Da tyskerne besatte Danmark d. 9 april 1940, var vi ikke i nogen som helst position til at forsvare os. Vi var for svage og vi var alene, og vi havde troet at vores erklærede neutralitet ville holde os uden for krig. Det viste sig jo at være helt forkert. Oplevelsen af magtesløshed satte sig i folket og i politikken, på en sådan måde at vi besluttede os for endeligt at vælge side. Siden har vi været en del af NATO alliancen.
