Speaker 1 (00:33):
Well, I mean, don't comment on it. I think the
golden rule applies if you don't have anything nice to say, show.

Speaker 2 (00:41):
Not the golden rule.

Speaker 1 (00:42):
Well, it's gold and adjacent. It's a bronze.

Speaker 2 (00:46):
For carrot gold version of the rule.

Speaker 1 (00:49):
What's the kind of carrot gold? You should?

Speaker 2 (00:51):
What's the best?

Speaker 1 (00:51):
Is that the best? Okay?

Speaker 2 (00:53):
So like eighteen and you have a lot of jewelry
at home? Do I? No?

Speaker 1 (00:58):
I don't for me, yeah, I don't know jewelry, like
you don't know watches.

Speaker 2 (01:03):
I do not know watches. I know I would know
a gold watch, but I wouldn't know how many carrots
of gold?

Speaker 1 (01:07):
Do you want to know a funny story? I don't
know if I can tell this story?

Speaker 2 (01:11):
Is that it about your husband? I shouldn't have if you
asked her mission, don't tell the story. Okay, let me
tell you a story. Yeah, Nicole Jensen? Who's that Nicole Jensen?
With chances are we probably you probably know her because
she was in kindergarten with me, and she lived in
that same area where we all kind of grew up.
She was my very first kiss, She was my first girlfriend.

Speaker 1 (01:31):
I don't know about it.

Speaker 2 (01:32):
Cole in your life, and I remember exactly where I
was and where she was. She was on the other
side of my lips. Get it. We were in kindergarten,
and it turned me into the man that I am today.

Speaker 1 (01:44):
That's in kindergarten.

Speaker 2 (01:45):
Kindergarten?

Speaker 1 (01:46):
What kind of kids we're talking about?

Speaker 2 (01:48):
Like this?

Speaker 1 (01:49):
Oh? Like that that's on the lips? Uh?

Speaker 2 (01:52):
Pretty sure? Wow? My eyes were closed, so I wouldn't.

Speaker 1 (01:54):
Know where I happened.

Speaker 2 (01:57):
I told her, well, for some reason, my mom was
watching her, like after school she had come over because
her mom couldn't pick her up or whatever. It was
we were alone in my room, because that's what you
do when you're five, and it was specifically in the closet.

Speaker 1 (02:14):
Why were you in the closet because that's where all
the toys where you played. Yeah, closets were really cool
when you were little. It was like your own little
private room.

Speaker 2 (02:21):
My closet had a saloon style doors, so it didn't
go all the way up and they didn't go all
the way down. Yeah, so you could crawl into the closet.

Speaker 1 (02:29):
A bar curtain there and everything.

Speaker 2 (02:31):
Yeah. Yeah, a little DJ in the corner, sure, But
that started an infatuation that I had with at the time,
Blonde Women Go to I was going to ask you
about celebrity crushes, like throughout the course of your life,
Like if you remember back when you first had and
I've said this before, the very first like naked, It

(02:51):
wasn't even naked. The first Gurly poster I had on
my whe was forty five. Was the only Gurly poster
I ever had on my wall. Yeah, which as Shelley
hack who was sort of a second tier Charlie's Angel
at one point. And I don't remember where it got choir.
I have no idea I don't.

Speaker 1 (03:10):
Remember where I got it.

Speaker 2 (03:12):
Was it given to me? Was it a gift? Was it?
Do my parents get it for me? I don't think
they would have gotten it for me unless they were
afraid that I was going down one path and they
wanted to steer me the other way.

Speaker 1 (03:21):
I always thought you liked brunette women.

Speaker 2 (03:24):
I only I've married brunette women.

Speaker 1 (03:28):
Okay, So the one that you've married, you make it
sound like you've had six wives.

Speaker 2 (03:32):
Just one. The one I was previously.

Speaker 1 (03:34):
Engaged to a brunette.

Speaker 2 (03:36):
She was a brunette, right, So I take well, I
was gonna say brunettes tend to be more calm.

Speaker 1 (03:45):
Oh no, I'm just saying, no, okay calmer. Really was
Becca a brunette?

Speaker 2 (03:54):
No? It was very light brown hair, almost reddish, actually
brown hair.

Speaker 1 (04:00):
Okay, Valentina was blonde, brunette. See that's what I'm saying.
I don't know about you and blondes before.

Speaker 2 (04:08):
None of the blonde stuff stuck.

Speaker 1 (04:09):
The cole is new to me.

Speaker 2 (04:11):
None of the blonde stuff stuck, right. It was always
like in and out, nobody gets hurt, that kind of thing.
But brunettes where the.

Speaker 1 (04:18):
Out, nobody gets hurt, that's what they did.

Speaker 2 (04:21):
That's what they did at the Louver.

Speaker 1 (04:23):
That's that's why raf what they do at the loop. Yes,
it is that what maybe goes on behind your saloon doors,
bub bub, but not at the Louver.

Speaker 2 (04:31):
But Shelley Hack was arguably my first I guess you
would say celebrity crush. After that, it kind of went
through trying to think of it like actresses or somebody
from when I was in high school.

Speaker 1 (04:46):
Yeah, I uh, I think I never really had a
celebrity crush. Okay, no, I did, well, I think, but
it wasn't for a long time. It took me a
while to get into that. You know, boys, I really
liked Jordan Catalano from my so called life. Yes, I

(05:08):
liked the fact that he was completely unavailable. I liked
the fact that he was you didn't know, you know,
it's like, what's going on in that guy's head, Like
I don't, like, I've never been into the guys that
will yap and share their feelings and the whole thing.

(05:29):
For whatever reason, that's too much. Jordan Catalana didn't speak
a simmering reason. I loved Ryan Gosling in that movie
Drive didn't speak the whole time. I find that FASCT.
I like Mystery. Mystery is good. Uh, Tom Cruise, though
I loved Tom Cruise real Top Gun.

Speaker 2 (05:46):
Oh well, in Top Gun it was like my first crush.

Speaker 1 (05:49):
And I was like eight or something seven and I
and I knew that I liked you because he's so
probably non threatening, just like good looking, short.

Speaker 2 (05:58):
Short, But they tried to they tried to make him
not look short in Top Gun. I mean, I don't
know if you knew he was short, and that I
didn't know until well after.

Speaker 1 (06:06):
That guy that I really had a crush on in
high school, same kind of guy, big smile, short, charismatic.
And then the guy that I ended up marrying, Carlos, No,
it was not Carlos. The guy that I ended up
marrying gave Tom Cruise a run for his money and

(06:26):
a few good men, Like when I saw him argue
in court, I thought of Tom Cruise and a few
good men who I also had a crush on when
that movie came out.

Speaker 2 (06:34):
Did you find yourself fanning your face during those arguments? No,
I'm pretty cool. I's something going on.

Speaker 1 (06:40):
No, no, no, what of my sixty seven year old woman?

Speaker 2 (06:44):
Yeah, at all times, at times I do. I kept
it that boy, I couldn't speak.

Speaker 1 (06:51):
Okay, I'm not Southern either. I'm not Southern, and I'm
not a senior citizen.

Speaker 2 (06:55):
You could be.

Speaker 1 (06:55):
I certainly wasn't when I was twenty five.

Speaker 2 (06:57):
You don't know that. I feel like you lose yourself
some times you don't realize, Yeah, how you act well.

Speaker 1 (07:02):
I don't think I fanned myself ever. I don't think
I've ever done that.

Speaker 2 (07:05):
You just did it. So Tom Cruise, let's discuss. Let's
discuss Tom Cruise first. The more you know about him
is the due character.

Speaker 1 (07:17):
It wasn't like the person. We don't know who these
people are.

Speaker 2 (07:21):
Okay, So then we're talking about different things. You're talking
about like a fantasy crush that Wow, I wish I
had a video camera.

Speaker 1 (07:31):
To have a hard time with this water bottle.

Speaker 2 (07:33):
This is a massive botto.

Speaker 1 (07:34):
It's a massive bottle of water, and.

Speaker 2 (07:36):
It's an entire a quart of water.

Speaker 1 (07:40):
Rands me this much glass that I can just break
at any moment, and then I just spilled it all
over here.

Speaker 2 (07:46):
I've seen you drink from a wine bottle before, and
this is roughly that.

Speaker 1 (07:50):
Yes, from a wine bottle of course I just bypassed
the glass.

Speaker 2 (07:55):
I've known you for ten years. Yes, okay, all right,
that's fair bill on yourself. Okay, we're talking about fantasy.

Speaker 1 (08:02):
Maybe the last time I drank out of a bottle
like this. Maybe that's why.

Speaker 2 (08:07):
Uh fans trying to get you to spit it out. Uh,
you're talking about a fantasy crush. At that point where
you're talking about a character, You're talking about Maverick from
Top Gun.

Speaker 1 (08:17):
Note, every crush I've ever had has been at the
point where I know nothing about the guy. As soon
as I start learning about the guy, the crush is over.

Speaker 2 (08:26):
But it's also not that that's a good point. But
it's also not strictly physical that you're saying.

Speaker 1 (08:31):
No, it is strictly physical.

Speaker 2 (08:33):
No, No, it's I don't think it is like a crush.

Speaker 1 (08:35):
I'm saying, like, when I have a crush on somebody,
it's strictly physical, and then you learn about them and
you're like, yeah, the crush is over because olden their mouth.

Speaker 2 (08:43):
Yeah, okay, there was a point where I thought, I
still think she's probably beautiful. I haven't seen her in years,
but uh, Terry Hatcher, Hatcher, thank you. I was gonna
say Terry Garr, who also was beautiful, but Terry Hatcher.
And there was a point where I made a mistake
of saying to my wife very early on in the marriage,
that's funny. I had a funny dream about Terry Hatcher.

(09:05):
And it wasn't romance. We were boyfriend and girlfriend or
something like that in the in the dream, but it
wasn't a sexual dream. I wasn't banging around with her
anything like that.

Speaker 1 (09:13):
It was what did you have a cr What did
you see Terry Hatcher in? Or was it an interview?
Was it a character she played?

Speaker 2 (09:19):
It would have to be just the timing of it.
It would have to be that Superman show that she
was in with Dean Kine.

Speaker 1 (09:27):
Okay, so did you play Lois Lane?

Speaker 2 (09:28):
Yeah?

Speaker 1 (09:29):
Okay. Was it the character you liked or was.

Speaker 2 (09:32):
It again, I don't ever remember watching.

Speaker 1 (09:35):
You don't know Terry Hatcher. She could be complete headcase.

Speaker 2 (09:37):
Right, And I don't remember watching the show.

Speaker 1 (09:39):
And you know, you only liked blondes who are head cases, which.

Speaker 2 (09:41):
Is also crazy, So it was weird that she would again.
I didn't look her up. I wasn't stalking her. I
didn't watch the show all the time. It's just That's
what was weird to me is that I had this
dream about this random Hollywood person and pointed it out
to my wife, that's weird. We don't watch that show.
Why am I having But she thought it was that

(10:02):
I have a complete heart on for Terry Hatcher right now.

Speaker 1 (10:06):
What year was this?

Speaker 2 (10:07):
It would have been ninety eight, ninety seven.

Speaker 1 (10:11):
And that was I would put money on it. That's
the last dream you told your wife about.

Speaker 2 (10:16):
No, it's the last dream I told her about with
another woman.

Speaker 1 (10:19):
Yeah, you keep that shit.

Speaker 2 (10:21):
I learned quickly, And I also.

Speaker 1 (10:23):
Think that's a good idea.

Speaker 2 (10:24):
I went through probably years after that, where my brain
would start to go into that kind of a dream
sequence and be like, we're going to introduce some new characters.
Here's a woman that you saw at the grocery store.
And my brain would go no, no, no, no, no, no,
get her out of here. Stop it. No dreams, it's no.

Speaker 1 (10:42):
It's a weird thing to say when you tell someone too.
Like recently, I had a dream about Dean Spanos and
it was because.

Speaker 2 (10:53):
I Charger's ownership right Chargers owner.

Speaker 1 (10:56):
I had gone to sleep thinking about what I was
going to wear to the game the next day, and
in my head I was thinking, well, what's the weather
gonna be? Like I could wear those gray pants. Whatever,
Go to sleep. I have this extensive dream about Dean
Spanos on the field before the game, like he is
before every game, and he's wearing gray pants and gray

(11:18):
shoes and a gray it's all gray, but like with
little white effects or accents to like like a white
striper on the cuff or like a white stripe on
his shoe. And I was like, that's a good look
on Dean, that whole gray like monochrome, Like that looks good.
I should have left it at that. What did I do?
What do I always do? I overshare mouth, I open

(11:41):
my mouth. You never feel bad about keeping your mouth shut.
I should get that tattooed. But I didn't keep my
mouth shut. The next day, I see Dean at the
game and I say, oh my gosh, Dean, do you
have time for a stupid store? He's like, absolutely, how
are you, Shannon? I said, I'm great. I had a
dream about you last night. And his face went like, oh,
you crazy bitch, Like I mean, I know he wasn't

(12:02):
thinking that. He's such a nice guy. But he was like, Okay,
you're insane. Who says that to somebody? And I go,
I know that sounds crazy, but here was the dream
I was thinking. Now, imagine me explaining this. It just
sounds crazier the more I explain it. I was thinking
about what I was going to wear to the game today,
Like why does he care? He doesn't? Why am I
sharing this? There's no reason, but I couldn't stop talking

(12:25):
because that's what I do. Oh. I was thinking about
what I was gonna wear to the game last night,
and then I went to sleep, and then I dreamt
that you were wearing all gray. I mean, I saw
like a freaking crazy person, like I'm clearly gonna get
fired next season. And I say, and I had this
dream that you were wearing all gray, like it was
all gray, but I had like little white accents to it.
And he's just looking at me like how long does

(12:46):
this last? Like? How long do I have to be
polite and listen to this crazy ass woman tell me
about dreaming about my outfit?

Speaker 2 (12:54):
Right? And when can he add in a oh thanks
and bring the hell out of that food out of there?

Speaker 1 (13:00):
Like when do I walk away? And I just kept
and I go, it's so silly, And I was like,
why am I dreaming about what Dean's gonna aware? I
should be thinking about what I'm gonna wear? And then
I just wanted to just end it all, kill myself
at that moment. But Dean, as gracious as he is,
he says something like, oh, I'll have to I'll have

(13:21):
to give that outfit thought or something like that. He
was super kind about it or whatever.

Speaker 2 (13:25):
But anyway, this week, it's.

Speaker 1 (13:27):
Always weird when you tell somebody that they were in
your dream, like it's it's very rare. It can come
across normal.

Speaker 2 (13:34):
Well because everybody automatically makes the assumption that that there's
something sexual about it, and it's a lot of times
it's just exactly. I'm sure Elmer has appeared in my
dreams as many different characters. It's just that he's not
Elmer in there, right? Why would somebody be calling me?
Who am I in your dreams? Hold on a.

Speaker 1 (13:54):
Second, who's calling you at a time like this?

Speaker 2 (13:57):
Hey?

Speaker 1 (13:59):
Who is it?

Speaker 2 (13:59):
It's my daughter?

Speaker 1 (14:00):
Oh? Hi, do you know how to answer the phone? Grandpa?

Speaker 2 (14:06):
I do? She's not all right? Well, I'll find out
what's wrong.

Speaker 1 (14:12):
Wow, Okay she didn't is okay, Handle, you didn't speak?

Speaker 2 (14:16):
What is it?

Speaker 1 (14:16):
What is this?

Speaker 2 (14:17):
Wait?

Speaker 1 (14:17):
Wait a minute, I love her.

Speaker 2 (14:18):
Su was calling on the fires.

Speaker 1 (14:26):
All right, are we done? Now? Wow?

Speaker 2 (14:28):
On that one. Yeah, I'm going toward this to handle too.

Speaker 1 (14:31):
No, no, no, he would laugh impressions. You would laugh
at that. Sometimes on the air he does stuff like
that where he'll like try to answer the phone or
spill his coffee or whatever. And I've never seen you
have a moment like that.

Speaker 2 (14:43):
Where someone called me because they love me and want
to share parts of their life with me.

Speaker 1 (14:47):
No, when you had a dysfunction involved.

Speaker 2 (14:51):
If you, I'm telling you.

Speaker 1 (14:56):
Anyway, have a great weekend.

Speaker 2 (14:59):
I hope you have dream games about Elmer in many
different characters.

Speaker 1 (15:03):
I can't wait. I'll see you in my dreams, Elmar.

Ruthie's Table 4

Ruthie's Table 4

For more than 30 years The River Cafe in London, has been the home-from-home of artists, architects, designers, actors, collectors, writers, activists, and politicians. Michael Caine, Glenn Close, JJ Abrams, Steve McQueen, Victoria and David Beckham, and Lily Allen, are just some of the people who love to call The River Cafe home. On River Cafe Table 4, Rogers sits down with her customers—who have become friends—to talk about food memories. Table 4 explores how food impacts every aspect of our lives. “Foods is politics, food is cultural, food is how you express love, food is about your heritage, it defines who you and who you want to be,” says Rogers. Each week, Rogers invites her guest to reminisce about family suppers and first dates, what they cook, how they eat when performing, the restaurants they choose, and what food they seek when they need comfort. And to punctuate each episode of Table 4, guests such as Ralph Fiennes, Emily Blunt, and Alfonso Cuarón, read their favourite recipe from one of the best-selling River Cafe cookbooks. Table 4 itself, is situated near The River Cafe’s open kitchen, close to the bright pink wood-fired oven and next to the glossy yellow pass, where Ruthie oversees the restaurant. You are invited to take a seat at this intimate table and join the conversation.
