It's k IF. I am sixforty and you're listening to the Conway Show
on demand on the iHeartRadio app.Maybe you woke up this morning, maybe
you got the news later on?Did Sam Rubin entertainment host entertainment, huge
celebrity himself with KTLA, also thehost of the Critics Choice Awards, Very

(00:24):
very influential in the Critics Choice Awards. I remember he'd always called me up
and try to get, you know, celebrities to come into the Critics Choice
Awards. He called me a coupleof years back and said, hey,
how well do you know Paul ThomasAnderson. I said, oh, I
know him very well. I wasat his house when he was born.
I was at his house when theybrought him from home from the hospital.

(00:46):
I don't know how you know aguy much longer than then. And he
says, hey, could you callhim and ask him to come on the
Critics Choice or call into KTLA andI'm talk about the Critics Choice Awards.
I said, yeah, but Iguarantee you he probably won't. I mean,
he isn't really, He's really aprivate guy. He hasn't really,
you know, come out and talka bunch about Awards if you know Paul

(01:07):
Thomas Anderson. And but Sam Rubenwas not always nice to aazon on his
h on the morning show in KTLA, and here is some audio. We
had a kid named Jack Chavzon. And again, whenever we had kids on
the air, we always asked, you know, what's your favorite thing about

(01:27):
mom or dad? And kids wouldsay, oh, my dad takes me,
you know, to soccer practice,or my dad bought me a model
train, or my mom, youknow, I bought me a nice Christmas
gift. But this one kid comeson Jack Shavis and said, I like
to thank my mom because she feedsme and puts a roof over my head.

(01:48):
And I don't know why that struckme, but a lot of people
on KFI listening like, what agreat kid this is. This kid was
brought up right and and he'd gogone through some physic challenges. His father
recently had passed away, and hisfather was a big KFI fan. He
would listen to KFI in the hospitalin his last days. And this kid

(02:10):
said he his dream was always togo to Disney World. So we were
passing a hat around the station wantingto raise enough money to send him to
Disneyland. No, you know,we couldn't possibly raise enough money around here
to send him to Disney World. And then we got calls and emails saying,
hey, can the listeners jump inon this. I said, oh
yeah, I mean, I don'tknow how much interest there is. But

(02:31):
we put together a GoFundMe and andsaid if anybody wants to donate, and
we gave out the GoFundMe address andin two days, sixty five thousand dollars
was raised to help this kid outin two days, and we finally cut
it off because there was so muchmoney. We were embarrassed by how much
money it was. We thought it'dbe you know, maybe two thousand dollars

(02:53):
over a course of a month. It was five thousand dollars in the first
fifteen minutes. First fifteen minutes. So Sam Hattison KTLA to talk about it,
and here's the audio. The audiois not great. We've played great
audio in the past, so youknow we're capable of it. But this
is not great audio, you know, quality wise, But it's what's being

(03:15):
said that's great. All right, let's play here. We go to come
to Junior and I've been friends foryears and years and years. The only
time I've ever known of him tocry is what a particular pony doesn't come
in. But not the case. The other day. You're just bunding your
own business doing you're highly rated andsuccessful ending radio show, and what happens,

(03:38):
Well, the microphone fell off.So I had to find the microphone
and put it back on my jacketand never skipped a beat, like the
pro that I am. What happenedwas a kid calls us up and he
tells us that his father passed awaythree years ago. And we always thought

(04:00):
let the kids on the air, because back when I used to call talk
radio when I was thirteen or fourteen, they never let me on. We
said, you got be eighteen ofbeyond talk radio. I said that if
I ever get a job and talkradio, all the kids can come on.
Now there's way too many kids talk. But so he calls up and
he says, father died three yearsago. And we always ask the kids,
what do you like most about yourmom or dad? And he says,
I love my mom because she feedsme. Now that's never happened when

(04:25):
we talk to kids. That meansthere's very little money in the house and
he's grateful for everything. You knowwhat, We're gonna play a sample of
this, a little bit of thephone call that was actually hurt on the
air last week. You won't believewhat happened after the call. Listen to
this. I'm dad raised a goodkid. Mom. Dad isn't here,
right, but mom is. Yeah. Why don't you tell us why?

(04:45):
Oh, your dad's in heaven?Yes? And can you tell us why?
Your mom is the greatest mom inthe world. She is the greenish
one because she loves me so muchand she'll feed me and do anything she
can to seek care of me.Hello, Hey, you're doing a hell
of a job raising that kid.Thank you very much. I mean,
that is sensational. I know thatyou know the you've gone through personal problems,

(05:09):
but that, I'm sorry, agreat job raising. Wow, that
really struck you. Why didn't itstrike you so much? I don't know.
I have I guess now that Ihave a daughter. When you hear
kids like that who say they're justgrateful for food, when all these other
kids you're talking about iPhone Sixcess oriPhone seven, it really makes you think

(05:31):
that you know, they're kids outthere that need more attention. Than you
know, guys, the kids inthe Apple store, all right, and
the story did not end there. What happened exactly. So we're going to
pass a hat around and raise acouple hundred bucks for a birthday gift for
him. And we said, youknow, let's do it big. Let's
say if the audience wants to getinvolved, and Cafi has got a tripic
audience. They always show up forstuff like this. And we put up

(05:54):
by a GoFundMe page thinking raise itwill raise five thousand dollars in two weeks.
It's almost at forty thousand dollars.Oh my god, I mean it's
unbelievable. Last time I checked itwas at thirty nine or thirty eight thousand
dollars. The first five thousand wasraised in the first ten minutes of the
show. Well, unbelievable. Andthen your greatest audience ever, Jack was
on your show and you shared thatnews with him. What was that like

(06:15):
exactly? And he was floored. But you know, originally he called in
just to win Pharaoh's your certificates forice cream. So we said, hey,
you got almost forty thousand dollars comingyou and he said, well,
where are the far All Stuf. That's a true story. We raised sixty
five thousand dollars and this kid camemint Jock shout Jack Chappie and he goes,

(06:40):
oh that's great. He goes, you guys still have any more of
those Pharh certificates. That's the trueI forgot it. I forgot about that
part of the story. That's Claziccertific it's for ice cream. So we
said, hey, you got almostforty thousand dollars coming you and he said,
well, where are the far AllStone? Yeah, I still donate

(07:03):
to Jack and his mom, Carol, you could visit the gofundmea all right,
So Sam Rubin very nice to haveus on. You know, it
was a local, you know,a little tiny story and Sam you know,
saw it or heard it on theair and had us on and that
was really cool. Sam Rubin sixtyfour years old. And I don't think

(07:23):
KTLA since one o'clock when they cameon and announced it, and they want
everyone a KATLA wanted to make surethat the kids and the mom and the
ex wife knew about Sam's passing beforethey did anything. And they've been on
wall to wall since one o'clock,so four hours and fifteen minutes, and
I've not heard or seen them doany other news stories. It's a huge

(07:44):
tribute going on right now to SamRubin. And they've brought in all the
anchors, all the people that usedto work at KTLA, people that knew
him, people that are no longeron KTLA, people that currently work for
KTLA, and everybody. Is agreat Sam Rubens story, everybody. And
so if if you miss it onKTLA, I'm sure it's gonna be up

(08:07):
on YouTube and you can watch it. But just a real tribute to a
really great guy. All right.Steve Gregory is coming on with us talking
about the homeless fires. That's abig story here in southern California, and
Steve Gregory is on it, whichmeans it's a legitimate story. That guy
only does legitimate stuff. You're listeningto Tim Conway Junior on demand from KFI

(08:31):
AM six forty. All right, speaking of TVs meals and chairs, Steve
Gregory joins us, how you bubbest intro I've ever had? Is that?
Right? Do you remember when youused to play the intros? It
used to be the the NFL announcer. That's right, Steve Gregory now number

(08:56):
foot the Cregory. I don't knowwhy we stopped doing that. I don't
know. All right, So homelessfires, big time ding dong or no
ding dong, I don't know, are happening all over the place. And
some stats from the La City FireDepartment show that there were four thousand fires
last year that had some sort ofa nexus to a homeless camp or a

(09:18):
homeless person. And how are theystarting? Are they stealing electricity or are
they barbecue? Yeah? And youknow NBC just did a recent report on
that too, where they were tappinginto the uh, you know, the
city's power grid, you know, via these these little these containers that are
that are recessed into the concrete, into the sidewalks or to the power pedestals

(09:43):
or what have you. But astory I had done a couple of years
ago with an arson investigator, theywere also a lot of these fires start
because they set up these portable powergenerators built they have full generators and car
batteries. Wow, And they usethose as they're portable power source. And
of course if it's you know,if they don't have the wattage figured out,

(10:07):
and you know, they don't haveit all. And then a lot
of times they put power strips onthere, and then they overload the power
strips. Yeah, then it sparks. And then they're typically in an area
where there's dry grass or brush nearby, so the fire starts. But the
intentional fires that start are usually forwarmth or for cooking food. Sure,
and when that happens a lot oftimes they're not doing it with you know,

(10:28):
the regular campfire rules where you're supposedto have the rocks and you're supposed
to have the defensible space and allthat around, right, But these guys
are famous or notorious for not reallyyou know, going along with society's rules.
No, I mean, in thisparticular case, they're not following any
of these safety protocol that's necessary fortheir owner containment women. So, as

(10:52):
a result, the fire department LaCity Fire more than seventy percent of all
their fire callsst year were to ahomeless camp. Is that right? Or
to a fire caused by homeless person? Wow? More than seventy percent.
Wow, that's a lot. Yeah. Now, the four thousand figure La
City firefolks told me that that isalmost double what it was in twenty twenty

(11:13):
two in terms of those fires notgoing in the right direction. No so.
And if it's for whatever reason,it's determined that the fire that started
under the ten Freeway that shut everythingdown for a few days, was that
a homeless fire. If it's determinedthat that was the result of that,
that's going to be that won't bodewell for politics. Right? What could

(11:37):
we do? I mean, youknow, buy fire extinguished for extinguishers for
all these cats. It's funny yousay that because a firefighter from an agency
that I will not tell you becauseI don't want to get them in trouble.
But they say they're want to richyour white helmet. I don't want
to risk my white helmet. Butit wasn't that agency. But I will
tell you that they said, isn'tit funny that we will provide free condoms

(12:00):
and free needles, but we won'tgive any kind of fire suppression equipment to
these these encampments. Never thought aboutthat, You're right, yeah, yeah,
less condoms, more fire extinguisher something, because the condoms aren't causing death
and destruction, but the fires certainlyare. That's right, man. I
I sort of am shocked that.I mean, the fire's thing is horrible.

(12:24):
But how many of these homeless guysare living in tents and and need
condoms. You would think that, you know, that that's rock bottom.
They'd be worried about getting pulling themselvesup from that and not, you know,
enjoying themselves. Well, I wouldimagine that it doesn't matter your situation,

(12:45):
your domicile situation. I would imaginethat urges or urges I guess,
right. Well, then I justsaw the report from the health department that
hepatitis. There's a huge hepatitis rightnow in that community. I just saw
it just a few minutes ago, hepatitie appatitus A. I think, oh,
it's a really bad one. Yeah, that's terrible. And that's from
a combination of poor hygiene and needlesharing. Is that right, Yeah,

(13:09):
poor poor hygiene and needle sharing, ding dog and no fire extinguishers. Ohn,
So I think the solution is fireextinguishers. You know, we have
I have three or four men atthe house in case anything happens. I
have one right next to the bed. I have one. I don't have
one next to the bed, butI have one in my kitchen, and
I have one in my truck andand then I have a fire blanket.

(13:31):
Do you do you keep them updated? Because the fire extinguishers, like five
or six years old is worth nothing. I look at the gauge and it
tells you when it needs to berecharged or if it's expired. And you
can't test them. You know, either they're on or they're off. Have
you ever deployed one? No,it's fun. It's fun. I mean
no, just like not for real, not in real life, but like

(13:52):
oh in fun, like in funlike height or something like that, Like
it's fun. Do you remember theold fashion one? They're like three feet
all heavy, were brass, Yeah, yeah, and they I think they
had I think there was a soda. I think there was like water baking
soda and water. Yeah. Ithink it was some baking soda in water
combination or something like that, andit comes out like a urine stream.

(14:13):
Yeah, yeah, thin and everythingyou like that. I have a I
know we're on a hard break here, whatever. But when I was in
college, that was the trick weused to do. We used to fill
those because you could do them andthen energize them or pressurizer and then in
the in the frat house. Iwas at the sorority that was next door.

(14:33):
The young women would like to sunbathewithout their tops on, and they
were laying face down on the blankets, and we would spray the cold water
from the second floor so they'd haveto jump up. That's wild, buddy.
I mean I didn't do that,but I mean that's what I heard
Krozier. I win, I winto bed damn. Yeah. I bet

(14:54):
Crozier that you would start talking aboutthe homeless fires and we'd quick go into
you spraying topless chicks with water.I win you twenty bucks. Groach,
pay up. All right, Thanksfor coming in, buddy. Always a
pleasure, A giant stud. You'relistening to Tim Conway Junior on demand from

(15:18):
KFI AM six forty. Sam Rubenpassed away. We remembered him in the
first hour between four and five pm. If you want to go back and
podcast that, listen to the podcastgood friend of ours. Sam Ruben passed
away today, age sixty four.Uh. We've got some other news going
on here. There was a hugefight at a subway. You know.

(15:41):
I noticed that my I have atwenty four hour subway that I go to
in Burbank Sandwiches. Yeah, sandwiches, and for some reason they closed.
I mean they're They're not open twentyfour hours anymore. Bump me out.
So I'm a late night eater andthey close in early. I don't get
it. I don't get it.But this guy wanted more meat on his

(16:02):
sandwich. I'm with him. I'mso far, we're even Stephen. I'm
with him on that. But here'swhere we part ways. I usually buy
more meat or will take the sandwichthe way that they gave it to me.
This guy decided to take some action. He is an action guy.
I'm not. He is a customergoes on the attack punching a subway worker

(16:26):
and the reason DELI meat. Igo, what are you gonna do?
Hit me over ham? Me?He punched me. All I could remember
is just black. Wow. Hepunched her over ham. Wanted more of
that ham. Monique Lario says theman went after her because he wanted extra
ham, even though he didn't payfor it. Lario says he punched her

(16:48):
in the face, only stopping whenhe was tackled by a customer and other
workers. You know that's not theham that you punch people in the face
over. If you're at arch Delior Canters or Nate. Now's I can
get. I understand that. Youknow, really good ham. That's not
punchable ham. When you got that, when you got that, lady Barracho
Ham that's on the on the littlerack there, and there's slice, just

(17:11):
a slight little piece that's worth punchingsomebody, not this ham. Though.
I did not deserve this at all. I was in there just doing my
job. There is nothing wrong. But the sandwich was made to where our
subway standards. Wow out to thesubway standards the subway. The sandwich was

(17:33):
made, yes, and it hadstandards to wear our subway standards. Being
dong with this guy. Wow.Mario so sail out on leave and says
that she's scared to go back towork. George Sandival was arrested for battery.
All right, Mother's Day is thisweekend, not tomorrow, but the
day after tomorrow is Mother's Day.This is Friday, right, We're in

(17:56):
Friday, indeed, so tomorrow's Saturdayand then day is Mother's Day. So
we got to get out there, got to at least get to Pavilions,
Bonds Ralphs and get her a plantor some flowers, maybe a nice uh,
I don't know, a dress that'dbe nice dress, yeah, a
piece of jewelry, a hat,all right, maybe, I don't know.

(18:18):
It's an outfit her. Yeah,go to what you know does the
store and get outfits. It isgoing to be a busy weekend here at
the California Flower Mall. Today's MexicanMother's Day and Sunday, of course,
the traditional American Mother's Day. Sowe're going to have hundreds of people coming
in to get something special for theirmom. And right now, I wonder,
well, I didn't know there wastwo different Mother's Day. There's Mother's

(18:40):
Day, I guess in America,and then there's Mexican Mother's Day. I
was unaware of that. Yeah,I didn't know there was two. It
is going to be a busy weekendhere at the California Flower Mall. Today's
Mexican Mother's Day. Today is MexicanMother's Day. Today's Mexican Mother's Day.
And Sunday, of course, thetraditional American Mother's Day. So we're going
to have hundreds of people coming into get something special for their mom.
And right now I want to bringin Mark, the CEO of the California

(19:03):
Flower Mall. You know, wewere talking earlier about these Mexicans do it
right, you know, just workingin on a Friday, you know,
so it's just sort of part ofyour Friday. We do the whole Sunday.
A lot of pressure to spend thewhole day, whole day of doing
something with the Mexican Mother's Day.It's just like, oh, yeah,
I work today, I'm going tothe movies tonight. Here's the yeah shirt

(19:26):
I noticed. You know, Sophie, being the age that she is,
she's kind of reaching that point whereyou don't have to do anything for her
mom anymore. One hundred percent.Yeah, yeah, no, I'm out.
The most you do is just like, hey, you need a couple
of bucks to get something for yourThat's right, let me know. Otherwise
I'm out and I'll go to themall with her and help her pick something
out. But you're right, I'mno longer the quarterback that is in your

(19:47):
rear view. That's right, that'sright, dude. Contrary to popular belief.
Obviously, Valentine's Day very important, but this is your Super Bowl Mother's
Day. Yes, it is MexicanMother's Day. And then the traditional Mother's
Day is our super Sunday literally ofthe floor industry. Really, I would
thought I would think it was Valentine'sDay, But Mother's Day is bigger than

(20:07):
Valentine's. Then, Oh okay, seventy five percent of people are going to
buy flowers for their mother on thisbetween of these next four or five days.
How long are you guys open forit? Any tips for a viewers
who want to come by and getsome flowers. We're open. We're open
extended hours tonight. We're scheduled fornine pm tonight, but that may change
depending on demand. Yeah, theflower mart, be careful, man.

(20:29):
That is a rough, rough area, rough area. If you're going down
there, go with a friend ora family member or somebody who has a
carry permit. Tips. You knowthis is a directive vendor, direct source.
B to be a director of theconsumer. You're going to get it
a wholesal prices, you can negotiate, you can bargain. You know,
he buying volume. There's a guygetting run over by a dump truck out

(20:52):
front. You're going to get ita whole sell prices, you can negotiate
and you can bargain. You know, he vuying I'm need to do do
d I y do yourself. Youcould pick up the bundles of flowers and
assemble your own bouquetse and stretch yourdollar. You know, there's many ways
to save money here and help thoseI'm all. This is a six block
area of the large district in LosAngeles, and it's the largest five district

(21:15):
in the country. So you know, you can't find a gear up.
Find it somewhere. And there's mother. They were arguing, but he's actually
enjoying. Even beyond the audio theywere arguing, hear them arguing, Yeah,
yelling at each other and crap.Oh boy, it is a rough
area. I remember being down inthat area and I was I went down
with my wife, she's a florist, and she wanted to go to flower

(21:38):
mart. Ands let me go withyou. Baby. I don't trust you
going down there by yourself. Youdidn't do that like Mother's Day weekend.
No, it was done in general. Yeah, it's like the middle of
February, March or something. SoI go down with her and I'm parked
in a yellow loading zone and I'min the car and a cop comes up
and he knocks out the window andgoes, hey, Bob, you gotta

(21:59):
you gotta MoveOn. And I saidokay, And I said, I said,
hey, how safe is this area? He goes, Oh, it's
not very safe at all. Isaid. If you're seeing a murder down
here, he goes, yeah, there was one about a week ago,
as a matter of fact, righton that corner. I said, oh,
that's wild. I said, Anystabbings. He goes, there's a
stabbing almost every night here. Oh, it's horrible. How many fires Yep,

(22:21):
there's a fire over there, andthere's a fire over there last week.
Oh my god, that's terrible.Any drug sales, Yeah, a
guy who was selling heroin here thismorning. Oh that's horrible. And he
naked, homeless people walk around. He goes, there's one right there.
I said, oh, man, that's wild, babe, get back in
the car. That's crazy. SoI went through like fifteen of these things
with him, like you know, the murders, the rape and all that

(22:41):
stuff. I went through fifteen ofthese things with him, and I said,
drug sales, you know, rape, murder, assault, all that
stuff, and he said yes toeverything. And I said, and the
problem is me in the yellow zone, right, And he's and he's like,

(23:02):
Okay, I get it, Iget it, I get it.
Just move on, move on.You didn't catch him like catching on to
it at any point. He wasjust like, Oh, this guy's got
a lot of questions, but problemshere in this area. He was bragging
about how miserable the area is andhow much work they got to do in
that area. And so so it'sme and the yellow zone. It's the
problem down here. Huh. Justget out of here. It's wrong with
you. You're listening to Tim ConwayJunior on demand from KFI AM six forty.

(23:30):
If your cell phone is not workingtonight, there is a reason.
There's a huge solar storm coming ourway and it's gonna be tonight, tomorrow
and Sunday, so be prepared.Could wipe you out. So you had
the center of the sun, that'sthe corona, and we talk about a
coronal mass ejection that comes after yousee that sort of burst of radiation which

(23:52):
is the flare, and it reallyis wait what is it called? And
we talk about a coronal mass ejection, coronal mass eject, coronal mass ejection
that comes after you see that sortof burst of radiation which is the flair
and it really is dependent upon whereit's aimed. So those magnetized particles now
are aimed toward Earth. So that'swhy for the first time since two thousand

(24:14):
and five, the first time innineteen years, we have a severe geomagnetic
storm watt wow. We could getwiped out tonight by this geo magnetic storm
level four, the ghost level five. It's a warning and basically this is
for the people who deal with theinfrastructure, who deal with the power grids,
the satellite communications. Yeah, GeorgeNor has been all over this for

(24:36):
years and years and years. He'sthe only guy talk about how we have
not protected our infrastructure when it comesto electric in this country. We need
more protection, he's been talking aboutfor twenty years. And the radio situation,
there are already radio outages reported inAsia, in parts of Europe and
in Africa, so possible disruption ofcellular GPS and satellite communications not necessarily the

(25:02):
case, but those who were onguard need to be advised. We're on
a solar maximum with the sun cycleand we're likely to see more of these
sort of events in the upcoming days. This watch is active all weekend long.
Oh boy, the cool side.Happy Mother's Day. Now you're a
cell phone doesn't work? Oh youcould use that? Y yeah your light
bulb? Right then? Boo,yeah, I tried to call you all

(25:26):
day. Mo. But this solaralert, you know, solar, this
solar ejection. Ah, never mind, it was a solar ejection that got
me. The cool side of this, the gift of it is the Aurora.
Aurora could be seen as far southas Alabama with the naked eye.
Wow, you can see those? One are the northern lights as far as
Alabama. All right, let's findout a little more here. This is

(25:48):
a big deal, very important music. Here we go. We're at six
powerful X class solar flares that havereleased Corona message at the Earth. Our
last four videos covered the first fourand the start of the fifth, and
here we'll break down the totality ofthe event, the solar storm forecast,

(26:11):
and more. Let's start with ashot of the big sun spots. This
is a massive sunspot group with considerablemagnetic complexity. Many earths could fit inside
this beast, and it has beenquite the producer in terms of solar flares.
One of the most prolific solar flaringoutbursts in my fourteen year tenure of
watching the sun. These six firedthe plasma at Earth, including the biggest

(26:33):
one this morning on the right side. And the biggest one was this morning.
You know, I looked this up. I had to look this up
because I didn't know the name ofit and has it's Uti six six'
eight or whatever it is. Butthere's a star in our galaxy, in
the Milky Way galaxy that is sixquadrillion times bigger than Earth. Six quadrillion

(26:57):
times quadrillion earths can fit into thisone star. And that's just in our
galaxy. There's billions and billions ofstars just in our galaxy. Let's say,
this is why my wife doesn't likewatching things about space, because it's
just too big of a concept wrappedyour head around. And there's trillions of

(27:17):
galaxies yea. And the biggest starthey know so far in our galaxy is
six and a half quadrillion times biggerthan Earth. It was a Carl Sagan
thing he called the Blue Specker orwhatever it was that our Earth is,
