Speaker 1 (00:00):
All right, guys, welcome in to another week of talking
to Lee County Trojan football. This is that time of
the week where we get a chance to pick the
brain of the head coach of the Trojans, find out
what's going on, see what they've got in mind for
the football team and their upcoming game. And without further ado,
(00:20):
now let's welcome in the head coach of the leak
Anty Trojans.
Speaker 2 (00:23):
It's Dean Fabrizio, join us. Coach. Thanks so much for
doing this.
Speaker 3 (00:27):
Bill, Thank you for having me.
Speaker 2 (00:29):
As always, absolutely we love doing this with you, coach.
All right, so.
Speaker 1 (00:34):
Talk about where we are coach, you guys on a
bye week this week, talk about kind of how you
think your team has played so far and performed so far.
Speaker 4 (00:45):
Well, you know, you always want to you always think
you can do better. I mean, there's been a lot
of bright spots the first half of the season, a
lot of things, though we feel like we can get
better at you know, you know, obviously we've run the
ball really well.
Speaker 3 (00:59):
Defense, we've played really well at times.
Speaker 4 (01:02):
Uh, you know, we feel like we've got to be
a little more consistent on that side of the ball. Offensively,
we've shown flashes of being able to throw the ball well,
and we've we've got to improve there as well. And uh,
you know, we feel like we've got a good football team.
Kids been working hard and we had a really good
week of practice last week. You know, we handled Open
County pretty well, as we always do, undefeated versus them.
Speaker 1 (01:23):
Uh, and it's like the Harlem Globetrotters, right, Uh, you know,
they never lose to that.
Speaker 4 (01:29):
One, never lose to Open County. But we've got a
you know, we start off Region one play and then
you know Region one is always really strong and this
year is no doubt, three of us ranked in the
top five starting Regent play.
Speaker 3 (01:41):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (01:41):
Absolutely, coach a quick reflection on the season. So you guys,
of course opened up with a big win over one
of Robins. Now that when you know, let's let's face it, Uh,
that was a good win any way you look at it.
I don't know what's happened with One of Robins. They
seem to have kind of taken a back seat, and
(02:03):
again I don't know what that's you know, what the
reasoning is behind that. But still that was a good
team and that was a good win that you guys
had there to open the year, and then of course
you take on Hateville Charter, which is a good football
team as well, and then Lithium Springs in week three,
(02:24):
all three of those games, by the way, at home
to open the season. And then of course you first
you said for your first loss of the year there
in week four going to Colqwick County coach, and certainly
no shame there. And then you can come back in
your most recent game and you defeat Lake Gibson forty
(02:49):
five to fourteen. So that's kind of where we are.
You go into the bye week, like you said, chance
to get some guys rested and to heal some guys
before you take gone your next game, which is a
big one from a lot of different directions.
Speaker 2 (03:04):
Coach, Well, it is.
Speaker 4 (03:06):
You know, first off, it's a region game and that
that makes it big. And then you know, we've got
a Houston County team that's coming in ranked depending on
the poll, anywhere from second to fourth in the state.
Speaker 3 (03:15):
They're five and zero.
Speaker 4 (03:16):
Obviously, they've got one of the top junior quarterbacks in
the state, if not the country, in Antoine Hill. They've
got three Division one receivers. Their offensive line is is
really well coached and does a great job.
Speaker 3 (03:29):
Uh get good running, a good running back.
Speaker 4 (03:31):
And defensively, while their offense gets a lot of the press,
they've been playing really good defense too, and.
Speaker 3 (03:35):
They're definitely feeling it. They're definitely on a roll.
Speaker 4 (03:38):
And we've got to go over there, and we know
it's going to be a great atmosphere over their Freedom
Field Friday night.
Speaker 3 (03:44):
But you know, our kids are excited about it.
Speaker 4 (03:45):
They're excited to get Regent play started, and they're excited
to play this game.
Speaker 1 (03:49):
Yeah, you guys had a chance to think, you and
your staff had a chance to go watch them play
and that was a good one and impressive win that
they had over the aforementioned on Robin's Demons.
Speaker 2 (04:02):
What did you take away from that game?
Speaker 4 (04:04):
They're an awfully good football team, Like I said, you know,
and well you want to talk about playing a tough
non regions schedule, you know.
Speaker 3 (04:09):
We one of robins. You know, they opened with us and.
Speaker 4 (04:12):
Then they uh they turned around and played that rivalry
game versus North Side. Then they're turned around and go
to Valdosta. Then they've got to play there a tough
dutchdown team which is actually a region game and then
turn around with Housing County.
Speaker 3 (04:23):
So they really run a gamment here. This their first
five games of the season, and they played a tough,
tough schedule and uh, but you.
Speaker 4 (04:31):
Know, Houston County looked really good Friday quarterback, the receivers
or you know, they're they're they're kind of they're hitting
stride and and certainly very very impressive. They're able to
run the ball really well. Like I said, their offensive
line does a great job, very well coached. Defensively, they
play really good, play hard. They've got some really good
players on that side of the ball. So you know,
it's gonna be a uh, it's gonna be a challenge
(04:53):
for us, but you know, like I said, it's one,
it's one we're really excited about.
Speaker 3 (04:56):
You know.
Speaker 4 (04:56):
Uh, you know, we played them here last year. You know,
they came in kind of the way at five and
oh and you know, on a roll, and you know,
we were fortunate we were able to play really well
that night come out with the win. But uh, you know,
every year is a new year. I'm sure they've had
this one circled on their on their calendar since we
we got the win last year here. And we've got
to go to their place. But you know, we're our
kids that we're ready to go. You know, they we
(05:18):
they're they're excited, We're excited about we're excited about this.
You know, all open week, Uh, you know they we
had a great week. Kids are kids are practicing with
a lot of energy and a lot of focus, and uh,
you know, we're excited to get this thing going.
Speaker 3 (05:30):
And the thing about it is, you know, when you're
in a region like ours.
Speaker 4 (05:33):
You've got to you've got to be able to, like
I've said before, you got to be able to focus
on the game that week and then put it behind
you and move on to the next game. Because so
all our focus this week is on Houston County and
you know, after this one, we know we're gonna have
a tough one the next week and then the week
after that, because.
Speaker 3 (05:46):
You know it's it's the region. One is definitely tough
again this year.
Speaker 2 (05:49):
Yeah, and without a doubt.
Speaker 1 (05:50):
Now, you guys played Houston County last year and uh,
how did that game come out?
Speaker 4 (05:59):
Well, you know, we're fortunate, you know, we played well early.
I think the final was fifty to twenty one. And first,
SOUSMANI had a big night I think two hundred and
seventy yards.
Speaker 3 (06:09):
That was Western Bryan's first start.
Speaker 4 (06:13):
But you know that that was last year. You know,
this is this year. I know they returned a lot
of starters. You know, of course we returned a lot
of kids too, and they're they're really playing well right now.
We know, you know, we know they're gonna be excited
about this game. But you know, last year is last year.
You know, things went well for us that night and
kind of fell our way and we're fortunate to come
out with a win. But you know, this is a
new year. You know, whether or Notama said, well, they're
(06:35):
going to be up for the game because.
Speaker 3 (06:37):
You got them last year.
Speaker 4 (06:38):
Well, you know, in games like this, you don't really
need any to me, you really don't need any extra
motivation like that. I mean, it's a big game VERSUSO
highly ranked teams, and it's a region game. I mean
that's all the motivation you need for preparation and playing.
Speaker 1 (06:50):
This one right right, absolutely, So talk about the you
know you mentioned that that was last year talking about
the comparison, and I get it, but you've got, of
course several of the key playmakers. Uh, you know, that
was so dangerous against you guys last year that are
back this year.
Speaker 2 (07:09):
And of course, you know you got to.
Speaker 1 (07:10):
Start with they're all everything running back and you know,
of course their quarterback is a good one in aj Hill.
Speaker 2 (07:19):
They got receivers galore.
Speaker 1 (07:21):
Ye know, it's kind of, I would say, almost a
defensive coaches nightmare to try to game play against these guys.
Speaker 4 (07:28):
Well, they do a great job. I mean, they score
a lot of points. They're explosive.
Speaker 3 (07:33):
Uh, you know, like I said, they're well balanced. You
know the passing game.
Speaker 4 (07:36):
You know, everybody kind of thinks them as his passing team,
but they're really well balanced. You know, the offensive line.
You know, their offensive line coach does a phenomenal job. Uh,
they run the ball really well. And of course the
passing game.
Speaker 3 (07:48):
You know, with a J. Hill at quarterback, he's he
can make every throw.
Speaker 4 (07:51):
He's accurate, you know, he's he's a big time quarterback
and that's what he's playing like. And then of course
they've got you know, just a host of really good receivers.
But you know, that's that's something you know that's a
challenge for us. But you know, like I said, we
feel like we've got some pretty good players. Too, So
we think it's gonna be a lot of fun Friday
night to go out there and play this game and
play in a great atmosphere. You know, Freedom Field is
(08:13):
just such a great venue, yeah, the games in I mean,
they did such a good job designing and building that stadium,
and I'm sure it's gonna be a great atmosphere Friday
night and a lot of fun to go out and
play in a game like this in an atmosphere like that?
Speaker 2 (08:26):
Would you rather be?
Speaker 1 (08:27):
Coming off of bye And this course pertains to you
guys as well as one of Robins. Uh you know, yeah,
I'm sorry, Housing County. So you're talking about, you know,
a team coming off a big win over a one
of Robin's team. Again, you guys have played them as well.
You guys are.
Speaker 2 (08:47):
Coming off of bye week. I mean, I guess I'm asking.
Speaker 1 (08:49):
Does does either team, if at all, have an advantage
over the other.
Speaker 3 (08:54):
I really don't think it matters one way or another.
Speaker 4 (08:56):
I mean, of course I'll probably say us having the
bye weeks a big advantage, but I really.
Speaker 3 (09:00):
Don't think so.
Speaker 4 (09:01):
I mean, you can look at it a couple of
different ways, you know, one having to buy a week
gives you time to possibly rest up some things, maybe
work on some things you you normally don't get to
focus on as much during that when you're preparing for
an opponent.
Speaker 3 (09:13):
I've been on the flip.
Speaker 4 (09:13):
Side, you know, playing a game and keeping that momentum
and keeping that regular Uh, that regular feel of things
is big too.
Speaker 3 (09:20):
So I really don't think it matters one way or another.
Speaker 1 (09:22):
Uh.
Speaker 4 (09:23):
You know what I would like is, you know, they
played at Warner Robbins last week, which is was their
home stadium for twenty five years, McConell Talbert where they
built Freedom Field, and I said, he, I wish I
could play.
Speaker 3 (09:32):
We could have away game that close. You know, all
our way games.
Speaker 4 (09:35):
Seems like we're we're traveling an hour plus so so
it'd be really nice to have an away game, you know,
five minutes from the school.
Speaker 3 (09:41):
Like they did.
Speaker 4 (09:42):
But unfortunately that's just not with our location, that's just
not possible.
Speaker 3 (09:47):
But I'm sure it'll be a great crowd there. Friday
and I had a lot of fun.
Speaker 1 (09:52):
Closing out with Dean Fabrizio, head coach of the Lee
County Trojans. It is our weekly conversation with coach for
Brizio here and itg next.
Speaker 2 (10:02):
So I guess all in all, everybody healthy on your team.
Speaker 1 (10:05):
I mean, you know, we're usually starting to hear of
some bumps and bruises, that kind of thing. Thankfully, I
thank you guys in pretty good shame Well.
Speaker 4 (10:13):
For the most part we are. You know, we've got
some guys a little banged up here. We're able to
get somewhat healed up last week, but we do have
a few little bumps and bruises. But for the most part,
especially at midway through the year, we feel like we're
pretty healthy.
Speaker 1 (10:27):
And that's how you want to be coming into the
start of region play, right coach, Oh, there's no doubt.
Speaker 3 (10:32):
There's no doubt, you know. And depth is always such
a big thing, and you know, are such a big thing.
Speaker 4 (10:38):
In the last two years, we've lost guys and last
year of course louty kg Lucy Ferguson.
Speaker 2 (10:43):
Oh, wake up, coach, come on, man.
Speaker 3 (10:48):
Datie Ferguson.
Speaker 4 (10:51):
You know during region plays a big blow the year before,
you know, Quaveon Carter, our safeties of Michigan State now
losing him over the summer.
Speaker 3 (10:57):
So we've lost key guys each of the last two
years injuries. You know, hopefully we can avoid that this year.
Speaker 1 (11:03):
All right, coach, Well listen, go get that cup of
coffee and.
Speaker 2 (11:11):
Long, long, long days.
Speaker 4 (11:12):
Right a long weekend, work in early morning preparing for
these guys.
Speaker 1 (11:16):
I hear you, brother, I hear you. Hey, we got
you one hundred percent. We know where it all is.
So listen, coach, thanks so much for joining us, and
we look forward. This is gonna be a big one.
I gotta be honest with you. You guys are two
really good football teams and you know, two really good
head coaches. It's gonna be a lot of fun and
we'll be talking to you about it next week.
Speaker 3 (11:36):
Thank you, Phil, I appreciate it.
Speaker 2 (11:38):
Okay, thank you. Coach. There he is.
Speaker 1 (11:41):
That's Dean Fabrizio, head coach of the Lee County Trojan,
checking in with us, and man, what a game that's
going to be. Lee County Houston County. We'll come back
next week and talk about it with coach Dean Fabrizio
right here on the Lee County Coaches Show with Dean
Fabrizio and myself Phil Jones at it g next be
(12:01):
sure to join us
