Welcome to calming anxiety. The meditation mistake 99% of anxious people make and how to fix it in seven minutes.

(00:12):
Hi there friend and welcome back to the calming anxiety channel. If you're here, well you properly meditate or at least you've tried, you sit down, you close your eyes, you take a deep breath,
and then within 30 seconds your mind is off racing. You try to push the thoughts away, you get frustrated, you feel like a failure, and then you quit.

(00:45):
You are not a failure, you're simply making one tiny, massive mistake. And that mistake is trying to stop thinking.
And in this seven minutes I'm going to show you why that fails 99% of the time and I'll give you the simple grounding hack to fix it.

(01:12):
The uncomfortable truth is this, you can't stop thinking, it's your brain's job to think. It's simply like telling your heart to stop beating, it's impossible.
And the effort to stop thinking actually creates more anxiety.

(01:34):
Think of your anxious mind like a loud fast flowing river. When you sit down to meditate, you jump into that river and try to stop the current with your bare hands. It's exhausting.
Our core grounding philosophy which works so well for overthinking tells us that you shouldn't fight the river.

(02:00):
Instead you need to get to the bank and become the tree. This is the shift. Meditation isn't about stopping the thought.
It's about changing your relationship with the thought.

(02:21):
The hack is called label and return. It's so beautifully simple, powerful and you can start doing it right now.
Step one, notice when a thought comes up. A worry about work. A list of things you need to do. Don't judge it. Just notice it.

(02:50):
Allow your mind to think of those thoughts now. And when you find them which you will, just notice them.
Step two, label, mentally whisper the word worry or planning or past. You are simply naming that category.

(03:21):
You can call them whatever is best for you. There's no hard or fast rule when it comes to anxious thoughts.
When it comes to meditating, we are all unique.

(03:43):
Step three, return. This is where our grounding comes in. Instead of wrestling with the thought, you gently, firmly bring your full attention back to your deep roots.
The feeling of your feet on the floor to your breath. You anchor yourself to the earth.

(04:14):
Maybe expand your awareness to connect with the world around you, the space at the room, the hustle and bustle of the world outside.
Every time you return to your roots, you are reinforcing your strength. You are using the stability of the earth to quiet the noise above.

(04:45):
You are telling your brain, "I see you, but I am anchored elsewhere."
This is the secret. You are not trying to stop the river because we never can. You are stepping onto the river bank.

(05:10):
This is how you gain unshakable control over overthinking.
I know this works because I've guided thousands of people through it. Now if you want to apply this label and return hack immediately, I'll put a link to the full 10-minute grounding meditation below.

(05:37):
My goal is to help you feel stronger than your anxiety. If this video helped you understand the simple trick, please hit that like and subscribe to the channel.
Let's build your inner strength together and then to yourself in everything, my friend. Be kind.

(06:04):
This is calming anxiety. I've created a catalogue of well over 2000 guided meditations. So why not explore and find your perfect moment of calm?
Daily meditation helped me become the best version of myself. I've left behind the issues, the angst of my personality disorders, of my complexities and negative habits.

(06:41):
And I create things in the hope that you can find you. Take care. Have a beautiful day. Smile often. And then in every thought, word and deed. Be kind.

Ruthie's Table 4

Ruthie's Table 4

For more than 30 years The River Cafe in London, has been the home-from-home of artists, architects, designers, actors, collectors, writers, activists, and politicians. Michael Caine, Glenn Close, JJ Abrams, Steve McQueen, Victoria and David Beckham, and Lily Allen, are just some of the people who love to call The River Cafe home. On River Cafe Table 4, Rogers sits down with her customers—who have become friends—to talk about food memories. Table 4 explores how food impacts every aspect of our lives. “Foods is politics, food is cultural, food is how you express love, food is about your heritage, it defines who you and who you want to be,” says Rogers. Each week, Rogers invites her guest to reminisce about family suppers and first dates, what they cook, how they eat when performing, the restaurants they choose, and what food they seek when they need comfort. And to punctuate each episode of Table 4, guests such as Ralph Fiennes, Emily Blunt, and Alfonso Cuarón, read their favourite recipe from one of the best-selling River Cafe cookbooks. Table 4 itself, is situated near The River Cafe’s open kitchen, close to the bright pink wood-fired oven and next to the glossy yellow pass, where Ruthie oversees the restaurant. You are invited to take a seat at this intimate table and join the conversation.
