Speaker 1 (00:02):
And now.
Speaker 2 (00:04):
From the New York Giants broadcast.
Speaker 1 (00:06):
Team, it's John Smelk. They're red striping Daniel Jones.
Speaker 2 (00:13):
John, they're red striping Daniel Jones. What does that mean?
Speaker 3 (00:17):
I don't know what does that mean.
Speaker 1 (00:19):
It means he's the red stripe down the Giants helmet
is pointing towards the receiver he's going to throw to
every time he's.
Speaker 2 (00:25):
Tipping his pitches.
Speaker 3 (00:28):
That's I don't know what it all.
Speaker 1 (00:29):
Well, that's what they said on the TV. They called
it red striping. I wrote it down. I think you'd
be the guy to ask about it. But I think
you get to that level, you already know how to
how to avert that. Right.
Speaker 3 (00:42):
This game had nothing to do with Daniel Jones.
Speaker 2 (00:45):
I knew you were going to be heated on that.
Sixteen to twenty eight, one hundred and seventy yards, two touchdowns,
no interceptions, passing passer rating of one hundred, and I'm
reading from Giants dot com. By the way, first loss
in Giants history where they score three touchdowns and not
allow any who does this last come down to John.
Speaker 3 (01:04):
The defense didn't force a punt, and the defense didn't
force a takeaway. The Commanders scored on every single one
of their possessions. They had four hundred and twenty five
yards of offense, and offense that frankly is not very good.
And they did not punt once in the whole game,
and they did not turn turn the ball over throughout
the entire game. When when your defense allows the other
team to hold the ball for thirty eight minutes and
(01:25):
your offense only has seven possessions the entire game in
which you score three touchdowns on, this game was all
about the defense. And obviously you had the kicking situation
with Graham Ganog getting hurt on the opening kickoff, which
also through a wrench into the gears.
Speaker 2 (01:39):
So, John, what is what is the reaction of the
fan base? Because this is a loss, but it's a
it's a prettier lost in the first one.
Speaker 3 (01:48):
Yeah, but yeah, it looks they played better, yes, but
yeah correct, Yeah, Honestly, the fan attention today has not
And yesterday I took calls on the postgame show for
about an hour, and I mean, Donald, I don't think
I got one negative Daniel Jones phone call on the
postgame show. Most of the conversation is about the defense
first and foremost, and then about what happened with the
(02:10):
kicking situation and not having a second kicker active, which
I think is a little bit of an overrated controversy,
but I understand why people are annoyed about it given
what happened last year with the Jets game and Graham Gano.
But look, yes, they played better, that's great, But at
some point moral victories aren't enough, and you have to
(02:31):
win games. And they're ze and two against the team
that I think they're more talented on more talented than
and they should have beat and they did it, and eventually,
especially with a tough schedule coming up, you have to
start winning more of these games.
Speaker 1 (02:43):
Man Singletary looks good though.
Speaker 3 (02:46):
Yeah, Singletary played great, and frankly I thought, I mean, look,
if you score three touchdowns in the game, you should win,
especially if you only have seven possessions. And Devin Singletary
was awesome. He average almost sit yards for Carrie. I'm
going through the tape right now to be honest with you,
and he makes guys miss. He was really effective in
the game. In Fancy. I thought the offensive line was
(03:07):
really good in the game too. And then I'm sure
you want to talk about the play at the end
of the game. But the league neighbors was fantastic. Ten
catches over one hundred yards and a touchdown. Of course,
he had the drop at the end, which you know
was a big reason why the Giants didn't walk away
with a win. But what can you do.
Speaker 2 (03:22):
He's a rookie. Yeah, you know, I didn't have my
eyes on that because the patch are playing opposite. But
were they forcing it to the leak or was he
just open?
Speaker 3 (03:30):
No? Look, I mean he was open. I thought the
offense was pretty efficient.
Speaker 1 (03:37):
That's what happened.
Speaker 2 (03:37):
For burying that phrase, I don't like it.
Speaker 3 (03:41):
Well, well, honestly, I just hadn't heard it before.
Speaker 1 (03:44):
Like the TV, I'm not gonna make that up. I
had to look at the damn helmet to make sure
it was a red stripe on it, because that's what
they just said.
Speaker 2 (03:54):
I'm watching the gamest thing he said to me this
morning to strip. Well, yeah, I'm thinking we're gonna go
to the beach and have a John go back to
the kicker thing again? What the people want you to
carry a secondary kicker? Now, we got to give everybody
a turn in overtime. Enough with this he ki ki.
Speaker 3 (04:14):
Yeah, well yeah, well look here's here's what happened. For
the fans that didn't follow this. The Giants added Graham
Gano to the injury report on Saturday with the groin injury,
this saying he has a grain injury, but he wasn't
listed as questionable or out, so he was considered healthy
enough to play. He worked out in the pregame warm up,
so we had graam Ganol in the post game after
the game last night, he said, I felt good my
(04:36):
last kick. I made a kick from fifty yards out
and was his groin story. He said, yeah, it was rap,
but I was more than well enough to kick. So
he goes out there. The Giants, you know, they allow
one hundred yard kick return for a touchdown on the
first kickoff of the game. It gets called back gives
the holding penalty. But the problem is that the holding
penalty doesn't like turn back time and the play didn't happen.
(04:58):
When Graham Gano's trying to cheat down Austin Ekeler down
the field and he's a forty year old kicker running
full speed, and what happens to four year old men
when we try to run full speed we've hurt ourselves.
We hurt ourselves. So he pulls his hamstring and people
were upset since he had the gringery before the game,
that they didn't have their practice squad kicker active for
the game. But I think what the disconnect is between
(05:20):
the media and the Giants here, and again, I don't
know what the medical reports are on going by and
what Grahm Gono said after the game and what Brian
Davis said after the game that Graham Gano was a
healthy player. They considered him good to go, which is
why they didn't have the kicker they have in the
practice squad, which is Jude Mika Tommey. He's a one
of those international player exception guys. That's why they didn't
(05:41):
have him active. They tried to have Jamie Gillen, the
punter who did kick by the way he has kicked
in the past. He missed the first extra point that
decides that you do this, do the two point conversion
thing instead. But if you go through the math, I'm
not gonnaford you with it again, they probably only cost
them like a point over the course of the game
if you really go through it. So to me, this
was all about the defense. Much more is about the
(06:02):
kicker controversy.
Speaker 2 (06:03):
John Schmeld, part of the Giants broadcasting. What surprised you
more Tampa Bay beating the Lions, Minnesota beating San Francisco,
or New Orleans whooping Dallas.
Speaker 3 (06:12):
Yeah, look, this was an upset week two, right, I
mean I thought it was. It was a crazy week.
I mean, I think New Orleans I think at one point,
if you go back to last week, they scored a
touchdown or a field long like their first like twelve
possessions of the year or something crazy, ten possessions of
the year, something crazy like that. I mean, their offense
is off the charts right now. That probably surprised me
the most. I think we might have to reevaluate that
(06:34):
Giants Week one loss to the Vikings, given they basically
took it to San Francisco for most of that game,
So maybe that wasn't as bad as a loss as
people might think. And then you know, the Bocks, this
was a second straight good win. Maybe the Buck's a
little bit better than we think. This is when you
know week two, so a little bit early, but in
about two three weeks we're going to figure out which
one of these teams are for real, et cetera, et cetera,
(06:56):
et cetera.
Speaker 2 (06:57):
Had it all.
Speaker 1 (06:57):
Figured out last week?
Speaker 2 (06:58):
Me too, and now this week a five game parlay
last week and everything John nothing.
Speaker 3 (07:04):
Hey, well, football boys, this is why people love it
as the best born in the country.
Speaker 2 (07:09):
I agree. I might have had football Atlanta at Philadelphia.
What are you? How many? How many touchdowns you think
Saquan is gonna get tonight?
Speaker 3 (07:16):
You know? I'm more interested in how this Falcons offense looked.
They look very poor in in Week one, and Kirk
Cousins didn't look great. I think gave a lot of
weapons and I'm curious to see how this Falcons offense
looked against the Eagles defense. I think it should be
a pretty good game. See how it goes.
Speaker 2 (07:33):
So Cousins, he said last week, didn't play with a
lot of confidence coming off the injury, so maybe he'll
play better. Just En update Terry Bradshaw's hair looks better
this week than last year. Didn't look great, but it
looked better this week than last.
Speaker 3 (07:45):
Well, Terry Bradshaw has hair. Now. What happened the mock.
Speaker 2 (07:49):
That hangs off the back looked like he was getting mad?
Speaker 1 (07:51):
He looked like Dolly Madison or something.
Speaker 2 (07:53):
Erry week one. I think, yeah, so it's the it's
the Browns Sunday pregame at one. We'll pretty of you
with you John Schmill coming up on Friday. Okay, buddy,
sounds good.
Speaker 3 (08:03):
And I imagine, guys, that's going to be a pretty
ugly defensive affair. The Browns offense is not pretty, but
the defense is great. So that's gonna be a low scoring,
grinded outside the game.
Speaker 2 (08:11):
We're gonna brown stripe him. Don't you worry, Red stripe.
We're gonna turn the tables.
Speaker 1 (08:18):
I mean, the brownstripe is going to be against the
giant that we're gonna Okay, I forget
Speaker 3 (08:23):
All right, boys, that's a good one
