You know, real friends, real family, people that you can trust,
will talk to your face, they'll praise you behind your back.
And what that means, and what that is is the

(01:48):
people that need to be in your life, the people
that are in your real circle, the ones that you
can trust. You never have to worry about what they're
gonna say or what they're gonna do. You know, true
loved ones will talk to your face, tell you the
nasty truth that you need to hear, regardless of your feelings.

(02:10):
But when they talk to others, what they're speaking on
and what they're saying is the things that you're doing
to achieve in your life. Course you're struggling, of course
you're working, but you're grinding, you're doing what it takes
to get to where you want to go. You know,
that's the kind of people like this, Like I said,
it's all about setting a baseline up the kind of
people that need to be in your life, the kind

(02:31):
of people that you need to keep close. But then
there's going to be the opposite. There's going to be
the people that are like well, wish like congratulations. You
know that they're there for these moments to enjoy whatever
you're celebrating or whatever they can get from you. But

(02:52):
yet behind your back, they talk shit, they put you down,
they diminish you, you know what I'm saying, make you
look bad to others, And it's recognizing and seeing that.
You know, a lot of times we have to trim
the fat in our lives. And the reason we have
to trim the fat in our lives is because these
are the kind of people that we can't have around

(03:14):
us because they hold you down. They hold you back
if you have this negative aura that can bring you
down in your life and sometimes make you question doubt
yourself fucking like really put a damper on the way
you look on things. You know, it's it's hard to

(03:37):
see them, it's hard to acknowledge them, and sometimes it's
very difficult to get rid of them in your life.
You know, I've had so many people in my life.
I've had so many people that I don't talk to,
I don't communicate to, I don't don't associate with, because
I just can't have that anymore. You know, people want

(03:59):
to live in their pit, their pit in negativity. They
want to live in this hole, they want to live
in this this structure of like, I'm miserable, everyone else
is miserable, and I can't live like that. I can't
have that because it does bring you down. I've had
moments and times in my life where I've really held

(04:20):
low opinions, low thoughts of myself, my situation, and what
the fuck's going on in my life. But once I
was able to learn to recognize those people, recognize that
thought process, recognize what is going on in my life
when I'm around people. You know, I've grown sensitive to

(04:40):
understanding what I don't want or like in my life,
and because I've grown sensitive to it, I can pick
it up a lot faster. But a lot of us
don't recognize it. A lot of us don't see it,
a lot of us don't understand that you know what
I'm saying. And a lot of times these people will
make you feel bad when you don't commune. You don't talk,

(05:01):
you don't follow their rules, you don't follow their program,
you don't you know, hang out with them. You know
what I'm saying. They'll make you feel guilty, They'll make
you feel sad, they'll make you feel bad, They'll make
you feel like you're not doing enough. And you don't
owe anything to anybody. I say it all the time.

(05:21):
I don't owe my time, my effort, or my energy
to anybody unless I choose to give it to them,
because you choose to give that, you choose to fucking
you know, I'm gonna share this moment. I'm gonna share
this time. I'm going to share my positivity. I'm gonna
share my life, which is the most important thing to you,

(05:41):
which it should be. And when you share that and
people take and take and take and never add, you know,
it's very draining. It's very exhausting. You know what I'm saying.
It starts really holding you down, it starts weighing you down.
You have this pressure of life that you don't understand it.

(06:02):
But it's because guess what, it's it's who you, who
you hang around with. It's proven in science. You know
what I'm saying. It's proven in life that if you
hang out with a certain kind of person, you will
become like that person. You know, there's a big old
fancy fucking you know saying and quote. If you want
to be a certain way, you hang out, hang around

(06:24):
with a certain kind of person. You want to be successful,
you hang around successful people. You want to grow your
life in a certain way. You you, you fucking hang
around with those kind of fucking people. And guess what,
they all cultivate this positive energy which helps you manifest
what you're trying to fucking do. It's a real fucking thing,
all right, That it's a real fucking life. See who

(06:46):
you have around you and understand is this what I
want to do? Are we all on the same fucking boat.
Are we all doing the same fucking thing trying to succeed?
Or all we fucking just sitting here bitching, complaining, moaning
that life isn't fucking fair, nothing ever goes fucking right.
The man is holding us down, Life is fucking against us.

(07:13):
I'm just saying, I'm just trying to point out the situation,
all right, because I've been in that situation and I'm
in the better situation. I've had both sides of the
fucking fence, and I've also been in the middle where
I'm trying to hold on to what I think I want,
but what I really wanted the same fucking time, and

(07:34):
understanding that I don't need the negativity, I just need
the positivity. And cutting ties sucks. It's fucking awful because
guess what, We've given a lot of time and a
lot of effort towards people that hurt us in a
way I'm not saying physically, but probably mentally spiritually, you know, holistically,

(07:55):
in the whole fucking circle of what I'm trying to
fucking talk about right now, and it's hard to give
that up. But the reason we're giving it up is
for a better outlook in our life. You know, it's
not about just doing it. It's about recognizing it, it's
about seeing it. It is about understanding what you truly

(08:21):
want out of yourself. Because once you understand what you
truly want out of yourself, that's when you can fucking
be like, I have to do this. It's a must.
And the reason it's a must is because you want
to do more, you want to be more. It's just
a hard fact of life. It fucking sucks. Trust me,

(08:43):
I get it. I absolutely fucking understand. But until you
really open your eyes, until you have really woken up
to what you need to change in your life and
understand who you need to have in your life, and
understand this whole situation of like this positive and negative
fucking mindset, guess the fuck what, You're just gonna sit

(09:08):
there on your fucking hands, not knowing what to fucking
do a lot of times, like I said, we just
have to speak up, we have to talk, we have
to fucking inform ourselves. We have to take a deep
look into ourselves and what the fuck is going on
and why the fuck is happening. Like I said, I've

(09:30):
been there, done that in all these situations. And my
life didn't start changing until I started seeing the actual
fucking work of keeping myself surrounded by the people who
are trying to achieve the same things as me. You
know it. And once I started seeing that, and I
started feeling that, and I started understanding that, and once

(09:52):
I started really involving myself in this fucking way, I
was like, Oh, we're all really bad for each other.
We're all really sitting there cheering on each other. We
all want us to succeed, and it's very uplifting. It
makes you feel like not brave, but it makes you

(10:16):
feel you can do it. It's achievable because when you see
other people in your community, in your group, in your
circle succeeding at what they want, it makes you feel
like you can do it too. And that's the whole
fucking point of this conversation is everything is very accomplishable.

(10:38):
You can achieve these things, but you have to believe
in yourself, and a lot of times that belief starts
in the circle that you're in. You know, you know,
when you have these fucking negative thoughts of like, I
can't do it, it's too hard, I don't have the money,
I don't have the time. Work fucking sucks, you know,

(10:58):
I'm struggling all these fucking things, you know, and it
compounds into you can't fucking do it. But when you
see other people achieving these things, working on these things,
grinding on these things, putting in the time and effort
to do these things, all of a sudden, you see
the fucking path, You see the opportunity, you see the

(11:21):
way that they're doing it. So it's like you almost
have a rough blueprint on it. And that's the fucking
difference of both fucking sides. Like I said, I I've
definitely been on both sides of this fucking fence. I've
sat on the fence, and it took me a long
time to understand what I wanted to fucking do. But
once I fucking figured it out, once I fucking got it,

(11:42):
I fucking could achieve it. And once I started achieving it,
I just wanted to show other people this process, this understanding,
see this shit, understand the shit, Recognize this shit, because
the more you recognize it, the more you see it,
the more you can achieve it. It just is what
it is, all right. It fucking sucks, It absolutely fucking

(12:04):
does to fucking have to fucking cut people off, tighten
up your fucking circle. But at the same fucking time,
how do you want your life to fucking be? How
successful do you want to fucking be? And like I said,
I'm not trying to fucking pour down your fucking throat.
Success is money, fame, fucking all these No, that is
not That's just a piece of success. You know, everybody's

(12:28):
success is defined differently. My success is I'm happy I'm present,
I'm with the people I want to fucking be with,
and I'm not stressing out about bullshit. That's the like
I said that that that's part of my success. That's
the most important things about my success is that I

(12:49):
can provide and do these things and enjoy my life,
enjoy my time because that's what I want. That's what
I truly fucking want, is that kind of success. Of
course I want money. Of course I want to be
successful in financially and all this stuff. But guess what,

(13:10):
that is not the most important thing to fucking me.
The most important thing to me is I'm happy. I'm comfortable,
my family's comfortable, my family is happy, and I get
to sit at the fucking top of that. Like I said,
success is defined differently between everybody, but the same principles
go amongst everything. You understand, you represent, you realize, you recognize,

(13:33):
you see these things, and you know how to approach
these things. You know. It's just making you aware that
this is something that you have to look at. That's
the thing that can help pivot change and put you
on the fucking path. Because that's what I want everybody
on here. If you listen to this podcast. I want

(13:55):
you to succeed. I want you to be fucking successful.
I want you to achieve happiness, and the way you
do that is understanding who to fuck you keep around you?
So guess the fuck what this is the angry motherfucking dad.

Ruthie's Table 4

Ruthie's Table 4

For more than 30 years The River Cafe in London, has been the home-from-home of artists, architects, designers, actors, collectors, writers, activists, and politicians. Michael Caine, Glenn Close, JJ Abrams, Steve McQueen, Victoria and David Beckham, and Lily Allen, are just some of the people who love to call The River Cafe home. On River Cafe Table 4, Rogers sits down with her customers—who have become friends—to talk about food memories. Table 4 explores how food impacts every aspect of our lives. “Foods is politics, food is cultural, food is how you express love, food is about your heritage, it defines who you and who you want to be,” says Rogers. Each week, Rogers invites her guest to reminisce about family suppers and first dates, what they cook, how they eat when performing, the restaurants they choose, and what food they seek when they need comfort. And to punctuate each episode of Table 4, guests such as Ralph Fiennes, Emily Blunt, and Alfonso Cuarón, read their favourite recipe from one of the best-selling River Cafe cookbooks. Table 4 itself, is situated near The River Cafe’s open kitchen, close to the bright pink wood-fired oven and next to the glossy yellow pass, where Ruthie oversees the restaurant. You are invited to take a seat at this intimate table and join the conversation.
