, Well he makes a diving play.
Speaker 12 (01:29:54):
That's a good play. And the tier I think it
was a year through it.
Speaker 7 (01:29:57):
It wasn't a bad ball to play on it. There's
been a couple that's bounced off with receiver fans and
it's right into.
Speaker 12 (01:30:03):
The hands of the TV.
Speaker 7 (01:30:04):
So I think it's the defense is making place. I mean,
I think they are bringing enough pressure and I think
they do have some playmakers on the back end. Maybe
not to the degree of Jayden hick so when he
had shots way healthy, but you know, I think easthan.
Speaker 12 (01:30:19):
O'Connor is washing in.
Speaker 7 (01:30:20):
He has basically had an interception every day of false camp. Today,
nephew of Jason David.
Speaker 12 (01:30:26):
Who a funch side notes, Uh, Stephen.
Speaker 7 (01:30:28):
Hall looks like he's got a sis to be an
absolute shut down corner Ka Pennant Houstin I think is
going to be a high end maybe the best nickel
they've really had since Armani Mark Brand. That doesn't seem
that long ago, only a couple of years. But uh,
you know, there's still some debate a stafety. They've got
Tyson to lant Warkton and that got Sander loss Jack
a lot of to H eight three and wils who
has get a lot of rest want He's a little
(01:30:49):
picked up right now. But I think that Stacey sis
is going to be one of the big questions. Is
kind of finalized those guys and then you know, can
you be better at linebacker? I think everyone would tell
you that line back and play last year wasn't good
enough and it was just too thin. They really had
three guys they could go with with Wichardson and Aluta.
Well now you got Tornton and Alusa, and you've got
(01:31:10):
west l Steiner and Auburn's Brown he's been in Oregon
and Louisville. And Parker McCann who was at Portland State
and then other kind of experienced guys Peter around now
a few years. Frank Cuzano is an up and coming freshman.
So I think that's.
Speaker 12 (01:31:24):
Where we'll Washington State if you gave me some of the.
Speaker 7 (01:31:27):
Pass Russ without Jackson Stone and leaving some of the
secondary and packing got Hick. I think the line packing
a good stuff, my.
Speaker 2 (01:31:36):
Man, great stuff. I appreciate popping on as always cook
fan dot com. Jamie Vinnick's got stuff all day, every day.
He got all the complete can training camp coverage, all
the previews, all the position battles.
Speaker 3 (01:31:45):
That's great stuff, great work, keep it up. Let's talk again, man, Thank.
Speaker 7 (01:31:48):
You, yeah, thanks for having me on anytime.
Speaker 3 (01:31:51):
There you go. It's Jamie Vinick over there for cook Fan.
Speaker 2 (01:31:53):

bottom of the hour four nine four five one.

(01:32:45):
is a planet. It is a very much a plan.
So and I can tell you this so far, the
answers would be hmm, pretty wrestle Jason Stark East South
Winston Junior.
Speaker 3 (01:32:58):
That's all I'm gonna say.
Speaker 2 (01:32:59):
He didn't catch that, Then go back and listen to
the podcast, go check out the show page. But we
want to give it away to someone who listens to
this show on a consistent and religious basis. Religious even
more so than Andrews, who had a hard time answering
one of the questions.
Speaker 9 (01:33:13):
Okay, let's not jave.
Speaker 6 (01:33:15):
Woman and Seagals are those that this dog bark set.
Speaker 3 (01:33:18):
Yes, I noticed that.
Speaker 2 (01:33:20):
Why you bark on the seagals, Doggie.
Speaker 6 (01:33:22):
I think it's the pompoms, to be honest, they're very sparkly.
Speaker 3 (01:33:27):
Well pomp poms. I don't see any Sorry, sorry, I'm sorry,
all right. Anyway, anyway, we're moving along. We'll tell you
about the fights, and there's been more. Really, it has
been something else today out here. Boy, they need to

is going to be a gong show. We're packed out

out here than we've had all training camp. Like the
burms packed right where we're sitting as packed. People everywhere,
women and children, dogs barking. It's like it's just an
app Luke John show here day day, on day thirteen
(01:34:03):
of training camp for your Seattle Seahawks. We'll take a break,
come back check those text messages next Andrews by the way,
heading to the ballpark. He'll be down there gathering sound information,
probably getting Scott's service for Softy and fame later on,
Sir Andrews. Have a great night covering the ball game,
and we'll check with you tomorrow. In the meantime, your
texts are coming up next
