On this week's program, host Phil Tower is joined by Jocelyn Detloff, author of It Rained in the Desert: One Woman's Story of Spirit and Resilience.

Jocelyn is the Major Gifts Director at Mary Free Bed Rehabilitation Hospital in Grand Rapids.

Jocelyn shares with host Phil Tower the story of how her life changed dramatically while on an adventure in southern Africa in the late 90s. The specific date is actually Sunday, April 13, 1997. As Jocelyn explained to us, her life abruptly changed within a matter of seconds.
Jocelyn clearly had the heart of an adventurer...especially after graduating from the University of Michigan. After graduation, she spent several months traveling the world, sightseeing, as well as seeking adventure and purpose. While in Namibia, Africa, as part of a three-month, sub-Saharan camping trip, Jocelyn broke her back in a sledding accident and was instantly paralyzed―permanently. Hers is a powerful story, and the book will resonate with anyone who has overcome any struggle in life, whether they have lived with a disability or not. Jocelyn had a choice―would she embrace this full-on as she did other challenges or withdraw and let life pass her by? She created a new way of living life to its fullest through sheer determination, her will, and her faith.
