(00:02):
Hello, everyone, Welcome to theLadies Cell Podcast, one of my favorite
podcasts to do. Out of thefour that we have, you know number
two. Yeah, that's the secondone we invented. Or was it the
third? It might be the fourth, No, it was not the fourth.
It was definitely the second. Itwas the second. I'm sticking with
second. That's my final answer.Hopefully I win a million dollars and then
that would just be my money,so that would suck. I'd be winning
(00:22):
my own money. Yeah, no, no, that doesn't work for me.
I need to win more. I'mwell known. I'm one half of
the anti. I thought ladies andthe end. I thought, ladies write
books, and I bet you'll neverguess what the title of the books are.
Yeah, And I thought, sowe have. And I thought divorce
was bad, and I thought beinggrown up with ead if only I were
(00:42):
mea memoir and verse whittles, WebWhittles, debt and foreign Coffee. And
you can find those books wherever youfind audio books. Now, if you've
been around for this show for awild and when I say a while,
I mean like eight years, becausethat's how long we've been doing the show
at this point. Yeah, Igot old. I take that better.
I got younger and cuter. Lookat this younger and cuter. Then you
(01:07):
will know that we've written seven, actually eighteen books in total because we had
a new book come out this week. Ya to us, congrats sign language
congrats. Yeay, there we go, and you can find out the rest
of those eleven now now twelve becauseI can't math right it's evening time.
Now twelve books on www dot andI thought ladies dot com. But you're
not here to hear about me,although I feel like you should be,
(01:30):
because I mean, look at thisgirl. Proud of people. You need
to know about these things. You'rehere to hear about our wonderful guests.
Wonderful guests. Would you like tointroduce yourselves? Okay, uh hi,
everybody. My name is Kai KaiLove. Let's see some things that you
guys should know about me. Threequick things. I'd like to consider myself
(01:53):
a fine music for curator, youknow, fine music forty. I'm like,
not like like kind of like finewine, but like fine music.
Let's say, who anime connoisseur?Love? I love animal, big big
part of my life and huge basketballfan. I'd love to say junkie fan
(02:15):
junkie huge basketball fan likes those likeif if someone were to ask me,
like, what is my what doesmy life consist of? It's probably those
three things for sure. Talking aboutthem for hours? Okay, anime are
we what kind of anime are wespeaking of? I watch everything they're Honestly,
the better question is more so likewhat like I don't even say,
(02:38):
like what happened I've seen because I'veI've seen so much and I like so
much. It's it really just comesdown to what is interesting, Like if
you get if you don't catch mewithin like the first like two episodes,
two, three episodes, yeah,I'm kind of off of it unless someone
has told me otherwise. But forthe most part, you got three two
to three episodes to catch my attentionbefore you get dubbed. So all right,
(03:02):
So Animal, Yeah, yeah,I got some stand ups. Sailor
moved, Yeah, Sailor moves aclassic. You got like like Cowboy Bebopped
and oh God, I love that. I was gonna start off with Cowboy
Bebop and then I was like,no, no, that is my my
(03:22):
favorite anime of all time, favoriteAnimal. I got a tattoo and everything
like, so I'm love the fiveaction. No, I hated it.
Okay, what it was, I'mgonna be horrible right now. Okay.
I was a fan. I wasa light fan of I would watch them
(03:44):
every blue moon, and i'd likefinished out in the whole season. Yeah.
But then when the live action,I literally watched the live action like
at least once a month. Yeah. I don't know why, but I
love we got we gotta find yousomething better to do with your time,
Like I mean, I gave itthe cowboy Bebo fan and he gave it
a chance. I don't think Ieven finished it. I think it was
(04:06):
just that bad in my opinion,Like the first episode was promising, I'll
give you that. It was like, all right, this might be something,
and then it just went off therails and I was I became so
uninterested so fast, Like they changingthe script, changing the story. My
man's name was fearless. I wasconfused. I'm like, who is?
(04:28):
Like it was just too many changes. And I get it. People don't
really like the like they want morethan just that, like one to one
like scripting when it comes to ashow, like they don't want it to
be the same. But it's likeif you're gonna change things, like don't
mess with the original story, likedon't don't mess with that. There's other
things that they try not gonna rant, but I'm just get this one point
(04:48):
out. I started this, soI'm expecting a rant. It's like,
it's so like when I told somebody, a Star Wars fan, that I
actually like, you know, FantomMenace and the rest of the reboots,
Yeah, I thought they were Ithought they were okay. I thought they
were kiddy like I would. Iwasn't mad at them. I was mad
that Finn didn't get more shotting. But that's about it, you know what
(05:08):
I mean. But I was aboutto say, you were talking about the
rant about about live action versus Yeah, it's okay. So it's like,
okay, Cowboy Bebop, Right,there's an there's an there's a there's a
story, like there's a story toit all, but it's kind of like
(05:28):
underlying at times, like every episodeis very different, right, So the
thing but the live action is likewhy couldn't they do the same thing where
it's like you don't have to copyevery episode like how it was, but
you that I feel like that couldhave been like that creative freedom where it's
like, okay, we know thatlike every show every episode is random,
Like it's not really like there's there'sa smolar story underneath it all. But
(05:53):
for the most part, every episodeis them just doing something random. So
I'm like, that could have beenbad where they just get crazy creative with
the random episodes in between and stillkeep the underlying story this day, like
that would have been great. Likeit's just so many This is why so
many quarrels. I don't really writereviews about shows, but I went and
wrote a very intense about this show, like I couldn't. I couldn't,
(06:17):
I couldn't help it, I couldn'tget over it. So shout out to
you though from putting out with it, not me, not me, I
like certain aspects of I like Ithink I liked it just for the convincedness,
Like because, as I said,I would go in and I would
finish the season, but it wouldbe like a year or something that I
would watch. It would be overa year and I'd just be like slowly
(06:39):
going through them, and I'm like, I really enjoyed them because they each
are like their self standalone kind ofepisodes and you really enjoy it and you
get in the story of each episode. That's fine. I actually did one
an ending it didn't end. Itdid end, but I'm like, oh
one, and then start season toowith like a whole but it was still
(07:01):
kind of going yeah, yeah, and then they so yeah, and then
look and I'll watch Like like yesterdayI watched a show for Star Trek and
then I said, you know,I really want to know about Voyager.
So I just watched the end aVoyager, the absolute last one. And
I have considered myself to have watchedVoyager because that's all I wanted to know
(07:23):
what all it ended. Yes,how it ended, I want nothing.
How they got there, they gethome, that's all I wanted to know.
Wow, I mean I do thatwith them. I do that with
certain movies, not saying like I'lllike I don't want to watch it,
but like I don't. I don'tdo well with horror movies, right,
So I will if I am watchinga horror movie, whether it's at home
(07:46):
or in theaters, I will goahead and read the entire movie so that
I know what happens and then Ican just peacefully watch the movie. Then
I feel like people that, whyare you spoiling for yourself? I don't
really consider myself Like I'm still interesting, you know, I'm still here.
I just know what happens now alsomakes it less scary, so that's good.
Yeah, Like there are certain episodes, there's certain shows that were on.
(08:07):
I'm not gonna say which show, but like I wouldn't of all the
I wait until the end of theseason and then I read what happened,
and then I sid when I waswatching that season, so like, yeah,
I'm very much like that, likeI understand. So okay, that's
not why we're here. Yeah, okay, Okay. I enjoyed the Cowboy
Bebop brand, and I thoroughly enjoyit. Like now I'm going to go
(08:28):
back and you know, this evening, I'm going to be watching pieces of
season one, two in three, and I'll be watching pieces of all of
the seasons again. Okay, defee, Like maybe I misjudged, maybe
I was too slack to understand.Okay, greatness, greatness, but okay,
all right, But what I amhere to ask is, uh,
(08:50):
you have an everyday job that yougo to what is that? Okay,
So I am the title of Thetitle is lifestyle producer for show called Living
Local DMV. It's a great show, a lot of fun we taught we
uh it's lifestyle, so you know, whether it's health, wellness, fitness,
of those are all the same things. You know, food, fun
(09:13):
things to do in the DMV justtalk to businesses, talk about events that
are going on. We also doentertainment stuff too, so you know,
from like covering pop culture news totalking to celebrities about movies too, you
know, talking about TV shows, like I said, interviewing celebrities like fun
(09:35):
panels that we do as well,Like we do a lot of fun stuff
like that's always the best way Ican describe. But we do a lot
of like fun. Like It's oneof those things where I wake up and
I enjoy going to work, LikeI have fun at work, have fun
with the stuff that we do,and the content content is really great,
you know, shout out to myhost. So did make everyone feels so
(10:01):
comfortable. I've been on a lotof TV shows and when I went there,
I was like, this is fun. Like I'm not that nervous,
Okay. I was more nervous aboutgoing on your show really than I was
about any other show I've been on, and I've been on multiple, multiple,
multiple, multiple shows. Okay, why Nervous not ours? It was
the first TV your Parents that wehad done since like after COVID, So
(10:24):
we were like, makes sense, and I was like I don't remember,
and what do I? And howdo I? And I was like,
oh, this was They're really nice. Yeah, look, we try to
make it comforting. Everybody's in thereto trying to crack jokes, have fun.
I mean, like it's early inthe morning, so it's like,
you know, people, I think, like that's uh, what is it
(10:46):
starting the day off? Like likea smile? I guess as christ corny
as that sounds, but it's like, you know what I mean, Like
we just we're going to have agood time, you know what I mean.
So we want our talent and ourguests to feel the same way,
like you know what I mean.We didn't want everybody to be loose and
be able to enjoy this because it'sgonna be a fun experience. Like it's
not like we're like very stoic, hard interview, like no, this is
fun. This is like this issupposed to be fun, enjoyable, crack
(11:09):
jokes, you know what I meanall that. So I'm glad that we
were able to make you feel comfortable, you know what I mean that that
that that shows that we're doing agood thing. So so here's the question
that I have to ask that everybodyand their mother is gonna want to know,
and then probably their grandmother and afew aunties. How did we get
on television? That is a questionthat I get a lot. Okay,
(11:35):
I'd say the most important thing isyour pitch. It's about how you're pitching
whatever it is you're trying to geton TV. It's it's pitching it in
a way that makes it makes thatthat it makes sense for like our audience
to want to know about. Right. So, everybody's got a business they
want to, like, you know, promote, Everyone's got like some brand.
(11:56):
They want to promote a thing orsomething like that. But I guess
the different or the things that separatepeople is what their brand, I guess
is about and what are the thingsthat they're doing with that brand? Right,
Like the story of it. Solike if some people I give you
an example, excuse me of awoman who started a business to help women
(12:20):
who had what was it? Excuseme? What was it? What are
those things like whatnot? And I'mgot to feel so bad when women with
breast cancer they get that surgery. So she made like bras helping women like
that, like that's her business. We thought that was something that people should
know about because it's something that womendeal with. So just just examples of
(12:41):
like that where it's like like youknow, people are making clothing brands all
the time or businesses or whatever, but it's about like what you're you know,
business is doing to impact people outsideof your business. I think that
is what makes good television. Sothat is one of the probably like my
best piece of it at is howyou frame something, how you pitch it
(13:03):
to people, Like how you knowbusinesses and investors and entrepreneurs and stuff they
talk about like elevator pitches and thingslike that. Same thing applies to TV.
Same thing applies to TV. SoI'd say that is probably the biggest
thing. I can't really think likeany three others wouldn't think Number one aren't
(13:24):
paying attention. I'm going to wrapit up for you, number one.
Make sure that your pitch is conciseand something that their audience is going to
want to see. And then numbertwo. Make sure it actually fits the
type of program that they have.Don't go out say I have a wonderful
business about women in clothes, becausewell clothes, everyone has that women and
(13:45):
clothes. That the shelter that's different, that's give it social value exactly.
I'm glad, thank you for puttingthat together because that every there. I've
been hosting for like eight years now, okay, pro pro go ahead,
(14:07):
Okay, So now I'm just gonnago ahead and ask you about you because
we've we've taken care of the professionalpart and we took care of the fun
part with Cowboy Bebop. Okay,I'm seriously hoping for a season two and
then maybe we should write the peopletogether and then tell them what we think
they should go in there. Sofun fact it got canceled. Yep,
(14:28):
no more, no more, noseason two. It's done. It's over,
and that I'm sorry to break itto you, live breaking new.
I mean to do this to you. Yeah, look, but I think
at an ending I'd have been upsetif they kept going and going and go
(14:50):
in no ending. Okay, Yeah, I gave you some closure. Yes,
I insisted, I've been Yeah,I'm sorry. I hate. I
hate, I hate. I hadto do it to you. I'm sorry.
Look I was that was that wasa very happy moment for me.
(15:11):
I guess I don't. It's likeI don't want to root for people to
fail. You never want to rootfor someone to fail. But at the
same time, I was like, yeah, I was like, we didn't
need we didn't need any more ofthat. It was like we were good.
Okay, now what I've got mysad news. It's almost as bad
as having one of my favorite authorson and then finding out that she killed
(15:35):
my favorite character. She wasn't bringinghim back. Yeah, yeah, okay.
Did you get your start and howdid you end up in television?
My start? So I started outin radio. Actually I was on a
like my first ever say it again, you don't have a face for right,
(16:00):
Yeah all right, I hear you. Look, I'd like to think
I have a face that needs tobe on TV. So if you're going
now, absolutely, But I was. I was a street team member,
So I was just doing like promo, like you know, you go outside,
you see the people at the booths, well, like the wheels that
(16:21):
are spinning for prizes and stuff likethat. I did those that I did
that. That was my first likejob out of college, which is cool
because my like, within like afew weeks of me working there, the
NFL Draft was in Philly, soI got to work that event. So
it was like it was like areally dote time, Like it was awesome.
I was getting like backstage, youknow, with stuff, so it's
(16:42):
pretty cool. But from there justtalking to people. Then I moved into
onto a CBS Philly. I hadlike a I referred to as like a
fellow ship, right or like anapprenticeship is what it was call. So
you just go around to different partsof the newsroom like you might be you
(17:03):
might be writing, you might doa little producing, you might do pa
work digital, just just try toget your hands in everything like marketing,
like just it's basically like a trialperiod to see what you like and then
see what part of the industry youare, what part of these jobs you
want to do ultimately. So Iended up really liking digital, Like I
(17:26):
wanted to be like a writer, like I thought it was cool, like
being able to write entertainment stories andit was fun. It wasn't as stressful
as writing for news, like whenI've been my like my news writing rotation.
It was not the worst, butit was the most stressful thing ever.
Like I was like, you know, I would get a phone call
like a couple of times to shift, just asking me to fix scripts or
(17:48):
something, and no, I'm likea twenty year old listen, like twenty
one, twenty two year old kid, maybe I'm like in here strength,
Like I'm like everyone, like ifPhilly's the top market, so they expect
you to like to be on likeyour ith right like they expect it.
So it's like I'm just lost toconfused trying to figure things out, but
ended up enjoying like the writing part, especially being able to like write about
(18:11):
entertainment stuff. So that's like allthe stuff I ended up writing. And
then from there moved on to ajob in New York didn't turn out so
well, came back home, dida little bit of reset, and then
I decided, all right, ifI have to, I wanted to work
in TV. I think I waslike working in advertising back at home,
(18:34):
and I'm like I hate this job, Like I hated this so much,
so I'm like I want to evenif I have to move to like hopefully
not the middle of nowhere. Butif I have to move somewhere to do
this, I'm willing to do this. Like I was applying to like jobs
in like the middle of Georgia andlike random places and like Buffalo and all
these like other random cities because Ialso wanted to find this said like so,
(19:00):
uh, then I just happened tolook up and I saw a post
on Facebook about them needing like themneeding a digital producer for like this job
that I had before I have tohave before the job I have now.
And then I got to move downto DC. It's been fun. I
(19:21):
moved at the top of COVID,so I was in the house for like
a year and a half. Likeit was, Yes, it was a
very interesting experience. I was.I saved a lot of money, saved
a lot of money, but ityes, being stuck in the crib for
a year and a half. Thenthere was was a mixed bag, definitely,
But I did that for a while, and I realized that it was
like more political, like of course, like being in DC, everything is
(19:45):
very politics heavy. Like if you'renot if you wanted to work in politics,
do political media place to be oneof the places to be for sure,
entertainment not so much so. Wantingto get out of my old job.
I originally applied for a digital producerposition at the job at the place
(20:07):
that I work now, like Iwanted to be a digital producer. Guy
talking to me and shout out, shout out to my man Brian and I
And one of these days when Iwhen I do decide to leave that job,
He's going to absolutely be one ofthe first, if not like last,
few people that I have to thank, because talking to him, he's
like, all right, what doyou want to do. I'm like,
I want to work in I wantto work in entertainment, you know,
(20:30):
stuff like this, ill like entertainmentwriting. He's not okay, and then
he passes my resume along to myboss. Now she calls me at like
nine ten o'clock at night saying, hey, do you want an interview for
a job. And I'm like, all right, just like nine ten o'clock
on like a Saturday night. SoI'm just like, who, okay,
whatever, do a quick interview.Basically, then next to you know,
(20:52):
I get invited out to lunch. We talked more, and then now I'm
the lifestyle producer and it has beenprobably probably his deep best job I've ever
had, honestly for your job.And then I just want to say,
though we were there, I'm sureyou enjoyed it a little bit more because
we and vodka together exactly exactly. And was that your pops or was that
(21:18):
was that your partner's dad? IsJade's dad? Jade's dad? Cool dude,
cool cool dude. Yes, cool, cool dad. I was like,
guess that's the end of you hadn'tneeded in the morning, That's what
I mean, like stuff like that. So yes, and yes, you
guys were great. You know whatI had us, had us a little
uh try to get us a littletipsy in the morning, But you know
(21:41):
what I mean. But I meanthat's that that is that is that happens.
That happens often. We'll live.We get a lot of bar tenders
in. They always want to hurtdrinks and we're just like, oh okay,
so yeah, Parks. It's like, I was like, this is
the job I would be happily dothis. Just you know, I feel
(22:02):
like y'all need a segment on justbars in the metro area. Mm hm.
As a matter, you might beon to something, you might be
onto something that's a nice that's anice that's a nice idea, not even
just segments. We like turn thisintellection anyway. Look, look already a
regular thing on Fridays because it's rightout bars in the regular in the in
(22:25):
the DNB area, Like just maybethey're happy hour specials. Yeah, I
gotta write you a check or something. I'm gonna figure this out. Is
that's an idea? Wait a minute, wait a minute, a little bar
hind Okay, all right, I'mtelling you if I use this, i'm
gonna have to credit you somehow.I'm gonna shout you out or something.
I'm gonna figure this out. Oh, it's more than a credit. It's
(22:48):
ready. I'm going to ask thehost. Yeah, they're like hey,
They're like, hey, you wantto come through and talk to the segment?
Contribute by all means I respect that. I'm gonna just roll through to
the restaurant real great, yes, yeah, happy half hour back exact yo,
honestly, real real influencer style, real real influencer style. I like
that. So I'm feel like theregular schedule program. So can you tell
(23:15):
people where they can find out aboutyou? If you you want to?
Like throughout your social media handles,or if you just want to tell them
to watch the show that you youdon't produce. Okay, so one of
course tune in uh Living Local dnD. You have to check your local
listings to find it because it isdifferent depending on the cable provider you have,
but I do know that it isfor sure on your c W channel,
(23:37):
So wherever you are, you'll cW channel. If you're in the
DMV area, that is, you'llbe able to find us there things like
channel fifty or something. I'm peopleasking this, I just tell them check
your local listings because it's too manynumbers to remember. But yes, also
follow them on Instagram at Living LocalD and D underscore all one word,
(23:59):
A lot of dope st of alot of fun stuff. We have.
We have Oh I'm a gonna say, we have performances on too, Like
I don't know if you know KevinRoss, but we had him on the
other day. We had a reallydope jazz singer on, like, We've
had country acts on like like ananimate so we we also we also do
that as well. But yes,Living Vocal every day at ten am and
then at one pm, so that'salways thing. Now if you want to,
(24:22):
of course, like follow me,you can follow me on Instagram or
Twitter at Kay's view. So kh ai v I E W S underscore
on Instagram and then on Twitter it'sjust Kay's view, just that I'd like
to think I post a lot ofcool stuff. I actually do a radio
(24:45):
show, a radio esque show,I want to say, on Mondays.
It's not really like a radio show. I refer to it as a radio
show. But every Monday. Ofcourse, music comes out every Friday.
New music drops every Friday, right, so I on Mondays, I'll I
spend my whole weekend pretty much listeningto music. So I'll just do like,
hey, here are some of thehot songs that came out over the
(25:07):
weekend. Check this out, youknow what I mean. But and then
sometimes it's not always the new song. Sometimes it might be an old song
that people might have missed, oryou know, something I forgot that people
might have forgot about. Like Ihad, uh, you know What's Up?
By Don hll Jones on the otherday just because I was like,
all right, just know something likeit's like, all right, I've listening
to that song a lot. Igotta put this on here, you know
what I mean, give a littlethrowback vibe. So it's it's it's like
(25:30):
you never really know what to expecton there, but just know you're always
gonna get something fired. Like you'reout of the songs that I post.
I would like to think you'll findone, maybe two that you like.
So if you leave, if youwalk away with just one song that you
like, then I've done my job. Okay. So I love music.
It's part of my day, allday. Right now, I'm on a
bit of a Oh my goodness,I'm on a soca vibe. Okay,
(25:53):
I'm all summer okay, good yes, summer summer vie for sure. So
as soon as I get my Socavibe, I'm gonna come back and start
listening to, you know, realmusic, so i'll be why I was
listening to you. Don't say, don't say not real music. So and
not only that, but that popsup on there as well. Don't don't
not hold on. We got wegot the apropes, we got Caribbean.
You go like yo everything, Yes, I got some land. You start
(26:17):
there like you never I'm telling youyou never know what to expect. It's
going to be like, I'm justI have been enjoying my summer. It
just became like a soaka summer.By accident, I went to a reggae
fest and I was like, yeah, I'm in love again. It's like
it's just partying all day. It'sas soon as it comes, all day,
(26:37):
go my day. Have you beento to a carabina before? No?
I haven't either, but I hearthose lips, So I mean another
place if you want to for soakingmusic. I know I think they might
have had like one around here, but I know the big ones are using
like Toronto or some other place, but definitely definitely abode. I'm going to
(27:00):
interview in Toronto again. Then I'mgonna see if I can't try to schedule
around exactly, schedule around, schedulearound. That's that's the secret to vacation.
Sometimes you just it's like but thenlike circling the vacation around because you're
already gonna be there exactly exactly nowhereto find Kide, So go over there
check out his radio station because apparentlyit is just fire as he said.
(27:23):
I was like, oh, it'sfire like R and B jazz. See,
this is what happens when you haveprejudice as a whole. She'd be
like RG bat jazz. You prejudiceit on music. Wow, you know
all of it. As a matterof fact, I just today is Monday
and I just posted something, welltoday today's Monday. I don't know when
you'll be listening to this, butit'll be on my profile. It's always
