Speaker 1 (02:23):
Welcome to the Forkerport.

Speaker 3 (02:26):
Yeah, hi, thanks for having me on the show.

Speaker 1 (02:29):
Oh my pleasure.

Speaker 2 (02:30):
Tell us a little bit for those of us that
are just meeting you for the first time, who you
are and the path that led you to these cakes.

Speaker 3 (02:42):
Yeah sure. Well my name is Manette. I'm one of
the co founders of Mosaic Cakes for a family business
based in Michigan, but you know, I have great ties
to California, having one to college there. Mosaic Cakes are
crushed up butter cookies that are folded into melted chocolate
or signature chocolate sauce before being frozen. My family is

(03:03):
a we have big sweet toothes, and so this is
a recipe that you know, my mom had and that
was passed on for generations. And it is a very
rich cake that has flavors double chocolate, raspberry, pistachio, Dubai chocolate.
There are many different variations of this cake. It originated
in Southern Europe and Asia, and you can't find it

(03:27):
in the US though, And so essentially we've taken these
cakes now something that you can't really find in the US.
They're really unique, different shape, and after giving it to
people and having them try, they usually say, WHOA, what
is this? And then where can I have more? So
they come back and so we decided we have something
here we want to share with others in the community.

Speaker 2 (03:50):
They're stunning, absolutely stunning, And the good thing is they
can be ordered correct and shipped.

Speaker 3 (03:57):
Yeah, yeah, so you can on our website Mosaiccakes dot com.
You can order it for yourself or you can order
it for someone else. They're really great gifts to friends, family,
for holidays, corporate gifts. They they're really there, really do
fit that, you know, perfect gift for for a loved
one or a coworker.

Speaker 2 (04:19):
If I can can talk through this, there there uh
a triangle shape that's elongated essentially right. Uh yeah, is
that a traditional Is that a traditional shape of these cakes?

Speaker 3 (04:37):
Yeah? So yeah. The cake is a triangular prism, which
is very strange for a cake because usually cakes are
are not in that form. That is tradition again for
this cake is originated in southern Europe and also parts
of Asia, and that is the form it's presented because
the triangle represents elegance, it represents fashion, right dimensions. So

(05:01):
that is where the cake, you know, that has been
the tradition for the cake to be presented in that
in that form, it just has its own unique flare
to it.

Speaker 2 (05:11):
I mean as a gift, I can imagine these blowing
people away to see something like this. All right, when
we come back, well, we'll talk more about mosaic cakes
some of the tradition, but also I can tell from things.

Speaker 1 (05:24):
Like the oreo.

Speaker 2 (05:26):
Mosaic Cake that there is some new twists and fun
twists on it and modern cakes as well, So stick
around as we talk more about Mosaic cakes.

Speaker 1 (05:35):
Find out more about it.

Speaker 2 (05:36):
Go to Mosaic Cakes dot com Mosaic Cakes dot com
and tell me these aren't some of the most gorgeous
edibles you've ever seen. Well, I shouldn't say edibles because
that means something different here in California, but.

Speaker 5 (05:50):
Food probably you'll ever come across. So stick around. We'll
talk more clean exactly. I's heard myself saying that, and
go California. That means different. All right, stick around, we'll
come back with me.

Speaker 6 (06:03):
You're listening to The Fork Report with Nil Savedra on
demand from KFI AM six forty.

Speaker 2 (06:10):
Happy to be hanging out with you. Thanks for sharing
your time with the Fork Report all things food, beverage
and beyond. I am your well fed, friendly neighborhood Fork Reporter.
Thanks for being here today. Any news going on, of course,
rain is right smack dab in our focus, of course,
whether it be mud slides, heaven forbid or accidents and

(06:34):
those types of things. We will keep you abreast of
what's going on, so no reason to go anywhere else.
Coming up next, we're going to talk about Disneyland and
the resorts here in the south Land. You've got holiday
season festivities going on, including Disney's Festival of Holidays, which
is a food and beverage feast for everything, both the
eyes and the belly. They also have Viva Navidad, which

(06:58):
we'll be talking about as well. And then in the
last segment, before Tiffany Hobb comes aboard, Tiffany Hobbs comes aboard,
we will go away and give We'll go ahead and
give away some Disney tickets.

Speaker 1 (07:10):
So stick around. Right now we're talking with.

Speaker 2 (07:15):
Toshiolu from Mosaic Cakes and I'm just looking at being
taken back here. And before we bring him back on,
just just listen to this little this little wordsmithing, and
go ahead and mind taste this pistachio Mosaic cake. Delightful
masterpiece made with crushed butter cookies and our signature chocolate sauce,

(07:40):
infused with whole and halfed pistachios for a nutty crunch,
finished with a smooth chocolate drizzle and generous sprinkles of
ground pistachios. Holy hell, memment, you're killing me. Of course
this is out there in Michigan.

Speaker 3 (07:59):
You say, right, yeah, Michigan, but we ship nationwide to
all all states.

Speaker 2 (08:05):
They're just stunning and just to give you. And you
can find all this at Mosaiccakes dot com. By the way,
mosaiccakes dot com. They are truly work works of art,
but serves eleven to fifteen people. It's almost twelve inches
in length. It's eleven and a half inches, two pounds,

(08:27):
eight pounces. That is a massive chunk of goodness. They
ship all the cakes frozen so they arrive perfectly to
you and they just are stunners. So walk us through
some of the flavors if you would mimit.

Speaker 3 (08:46):
Oh yeah, absolutely so. The original flavor is double chocolate.
That's the flavor that you know existed for centuries across
the world. But we introduced other additional flavors asberry pistachio
like you had red cara to white chocolate, bis Cough,
Dubai chocolate, Oreo, Hazel lunt cream, and we also have

(09:09):
our fall special flavors. These friends are not here for
long salted caramel, apple and pumpkin. And of course we
have the Variety pack for those who want to try
several different flavors, six specifically, so you get a little
bit of everything and you get to pick your favorite
flavor from that bunch.

Speaker 1 (09:26):
Wow, what a great, great looking cake. I look forward
to getting some for the holidays and enjoying them.

Speaker 2 (09:34):
Mosaiccakes dot Com. Mosaiccakes dot com. Thanks so much, mehmit
to take the time to come on and tell us
about this tradition and also this lovely cake that you make.

Speaker 3 (09:45):
Yeah, of course, thank you for having me. Really appreciate it.

Speaker 2 (09:48):
I'm sure we'll talk again. It's the Fork Report. I'm
Nil Savedra.

Speaker 6 (09:52):
You're listening to The Fork Report with Nil Savedra on
demand from KFI AM six forty.

Speaker 1 (09:59):
Now the rainy day here in the Southland.

Speaker 2 (10:01):
But we're going to bring just a little bit of
magic and a little bit of clear skies because where
Disney is, happiness is sure to follow. With me, Disney
Ambassador Jada is hanging out with us today.

Speaker 1 (10:14):
We'll be giving away some tickets. Just a little bit
hello to you.

Speaker 2 (10:18):
So you cannot say holidays without putting Disney in it.
At least in my family, they are synonymous. And boy
is there a ton of stuff going on at the resort.
You've got not only the seventieth celebration continuing on, but
all the holidays stuff.

Speaker 1 (10:39):
That's going along with it. Are you excited?

Speaker 7 (10:41):
Oh, of course I'm excited, Neil. I mean, I think
you said it best. The holidays have kicked off at
Disneyland Resort and they are happening all the way through
January seventh. So we have a lot of limited time
offerings that's inclusive of entertainment. We've got limited time merchandise.
There's food all across the resort, and like you said,
it's especially special this year because we are celebrating the

(11:01):
seventy anniversary, so it's like a once in a lifetime
opportunity to get to get both.

Speaker 2 (11:06):
So we walk in and we're going to get to
the food trust, We're going to get to the food
and all of those things. But it's almost like putting
on a party dress, because the first thing you see
is if you are entering Disneyland proper and you walk in,
you see the wintertime enchantment that is encapsulating all of

(11:27):
Sleeping Beauty Castle.

Speaker 1 (11:29):
Tell us a little bit about that.

Speaker 7 (11:30):
Yeah, So, like you described, when you walk into Disneyland Park,
you're already completely immersed into the holidays. We have decor
all across Main Street, USSA. And then as you see
Sleeping Beauty Castle at the end of Main Street, USA,
it is from all the way from the top to
the bottom, just completely decorated. We have eighty thousand lights
on the castle. We've got snow, and in the evenings

(11:52):
you can have some of that wintertime enchantment. It snows
on Main Street, which is so awesome, and the celebration
continues all throughout the park. We have a train overlays
and it also has happened over across at the other park,
Disney California Adventure. And then yeah, just all across the resort.
It's an amazing time.

Speaker 2 (12:08):
You know what's interesting, Jada, is you know, being growing
up here in southern California and going to Disneyland. When
California Venture came along, I didn't have the connection with it, right,
it was all about Disneyland. And now as I've grown up,
my wife and now my eight year old boy, and

(12:31):
now we have this new connection with California Adventure and
the you know, all the festivities carry on there. So
now Main Street was this magical place that I always
loved and now you go into cars Land or you
go down Buena Vista, and you have these new connections

(12:52):
with some of the things going on there, including one
of my favorites as it ties into food and all
those things.

Speaker 1 (12:59):
But the Festival of Holidays.

Speaker 7 (13:01):
That's right, I mean, you said it best. I think
that's what we love. We love to storytell at Disneyland
and not just connected to the past, but look to
the future. And the Festival of Holidays is one of
my favorites too, I mean you said it. We of
course have the food, but truly what the festival is
all about is celebrating different types of holidays and cultures,
and I think one of the ways we tell those
stories is of course the food. So I'm sure. I'm

(13:23):
sure you've got some favorites at the festivals. Have you
tried anything yet?

Speaker 1 (13:26):
Not yet, but I will tell you.

Speaker 2 (13:27):
We're going to the park next week and to the
parks the resort next weekend, and I will be checking
out everything that is offered at both of the parks.
And I know that you have the Disney Viva Navidad
as well going on, Yes, Disney, which is exciting.

Speaker 7 (13:45):
Exactly Disney Viva Navidad is happening over at the Paradise Gardens,
so that is a very special celebration celebrating Navidad. You
can find Mickey and Minnie and the Three Kabaios over there.
And then on select nights we have the Disney Viva
Navidad Street parties, so there's even more the folklorico dancers,
we have mariachi, the samba. It's all an amazing show

(14:05):
that you can take your family to. And again the
celebration continues all through January seventh, So definitely recommend checking
it out. And I have some recommendations for you when
you come next week for food.

Speaker 1 (14:16):
So oh yes, I want to know. I want to know.

Speaker 4 (14:19):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (14:19):
Also, so today's the fifteenth, and then you know we're
in November, so people are like, okay, we're in the holidays.
How as an ambassador is a Disney ambassador in Jada,
how early are you tasting or experiencing some of the
things as they want you to become familiar so you

(14:41):
can share with us.

Speaker 1 (14:42):
How early are you in on this stuff?

Speaker 4 (14:44):
That's a great question.

Speaker 7 (14:45):
You know, what I think is so special about Disneyland
is the heart of everything is our cast members So
what's really cool is our cast members.

Speaker 4 (14:53):
We actually got to have a.

Speaker 7 (14:54):
Bit of a preview, so we all got to get
together the night before we kicked off the celebrat on
the fourteenth, just a couple of nights ago, and we
got to see a Christmas fantasy all together, which was
awesome because again, our thirty six thousand customers, they are
the heart of our celebrations. So I'm glad that we
all got to see that together. And as an ambassador,
that's the story that I tell, and for myself, I've
been I've been at the resort for about eight years,

(15:17):
so the holidays are super special to me. So I've
tried a lot of the foods and been on the
attractions quite some time. Grew up in southern California, so
I'm pretty familiar with you know, what we get to
share to the world every year, so I'm excited to
see even more people make some memories with us.

Speaker 2 (15:32):
I got to tell you, I'm having the pleasure of
chatting on air and off with many of the ambassadors.

Speaker 1 (15:39):
I love hearing the stories. You've been with Disney for
eight years or more right.

Speaker 7 (15:43):
Eight years this month actually, so like five days it'll
be my my mouse Aversary, as we like to call it.

Speaker 4 (15:49):
Yeah, and I started in car mouse Aversary, so cheat.

Speaker 7 (15:55):
You never heard it come on in the many years.

Speaker 1 (15:59):
Yeah it Disney geek. I don't think I've.

Speaker 4 (16:01):
Ever heard that one. Maybe it's an inside scoop.

Speaker 2 (16:03):
Yeah, but you you started, like on the rides right
as an operator.

Speaker 4 (16:07):
I did. Yeah, I'm glad you're I loved that.

Speaker 7 (16:08):
Yeah, in attractions over in Carsland, Luigi's it was actually
Luigi's Joy to the World because I started during the
holiday season. So every year I get so just nostalgic
and geeked out over getting to see more, more cast
members experience it, more guest experience it. So I'm really
excited that this year we'll get to continue that tradition.

Speaker 2 (16:27):
It really is, you know, much as it's overused when
it comes to Disney. All things Disney is the magic
and it's one of those things that my family relishes
in and our connection is we're pass holders and as well.
But it doesn't stop at the parks, the hotel properties,

(16:49):
the downtown Disney. Everything is filled from the you know,
the planters that line the planter boxes that line Downtown Disney.
Knew some of the best, most fantastic food right now
as they continue to turn things up on the culinary
scene there. What are some things that do you want

(17:11):
people to know about that which is just outside the
doors of the parks like they're in Downtown Disney.

Speaker 7 (17:18):
Yeah, well, you know what's special about this year, Like
we said, it's the seventieth anniversary year, So we've been
talking a lot about like where we have come from
and how it's encouraging us to where we go to
the future. So you know what starts. One park has
now become two parks. We have Disneyland Park, we have
California Adventure Disney Californy Adventure, and then we have three
hotels the Downtown Disney District And as you said, the

(17:41):
celebrations not just in Disneyland Park. You can come to
Downtown Disney District to see the limited time decor, you
can pick up your merchandise there, you can find the
trees and different opportunities and experiences in some of our hotels.

Speaker 4 (17:54):
Like you said, we.

Speaker 7 (17:54):
Have amazing dishes being served at all of the restaurants
and it's just a really special, magical time. Definitely again
encourage you to bring kids of all ages. You can
bring your eight year old, you can bring your grandma,
you can whoever it is that you have in your life.

Speaker 4 (18:09):
We have the experience there for you.

Speaker 7 (18:11):
And again you don't just have to go into the park,
so you can also experience it in the downtown Disney
district and the hotels as well, and.

Speaker 1 (18:17):
The hot Tip Goofy's kitchen. That's all I'm saying.

Speaker 4 (18:19):
Oh, of course, yeah that yep.

Speaker 2 (18:22):
So good and so fun and being able to hang
out with the characters as well. So much going on there,
including Santa Claus of course, making visits around the resort,
photo opportunities and more.

Speaker 1 (18:35):
Can't recommend it enough.

Speaker 2 (18:36):
You know how I feel about Disneyland, Jada, Thanks so
much for taking the time. Happy holidays to you, my friend,
and I look forward to us bumping into each other
at the park.

Speaker 4 (18:45):
Me too.

Speaker 7 (18:45):
Happy holidays to you, Neil, and for all of you
out there listening. Just we can't wait to welcome you
at the resort. Make sure you check out Disneyland dot
com and download the Disneylan apps you can plan your day.

Speaker 4 (18:55):
We're so excited to celebrate the holidays with all of you.

Speaker 1 (18:58):
Disney Ambassador Jada, Thanks so much, my friend, we'll talk again.

Speaker 6 (19:12):
You're listening to the Fork Report with Nil Savadra on
demand from KFI AM six forty.

Speaker 2 (19:20):
Happy Saturday to you, A rainy one indeed, as the
Southland takes on this massive storm going through some areas
more than others, praying that it doesn't cause any more
damage to the firescarred areas from January. They're in Altadena
and Pacific Palisades. Of course, the mountains are always susceptible

(19:40):
to you know, mountain slides and things like that, so
we're hoping for the best. But if you need to
know about it, you will hear about it here with
the KFI News Department.

Speaker 1 (19:51):
So go nowhere all.

Speaker 2 (19:53):

zero one five three four eight hundred five to zero
one five three four colored number three. And was there
a call that you wanted me to play before we
talked to Tiffany? Hello, Buehler, I'm here, but I don't

(21:25):
know you'd be here. I can trust you, I'm loyal.
It's that other one I don't know the dingy one.

Speaker 8 (21:30):
I think Mario is just so taken by you right now, Neil.

Speaker 1 (21:35):
Yeah, well that happens. Ye, I'll get that a lot.

Speaker 2 (21:37):
Get l Well, I'd rather hear your lovely tones, my
dear friend. I do not make it a secret that
I adore you and I think you're awesome. So yeah,
well that's very sweet.

Speaker 4 (21:50):
You're welcome.

Speaker 1 (21:52):
But I would love to know what you're talking about
today and what you're going to be given the people
on this rady Saturday.

Speaker 8 (22:00):
We're gonna talk about rain. That stuff, right is, LA
doesn't operate well. Southern California doesn't operate well. It shuts down.
We should just shut it all down and go to automation.
But it's raining. We're gonna talk about the rain. Good news,
continued news about the rain as well. Today WEIMO is
actually launching their highway program, their freeway program, a very

(22:24):
convenient data launch for any of you who would like
to try that out and ride away MO Today in
the rain, LA is reforming its rent control for the
first time in forty years. We're gonna get into that
for our deeper dive segment. There's a very popular surgery
it's a not a usual surgery. It's about changing your
eye color. We're gonna talk about why it's gaining in

(22:45):
popularity and of course the risks to that, although some
say the rewards are greater. We have our scammers gonna
scam segment, and then we're gonna finish with what would
you do if your HouseGuest was secretly using your perfume
or cologne and you caught them. There's a story going

(23:05):
viral about that exact situation. So a lot of updates
to the local news. Rain, Rain, Rain, and a bunch
of fun stuff in between, you know, keep the.

Speaker 1 (23:15):
Crap stuff out. Yeah, the guests. Yeah, you know what
you do. This is really fun.

Speaker 2 (23:20):
If you have people over and you, you know, think
they might be going through your medicine cabinet, you make
fake labels.

Speaker 1 (23:31):
You make fake labels about let's just say like.

Speaker 2 (23:35):
I don't know to you, Yeah, you know, keep certain
appendages from not growing too large, or certain things like
that that would be very personal but also flattering.

Speaker 1 (23:45):
Yeah, and so they would be like, oh my gosh,
they have to take this. Yeah. Yeah, it's so much, man,
so much. It's so And then you'll know.

Speaker 2 (23:55):
If they look at your stuff because they won't be
able to scare you out their runs.

Speaker 4 (24:00):
That's very specific need.

Speaker 1 (24:02):
This is something to suppress his superpowers.

Speaker 8 (24:05):
When I came to your house, Neil, when I looked
in your I didn't see that in your medicine cabinet.

Speaker 1 (24:11):
Oh my gosh, she's got something in here to suppress
her X ray vision. That's weird.

Speaker 2 (24:15):
Just whenever anybody walks out of your bathroom, just scan
them up and down.

Speaker 1 (24:19):
Smile, wink, Yeah, good for you. Just really weird stuff
in there, or you know, doctor Juckle, mister Hyde potions
or something.

Speaker 4 (24:32):
Oh that's a great idea.

Speaker 6 (24:33):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (24:34):
See, you'll know if they go in there, just plant
weird stuff.

Speaker 8 (24:37):
And if you never talk to them again, then you'll
also know. It's pretty telling.

Speaker 2 (24:41):
I imagine it's like, don't do this anymore because it's
not as funny. But back in the day, to a
great pickup line to find out if a woman had
a sense of humor.

Speaker 1 (24:50):
Is hey, do you like to be choked? And do
you need a ride home?

Speaker 4 (24:56):
Neil.

Speaker 2 (24:58):
It sounds horrible today, but back in the day, you'd
be able to fight out if somebody.

Speaker 1 (25:02):
Had a sense of humor. Let me tell you something.
Some women don't try.

Speaker 8 (25:07):
And fit that on a label and put that in
your medicine cabinet.

Speaker 4 (25:10):
All right, my wife.

Speaker 1 (25:11):
Would think that was funny.

Ruthie's Table 4

Ruthie's Table 4

For more than 30 years The River Cafe in London, has been the home-from-home of artists, architects, designers, actors, collectors, writers, activists, and politicians. Michael Caine, Glenn Close, JJ Abrams, Steve McQueen, Victoria and David Beckham, and Lily Allen, are just some of the people who love to call The River Cafe home. On River Cafe Table 4, Rogers sits down with her customers—who have become friends—to talk about food memories. Table 4 explores how food impacts every aspect of our lives. “Foods is politics, food is cultural, food is how you express love, food is about your heritage, it defines who you and who you want to be,” says Rogers. Each week, Rogers invites her guest to reminisce about family suppers and first dates, what they cook, how they eat when performing, the restaurants they choose, and what food they seek when they need comfort. And to punctuate each episode of Table 4, guests such as Ralph Fiennes, Emily Blunt, and Alfonso Cuarón, read their favourite recipe from one of the best-selling River Cafe cookbooks. Table 4 itself, is situated near The River Cafe’s open kitchen, close to the bright pink wood-fired oven and next to the glossy yellow pass, where Ruthie oversees the restaurant. You are invited to take a seat at this intimate table and join the conversation.
