(00:00):
Hi guys, Welcome back to anotherweek of talking Lee County Trojan football.
This is our point of the weekwhere we are able to sit down,
so to speak with Dean Fabrizio, head coach of the Lea County Trojans,
and get caught up on what's happeningwith the Lee County football program. And
(00:20):
so, without further ado, nowlet's bring in the head coach of the
Lee County Trojans, two times statechampion football program and coach Dean Fabrizio.
Coach, how are you. I'mdoing good, Phil, How are you
doing great? Doing great? Coach? Obviously the word is out by now.
A great football game, A lotof build up to this game between
(00:43):
two really good football teams. Butyou know, just I don't know,
coach. I'll let you talk aboutit, but maybe just a little bit
too much firepower from Colcle County.Well, first off, what an unbelievable
atmosphere there Friday night. Yeah,I mean they as always had a tremendous
crowd. Our people traveled big time, and we had a tremendous crowd from
Lee as well. It was apacked house, people standing all around the
(01:06):
field. Just just a great, incredible atmosphere there. Uh and then you
know, next they got to givecredit Colvin County and uh, you know
they're head coach, Coach Calhoun andtheir entire staff. They do, as
I've said many times before, theydo a phenomenal job coaching, and they've
got a really good football team. And you know, I've got to give
them credit, got to give themcredit without a doubt, And I wanted
to start off with that. Youknow, I've got a lot of respect
(01:26):
for their program and their coaches, and you know, they certainly have a
great team once again this year, very well coached, very talented. So
you just wanted to start off withthose two things because I think they need
to be said. Game wise, you know, uh, we knew going
in we couldn't have any lapses, and uh, you know, I saw
(01:46):
a lot of positives in the game. We actually outgained them four hundred and
nine yards to two hundred and sixtyfive yards. But now I think a
lot of people are going to findthat surprising. Coach, Well, you
know, we just we had someturnovers wed and convert in the red zone.
I think we had the ball fivetimes inside of the thirty and came
away with no points either turning itover and get stopped on downs. And
(02:07):
then obviously the penalties. You know, we can't have that many penalties against
the team, might Caulk with. You know, we probably had over one
hundred, well over one hundred andmore yards and penalty yards than they did,
and that's just too tough to overcomesa really good team like they did.
They have, But you know,we've got a a lot of positives
in the game. Obviously the scortingcome out like we wanted to, but
as our kids played extremely hard againsta really good team. You know,
(02:30):
I thought we got a lot betterlast week in practice and you know there's
we were really close on a lotof plays on both sides of the ball,
and we just got to keep workingto get better. And this game
will no doubt make us better.Absolutely, Coach well put and of course
again much anticipated matchup and grand schemeof things, Coach, I mean,
it's a great game. It's atough loss, but grand scheme of things.
(02:53):
I just think, you know, the loss is not necessarily really going
to hurt you at all. Andin my opinion, you know, games
like this are are all positive nomatter what the outcome. Because yeah,
it's gonna make your team better, get your team better prepared for when you
know, region play comes around. That's my opinion, But your thoughts on
(03:15):
that, well, that's why wescheduled the game. You know, they've
got a great program. It's areally tough place to play. Uh,
we won't have to play in anotheratmosphere. There's that tough to play in.
Certainly we won't play in any placethat's a tighter sideline than they have
over there on the visitors side, because it's uh, you know, we
can barely fit our team on therebut between the fans and the playing field.
(03:35):
But it's certainly certainly helps our team, makes us better. Hopefully we
can continue playing this, uh,this rivalry. Anticipate us being as separate
classes again next year. You know, they've got six seven hundred more kids
and we do. But I butI hopefully we can still continue to play.
It's a great crowd, a greatatmosphere, and there's no doubt that
it makes us better. Hopefully itmakes them better as well, and you
know, will certainly be that they'rein a different class, will certainly be
(04:00):
for him the rest of the year. And I think I think we're a
better team for playing this game. You know, win or lose. Obviously
you don't like losing any games. But you know, sometimes you play really
when you play really good teams andreally good people, it's gonna happen sometimes.
And uh, you know, Iwas proud of how hard our kids
played. I was PLoud of alot of things in that game. You
know. Unfortunately, like I said, you know, not being able to
(04:23):
convert the red zone, some turnovermisuse and and you know most of all
the penalties are things that really kindof sunk us in that game. But
you know, we're gonna have tolearn from it, and uh, and
we're going to get better from it, absolutely, one hundred percent. Talking
to Dean Fabrizio, head coach ofthe league, Aunty Trojans talking about,
of course this seems uh, bigteam, a big time game, much
(04:44):
anticipated, but in the end, tough loss to the home standing Packers.
Okay, coach, I gotta addressthe big three hundre pound elephant in the
or whatever it is, six hundredpound elephant in the room. Everybody's talking
about the the video that was aturnof view flags being thrown. Apparently,
I guess you picked up the flagor whatever that aside what calls, you
(05:08):
know, what was it? Thegat you have set, you know about
everything that happened there, Carriage kindof take us back to the very beginning.
What happened, What sparked this,Well, it was two personal fouls
on two unsportsman like penalties on thesideline, which they hey, coach gets
subjected for and you know, that'swhat happened. So it wasn't one single
incident that's really you know what transpired. You know, I obviously took exceptions
(05:30):
of some of the calls, butyou know, that's part of the game,
and you know, I've got todo a better job of understanding the
situations and how I react to things. And certainly it's not good when you
get ejected, whether you feel likeyou're the right or the wrong, it's
not the example that needs to beset. And you know, I,
uh, it's not something that's goodand I'm gonna learn from it and then
do a better job in the future. But you know, there was a
couple of calls, you know thatthere were the first one there was a
(05:53):
lot of decision on they were ata timeout. It was late in the
first half and they just it wasunder a minute left and they were driving.
They just stopped the clock and Ididn't get an explanation as to why
I go out in the field andtrying to find out why, and then
got flagged for being out on thefield, which you know, they're certainly
within their means to do. Uh, But you know, I was trying
to find out why why the clockwas stopped and they were their players were
(06:15):
sent the sideline and arts were stillon the field. But again, you
know, I didn't need to goout on the field. So and then
the second one, you know,I thought there was a roughing punter penalty.
They said the ball was tipped. You know, I obviously took it,
didn't think it was, and theythey took exception to me taking exception
to their call and threw a flagon me. So that was two on
(06:36):
sportsman likes and going I was outof the game. So you know,
I've got to do a better job. I got to keep myself in the
game, and I got to seta better example of four kids, whether
you know, and like I tellthem all the time, you know,
when they got to deal with withissues, you know that sometimes being right
it is not necessarily the main thingand how you handle the situation. And
you know, I'm gonna learn fromthis and do a better job. I
(06:57):
got you carried what so well sayit? I mean, you know it's
uh, obviously you've had time toreflect, but you know it's it's one
of them things where you know, you felt like that things were a little
bit lopsided with the calls. AndI know that you've got to be careful
what you say about the rest.I know you fully respect those guys and
we want to make sure that everybodyunderstands that. But you know, I
(07:20):
think you said it, or maybeif you didn't, it's certainly worth pointing
out. You know, to beata team like Conqwood County, you've almost
got to play perfect. Uh,and obviously when you start throwing in a
lot of penalties that's far from perfect. Well, it's so hard to get
stops for those guys when you havethird down penalties and gives them another chance
(07:43):
after you've got to stop it.It makes it difficult, you know.
And I've got a lot of respectfor officials. It's a it's a tough
job that they have out there. It's a thankless job. You know there's
going to be human error, butyou know that's something you know, we
we've got to work on, andyou know, we we've got to be
able to overcome those things when theyhappen in a game, and that's something
we'll learn from and we'll get betterat as we move on the future.
Yeah, absolutely, absolutely So,Now have you had it? You actually
(08:09):
at the video? I've looked ata few videos. Yes, okay,
a few sent to me over theweekend. Yes, okay, all right,
who knows there's so many cameras outthere, you know, I mean
I saying you think when you leavethe stadium all the cameras would be off?
How did you do a better jobof realizing all the cameras that are
everywhere? That that so all ofthat unfortunate, But you know, uh,
(08:33):
you know, like I said,it's just that was a big time
atmosphere, big time game. It'sit's it's it's great. The thing about
it is, you know, andwhat I most think I regret as it
is the focus in games like thatneeds to be on the players. And
you know what what everybody talking aboutand what happened there as people talking about
me and that's not what it shouldbe. The focus should be on the
(08:54):
players, all the great players inthat game, on both teams, you
know, because you know, colpWood's got some phenomenal football players and we've
got really good ones as well, and the focus needs to be on the
people, don't. People need tobe talking about the plays they made in
the game, not talking about me. And I think that's the biggest thing
I regretted. The whole thing is, you know, it doesn't need to
be about me. It needs tobe about these young men that are out
(09:16):
there on the field. And youknow, what a what a gang great
And that's what I told our teamand half time, what a great game
to be a part of. Man, the atmosphere was electric too, you
know there the compet the competition levelout there. Was just told the man,
this is great. You've got torelish being a part of something like
this. And and you know thatthat kind of takes away from that a
(09:37):
little bit. But I mean, our kids fought hard, fought hard all
the way to the end, andyou know, I was really really proud
of that, really proud of theireffort. And you know, like I
said, I think we're really closeto being a really really good football team,
and it's just you know, we'rea block away here, a block
away there. Defensively, we're amissus signmon here, missus sigmon there.
The effort levels there, We've justgot to clean some things up. And
(10:00):
you know, when you play inthat kind of heightened environment with the crowd,
with the noise, with everything thatgoes on, you know, it
amplifies everything and and mistakes get amplified. And that that's one of the big
reasons we play the game and whywe go over there and play in that
atmosphere. We certainly don't have todo it's a non region game, but
it's something that we want to dobecause it really brings things out. And
(10:22):
if you can can keep your composures, you can keep your focus and get
your job done in an atmosphere likethat, you're going to be able to
do it in other atmospheres. Andthat's something that you know, that's something
that you really get out of gameslike that, other than the great competition,
is playing in that kind of atmosphereand being able to handle that kind
of crowd and that kind of noiseand that kind of energy in a game,
(10:43):
but get still keep your focus onyour job. Yeah, without a
doubt, one coach and so wellsaid, So, I mean, you
know, with everything Ben said, like I said, it's one of those
games where, hey, it's done. Obviously, you guys come up a
little bit short. I think inthe end though, you know your guys
are gonna be better for this.I mean, you had a big win
(11:03):
over a really good uh well oneof Robin's team, I should say.
But you know, I think nowpeople getting need to realize that, hey,
you gotta you're gonna put this thingbehind you because you've got some tough
games that are about to you.Guys are about to embark on. Talk
about the rest of your schedule.Well, you know, first off,
we've got Lake Gibson coming in here. They're three and Ozer coming out of
(11:24):
Lake Win, Florida, So it'sgonna be a tough game this week.
And then we're open. Then youknow, we start region play and I
think we've got you know, fourof US North Side of still ranked right.
A week ago, four of USA ranked in the top ten of
the state, with North Side USright, DCC and Houston County. So
you know, once again Region oneis just stacked and loaded. So you
know, we'll start that slate afterLake Gibson an open week. So yeah,
(11:48):
we we've got a tough schedule,but that's you know, that's what
we know. We're playing in thisregion and playing the non region teams we
play. We know we've got atough schedule and and you know, our
kids like playing in big games. We like playing good competition, and we're
gonna see a lot of it therest of the rest of the year.
And there's no doubt that this game, the one Robins game or certainly helped
prepare us for what we're gonna seethe second half of the season. Absolutely
(12:09):
finishing up with Dean Fabrezia, theirhead coach of the league County Trojan.
So, you know, you're prettyspot on when you give kind of yourself
analysis of your football team. Youknow, and I've asked you before you
you weren't sure, you know, going into this season you had a pretty
good football team. Has your expectationsor maybe your analysis of your team changed
(12:33):
after Friday Night? You know,I was, like I said, I
think the way that they in thatatmosphere kept kept fighting through the whole game,
didn't let the game get away fromhim, because that's the thing hoped
with us such a great job ofwhen they jump up, especially at home,
just taking away with that momentum. The fact that they just kept fighting
there and kept fighting even with thingsgoing against them. Really really was pleased
(12:56):
with our team and the resiliency thatthat showed. Obviously, we've got it,
like I said earlier, We've gotto correct some things, no doubt,
but you know, we're just we'reso close to being a really good
football team. I really liked thisteam. I like the group of kids
we got, and you know,I'm really excited to go to battle with
these guys the rest of the year. Absolutely, coach, and I'll tell
(13:18):
you we'll be here with you everystep along the way and keeping everybody up
to speed. Guys, don't foryou if you can tune in every week
and here myself and Coach Fabrizio righthere on the League County Coaches Show.
So, who's next up on thedocket? Lake Gibson at a Lakeland,
Florida. You know, two yearsago when we scheduled this game, they
were coming off a semi final season. They've had some issues that summer with
(13:41):
a lot of players transferring out, didn't quite have a team they thought they
were gonna have, and we werekind of role pretty easily here last year.
But they're coming back. They've gota much better team this year,
a lot more experience. They're threeand zero undefeated, so so it'll be
another another good game here at LeaseburgFriday night. All right, coach,
listen, we look forward to checkingthat one out and then we'll look forward
(14:05):
to having you back on with usnext week to talk all about it.
All right. I appreciate Phil,Thank you, all right, coach,
