(00:49):
roaring into Championship Saturday right here on College Football Today,
brought to you by Bet d s I, Joe Lessi,
Rit Sermonello, Gay Maurenci, and Hall of Famer Marshall Falk.
He just broke down Clemson in Pittsburgh. Guys. I don't
see anyway Clemson doesn't not cover this matchup. I think
they roll lay in the twenty seven and a half eight.

(01:10):
I think they win by thirty or more. Yeah, I agree.
I'm all over Clemson today. I'm not really out on
a limb on this pick, but uh, I just don't
see where the fight comes from Pittsburgh. The one thing
they did well this year was run the ball with
Cadre Allison and Darren Hall. This is not a team
you're gonna run against. So I think thirty plus for
Clemson as well. I'm I'm rolling with Clemson as well. Um.

(01:31):
I think it was a month ago they were going
into Florida State that played that huge match up and
didn't know what Trevor Lawrence was going to be like
on the road. Well, I know what he's like on
the road. I understand the kid has ice water in
his veins. I think this is one of those one
of those games where Dabbo he's like he's taking the
pulse of his team and he's making sure that they're

(01:53):
ready going forward. There's no there's no fall off in
this game for them. I think I think they cover
and um, the over is definitely in play. You know.
The one the one thing with Clemson over the years,
at least for betting purposes, guys that will take the
xs and owes it out of this is it. Clemson
have have had over inflated lines and they struggled as

(02:14):
road favorites. Now this isn't this isn't a road a
road game. Um, but you know they're they're twenty point favorites.
Right now, just for the record to in ten against
the spread as a c C chalk of twenty or more.
But with happening stated, I'm gonna throw that all these
trends out the window right now. Clemson, that's you're just
done on another level and what years ago doesn't matter.

(02:37):
I think they're gonna smash them, you know, I like,
I wish I could tell you, you know, there's a
Cinderella and win one for the Gipper and all that crap,
But it ain't happening. Man. We're looking at a fifty
one one three, fifty one seven one. It's gonna look
like it's gonna look like the pit Penn State or
And in terms of the trends, I wanted to throw

(02:58):
out to you real quick, last the level times Clemson
has played outside of their home stadium ten and one
against the spread last seven games this year, they have
not failed to cover their six oh and one against
the spread. So this is a team that's not only winning,
they're winning even beyond Vegas expect to intend against the spread.
His coffers chalk of more than twenty points in their

(03:20):
last twelve games. That's that's for a point spread. But
what does that matter? You got conflicting, You have conflicting
from we say it a lot of weekends. Would you
feel comfortable taking your hard earned money and laying on Pitt,
not on this one and not even on pit on
Kenny Pickett. Should it should be? It should be. For
the record, though, if you remember Joe for the years started,

(03:41):
I said Pitt over five and a half wins was
one of my best patchet here. Yeah, and then they
got to seven. As you said, they got tattooed by Miami.
They already accomplished what they wanted. No Doozy was on
the hot seat. They needed to get to a ball game.
He surpassed that. They get to seven. I think right now,
I think they're just showing up. This is sort of like, uh,
sort of like you know one of the uh, you know,

(04:02):
the boxer that's showing up for the paycheck. They're showing
up to get punch in the face and uh say
hi to their kids on This is like an FCS
FBS open, that's a paycheck game. You're you're you're going
to know early. If Pitt cannot run the football, let's
say first three three series. If they cannot run the football,
you're going to know early it this game is going

(04:24):
to get out of hand. You called it fast setting
the stage because, like you said it, now they want
to peak, and you know, Dabbo knows these guys ain't
gonna be off the field for another month. Right now,
you go out strong. I'm telling you, I bet you,
Dabbles telling him, I want to see our best performance
city here today. I want to kill these guys. All
these guys, like you said, win every battle. So we're

(04:47):
focused and confident for the next month leading into the playoffs.
It's a Notre Dame and Notre Dame in the Orange
Bowl in all likelihood is probably what we're looking at
next Clemson, which would be a pretty good matchup. I
mean I wouldn't mind seeing that because it's a have
you ever seen that's why is a Michigan fan you
played two years ago, three years ago. It was when
Kaiser was the quarterback. It was in the rain. Clemson

(05:09):
built a big theft lead and then Kaiser came back,
had an opportunity. I believe Clemson won that matchup by
two points, three points, Lee, I think they covered let
to come back Green. It was it was it was
a wet track as a Michigan I remember that game
as a Michigan fan. Though, guys, I'm not overly crying
about this. We would have been the four spot against Bama.

(05:31):
You wanted that, though, I didn't want to get killed
by Alabama. Can't say that as a player you want. Yeah,
I know that, I le but let's just be real.
I'm being a realist. It would have led to disappointment. Yeah,
I'm a realist. Show that's what happened. People asked me,
how come you're not going to San Antonio for the
Villanova Michigan title game? Says I don't want to be
on a plane flying back after a loss. All right,

(05:51):
I have by that, well, twelve o'clock games. There's something
treating that I'm gonna turn my attention to. I like
to underdogs today. Rginia Tech is looking to become Bowl eligible.
Got a lucky win against Virginia last week. Somehow, some
way they won that matchup. Didn't deserve to win that ballgame.
But I'm taking the better defense here with the Thundering Herd.

(06:14):
They're catching three and a half. I like him on
the money line as well. Give me Marshal in the
upset over Virginia Tech. And then I like you a
B against Middle Tennessee State. Both teams played last week.
Middle Tennessee State dominated to three, But you a B.
S Twurter back was out for three games, played very
inconsistent in the first game back. This is still a

(06:36):
defense allowing only often sixty six passing yards for Dame
forty six total sacks. Give me you a B in
the outright way. And our buddy Bill Clark just had
a revenge type of situation with another you know, and
it's a fascinating game because he's a great head coach.
You'll get into it more detail and a bit. But

(06:56):
you a B after getting just you know house last
week by Middle Tech to see you wonder where were
they playing possum last week? Now home field was at stake,
though it could have been a little vanilla. Early did
not play well. He completed nine at twenty for nine
yards in an intersect. Love Middle Tennessee. I I love
some of the players on Middle Tennessee. I love the

(07:17):
way that staff develops next level talent. In Murfreesborough. There
are kids that are complete off the radar prospects from
the South. They are undersize they've never really been developed
physically or from a coaching standpoint, and Rick Stock still
is doing a good job. My quick best bets for
twelve o'clock. I like n c SA mainly because I
just I don't see. East Carolina just fired Scotty Montgomery,

(07:41):
so they're using a defensive an interim coach for this
one game that means absolutely nothing to me. This is
an NFL audition for players like Ryan Ryan Finley and
that physical offensive line of NC State. I know it's
a lot of points for a game that has no meaning,
but East Carolina just got fumped by Cincinnati fifty six
to six. I don't think there's any heart left these
kids all take NC State and one of my best bets.

(08:02):
I'd love to get the everybody else's opinion, and I
know we'll segue into it, but I like Texas. I
think Texas is a live dog, and I think they
have a shot upset Oklahoma. Love Kyler Murray, but you
know Texas. Texas is a tup to nine and a
half right now. I would take those that there's people saying,
just keep going after throttle. As a player, and you've

(08:23):
been in the situation playing at San Diego State when
b y U was the guy. You know, they were
the big boy on the block. You went in there,
you went into provo, you went toe to toe with
those type of opponents. As a player, what's the mindset
when you go into a matchup, especially as an underdog,
knowing that you defeated this team earlier in the year
by three points. I like Texas is in this game

(08:46):
because it means more to them. Uh like they Oklahoma
if they're thinking about playoffs, moving on other stuff. For Texas,
this game is big for them, like this, this this
is the biggest game to the year for them thus far.
So I feel like Texas definitely definitely will cover. And

(09:07):
this is one of those games mentally mentally, when you
are where you are as a player, when you were
talking about coming into games like that. It's so easy
for a coach to get his team focused. Were underdogs.
We beat this team already, it was it was a
great game, we made the plays to win, and now

(09:31):
we're under You can sell this to your team. It's
easier to sell this. It's easier for Herman to sell
this to to Texas um than than than than to
than to get Oklahoma up and ready to play a
team that that beat them already, but we're favored. It
like it messes with you psychologically. You almost feel like, well,

(09:52):
we should win this game, but but we lost the
last one. You know. One thing, guys too. And I
don't know if Martino I said the best bets we
have our page up, but I was gonna say a
lot of these rivalry games they're not really rivals, you
know what I mean, Like Alabama for the most part,
dominates Auburn, Ohio stayed for the most part dominants Michigan,
Texas and Oklahoma. These are close games, guyst Uh you

(10:16):
know when we have three point game this year, five
point game the year before, five point game here before
that seven point game, uh, five point game. Uh you
have we have to go all the way back to
two thousand and thirteen to get a differential of double
digits between these two teams. I'm getting Tom Herman, who's
twelve and one against the spread, is an underdog in
his career, going back to those Houston games against Florida

(10:36):
State and everybody winning the ball games. I mean at
twelve and one night and four outright, all the pressure
on the world on Oklahoma. Texas playing with house money
only a second year here might get him a big
twelve championship right in the mix, right now, They're about
to take over the state of Texas again, you know,
And I think oklahomare gonna win the football game, guys,
but you know we can. We can back door this. Man.

(10:59):
If Oklahoma up by four team late, we score a touchdown,
we get in this. I just think, you know this
is this is like the hat Fields and the McCoys.
They're just too similarly evenly matched. And and know the
pure hatred between these kids is going to be an
equalizer close football game. I think Oklahoma win a close game.
And I'm gonna be betting the over of this game.
Oh you gotta go over? Yeah yeah. Really think both

(11:24):
both of these defenses are at a disadvantage, But I
like Texas. I think Texas defense will make more plays.
Oklahoma's defense is just pedestrians. They are sometimes it's like
what are you doing? West Virginia like to plays sometimes
last week. So we're here, I and granted I'm all
in on Texas today, I agree with I think Texas.

(11:47):
This is the highest total that we've ever had between
these two things, without a doubt, and for arguments sake,
I mean we know why. I mean Oklahoma is scoring
at will. I just when I watched Texas over the
last couple of weeks against teams like Oyowa State, Kansas
slowing down the tempo, running the football, and so I
wonder you have what happened, Joe, what happened this here?
I was gonna say to what app when I played

(12:08):
the other spread type of offenses West Virginia, Oklahoma State,
they got bated into totally agree. But I think when
he lost that game, Herman lost that game to Will Grier,
he allowed Will Greer to beat him. He knows his
team still isn't built that way. With Ellen, I don't
think he's gonna have a choice though he doesn't this

(12:31):
this is not the game into Texas is gonna run
the ball. They're gonna run the ball for sixt yard chunk.
There's it's just kiddy. There's nothing like winning the time
of possession and looking up at the score board and
having point. And with Texas, I mean with with Oklahoma,
because they can strike fast. I mean they can strike

(12:52):
really fast. You you cannot play around. You have to
score on if this is that this is that game
you have to try to score on every possession. And
I'm telling you I've been in these games. There's there's
nothing harder than when when there's two offenses and you
know you have to score and let's say you have

(13:13):
to punt or kick a field goal. So you feel
even when you're on a raft, do you feel the
pressure like you do chief rams game? You're like, damn,
you gotta do this again, like exactly, And it comes
down to who's going to blink first, Like who's going
to which offense is going to turn the ball over,
which offense is going to or which which defense is
going to still the possession. It comes down to that

(13:36):
because defense in this game it's going to be a
track meet. It's not stops, right, I mean, it's more
about turnovers and sight. Yeah, I think it's Yeah, I
don't think it's stirred down defense. And put it like this,
a three and out will feel like it'll feel like
a turn It will definitely feel like if you go three,
If you go three and out, that that will feel

(13:56):
like a turnover in goal. So do you do you
go for it more than Danielle than taking the free
we need, I'm gonna says, to witness game. You need
touchdowns to witness game. A long a long field goal.
In this game, it's like, oh, yes, we scored. If
you're if you're inside the thirty and it's anything less

(14:17):
than like fix like six or less, you gotta go
on four. You cannot. You cannot just play given a
ball of Kyler Murray exactly exactly. And and to Marshall's point,
that's what Texas did against Oklahoma State in the Taylor
Cornelius They took field goals and that's why they lost
that hatch up, so it cost them by three points.

(14:39):
I think you'll see Texas be more aggressive because they're
the younderdogs. They have nothing to lose. Their nine and three.
Where are they going. There's no obviously the Big Twelve.
But if they're on the thirty five with a fourth
and two, they're going first. I love Marshall's point too,
because obviously it matters to Oklahoma. We know that they're
going for a playot spot in. But oak Mahoma has

(15:00):
won the last three Big Twelve titles, and and it's
a little harder to motivate that team Texas the last
three or last thirty, it feels like that. But but
for Texas and Tom Herman, this is a huge and
this is a crossroads moment. You know, if we've been saying,
is Texas back, everybody's been saying that, you know you're
rich winning there the Big twelve, but against Oklahoma, and yeah, exactly,

(15:24):
it's beating Oklahoma ry on top well and Texas size
cherry on top. I saw. I think they would be
the first. They would be the first Texas team to
beat Oklahoma twice in a season since that nineteen o three. Yeah,
I was gonna say early nineteen except it's kind of
decep Dave. It's only the second time, only the third

(15:46):
time they played him two times in this season since
nineteen o three. And that's like saying Pittsburgh has never
lost the Clemson in the history of college football because
they played twice and Matt Canada was the o C.
And listen, for Texas, you can't know, you can't try it,
you can't drow up any better. Though, like for for
both of them, for Oklahoma to get revenge go to
the playoff, or for Texas to win and to do

(16:07):
it to beat Oklahoma. Just I just wish it wasn't
at twelve o'clock Eastern game. This is a game that
should be like prime time. But they always played that's
the time of the Red River shootout, So I think
it's fitting. We can't break tradition. If Marshall played in
the Big you're a traditional, he would have crushed records.
If you would have played in the Big twelve back

(16:28):
in the day, or I think about it, well, looking
at the Big Twelve, it looks like the old Western
Athletic Conference whack that we played it. Yeah, that's exactly
what it looks like. Marcus Harris, did you play against Wyoming?
Marcus can't don't get him started started back that's when
they have Fennish denbo back in basketball. I remember, man,

(16:48):
but don't get like. There's like the football fields here
and when you kick on one end of the end zone,
like the ball lands on top of a church. We
used to go to. The The grass was like, I mean hi,
I'm like, why is the grass so long? Here? They
do all kinds of water the field down still didn't work.

(18:35):
We are just rolling right to the twelve o'clock kickoff
from the Big twelve Championship. Joe Lesie, Ritz Sermonello, Gay
MOURNSI and Hall of Famer Marshall Falk breaking it down.
We talked about the famer Corey Heart in our ears
right now. Is he a Hall of fame? Probably not,
he's not. He's not a hall of fame. I mean
it might be in the Canadian music always Mr Mr.

(19:00):
Oh it's Mr Mr. I don't even I don't have
headphones on. So what is it? Broken Wings? Yes, yes,
Broken Wings? Pretty good? Right? You just named the band
Rich and Yeah, well I know they don't. That's like
they're only here. Feel like a human shazam at ask
me anything. Well, I'm gonna ask you who you like

(19:22):
in Virginia Tech Marshall, I'm all over Marshall here. Better defense,
Isaiah Green, Tyree Brady. Uh, this is a kid and
Brady that stepped up last week. Rich receiving noords two touchdowns,
does have sixty four receptions on the year. But I
look at the defense, Marshall only allowing around three totally
lords per game last week against Bryce Perkins. That Virginia

(19:44):
Tech defense still broke down. They're giving up two or
four on the ground. I know they need this game,
but I don't have a lot of confidence in Willis.
I think the thundering her get the outright victory here. Yeah,
solid road dog. Marshall all season long, four and one
on the road uh this year, and I think it
matters more to Marshall. I like I like the thundering

(20:07):
herd as well, love that defense. Offense has disappointed me
this year. When I think of Marshall historically, I think
a Chad Pennington, Byron left Wine, rackem Kato. That's another
great example, CFL legend rickiem Keato. So you know they
haven't had that quarterback play this year. I thought it
would be Alex Thompson, the Wagner transfer, heard a lot
of good things from scouts about him. Didn't happen. But defensively,

(20:28):
you know Virginia's texten schizophrenic. We talked about it with
Ohio State. You know which Virginia Tech shows up. How
much does it matter? I'll throw this to Marshall. I
know it's hard for you to play psychiatrist here, but
for a Virginia Tech team that you know wants to
win the Coastal. But now is five and six need
to get to a bowl game. I know there's a
streak at stake, but how much do the kids want

(20:49):
that additional game? Do you think you want it? And
and you want to you want your kids to get
to a Bowl game. You need that six win. But
I'm with you, guys, and what show has been able
to do? Um? Virginia Tech just just they don't look
the same. They are missing key components. And when there

(21:10):
are special teams like that was that was a team
that okay offensively, a good defensive, special teams, they were
always special. It was like that you knew you were
gonna get something. Yeah, but but this gave me as
most games come down to controlling the line of scrimmage.
And when you look at Marshall defensively, they're fit, they're fifth.

(21:33):
I stopped me to run. So so now you put
all the owners on Virginia Tech to try to throw
the football, which they they they've had, they've had trouble
with all year. So I like Marshall in this game
as well. Listen, Virginia Tech costs me a lot of
money earlier in the year, guys, like literally thousands of dollars.
Are you gonna start everything? Do you do you like

(21:57):
gamble to lose or like, didn't even gambling on our people.
People want to hear about the win. I don't like
the practice. They're not gonna sit here and tell you
about the winds I mean, hey, I was not a
Washington Huskies last night. If we want to talk about there,
I don't know where I'm going in because I'm listening

(22:17):
to you. I didn't know I'm getting good information. Like
we keep telling you about all the lasses about this
can't and we keep it real here man, like, is
this this is this gambling? You want to hear some losses?
Wait until we do the NFL show more point Corey's
back in this do all right? But all kidding aside
here he's coming in hot. He's coming in hot with
the cowboys coming in hot time. I want to um.

(22:42):
But today, we talked about it last week. Guys, should
Virginia can't beat Virginia Tech, they're never gonna do it. Well,
I think that win and I think it does matter.
We're talking about a bull Street guys A pointy four
straight years. I think they get it done here, Marshall
are good. It's a nice story. I respect what you
guys are talking about. Their defense. They're also won in
TED the last eleven games against a CC teams. They've

(23:03):
lost eight straight games for Virginia Tech. Before I get it, Marshall,
are good. I do believe Virginia Tech want this. It's
a short number. I think the Hokeys get it done. Yeah.
The one thing I'll just bring up about this game
is how they won last week. Like they were down
and out with a minute left, they were down thirty
Willis threw the ball up somehow, some way, they gave
up that big play. They get the fumble in the

(23:25):
end zone, they fall on it, and then Bryce Perkins
really was leading the team and fumbled the football. And
credit uh, you know that defense for making plays, but
they stole one. Now it's like, we got this, you know,
from an emotional standpoint, we didn't play our best, but
we got it. And and they're going in a little
fat And that's the only reason why I like Marshall here.

(23:47):
That's what I'd be selling my team. I would be
selling my team on that. Guys. We found a way
to win a game when we were not playing our best.
Just imagine if we play our best, you you go
out and play so free when you still one like that,
the next week you go out and you play free.
You just have to make sure you don't make those

(24:07):
same mistakes. Now, if you make those same mistakes, you're like,
oh boy, can we get away with this one? But
I just have a funny feeling that Marsha's gonna come
out and dominate this ball game because of what you said.
When they when they've when they've played, when they've played
these teams, they've they've not one, They've not won many
of these games. I think, I think this is like
this is that that that that that next step for

(24:29):
them as a program to to prove to people like
we are for real? Isn't it? Isn't it kind of
strange to these makeup games. I have a hard time
sort of getting a feel for where the mindset is.
Kid on votech probably his friends with a kid one,
Probably those guys on pit thinking damn, I should have
went Damn man, I'm getting dressed. I gotta go play

(24:51):
Marshall here in the cold. Really we're five and six,
you know, fun days yelling otis because we suck, you
know what I mean? Like I like him more when
when oh, they gave the scholarship to him and I
had to go, he okay, now we get to face
each other. That that's that's when it really gets interesting.
Because sometimes you're on a recruiting trip with the guy

(25:12):
who committed. That has to be a lot in the
Texas Oklahoma stuff. Yes, where it's it's almost like a
check man. She takes him instead at me right in Oklahoma,
and he took him instad Funny story. I I'm at
Texas A and M I'm sitting down getting ready to
meet with R. C. Slocum. I get ready to meet

(25:33):
with R. C. Slocum. A guy walks past me, walked
out of the office. I walk in. I sit down
with r. C Um Marsha Wood. He's like, I say, coach,
you know, I wonder if the running back. He's like, Marshall.
He's like, listen, if you come here, you're you're gonna
play as a freshman in our secondary and as a sophomore,
you're gonna start at corner for us. That that's how

(25:56):
compod you are and that's what we think of you.
I said, Coach, But but but I want to play
running back. He said, well, I can't lie to you.
The guy that just walked out before you walked in.
That was Mr Texas. He rushed for twenty yards last
year in high school in the state of Texas, and
he just committed to come here. This guy and I

(26:17):
we bumped heads throughout our career from that day on.
Not only did we bump heads. When I got traded
to the Rams, we were sitting next to each other
in my first meeting and he looked at me and said,
there's not enough football here for the both of us.

(26:37):
And three weeks later he got traded to the Detroit Lions.
Greg Hill, Greg Hill, But I'll tell you this football,
his former teammate, Quentin Chorey. Y'all, yeah, I'm give me
a helmet. I'm telling you right now, helmet right now.

(26:59):
I love the fact that Marcha in the Hall of
Fame and good job, a good job. He didn't say
I could not play right here, right He just said
why I couldn't play running back for him? And in
the recruiting world in Texas football, you get, you get,
you get Mr Texas, the guy who run to commit

(27:20):
to you, You're gonna get a bunch of other kids.
So I got it. I understood. I understood. It was
just personal with Greg and I and not like not
like we disliked each other, just because I had a
competing we came out, we were in the same draft.
It was, it was, it was, it was just it
was weird. He was in Kansas City, I was in Indianapolis.

(27:43):
He gets he gets traded to the Rams. The next
year I got traded to. It was just did you
think about it when he got traded a rap across
your yes? Oh yes, oh yes. When we when we
trust me, when we sat down in that first meeting
and we looked at each other, we we remember seeing

(28:03):
each other there another recruiting visit, me and Bucky Richardson
and going Robert Wilson's personal friend. I know. But manin
so you know that that that's I'm all amped up
about nine football. But those stories, man, those things like

(28:24):
these kids, it matters when when a kid commits and
you have whether you're one, two or three, or you
four or five stars, and they give that scholarship to
somebody else because they gotta let you know, hey, look
that we that scholarships gone. Hey listen, It's been driving
Baker Mayfield, isn't it. At times I wonder what's this

(28:44):
kid's problem? How come he doesn't shut up? But he
just uses the sense of you know, I was overlooked.
It drove him, so so it's droll. It pushed and
drove him. So well that he went to the school
that wouldn't let him play it. Prove to them I
am going to be like, I am going to be
the best player you've ever had played his position. Take

(29:05):
that with Baker. It's legitimate. And what I like what
Marshall brings up is there's things that unless you're deeply
involved with it, the egos that comp you're never gonna
know about that. It transcends EXAs. But that's what makes
these guys so great. You have to have that competitive
edge and care that much. And I was talking about it.

(29:26):
You could never coach that. That's something to stay warriors fighting. Right, Oh,
they have problems, I said, don't have problems. I said,
you'll never see you know, you'll never see that on
the Tampa Bay Buccaneers aren't fighting after they don't care. Right,
winning teams are guys that care are gonna fight. I'm
sure you won your championship teams they're in the ramps.

(29:46):
I'm sure there was some disagreements. Guys got into it, right,
you step out of line, or you do something to
cause as a cause as a game, or or let's
let's just say, um, there's always those those couple of
guys on the team, Um, they're the knucklehead, Like they're
the guy that's horn blows and now you're walking onto

(30:07):
the field instead of already being on the field warming up,
getting ready, or or or the guy that that gets
the face mask or the personal following special teams to
put the defense or the offense in in a in
a in a bad situation, there's always those guys, and
as a leader, you have to find a way to
police them before they make those mistakes. And sometimes sometimes

(30:32):
fighting the core it occurs. And I'm gonna tell you this,
I've seen a different Kevin Durant since since what happened
with Draymond. When if you look at the dynamic, like
Durant is actually being more assertive and I've ever seen him,
um since he's been with the Warriors. It's it's it's done.
If Draymond was out to do something, he did it.

(30:53):
So sometimes conflict but and a lot of kids have
never been challenged, especially in this day and age, when
you go back to their high school career, they've been
fed that uns they've never been challenging. I see that
with the Jaguars, Actually, I see that with the Jags
sort of a lot of guys just sort of man,
let's stop going my way, and you know, just sort

(31:14):
of tuning everythinghow going on your own direction? Right, that's
when you start punching people. And that's just selfish stuff.
Selfish stuff like a winning team doesn't accept that crap. Right. No, No,
Every position and everybody on the team you can handle
like that, except the quarterback. Quarter you can't. He's delicate.

(31:36):
You can't. You can't treat him like you don't mess
with him. You gotta leave him. Yes, you gotta leave
those guys. I mean, and it it blows my mind
when you think about it. And I don't care what
level it is. A quarterback can't have competition. He can't

(31:57):
know that there's another quarterback. Its mess. Everyone else is
fair game. Everyone follow the ball, marsh You're not getting
the next yeob exactly. But that position you cannot. It
can be a question about who your quarterback is. That's
just that they can't handle competition. And I'm talking about

(32:17):
I don't care who it is. I don't care. I
don't care how great. At any level, I'm talking Hall
of famer, you cannot put somebody else in their meeting
room that's capable of doing the job. I mean it
bothered Joe Montana. Think about I don't care who it is.

(32:38):
They are alpha, and they want to know. He didn't
like any of the other in the room. And and
think about what Pittsburgh keep doing the bend. You keep
talking about retirement. We're gonna keep bringing young guys in
and see who and and and they found their next guy.
Ben hasn't and he recognized that this young kid is
for real. Ben hasn't mentioned retirement, not playing what nothing,

(33:01):
He hasn't said. He hasn't said one thing. They got
rid of offensive coordinated, brought new guy in. If you
think about the transition from from from when they brought
Haleyen from when arians was there, it was tough. He
was throwing interceptions, none of that, none of that. One
alpha is Irvan Meyer Uh that possibly might step down

(33:22):
at the end of this if they lose tonight in
the Big Ten championship game against Northwestern. Do you think
that's inevitable, especially with no no I think if if
if Urban is looking to retire, it's gonna happen, regardless
of what happens in Indianapolis tonight. I I don't know
what that decision. I get that. I'm I don't have
any insight, obviously, but I get the feeling he's gonna

(33:42):
he's gonna tap out. And I think he'll tap out
if if if what they say that he's he's trying
not they yell because the tumor or whatever that's in
his head, it causes, it's caused it. You you can't
coach the way you want to coach. I mean, you can't.
And I'm gonna say this, and I don't know if
it's if it's true or not, because they just look different.

(34:06):
The edge that they normally play with that they played
with against Michigan that was missing for most of the
year with that team. They don't have the swagger or
that that nastiness about Joe Nick board to do. So
I get the feeling too. And I don't want to, Brian,
you don't like mixing this stuff, but it's reality. I

(34:28):
get to I almost get the feel when I look
at Urban and everyone, it's like someone that's sort of
on trial and there's evidence coming, you know what I mean.
I get the feeling that there's more to come. There's there,
you know that they know that yeah, we can we
be the first. Can we be the first show to
like spin it forward? Okay, he's gone, it's Texas in
trouble coach. I'm just saying, it's gonna be Ryan Day.

(34:56):
And if it's Ryan Day, if it's would the successor.
If it's if it is Ryan Day, Jim Harball, It's like, oh, yes,
we are winning the recruiting war. Because if Ryan Day
and Jim Harball comes sit down, you're losing that. You're
You're that's a that's a recruiting You're gonna lose that.
You're thinking Tom Herman, possibly, Yeah, you have to. I

(35:19):
would bet money on Ryan Day. If they go a Day,
Jim Harball and all of Michigan, they are like selling
God because the recruiting war will be won by Michigan
and Harball without if you put a Ryan Day, if
you sit him down and have him talk to these parents,
I mean, just because of the lack of a resume.

got updates with bet d s I numbers right now.
Ton of line movement, the action started to come in.
We're about sixteen minutes away from kickoff Texas and Oklahoma.
The total has just crossed the eight barrier. We're up
to eighty and a half right now, as far as

(38:28):
the total is concerned, bet d s I sitting at
Oklahoma minus nine. We got line movement with app State
and Lafayette app State. This game actually kicks off at noon. Guys,
app State are now seventeen and a half point favorites.
The total is fifty five and a half. The total
has gone up to sixty three and a half in
the Georgia Alabama game. Obama is still a twelve point favorites.

(38:51):
A lot of movement in this Fresnel Boise game. Guys
been bouncing around all day and all night. Um right now, boys,
your minus one and a half, fifty one and a
half right there, and the screens flashing rad which means alert, alert, alert.
Money keeps coming in on the Ohio State Buckeyes. Ohio
State Buckeyes are now sixteen point favorites in tonight's football game.

(39:11):
A couple of twelve o'clocks that we're gonna get into quickly.
East Carolina n See State. I like East Carolina, Rich
likes n See State. I like Apps State. Lay inside
it's This spread was twenty five when they met earlier
in the year. They won that matchup by ten points,
but I'll still take the better defense. With app State
only giving up hundred and twenty two rushing yards and

(39:33):
one five through the air, You're taking the points points,
I'll take, Zach Thomas. I think, I think a state
winning game, but I don't want to lay this many points.
I'll say, is the Cajuns the one thing I do like,
I like. I like app State in this game. But
the Cajuns twice went on the road at Appalachian State
at Troy, and in both cases one lost by just
ten points, so they have been competitive. I'm with you,

(39:56):
though defensively they're suffocating. One of the better group of
five defenses. Not FI have won four the last five games,
so beating some pretty good teams, and uh, I think
they can hang around in this game. I just want
to throw out to two really good young coaches that
are gonna be coveted at some point, maybe not this year,
but Scott Sadderfield and Billy Napier at at Yeah, and
just one more. You know, I'm friends with coach Poud

(40:16):
and I'm not going against Akron on the road against
South Carolina catching thirty. They have had some quarterback issues
Bentley in the crew. I've ever gone against him personally,
I would I would suggest, don't the personal relationship you
you can't, you can't. I would never pick against him.
I'm a team player. I don't care if I should
beat it. If they're playing the rod be like, like politics,

(40:39):
you're gonna need to recuse yourself from talking about because
I'll take my day that if you do that and
then you end up getting fired. Yeah. Yeah, the hips
did cover last week bast Morrison's back, and again they're
gonna have to shorten the game South Carolina. The one
thing I'll say, South Carolina a secondary is absolutely banged

(41:02):
up there. They're beginning to use running backs like a J.
Turner in the secondary. And and I would take the
points too, simply because South Carolina obviously far more talented team.
But South Carolina hosting the Zips at this point, I
don't know how motivated exact. If you're at South Carolina
gamecock kid, you're like, who we played this week? The
acron Who? What who do we play last week? Mac?

(41:22):
Are you gotta be kidding me? On the same day
he sec Conference Championships going on? How about this coaching advantage?
You got Terry Bowden from the Bowden lineage versus Will
must chump. Huh, go with your boy. I'm going you know,
I'm not a big Will guy, just saying the cover
of the thirty points, give me, give me, I would

(41:44):
take coach pout And I'll just say this, Coach Bowden
loves opportunities against power five programs. He'd been knocked off
Northwestern earlier, parlier this year and again in these games.
From a talent perspective, might not have the best talent,
but he always has his team's prepared. And you defense too,
by the yeah, and you know he's selling. He's selling
his team on I know what they're thinking. Here's what

(42:06):
they're saying about you. This is what you need to do.
We can win this game. Like he has the resume
to say that, and and and and these kids will
go out there and play hard. Now winning the game
whole another question, but definitely that they're in a position
to cover. Well. We say it a lot of times too,
like you know that this is their bowl game. We

(42:27):
use that Aprons four and seven. This is kind of
their bowl game exactly. Their bowl game takes place in Columbia,
South Carolina today I mean we killed that bawl Hope.
You had a freshman quarterback that for three games completed
cent of his passes, and as that's horrible. As crazy
as this sound, if if, if, if, will must have
lose this game. Next year, he's on the hot seat.

(42:47):
I mean he will be yeah if if this Yeah,
one of these other weird games kicks off at new
and you have to wonder about the interest level. And
the weather is not going to be very good either,
is uh the Drake. I knew you would gonna say that, Drake,
and I was staying, well, I was staying, how interested
are these kids? It's forty one points, guys, I would
lay it. I gotta I gotta be in the spirit

(43:08):
of candor. I have not done any research on Drake.
I didn't even know, you know. I thought you were
talking about Drake like the own team Drake. I hate
the Drake. I thought he's talking about Seifeld exactly. Don't
they have a better basketball program than they do? Yeah?
Hit me, I'm realizing, how do you think of basketball, Drake?

(43:31):
Drake could be in trouble considering that they beat Maris
two weeks ago thirteen ten, Yeah, exactly, so I would
lay the foody one and a half, which it's a
lot of points in as I like unlike Iwish State,
they Ilwash State didn't cover against k State. They were
laying like fourteen and a half. They came back and
dominated the fourth quarter. But I think they tattoo Drake

(43:52):
Montgomery senior day, They're probably gonna dominate this. I mean
Montgomery could rush for three und yards. Really the only
game of noon because normally this the time I started.
I'll throw the games at you, guys, and we've got
some of the the fcs stop. But the only real
game it new. We have Texas and Oklahoma U A
B Middle Tennessee States at one thirty eastern. Excuse me.
I like Lafayette an app state as a noon kick.

(44:14):
I like the total in U A B Middle Tennessee State,
and we're gonna get the guys takes on it in
a rematch where it is a lower scoring game. Where
it was three, it was dominated by stock still in
the crew. You do have to make adjustments, and if
they did make let's say, have a vanilla type of
game plan where elderly coming back. Um, I think they

(44:35):
opened it up here because I mean, at this point,
from an offensive perspective, they're gonna need to score more
than three points going up against stock Still. In that
off the other big question Marcus Spencer Brown. Spencer Brown,
their star running back, is he's questionable for this game
to the football that entire backfield. Um, it's the three
offensive linement two that are nicked up in that in that. Yeah,

(44:56):
it's a curious game because they just played last week.
You know, Middle Tennessee dominant. Like you said, you abs
had a great season. Um, I don't know if you
A B was motivated last week. You can never It's
hard to tell. I mean, you know, they knew that
they had already wrapped up their division. Middle Tennessee needed
to win and get help, and they got it. Uh

(45:18):
love would both of that? I would take the under
in this game? Would yeah? I would you just take
the over just because of you know, going reverse of
what happened last week. I mean from a rematch perspective, Marshall,
I mean, when you do play somebody and you lost,
I mean from a coaching perspective, what do you do
in terms of game planning? I mean, obviously you only
scored scored three points. Do you switch it up or

(45:38):
do you just say you this is what we do.
You run, you run with you run to a degree.
But you have the self scout to understand where you
have opportunities because when you you'll you'll you'll run stuff
and you'll say, we normally get that normally works. So
they scouted us, they know that. So now you have

(45:59):
to play off your own tendencies to take advantage of
of them doing their homework. That's why it's always good
when you get when you get too good um teams
that they're coordinated very well. So they then run stuff
based off of their tendencies because they understand and respect
that you are going to do your homework to take

(46:20):
away X, Y and z. So so this game, this
game should be high scoring because defenses, it's just hard
to play defense on any level of football anymore. And
so college I'm telling you I watched I'm watching college
football because of the whole targeting rule. Guys are not

(46:41):
wanting to hit when they see a guy catch the
ball or any manner. I'm it's it's starting to look
like flag football in a sense. And I don't want
to answer. I don't understand what we're doing and what
we're trying to do. We're trying to be cautious for
the guys to protect them against themselves else But it's

(47:02):
so hard to play defense if you don't if you
don't get a hand on the football, it's almost you
hope he drop it because you can't get it out.
You can't defend the pass right now. Guys aren't wrapping up.
And that's why I really like the Pack twelfth championship
game list, and I kind of did too, allowed them
to play a little bit. And when you see defensive
backs that don't want to wrap up, especially in open space,

(47:24):
that's why you get sixties seventy plays. They're scoring in
seven seconds flat because nobody's wrapping up. Yeah, and I
didn't think about that too. I mean, targeting is being
called so liberally these days that I've never thought about
the mindset of a defensive player when he goes into
Actually I think it, so think about think about it.
You get called for targeting and it's halftime. You gotta

(47:48):
miss two quarters in the next game too, So that's
your bowl game. If you're a senior, you're gonna miss
the first two quarters of the last game you play
it's just if if in the NFL throw for four
in their yards every week, right, they know they're not
gonna get killed. This guy's not gonna kill me. It's
gonna be a flag. He's not gonna smoke me. After

(48:10):
I throw the ball. They're they're not nervous anymore. Touching
the quarterback face mass should not be a penalty. Now
what do you mean with like a slap like where
they hit it down? Like what happened? What happened to that? Is? Yeah,
you sho should you should just they should put some
sensors on him and when you touch him, his head

(48:31):
light up. That's wow. I forgot about the flag. You
gotta copyright that, Marshall. You just came up with the
future of all right. I've thought about this so often.
So the quarterback he's running towards the sideline, he's scrambling.
He just throwed them all the way so negative yards.

(48:54):
You know how many times I've wanted to do that
instead to take the loss, just just get rid, just right,
that's it. I always thought that was kind of down.
He's outside of tackles, so he can throw it in
the thirteen throw. Now, just think about to the sideline,
the guys coming to tackle you. You don't want to
lose the five yards you chuck it out about. I
can't take it. It drives me nuts because as a

(49:16):
defensive guy, and you like defense, you want to set
the tone. And the game is forcing offenses to dictate
the tempo of every matchup unless you can outscore opponents.
You can't dictate the tempo from a defense because you know,
if a guy is thrown for four hundred yards, what
do you do. We were taught the tattoo somebody to
stick a helmet in his chest. Can't do that. Now

(49:39):
you can't go low, you can't go high. What are
you supposed to? It is remarkable where the game has gone.
It is and and it's it's changed the game. So
and listen, we all want players to be protected. We're
all aware of CTE and the ravages that could take place,
but you know, the spearing that took place when we
were growing up, that's not what we're even talking. We
just we just saw one and and I hope, I

(50:01):
hope the Jalen Smith kid, he needs to watch film
of himself playing, because he did. He did leave his
feet with that. Yeah, that that that hit on Kamara
that was not called. I mean he I just hope
that the kid watches the film of himself. And I understand, yes,

(50:22):
I understand you want to play a certain way and
you want to be physical, but man, that that that hit. It,
I mean, you can hurt someone else, and you can
you can hurt yourself most important. And I just he
needs to watch that. But the game, the competition committee,
they gotta do something to change to get this back
to reel it in as as fun as fun as

(50:46):
the Kansas City Chiefs in the Rams game was. I
just it was like really it was like Maddie, I
was like, are you serious? And and I'll use Oklahoma
West Virginia as an example too. That to me was
was sort of like colleges version of the Chiefs and
the Rams. It wasn't just the lack of hitting and
the poor tackling, but players are just completely out of position.
I mean, I love will budder, what do you do

(51:10):
as a as a defender? I'm telling you once once
this this defenseless receiver thing happened. The eighty ninety hundry
catch receiver. It went up and and and and just
and just watch watch what coordinators are doing. They called
it the clear our guy. They'll run a guy through

(51:31):
the middle really fast and then trail with another guy.
Because that guy running really fast, everybody freezes because you
don't want to hit him because he's defenseless, and the
guy trailing you throw him the ball. They've almost created
like fake sort of block out and pick players. You
sent up a guy out, you said an the other guy,

(51:52):
and they're screwed, and then there's there's nothing you can
do about it. And that's why I like the college
game a little bit more than the NFL in the
sense of at least the past interference is fifteen yards
as well. I mean, if you're gonna I mean, because
I can't stand given an offense an opportunity on top
of not being able to hit them anywhere, we're gonna

(52:12):
give them a ninety yard you know, penalty or a
fifty yard penalty. That changes the game where we're not
forcing them to work down the field in any capacity anymore.
It's debatable, But on the flip side, do you imagine
in the National Football League if they're every freaking play
but Jones just polish er, I just I just want,

(52:33):
I just wanted to call offensive past interference as much
as they call defensive past interference, which they don't, or
or or or the push off, you know, like oh
oh yeah, and and in the Saints Dallas game, if
a receiver, if a Marie Cooper reaches back in Lattimore,
and and and and you push, the natural reaction for

(52:53):
the dB is to not allow them to create separation
and grab the hand like you can't. You just can't
allow what they are allowing. It's it's once again so
hard to play defense. What are you get? I know,
we gotta get out of here. What's it on the
other side? What do you think officiating is better in
college or NFL? What do you think has met the

(53:14):
games are managed better? I think they're awful on boat level.
I'm not gonna lie and and they don't want to
replay correct in them. Yeah, it's intriguing. When we come back,
we'll be picking up the three thirty and eight o'clock games.
