(00:00):
I don't know about you, butI got to have at least two.
This is West Michigan's Morning News.Aaron Real, NBC News Radio National correspondent.
Do you really need that jold ofcaffeine? Aaron? What is this
study saying? What are people? What's happening to coffee? I'm exactly like
you. I need at least too. That's where the joy lies. But

(00:20):
more public figures, they're proclaiming thatthey don't want to test this stuff.
But Gazelle bunch and says that shelikes a room temperature water with lemon.
Of course she does Mark Cuban likedecaf. Mark Zuckerberg doesn't sprink it.
I don't know, but this isa change in the zeitgeist. There's this
pendulum swift and it has a lotto do with the emerging wellness boom.

(00:41):
There's just new norms, new socialtrends, and sleep is the new coffee.
Also, does it feel like atsome point you're just chasing the caffeine
high, like, oh, oh, two cups isn't enough anymore? Now
I gotta have three, four orfive, And like your body just gets
used to it, so you've gotto up the game. Oh, You're
absolutely right. People see this andlisten. If you're aelebrity and you have
assistant, some time to sleep andall this stuff, I'm like, yeah,

(01:02):
maybe I would give it a shottoo, but cryotherapy is not going
to do be my thing before themorning show, you know. But that's
what they're touting, you know, three minutes in this freezing cold water or
whatever. And I'm like, okay, cool, I bet you that would
wake me up too, But Idon't know if it would be as pleasant
as like the ritual that is themorning coffee. Yeah, so it is
averting a car crash, but thenthe rest of the day you're all jittery.

(01:25):
So could the price have something todo with this trend as well?
My gosh, if you're going toget a cup of coffee, it's pretty
expensive too. It sure is,and yes it could. But really what
this is more from is the movetowards this wellness basically, like the old
flex was how little did you sleep? How much did you work? And
there's this pendulum swing in the wayof like how much are you taking care

(01:48):
of yourself? Do you emphasize energy? Do you feel full of vitality?
Is this is a big shift. It is pretty apparent. And there's been
certain waves of coffee. You know, we've had the butter in the mug,
the rattling off orders like the machiato, dobio whatever, whatever, And
now we're in this third wave ofhigh quality, carefully sourced beans, pour

(02:09):
over type coffee. It changes allthe time. And let's be clear,
there are physical benefits to caffeine. There are negative ones too, So there's
this is not like a study oflikes good is it bad? It's good
or bad depending on how much youdrink and if you have it under control.
But yes, being addicted d annysubstance can be a negative for sure.

(02:30):
So aeron, is there any wayto break the mold? Then?
I mean, if you're like youknow all of us, and you like
two cups of coffee, do youslowly make it one and then eventually go
to something else? I mean, how do you break it? If that
is your prerogative, go for it, listen, anyone could do Like I'm
not precien either way if you don'tlike coffee. If you love coffee,
I am missed by folks who canstart their day without drinking out Like really

(02:53):
how But yes, there's there's sucha wellness and there's also this mud water
and just diferent types of mushroom likemorning jolts, and they're a very low
caffeine. Also, like there's abig Macha trend which is just a uh
it's green tea, so it's it'scaffeinated, but it's a different source of
caffeine that's not supposed to be aslike you said, like the jolt,

(03:13):
and I definitely do feel the joltafter the two cups by like ten am,
I'm like, oh boy, Ialmost need like a snack or I
get it. I get it.I hear you. I don't think it's
wrong, but I still love mycoffee. Everybody, see what I'm doing
right here, I'm drawing a line. I'm sticking with the coffee. I'm
going to stay on this side ofthe line. Thank you very much.

(03:36):
I'll join you on that side ofthe line. And you're very welcome.
