How much does the average American spend  on streaming service:

  • New research from CNET finds that the average U.S. adult is paying $1,080 per year for subscriptions.
  • That has 61% second-guessing their subscription spending and 26% have already canceled at least one.
  • We’re paying for all kinds of subscriptions, but the most popular ones are for streaming services (61%), followed by e-commerce, like Amazon Prime (37%) and music (33%).

Can we go back to cable?

Airport moves costing you money:

  • Park It Smart
  • Weight your checked bag
  • Bring a water Bottle
  • Skip duty free
  • Know what can go in Carry-On
  • Use travel rewards

  • Don't buy snacks on the flight
  • Rent a car away from the airport
  • Be a Public Transpo Pro

Virtual Birthday and still wants gifts:
  • A mom in a parenting advice forum was very confused when her child got an invitation to an online birthday party, except there’s no actual party.
  • The invitation explained that gifts can be sent to the birthday child’s address and even included a list of suggestions and said “or you can Venmo her money.”
  • So, basically, this mom is skipping the party for her kid, but still wants everyone to send presents, and the commenters call it out as rude and tacky.

More variety from the two thousands, the nineties, and today
it's Star one on one three, Marcus and Corey just
before six o'clock. What's happening? How are you? Corey?

Speaker 2 (00:07):
Hi?

Speaker 1 (00:08):
Yo, I'm good.

Speaker 3 (00:09):
It's Friday.

Speaker 1 (00:10):
Yeah, I'm feeling good, are you? Yeah?

Speaker 3 (00:14):
I don't have anything to complain about.

Speaker 1 (00:15):
No ailments this morning?

Speaker 2 (00:17):
Uh?

Speaker 3 (00:17):
No, isn't that nice? It was beautiful yesterday. My only
thing right now. I posted my diary yesterday on the
Star Instagram and the only thing I was asking for
is that people send positive vibes to my friend Kimmy.
That's right, because she's her dog's going through some stuff. Yeah,
and they're waiting to get some results.

Speaker 1 (00:37):
On I was gonna ask you what the update was
right now.

Speaker 3 (00:41):
All I know is that they were monitoring her heart
for twenty four hours to decide whether or not they
could do surgery. So I was just like, hey, peeps,
can we send some positive vibes? And but yeah, I
was in Glenn Park yesterday. I wanted to check out
the market there.

Speaker 1 (00:56):
What a cute neighborhood that is.

Speaker 3 (00:58):
It's so cute. And the funny thing is, I was like, oh,
I want to check out this market. I don't go
to this market. It's close to my house. Yeah, and
then I realized it's basically a Gus Gus market.

Speaker 1 (01:06):
Gus's market. Really cute neighborhood. You know, those kind of
shopping like grocery stores. It's they have stuff you didn't
even know existed that now you can't live without. You're like, right,
I'm going to need those pre fried chalets in a bag.

Speaker 3 (01:21):
I mean, I got a little caprese salad made exactly.
It's delicious.

Speaker 1 (01:26):
The next time you're on Bart, by the way, if
you're listening right now and you see Glenn Park Bart
on the map and you you've never stopped there, just
stop there. One day. You can get off Bart and
just walk to the most cute neighborhood ever.

Speaker 3 (01:40):
Lots of restaurants. Yeah, you know, you've got a little
diner type of vibe, and then you've got like all
different kinds of cuisines.

Speaker 1 (01:48):
Yeah, I'll put a plug in. Maybe don't do it
this weekend because beta breakers, but on another weekend.

Speaker 3 (01:54):
Beta breakers it is.

Speaker 1 (01:55):
I'll have a full thing on that. Okay, but later anyway,
thank you for having us on this morning or ticket
hookups obviously more cash with the base ten K day
giveaway that starts at eight to ten this morning.

Speaker 2 (02:05):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (02:05):
Coming up next, we're going to be discussing how much
the average American spends on streaming services.

Speaker 3 (02:11):
This is just I'm already mad.

Speaker 1 (02:13):
We're already mad. At the end of the title, it says,
and we're over it. Get into it at six fifteen,
Hang on what variety from the two thousands, the nineties,
and today it's Star one on one three. It's Marcus
and Corey. Good morning. Here's a question, will self audit?
How much are you spending on all of your monthly subscriptions?

Speaker 3 (02:30):
I'm already annoyed. Parent, you don't even know.

Speaker 1 (02:32):
Americans spend at least over one thousand dollars a year,
which is ninety bucks a month, and we are over it.

Speaker 3 (02:38):
Well, that seems low compared to what you used to
pay for like cable, but I bet it's higher than that.

Speaker 1 (02:44):
I'm gonna blow your mind right now. You're ready. Yeah,
we're not even just talking about streaming services as far
as on your TV. We're also talking about like those
boxes with the stuff in it. We're talking about big
box retailers. You mean, like we're talking about gaming subscriptions,
we're talking about news and media. You know, newspapers have
gone digital, but you got to pay a monthly fee.

Speaker 3 (03:04):
Yes, when you say boxes, you talking like.

Speaker 1 (03:07):
You know, like stitch Fix. Yeah, like that kind of
stuff O great, or like those boxes where it's like
what do you get for the man who has everything?
And every month you get a box of things.

Speaker 3 (03:16):
My sister once got me one of those and I
kind of went, this is fun, but I don't need
this every month. It's just clutter.

Speaker 1 (03:23):
Correct, So past that, the average American is shelling out
about three hundred dollars a year on stuff they forgot about.

Speaker 3 (03:31):
I have to be really careful subscriptions with Amazon because
they always say do the subscribe and save, and then
I get way too many and I don't need this much,
and I have to go in there and stop the shipment,
and then it piles up and again clutter.

Speaker 1 (03:44):
So for me, just on streaming services, just stuff I'll
watch on TV, it's one hundred bucks a month.

Speaker 2 (03:48):
Yea.

Speaker 1 (03:48):
It seems low between the Netflix and the HBO Max
and the Peacock.

Speaker 3 (03:53):
And I wish do more bundles because I like that
we got Hulu Disney because we have Netflix, Hulu Disney,
Paramount Peacock and it gets Netflix.

Speaker 1 (04:05):
It gets complicated. It gets complicated at my house because
Max is roped in with AT and T, so I
get it free with my phone. They're good, and then
with the AMX Platinum card they give you X amount
of money per month to go towards streaming services, but
then you pay the annual fee, which is exordinate, so
they're just moving shells at this point.

Speaker 3 (04:26):
Yes, it really is. The thing is I said to
my husband last night because I was so sick of
the fact that we have all these streaming services. I'm like,
you kind of want to go back to cable, but
then you realize there are some shows that you can't
watch if you don't have the streaming service because they're
only on the streaming service.

Speaker 1 (04:41):
Did anybody else get really bent? I have HBO MAX.
I was watching the Warrior games and then, for some
reason inexplicably, Game four, a pivotal game, was not available
on MAX. It was only available on ESPN, which you
could only get if you were subscribed to YouTube TV,
which I don't have. So I saw all the games
except Game four.

Speaker 3 (04:58):
Yeah, my friend Kim who owns a restaurant and she
likes to show all the football games. She has to
get all these different services because the NFL is not
just on one streaming service.

Speaker 1 (05:09):
And the reason they do it is because they can,
because they can. When all these streaming service started, it
was like, oh, ninety nine cents, let's see if the
average American consumer would do this, And then we did,
and then like, all right, well let's charge him more.
Like a lot of these services started with no commercials.

Speaker 3 (05:25):
Oh you know, I watched a movie on Amazon last
night and I have an Amazon Prime streaming service subscription,
and yet I still have to watch commercial.

Speaker 1 (05:33):
And then it became we're still gonna go commercial free,
but now you have to pay even more if you
want that. So gross it is gross anyway, the average
American spending over one thousand dollars a year on streaming services,
and they're sick of it. So this will be a
good it'd be a good day to audit and cancel
what you don't need, is my point. Were variety from
the two thousands, the nineties, and today it's Star one

(05:54):
on one three, it's Marcus and Corey Summer travel season
about to kick off with a Memorial Day right around
the corner. Here are some moves you make in airport
that are costing you money. Okay, you'd be a lot smarter.

Speaker 2 (06:03):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (06:03):
Finding the right place to park, Okay, it doesn't have
to be crazy if you plan ahead. If you park
right by the airport. A lot of times, that's the
most expensive move.

Speaker 3 (06:12):
I used to shuttle when I would travel back and
forth to Oregon. Sure I would do this one shuttle
place where I could find discounts, and it wasn't that
long of a shuttle, but it was cheaper than parking
at the airport.

Speaker 1 (06:22):
Just have to plan in advanced. Yes, bring your own
water bottle of course, a lot of times too. SFOs
so great. They have that refilling station.

Speaker 3 (06:29):
And a lot more airports are following suit with that.

Speaker 1 (06:31):
You just have to remember to drain it before you
go through security that make you dump it. Snack attack
strategy says here, So bring your own snacks because buying
food on the plane is the biggest scam.

Speaker 3 (06:43):
It is very expensive. But I would ask that if
you are going to bring food from home, be realistic.
Please don't unwrap that curry sandwich in the tinfoil and
let that smell permeate the cabin. Anything fragrant, anything fragrant.
Just be mindful that this is not your own private plane.

Speaker 1 (07:00):
Uh, be a pro with public transportation. This is so good.
We went to Montreal and we just bought tickets for
the metro as long as you can like sort of
get around. And because we you know, San Francisco is
a big city, we have some experience, but like, learn
the public transportation system. Same in Boston. You save so
much money. Yeah, it's unbelievable. I am so guilty of

(07:22):
this last one. Don't forget what you packed in your
carry on?

Speaker 3 (07:24):
So what does that mean?

Speaker 1 (07:25):
Meaning like, there was a lady who lost an entire
bottle of perfume because she packed the full size. Oh
I forget what I think it's one and a half
ounces one point seven ounces with the max. Yeah, because
you're gonna take it.

Speaker 3 (07:38):
Do you can buy these travel bottles that are sized
so you can put your perfume in there, you can
put your lotion in there, you can put your makeup
in there.

Speaker 1 (07:46):
I was so devastated coming back from Hawaii and they
confiscated my jar of mango jelly.

Speaker 3 (07:51):
I bet you that was expensive.

Speaker 1 (07:52):
You can't bring homemade, sorry, trauma.

Speaker 3 (07:54):
Just be mindful. A lot of these are just common sense.

Speaker 1 (07:57):
And then at the same time, pack essentials in your
care on so that when you land, if they lose
your luggage, you don't have to go buy a new
blah blah blah.

Speaker 3 (08:04):
I'm telling you I put a pair of underpants in there.

Speaker 1 (08:06):
Over time, saving money at the airport. There you go.
Anything to add hit us with a talkback. It's the
little red microphone on the iHeartRadio app. Ways that you
save money. Would love to hear about them. If you're
streaming Start one on one three, you can leave us
a message right now. It's Star one on one three.
It's Marcus and Corey. Good morning.

Speaker 4 (08:21):
This is what I'm talking about.

Speaker 1 (08:23):
It's what's trending on Star one O one three.

Speaker 5 (08:26):
What's happening in entertainment news, the biggest stories of the
day and everything people are talking about today in the Babe.

Speaker 3 (08:33):
What's Trending is brought to you by Cash Creek Casina Resort.

Experience Red Corvette a Prince Tribute Show Live. Buy your

battle between Blake Lively and it ends with us CO
star Justin Baldoni is now involving Taylor Swift, but it's
been quickly shut down by the judge. So Baldoni's attorney

(08:56):
alleged that Lively's team threatened to release private texts unless
Swift publicly supported Lively. Now that claim was called scandalous
and completely false by Lively's lawyers. The judge struck Justin
Baldoni's letter from the record, calling it an attempt to
promote public scandal.

Speaker 1 (09:14):
Isn't that also like blackmail? It sounds like blackmail?

Speaker 3 (09:18):
He's so Baldoni is accusing Lively of blackmail.

Speaker 1 (09:23):
No, but if they're threatening Taylor Swift that they're going
to release private texts unless she backs her right.

Speaker 3 (09:32):
But that's what I'm saying. He's accusing Lively of blackmail
towards Taylor Swift. I see, and Taylor Swift has not commented,
but and I wouldn't either. This is all just a mess.
But I'm glad the judge is saying, look, you're trying
to promote public scandal and stop doing this. So hopefully
I just wanted to all to go away. You know,
just agree that you guys don't like each other. Terrible

(09:54):
things happened, but some if terrible things did happen, someone
should be punished, right, I mean, that's.

Speaker 1 (09:59):
Why they're doing it.

Speaker 3 (10:00):
I know, I know.

Speaker 1 (10:01):
I'm exhausted.

Speaker 3 (10:02):
Though the popular video game Fortnite is currently unavailable on
iOS platforms, Epic saw that Epic Games made the announcement
after Apple blocked an effort to get the game back
to the App Store.

Speaker 4 (10:14):
Now.

Speaker 3 (10:14):
The game was pulled from the app in twenty twenty
after Epic Games updated at software in an effort to
get around Apple's thirty percent commissions. It was back in
the app store last year. A judge earlier this year
ruled Apple could not charge fees for purchases made outside
of an iOS app. Neither Apple or Epic Games is
saying why the block happened. Thirty percent commission.

Speaker 1 (10:37):
Yeah, that's one of the dirty secrets.

Speaker 3 (10:40):
And get ready for the most beautiful thing ever peraps.
Blue ribbon and cheese Pepslue ribbon holds a special place
in my heart because we used to win the can
drives at my Catholic school. Because my grandpa drank it. Yeah,
and we would have the largest bags. So paps, Blue Ribbons,
beer flavored cheese. They're doing it with Yancey's Fancy. I

(11:02):
wasn't familiar with this cheesemaker, but Yancey's Fancy has some
crazy flavors. They do an apple pie cheddar, they do
a killer Dill cheddar, Buffalo wing hot sauce.

Speaker 1 (11:16):
Never heard of them.

Speaker 3 (11:17):
No, they're based out of New York, but apparently they're
in stores all over in this PBR cheese a beer
cheese which, by the way, one of my favorite things
is beer cheese soup. It's going to be in like Safeway, Walmart, everywhere.

Speaker 1 (11:29):
Okay, at this time, we know where to buy it.
I thought you could buy it online and I was
getting frustrated, but it's Corey did a deep dive.

Speaker 3 (11:34):
You go to the website. It's not on their website yet,
but I have seen the actual packaging. It is out there.
It does exist.

Speaker 1 (11:42):
We got to get a shout out to Santose State University.
It's time to spartan up because they just announced that
Santose State University's engineering program has leapt into the top
ten nationwide, one of the best places in the country
to get an engineering degree, specifically in coding flu right past.
We always celebrate cal and we always sell Stanford, and
that's fine. My dad went to Stanford go trees. However,

(12:04):
we my mom went to Santase State. We have to
recognize because this is a big deal. I think it's
pretty amazing. And one of the reasons is you have
a lot of you know, people lending their expertise who
work obviously in the business because Silicon Valley. So then
they come over and they teach the kids. Not only
all right, here is uh, here's the knowledge you need,
but here is practical, real world life application based on

(12:28):
my experience, you know what I mean. Yeah, So congratulations
to Santase State. That was announced this morning and I'm
here for it. Don't forget. Beta Breakers is this weekend
in the city, which makes travel north south very difficult
because the route literally goes west to excuse me, east
to west, starts at Howard and Maine, and then we'll

(12:48):
end up at Ocean Beach. The first runners are released
at eight am, the last set of runners at eight
forty five. You have half the people that are really
into running and half the people that are really into partying.
It's a lot of costumes, a lot of costumes. Speaking
of busy in the city. You have a Valkyries game tonight,
their first regular season game will be at Chase Center,
tip off at seven o'clock and then seven point fifteen

(13:10):
the Giants first pitch. They're starting a homestand so if
you don't have to come to Soma, if you're not
coming to one of the games, then I would suggest
staying out of the area. A key ingredient in your
energy drinks has been linked to the advancement of leukemia.
Just something crazy in my so taurine apparently accelerates the disease.

(13:32):
That's again something to just be mindful of because I know,
for example, a lot of people, a lot of people's
kids maybe get into the Red Bull, get into the
Monster energy. Another reason, they are just not good for you.
So be careful. And then it's free Fridays today, of course,
and we are going to have a special visitor. This
scares me because Corey's gonna take her home. I have a.

Speaker 3 (13:53):
Problem with meeting dogs in real life who need homes.

Speaker 1 (13:56):
We have some doggies that need adopting right now. From
Kelly Clarkson's favorite shelter. One of our partners, Muttville Senior
Dog Rescue. If you want to check out who we've
got up for adoption right now, all the information including
pictures that Corey shouldn't look at nope, and adoption info
up on the Marcus and Corey Instagram right now. Best

(14:16):
what's catch?

Speaker 3 (14:17):
What's trending every weekday Morning on the fifties six fifty
seven AM.

Speaker 5 (14:23):
And Connection now with Markets and Corey everywhere at Star
one O one three FM.

Speaker 3 (14:28):
And I'm Marcus and Corey.

Speaker 1 (14:29):
Well variety from the two thousands, the nineties and today
it's Star one on one three, It's Marcus and Corey
and it's back y'all. Second date Update and how did
this go? Corey?

Speaker 3 (14:38):
Well, this is a dating segment where we talk to
you about a first date, like where you went, you know,
have you got along, if there's chemistry, and then we
forgot why you're not getting a second date. Hopefully we
can get your date on the phone.

Speaker 1 (14:50):
Yes, let's bring Lisa on. Everybody's had a Lisa. Good morning, Lisa,
Good morning, h Hi, welcome, thank you. We want to
talk to you about this guy raw us so let's
talk about how you guys met, and then, as always,
let's run through the first date and see if we
can craft some clues. Eye because I understand that he's ghosted,
so let's talk about it.

Speaker 6 (15:10):
Yeah, and I don't. I don't really get ghosted too,
So it's like, I don't know what happened here. I mean,
that's why I wanted to like get to the bottom
of it.

Speaker 1 (15:18):
You are the third person in the last week who
literally has said I don't know how this happened. I
am awesome.

Speaker 2 (15:25):
I get.

Speaker 1 (15:28):
Thank your parents for giving you a good social emotional base.

Speaker 6 (15:32):
I don't know about that, but okay.

Speaker 1 (15:35):
Anyway back to you being amazing. So how did you
guys meet?

Speaker 4 (15:38):
We met on.

Speaker 6 (15:38):
Hinge and we're like, we do have some people in common,
and our conversation it was really cute, and then we
both were like we were sort of messaging back and forth.
We both love movies, and I go all the time
and so does he, and so we've both seen pretty
much every new movie that's come out in the last
few years. Like, I don't know, it just made sense

(16:00):
for us to go see one together. Sure, it was
like a nice gateway for him to ask me out
and be like, oh, let's go see a movie that.

Speaker 3 (16:06):
Was very obvious and yeah, nice, what movie did you see?

Speaker 6 (16:10):
Saw Thunderbolt?

Speaker 2 (16:12):
That movie?

Speaker 6 (16:13):
And I don't I mean, I know, I see a
lot of movies that I don't ever really care about
superhero movies as much like I like Blockbuster, like I
like Top one movies, but this one was just I
don't know. This one was like a team up.

Speaker 7 (16:24):
So it was fun.

Speaker 1 (16:25):
Okay, did you guys eat beforehand or anything?

Speaker 6 (16:28):
Yeah, we met up early to have like an actual
date and talk.

Speaker 7 (16:32):
And then he said he was excited to find someone
who likes movies as much as he does.

Speaker 6 (16:36):
He's like a fan of things, because he.

Speaker 7 (16:38):
Said the last early dated wasn't a fan of anything
and it was boring. So I was like, yeah, you know,
I love stuff.

Speaker 3 (16:45):
That's great. That's great, but now what the movie ended?

Speaker 2 (16:48):
And then he acted like he had.

Speaker 7 (16:50):
To get home immediately. It was like all our chemistry
had been shut off.

Speaker 2 (16:54):
It was over.

Speaker 3 (16:55):
Here's what I'm thinking. Ross loves movies, right right, he
decides he wants to make one of his own, and
he wants to do something like Platoon.

Speaker 4 (17:02):
You know.

Speaker 3 (17:02):
However, he's having trouble with the cast the special effects,
so he decides to shoot gorilla style. Cut to he
and the cast are lost in the jungle.

Speaker 1 (17:13):
Wait, tropic thunder. Tropic thunder.

Speaker 2 (17:17):
I did it.

Speaker 1 (17:20):
That's three in a row.

Speaker 4 (17:21):
I know.

Speaker 1 (17:22):
I mean, Lisa, it's possible. Why else would he ghost
to you? Honestly, if he's.

Speaker 3 (17:25):
Not lost on the joke.

Speaker 2 (17:26):
Yeah, I'm talk.

Speaker 1 (17:30):
We'll call, We'll call him, we'll figure it out. Just
take a deep breath, hang on the line. Okay, we're
gonna do it right after this. Let's star one on
one three. It's Marcus and Corey. We're doing second date. Update.
We've got Lisa on the phone. So they went to
go see a movie you guys went and saw on
called Thunderbolts. That yeah, the new Marvel flick.

Speaker 6 (17:47):
Yeah it was awesome.

Speaker 1 (17:48):
Yeah, okay, good. The only clue we had that something
I had gone sideways is that they were all cool beforehand,
and then the second the movie was over, he bounced
and it was almost like a light switch had been
shut off. So let's call them and try to figure
some things out. Go ahead and mute, and let's give
him a shout.

Speaker 3 (18:11):
Hello, Hi, Mays speak with Ross Please, Yeah, this is him.
Hi Ross, It's Marcus and Corey from Star one on
one three.

Speaker 1 (18:20):
What's up? Ross?

Speaker 4 (18:22):
What now?

Speaker 2 (18:24):
Hi?

Speaker 3 (18:24):
We're we work for a radio station, it's Star one
on one three and we do a dating segment and
someone called us about you. They went on a date
with you, and we were hoping we could talk to
you about it on the air. Is that okay?

Speaker 1 (18:35):
That's a lot at once. I know, Uh, do you
mind being on the radio with us?

Speaker 4 (18:41):
Sure?

Speaker 1 (18:41):
I guess, okay, thank you, thank you. So the lady
in question, her name is Lisa, and she said, you
guys went to the movies. She had a blast. We
kind of know something went wrong because she feels like
after the date, you just kind of bounced. Yeah, So
we're just wondering. I wanted to get your take on
the date itself. How did it go for you?

Speaker 4 (19:00):
It was okay, I guess. I mean we had a
good time before the movie. Okay, I mean during the movie,
it's kind of weird.

Speaker 1 (19:07):
I just it was weird. Did you say it was weird?

Speaker 7 (19:10):
Yeah?

Speaker 4 (19:10):
She just I don't know. She just was talking like
loudly during the movie and like asking questions when I'm
trying to concentrate and watch the movie. I mean, that's
stuff I can get past too. That's I guess everybody
watches them movies differently. You know. The weirdest thing was
her laugh. She has this crazy laugh. It's like so
loud and obnoxious, like people were staring at us throughout

(19:33):
the movie because she just it didn't even sound human.
She just had this crazy laugh to her And I
don't even know like how she cannot hear it or
like if she has any self awareness, but like, it
is obnoxious.

Speaker 1 (19:44):
So was the laugh that got you?

Speaker 4 (19:47):
That and all the damn questions?

Speaker 3 (19:49):
All right, Wow, I'm feeling a little personally victimized on
this one. I too have a very unique laugh, and
I've just learned to lean all the way into it.
I'd actually funny you say it, because I've actually went
out with a guy and we were watching my big
fat Greek wedding and he shushed.

Speaker 1 (20:04):
Me really laughing. Yeah, how'd that worked out for you?

Speaker 2 (20:08):
Well?

Speaker 3 (20:08):
Guess what it wasn't Jeff husband.

Speaker 1 (20:12):
So ross. I don't want to be delicate here, but
Lisa is actually on the phone listening right now. Okay,
I'd like to bring her on.

Speaker 3 (20:21):
Lisa not to ambush you.

Speaker 6 (20:23):
Yeah, I guess. I guess I'm embarrassed here, but not
because of my laugh, Like I'm just embarrassed.

Speaker 7 (20:28):
For you judging my laugh.

Speaker 6 (20:30):
That's so petty. Who cares? Honestly, I love laughing other
people laughing makes me laugh, brings me joy. This is
a funny movie. I'm sorry I asked you questions, but
you know all the superhero stuff. You were nerding out
about all of the superhero stuff, So I don't know
it was funny.

Speaker 4 (20:46):
This movie etiquette. You're not trying to talk the whole time.
There's movie etiquette. And they called me petty for not
liking your laugh. That's crazy. When you apparently called me
with the radio, that seems more petty.

Speaker 6 (20:58):
Well, I thought we were reviving and obviously, like I
don't know, like maybe you have one of those like
disorders where any kind of noise bothers you. I don't know, because.

Speaker 4 (21:07):
Like this was not weird. Maybe I do. I don't
know what disorder you have to make you laugh like
a squad right for her throughout the entire movie.

Speaker 6 (21:16):
But okay, I don't know. I shouldn't have to hide
my lass from the right person.

Speaker 4 (21:21):
You go girl cool good. Can I go now?

Speaker 6 (21:24):
Yeah, you can definitely go now whatever I'd like to
go as well.

Speaker 3 (21:28):
Meet for you. I'm out, not a match.

Speaker 1 (21:31):
No second date. Update seven or five weekday mornings, your
replays at nine oh five. You can binge listen, get
yourself caught up, because there is a podcast that not
only can you subscribe to thank you for smashing that
subscribe button, but also set a preset yes please, and
set a precept for Star one one three core variety
from the two thousands, the nineties, and today it's Star
one on one three, It's Marcus and Corey seven to twenty.
Good morning, Good morning. There was a mom who's lit

(21:53):
up the internet. She shared an invitation to a kid's
birthday party that her child received. But it's for a
very virtual birthday party, so no actual birthday party is
being had. I don't know if this means that that
means that everybody's getting on zoom, like one of those
Zoom happy hours we used to do during COVID.

Speaker 3 (22:12):
Well, that's the thing. We're not in a pandemic anymore.
Why are you having a virtual birthday party?

Speaker 1 (22:16):
But the mom who sent out the invitations would still
like gifts for her child, So.

Speaker 3 (22:23):
We're not actually attending a celebration. I'm not getting a
piece of cake.

Speaker 1 (22:26):
Huh uh.

Speaker 3 (22:27):
I have to give your child a gift, and I
get nothing.

Speaker 1 (22:30):
No gift bag, there's no piece of cake. There's no games,
there's no bounce house, no balloon animals, no face.

Speaker 3 (22:36):
You want me to give your child a gift with
nothing in return?

Speaker 2 (22:39):
Yes?

Speaker 3 (22:40):
What is the thinking behind this? Does she give a
reason for why she's not having an actual birthday party?

Speaker 1 (22:45):
The little girl in question who's having the birthday would
like to go to a hotel for the weekend instead
of having a party.

Speaker 3 (22:51):
Well, then you don't get gifts.

Speaker 1 (22:54):
Well then you can venmo me. That was the other option.
Quit vendmo me a little cash.

Speaker 3 (23:00):
The child the child, of course, so the mom is
basically trying to get money to pay for the hotel.

Speaker 1 (23:06):
Daughter doesn't want to have a party.

Speaker 3 (23:08):
Well, then she doesn't get gifts. Don't do it. I
can see what you're doing right now. I can see
the wheels turning, and you're trying to argue with me.
But you can't because you can't come up with a
reason to defend his mother.

Speaker 1 (23:19):
Is there a foothold here though, because I only asked
that because on my daughter's third birthday, we went all out.
We're talking unicorn, bounce house, We're talking face paider. That
wasn't for you, eighty cookies.

Speaker 3 (23:31):
I mean, you made it for you. It was supposed
to be for her.

Speaker 1 (23:34):
Top patrol like it. And she came up to me
at the end and said, Daddy, I don't and a
taco truck in the front the whole thing, eighty people
in the backyard, and she said, Daddy, I don't I
want to have a party like this.

Speaker 3 (23:45):
Every man of the eighty people were kids.

Speaker 1 (23:47):
Half really Oh yeah, it was a big party. Okay,
So then okay, So if my daughter's having a birthday,
I'm just thinking out loud here, if my daughter's having
a birthday doesn't want to gigantic party, she should get
less gifts than somebody who's throwing a big party.

Speaker 3 (24:05):
You shouldn't throw a party just to get gifts. You
should throw a party to be actually celebrating their birthday.

Speaker 1 (24:10):
Right, But you're saying because the lady's not throwing a party,
the kids shouldn't get any gifts.

Speaker 3 (24:17):
I just don't like the idea of solictening for gifts.

Speaker 1 (24:21):
How do you do it tactfully? Do you throw away? No?

Speaker 3 (24:25):
A birthday is something other people are supposed to make
special for you. But those are the people that are
close to you. I'm not responsible for making your child's
day special. That's you, that's your child.

Speaker 1 (24:37):
Okay, By the way, I don't disagree with you. I'm
just trying to see the other side of the coin.

Speaker 3 (24:41):
Sure, but I think we've gotten into a place where,
you know, with Venmo and go fundme and all this stuff,
we've just gotten really greedy and gross, right if I mean,
I had plenty of birthdays where we didn't have a
party and they were delightful. It was It's not about
the presence. It's about being around people you care about
and celebrating and having fun.

Speaker 1 (25:02):
But for the little for the child, isn't it about
the present? Again, I'm playing Devil's advocate here. I realize,
I realize I'm poking you.

Speaker 3 (25:10):
You are poking me, and I'm gonna hit you hard.

Speaker 1 (25:15):
So Corey and I are talking about this mom who
shared is a birthday invitation for a little girl's birthday party.
She looks to me about four or five, and her
mom was like we're not having a party. My daughter
would just like to go hold up in a hotel
room for a weekend.

Speaker 3 (25:29):
But I also find bizarre.

Speaker 1 (25:30):
But please send gifts.

Speaker 3 (25:31):
I wonder if this little girl really wants to do
or if the mom wants to do that.

Speaker 1 (25:35):
Sure, you grab a couple of homies and you go
to a nice hotel for the weekend and you hang
out at the pool. Sounds great. My daughter would be
all over that. The look of disdain on your foe
kids are so spoiled.

Speaker 3 (25:49):
I'm just gross.

Speaker 1 (25:51):
You wouldn't do that for your child if they wanted to.
Instead of spending money on a birthday party, you spend
money on a weekend for her and a couple of friends.
How old, I'm guessing six or seven.

Speaker 3 (26:04):
Mm.

Speaker 1 (26:05):
The look on your face says, I don't have children.

Speaker 3 (26:07):
I don't have children. I'm thinking of my own childhood
and how my birthdays were spent.

Speaker 1 (26:12):
And it was like the eighties were different.

Speaker 3 (26:14):
We were built different, we were built different. It was
a big day if you had a pool party in Florida.

Speaker 1 (26:20):
In a blow up pool like one of them.

Speaker 3 (26:22):
Hey, we were classy. Ours was in the ground. You
watch your mouth.

Speaker 1 (26:27):
Any comments on this. Any thoughts on this would be
great talk back moment if you don't mind. It's the
little red microphone on the iHeartRadio app. If you're streaming
Star one on one three right now, we appreciate you
don't forget to set that preset. It's time for good
news with Marcus and Corey.

Speaker 5 (26:46):
Sometimes all you need is the won a good thought
to make it a great day.

Speaker 3 (26:50):
So let's do this.

Speaker 5 (26:51):
It's good news on Starbune three, so.

Speaker 1 (26:56):
We do good news twice in morning just to make
you smile. This one might make you choke. It did
it to me yesterday when I read about it. Stories
made national news out of the Sierra and about the mountains.
As a twenty seven year old lady who was solo
hiking was missing for three weeks. That's scary, and they
found her and she's okay, that's good. And what got
me was yesterday they were playing her dad talking about

(27:19):
getting the phone call from her, oh after her being
not there for three weeks.

Speaker 3 (27:25):
But three weeks comes around and you're not thinking positive thoughts.

Speaker 1 (27:28):
So she's writing between Sequoia Kings Canyon and Yosemite. I
think like ninety five miles northeast of Fresno. I mean
in the mountains.

Speaker 3 (27:38):
She's just dehydrated, right, Yeah.

Speaker 1 (27:40):
Her name's Tiffany. And so they were talking about the
call to her dad and him saying I didn't believe
it was her. Oh that was what got me. She's like,
it's Tiffany, dad, and he was and then he's choking up,
and then I'm in the car choking up. So the
way they found her was she's missing for three weeks.
She was across country trip. She's from Georgia. She'd always

(28:02):
wanted to go to California. Okay, so she was wrapping
up some remote work in Oregon and then was like,
I'll just go hiking.

Speaker 3 (28:08):
I think that's amazing. I just don't believe in hiking
by yourself. I mean, if you're a pro and it's
your thing. I guess.

Speaker 1 (28:15):
The crazy part is she was found in a remote
resort cabin to your point, dehydrated but otherwise in good condition.
The resort owner who leaves the cabins unlocked in case
a lost hiker needs.

Speaker 3 (28:27):
Shelter, Oh wow, that's amazing.

Speaker 1 (28:28):
He was checking on the property an he founder, this
is nuts.

Speaker 3 (28:32):
So she had shelter, which probably really helped.

Speaker 1 (28:35):
The search for her lasted four days, covered six hundred
square miles, and her dad said she'd always dreamed of
traveling and connecting with new people. California had been on
her bucket list, and they just the thank you all
the first responders and to the gentleman who found her.

Speaker 3 (28:49):
And boy, I'll tell you what I decided, I should
never go hiking by myself. When that movie one hundred
and twenty seven Hours came out.

Speaker 1 (28:56):
All right, well there's that too. Hey, we love this.
That's our good news. Star one O one three variety
from the two thousands, the nineties, and today it's Star
one on one three. It's Marcus and Corey time to
play the bass favorite trivia game. It's called What You
Know About That.

Speaker 3 (29:09):
We've got a pair of tickets to see Big Time
Rush August twenty seventh at the Toyota Pavilion at Conquered
courtesy of Live Nation. Tickets are on sale now at
livenation dot com.

Play with us again at weekday mornings at eight and

pre set on RIR and never miss an episode.

Speaker 1 (33:02):
For Variety from the two thousands, the nineties and today
it's Star one O one three, it's Marcus and Corey
and it is free Fridays and we have a special
guest today.

Speaker 3 (33:10):
The fact that we're bringing the dogs in again is
so amazing and yet heartbreaking because I want them all.

Speaker 1 (33:16):
One of our favorite partners, Muttville Karina is here Mutville
Senior Dog Rescue.

Speaker 3 (33:20):
Hey, your shirt is so cute, thank you. It's a
Muttville Iichi Wahwa shirt. Yes, which is fitting.

Speaker 8 (33:28):
Very fittings in the Superstar Little Chihuahua and the name
of Jedi. Yes, he's about eleven years old. He's been
at Muttville for a little over a month now. He
did come to us after unfortunately his owner passed away
and you know, the family was just not in a
position where they could give him the best of care.
He did come to us, like many of our dogs,
unfortunately with pretty severe dental disease.

Speaker 9 (33:51):
So he's got no teeth left. At Muttville, we.

Speaker 8 (33:53):
Give them what we call them Mutville Special where if
they're not spader nudat already, they get that or any
other masses they need removed, anything else to be prepared.
But the vast majority of our dogs get a full dental.

Speaker 1 (34:05):
And his breath is cool.

Speaker 8 (34:06):
It's great now, stinky stinky breath, and we get them
all cleaned up post dental.

Speaker 3 (34:11):
I mean, he's just living his best life.

Speaker 1 (34:13):
So I'm a huge fan of Senior dog rescue on
so many levels, one of which is I'm a big
advocate of senior dogs because Jedi is very plug and play.
He is, he's trained, he is.

Speaker 9 (34:23):
Fully house trained. Yeah, he is great with other dogs.

Speaker 8 (34:26):
He's fine with cats, I have a free roaming rabbit
at home, and I brought him to my house and he.

Speaker 9 (34:30):
Was just who cares. He walks while in lee.

Speaker 8 (34:33):
She's great in the car, sleeps through the night. I
recently made the mistake of adopting a puppy Love for
your dad. She's great work, but it is so much
easier to bring a senior dog into Sure.

Speaker 1 (34:46):
That's great and Mutfelle specifically, I love the fact that
you're a cage free shelter. Yes.

Speaker 8 (34:50):
So we're actually the first cage free shelter in the country. Yeah,
and the first senior dog focused rescue in California. Mutfeld
has been around since two thousand and seven, and we're
get ready to celebrate our eighteenth birthday. Actually is today,
Happy Birthday month, Happy birthday, eighteenth birthday. I definitely recommend
people check us out. We're at seven fifty floor at

(35:10):
a street and we are open to the public eleven
am to four pm every day except for Monday.

Speaker 1 (35:16):
Or you can't nobody doggie hangout rum.

Speaker 3 (35:20):
If I volunteered at a dog i'd have a thousand.

Speaker 9 (35:24):
There's no kennels, you just walk in. We call it
the loft. This big open beautiful adoption center. And there's
just little old dogs and sometimes bigger old dogs too.

Speaker 8 (35:33):
Everybody is seven and older. That's our senior age cut off.
Got it just wandering around, greeting you, sleeping in many
many beds, just ran all over the floor.

Speaker 1 (35:42):
And Mudville always needs your support, so obviously monetary donations.
If you go to Muttville dot org and then the
gala is this weekend, it is basically sold out. However,
there is an online auction.

Speaker 8 (35:53):
Yeah, there's lots of great items on there and you
can find that's right at the top of our website org.

Speaker 1 (35:58):
Love you guys for coming in. Thank you, Thank you
for helping out the Dog East. If you want to
see Jedi and the other dogs that are up for
adoption Fromville Senior Dog Rescue right here in San Francisco,

Speaker 3 (36:21):
I really like that one. I'm gonna say I think
I might like it better than his first one.

Speaker 1 (36:25):
Wow. That's a big statement. That song was huge, I know.
So it is Marcus and Corey. Reminder, it's gonna be
Messi and Soma this evening as the Giants are playing
at seven fifteen the Valkyries their first home game, which
is going to be bonkers. That's going to be a
party down there at Chase Center. That's seven o'clock. Be mindful.
Beta Breakers is coming up Sunday. There are all kinds

(36:48):
of wine walks. There's one unpleasant hill.

Speaker 3 (36:50):
There's an ocean avenue one. I just saw another Napa
wine stroll.

Speaker 1 (36:55):
So like, get out and enjoy the sunshine this weekend,
