Like the character in the Oscar-winning movie CODA, Kambri Crews was raised by two deaf parents. She grew up isolated in rural Texas with a philandering father who attempted to kill her mother. Years later, he would be sentence to 20 years in a maximum security prison for attempting to kill another woman. In her book, Burn Down the Ground, Kambri writes openly about the challenges and misconceptions of being raised by deaf parents and her eventual reconciliation with her father as he was dying of cancer in prison. Kambri is the owner and creator of QED, a highly regarded performance space in Queens, NY.
