Bounce Afternoons With Matt Gates- Sound Bites

After a mild winter, tick sightings are on the rise in Manitoba. According to the website etick.ca, there have already been about 70 sightings of ticks this spring, up from about 25 at this point last year! Make sure you're playing it safe out there, especially because of tick-borne diseases!

Our friends at Souris School are presenting their annual drama production, Alice in Wonderland! Matt chatted with some of the fantastic cast of the play, which goes April 26-28 at the Avalon Theatre! 

It's the Gone Solo Weekend here on Bounce, where we're profiling some of the best acts to set out on their own, after finding success in a band or duo first. For my money, I've got to give some love to Neil Young. He's been bouncing between bands and solo stuff his entire career, so I'm going to count it! 

Last year, Parks Canada announced that Zebra Mussels had been detected in Clear Lake, in Riding Mountain National Park. A decision hasn't been made about the future of boating on Clear Lake yet, but Parks Canada says a decision will be coming! The warm weather seems to be here, and that means a few things! 1. Spring Cleaning! 2. Hitting up Yard Sales to replace all of the clutter from your house with clutter from someone else's! 

With the Jets making their triumphant return to the playoffs, Matt is all on board, and ready to cheer them on! With one slight reservation - the part where we all wear white. As an avowed messy eater, white just doesn't work! 

Camping is a favourite summer activity of a huge number of Manitobans, and this is a big week for camping! Camping reservations open up throughout the week! I'm not much of a camper anymore (at least in tents), but a stay in a cabin sounds absolutely fantastic! Happy National Burrito Day! Normally, I don't pay much attention to a lot of "national days", because a lot of them are kind of lame. National Flash Drive Day? National Vitamin C Day? Both exist for some reason. But, I totally make an exception, as we all do, when it's for something I like. Something I'm passionate about. And if there's one thing I'm passionate about, it's burritos. 

These days, discovering music is as easy as opening an app on your phone, or opening up a website like YouTube. But back in the day? We were buying albums! Whether it was vinyl, cassette, or CD, we have all gone, and bought at least a couple over the years. But, what was the FIRST one you bought with your own money? You scrounged and saved, and were able to finally afford it! For me, it was Britney Spears' ...Baby One More Time!

The Manitoba Government has announced that they're setting aside money to transition us to plastic Health Cards! We've had the paper ones for so long, and frankly, I think it's about time! 

It's not even spring in Westman yet, and already the potholes situation is out of control! A lot of different factors go into why there's so many potholes, and the weather plays a massive part of it. While we're waiting for those fantastic road repair crews to be able to get out there and start work on them, here's the question: Are you going out of your way to change your commute to avoid the potholes? I sure am! 

One of my biggest pet peeve's is when someone talks throughout an entire movie or tv show! It drives me up the wall! But a friend of mine told me their solution for still being able to enjoy it! 

Over the weekend, I went to see Dune 2. It's a great movie, but the one problem is that it's almost too long to watch at a theatre. I'm going to get the large drink every time at the movies, and with an almost 3 hour runtime, I'm guaranteed to miss a bit while I go to the washroom!
