David Margolius is the Director of Public Health, City of Cleveland. On August 1, 2022, Dr.
Margolius took the oath of office as the city’s first physician Public Health Director in over 40
years.

Dave was born in Cleveland and raised in Shaker Heights. For the 7 years prior to joining the
City of Cleveland, he worked at MetroHealth System as a Primary Care Physician and held a
number of leadership positions including Division Director of Internal Medicine.

An active educator, he is an Associate Professor in the School of Medicine at Case Western
Reserve University and faculty for the Medical Director Leadership Institute at Harvard Medical
School’s Center for Primary Care. He has been published in numerous peer-reviewed journals on
a wide range of public health topics from COVID-19 response in underserved communities and
the opioid crisis, to hypertension in low-income populations and best practices in primary care,
preventative medicine and family medicine.

Dr. Margolius holds an MD from Alpert Medical School at Brown University and a BA in
biology from Brown. He completed his residency in internal medicine at University of
California, San Francisco where he spent his last year as Chief Resident of Quality Improvement
and Patient Safety before returning to Cleveland and joining the MetroHealth System. He lives
with his wife and two children in the Old Brooklyn neighborhood of Cleveland.

Dr. Margolius’ vision for Cleveland’s Department of Public Health is for it to become the most
responsive, most trusted, most impactful health department in the country
