Speaker 1 (00:00):
All right, guys, welcome into another week of talking Lee
County Trojan football. This is the time of week that
we get a chance to sit down with Dean Fabrizio,
head coach of the Trojans, and talk about what's happening
with the Lee County football program, both in arrears and
looking forward. So without further ado, let's bring in the
headman of the Lee County Trojans, coach Dean Fabrizio.

Speaker 2 (00:22):
How are you, Bill, I'm doing okay. How are you
doing today, Coach?

Speaker 3 (00:25):
I'm doing great.

Speaker 1 (00:26):
It's a beautiful day football weather is in the air,
and I tell you it just you can't beat this
time of year, can you.

Speaker 2 (00:34):
No, you certainly can't, certainly can't.

Speaker 4 (00:36):
Especially you know, we don't get a lot of fall
here in South Georgia, so it's nice that we get a.

Speaker 2 (00:39):
Little bit of it.

Speaker 1 (00:40):
Absolutely well, Coach, listen, let's talk about, of course, the
big game that was this past Friday night. I tell
you we've said that at least a couple of times,
actually more than a couple of times, as you guys
have been in the limelight, another big game, and I'm
going to talk further about that here in just a second.

(01:01):
But let's focus on the game against Thomas County Central.
All eyes were on Thomasville this Mass Friday night. You
guys came in looking for the win, almost got it, coach,
but came up just a little bit short. Your thoughts
reflect on the game for us, if you would.

Speaker 4 (01:19):
The first thing I want to say is, you know,
congrats to Thomas County Central. You know they got a
great football team. They played a great game, So certainly
want to take my hats off to them and give
them credit and give them congratulations. Second thing is one
of the unbelievable atmosphere. It was their packed house. They
had a great crowd. Our fans traveled at mass of
the game. There were just a lot of general football

(01:41):
fans there too. It was a packed house, standing room
on league. And you know it was rated us on
one of the top five games in the nation, and
I think it's certainly lived up to the hype.

Speaker 3 (01:51):
Well.

Speaker 1 (01:51):
And so I'll go ahead and talk about what I
was going to mention. Then we'll get into the particulars
of the game itself. But you know that's got to
make you feel pretty good. I mentioned the fact that
you guys have had a couple of these. Of course,
the game that opened the season, which happened to be
the ITG next game of the week between you guys
and Wanner Robbins did not disappoint. You guys, able to

(02:14):
get the victory there against what it's turned out to
be the region champion from their region. In one of Robin,
you guys able to come out on top of that one.
You know, had another big game against Houston County. You
guys able to get the win there. Coach, that's kind of,
like I said, make you feel good. And then you
talk about this this Thomas County Central game. Now, you guys,
game up a little bit short, but still it's great

(02:36):
for the program. All eyes on your football team and
of course the opponent. But I mean that's what that's
what you coach for. That's where you hope to get
your program year in and year out, is to elite status.
And that's where you guys have really gotten to in
the state of Georgia.

Speaker 4 (02:53):
Well, no doubt about that, you know. And it was
a great game Friday. Great to be a part of
big games like that. Unfortunately we came up a little
bit short, you know, back and forth game the whole
way you know, we outgained him by yards, but you know,
in the end, the only thing that matters is the
score and the scoreboard. We came up a little bit short.

Speaker 1 (03:12):
Yeah, great game again, a lot of you know, we're
keeping track on the game. Unfortunately Thomas County with you'r
Lee County fan, Thomas County Central wins at thirty one
to twenty four. If you're a Central fan, you got
to be absolutely overjoyed by the way your team's playing.
But let's talk about you, guys, coach, is there ever
a point where number thirty two just does not cease

(03:36):
to amaze you?

Speaker 2 (03:37):
Unbelievable.

Speaker 4 (03:38):
No, it's such a special player and such a special kid.

Speaker 2 (03:43):
He's playing really good football.

Speaker 4 (03:45):
He stepped up again in this game and played big,
you know, one hundred and ninety five yards rushing and
then added another fifty plus yards receiving.

Speaker 2 (03:53):
Just a great, great effort by him once again.

Speaker 1 (03:57):
You know, tell us though we hear about out and
we see the accolades you know of OSMANI, but talk
about the young man that he is. I know that
you and I have shared some things about that, but
you know, he's pretty humble and straight up guy and he.

Speaker 2 (04:14):
Yes, as good a player. I've said this many times.

Speaker 4 (04:16):
For as great a player as he is, he's a
very humble, very concerned about his teammates, and just just
really a pleasure to coach.

Speaker 3 (04:25):
Absolutely.

Speaker 1 (04:26):
We're talking with Dean Fabrizio, head coach of the Lee
County Trojans. His Trojan come a little bit short in
what was a great football game at Thomasville against Thomas
County Central this past Friday night. All right, coach, let's
kind of go through this game and kind of take
us through it. You know, going in, what did you
expect from this Central football program versus what did you

(04:49):
actually get from the Trojan?

Speaker 3 (04:51):
Is it kind of what you thought it would be?

Speaker 4 (04:54):
Yeah, it was pretty pretty much. I mean, they got
a great football team.

Speaker 2 (04:57):
We knew. We knew defensively they had a lot of
really good players. We knew it was gonna be a
physical game.

Speaker 4 (05:02):
Offensively, you know, they're very multifaceted and they've cut a
lot of good players on offense, and we knew they
were gonna be tough to stop. And you know, it
just turned out to be a dang battle all the
way through. And you know, they opened the game with
a long drive on us. They converted several third downs
and then we held them. We stiffened up inside the
ten and help them to a field goal and then

(05:24):
came out the third play, we fumbled the ball. It
was the only turnover the night. It proved to be
a big one, and they hit it they first play.
They came back out, see the momentum, and then you know,
we fumbled deep in our territory and they scored a touchdown,
went down ten to nothing, and then we rallied back,
got got a big drive for a touchdown, held them
three and out, got a got a and took took

(05:44):
the ball down again and scored, went up fourteen to ten.
And then they were able to get a score right
before half to go up seventeen to fourteen. We went
into half like that that we take the opening drive
of the second half. We have a long drive, getting
the ball down deep in their tear territory. Go forward
on fourth and one, and maybe the only mistake whose
minding made of the game. You know, if he hits

(06:05):
the gap where he's supposed to on the run and
it may score, but he tries to bounce it outside
and we get held on.

Speaker 2 (06:09):
Fourth down, and then that really really was.

Speaker 4 (06:13):
A big momentum switch after that, almost a five to
six minute drive that that happened, Pam, and they go
right down and score. After that, they've kind of taken
control of the game. Twenty four twenty twenty four to
fourteen at that time. But you know, our kids battle
right back. We drive down and get a field goal,
hold them three and out an hour in the fourth quarter,

(06:33):
drive down and tie the game with a score, and boom,
we're up to twenty four to twenty four. Fortunately, we
gave up a big kickoff return after that, they got
it deep in our territory. I think they converted on
two third downs, and then we had a fourth and
two and they converted the first down and finally scored that.

Speaker 2 (06:52):
We got it back and had a great.

Speaker 4 (06:53):
Drive down there, got the ball down to their eleven
yard line or twelve yard line, and we score a
touchdown to tie the game with two minutes left.

Speaker 2 (07:02):
It gets called back on a penalty. Uh, we come back.

Speaker 4 (07:05):
And with a minute left, we get get stopped right
there at the one yard line. Probably you know, if
they say football is the game inches, and it literally
came down the inches this time and you know, uh.

Speaker 2 (07:17):
Uh, just one of the one of those things.

Speaker 4 (07:19):
You know, we thought he got the first down, but
the spot, uh, the spot wasn't even get it apparently,
and according to the officials, which is what counts. And
you know, unfortunately that's how the game ended. Right there,
they took a knee and the game was over. But
you know, what a great, what a great football game.
We came up inches short. You know, well, we're gonna
get We're gonna learn from this, and you know our
kids are gonna learn. You know, we got a lot

(07:40):
of his little mistakes we got to correct and we're
gonna get better from it and hopefully make a run
here in these playoffs.

Speaker 3 (07:45):
Absolutely, coach, you got one game to end the season.

Speaker 1 (07:48):
You got Tiff County, uh coming up, and they have
been playing really well of late. I don't know if
it's a you know deal playing for the coach of course,
as we know now is out going. You know, after
this season, he's leaving. And I don't know if it's
kind of a win one for the gift or whatever
the reason. Tif County seems to have found their second win.

Speaker 2 (08:07):
Yeah, they see we're playing a lot better.

Speaker 4 (08:09):
Got a big win of our veterans two weeks ago
with Lake Houstin County tough last week. So they're coming
to our place on our senior night. So we're off
to put this one behind us and be ready to
play a team we're sure it's gonna give us all
they got this Friday.

Speaker 1 (08:21):
Yeah, And Coach, I got to tell you, and I
know you've already talked about this with your players, and
I was talking about this with somebody yesterday.

Speaker 3 (08:28):
You know, if I was you guys, i'd be scared.
And I know you are.

Speaker 1 (08:31):
I know you respect this team. This has got trap
game written all over. You're coming off a big emotional game.
Somebody may not take Tiff County that, you know seriously.
I mean, it's got all the elements and I know,
as you as head coach, you've got to prevent that.

Speaker 4 (08:46):
Well, we certainly do. And it's we're already locked in
the second seed regardless, so that that's another thing we
have to be careful about that the game really regardless
when we lose, we're going the same seed in the playoffs.
But you know, our kids did don't like to feel
on losing. You know, we want to go out, go
into the playoffs with momentum and hopefully we'll be ready

(09:06):
to play. And I think we will be ready to
play Friday night. But you're right, you know, just playing
a lot better. This is their last game of the
season regardless, so they're not sure they're going to be
wanting to go out on a winning note. So we'll
have to be ready to play our best game here
Friday night.

Speaker 1 (09:20):
You're listening to the Lee County Coaches Show with the
head coach of the Lee County Trojans football team. Of course,
Dean Fabrizio, joining us as he does each and every week,
and we do appreciate all of you guys listening to
the show. So you talked about the playoffs. I'll go
back to the Thomas County Central game. I think if
there's any game that would have a playoff like atmosphere

(09:43):
and kind of give your guys a taste of what
it's going to be like come to the playoff time
that game is it? Talk about how games like that
mirror and get you prepared for what the playoff atmosphere
is going to be.

Speaker 4 (09:53):
Like, Oh, there's no doubt you know that when you're
in big game atmospheres like that it's just different. The
more you're in them, the better your kids can handle them.
And that's why it's so important to play things like that.
You don't want the first time you're in an atmosphere like
that to be in the third round of the playoffs.

Speaker 2 (10:09):
Or the semifinals.

Speaker 4 (10:10):
Good point going through that earlier this year with Culple County,
going through that on the road at Houston County, going
through that on the road at TCC. You know, we've
had some just uh, we've had some tough ball games
one game that I mentioned.

Speaker 2 (10:23):
Yes, we've had some tough.

Speaker 4 (10:24):
Ones on the road in some just huge crowd environments.
So that certainly has got our team prepared. We've certainly
been I guess we'll be big game ready, I guess
you'd say, and not that we weren't already because we
played so many over the years, but these kids have
played in a bunch of big games, and certainly we're ready.
We're any kind of atmosphere we're going to be ready
for in the playoffs.

Speaker 2 (10:44):
And that's a big, a big, big help.

Speaker 1 (10:46):
I'm going to go back to his money as we
close out. Man, he has been a workhorse for you.
We've all seen that. Uh, he's really gotten knocked around. Uh,
I know he got knocked around in this in the
Thomas Kinnty Central game was a very physical game.

Speaker 3 (11:00):
Where's he at health wise?

Speaker 2 (11:02):
He's good.

Speaker 4 (11:02):
He's good health wise, and really, to be honest, he
he does have a lot of carries for us, but
it's not over you know, overwhelming the amount of carries
that he's got.

Speaker 2 (11:11):
You know, you know he.

Speaker 4 (11:12):
Only had six the week before. You know, there's been
games where he hasn't had to carried as much. So, yeah,
he does take a lot of the load. On the
flip side, you know, we don't feel like he's been
overworked at this point.

Speaker 1 (11:25):
Got you coach, Well, listen, thanks so much for joining us.
Getting ready for Tiff County. Gonna be the last regular
season game of the year. I know you guys will
be ready and then we'll come back next week talk
about that game as well as you guys have got
looking at the first round of the playoffs.

Speaker 3 (11:40):
Coach, look forward to talking to you then.

Speaker 2 (11:42):
Thank you very much. I appreciate you.

Speaker 3 (11:43):
All right, have a great day there.

(12:06):

County Coaches Show at I t G Next with Coach
