Speaker 1 (00:05):
Hey, this is Annie and Samantha and welcome to Stephane.
Never told your protection of iHeartRadio, and welcome to another
Sex in the City Watch with Us party. That's what
I'm calling it now feels close to like last of Us.
(00:25):
I assumed you would appreciate that. Yeah, yeah, yeah, um,
and yes we are back with another episode. Just as
a reminder, as we've been putting at the top recently,
we are still looking for our listener participation. All you
need is uh computer, headphones, internet, and if you have
access to a mic, wonderful. If not not necessary, And
(00:47):
as soon as we do decide, which will be a
little while, we will let you know plenty of time
ahead to us as to how to prepare what websites
were were using, all the good things, and our superproducer
Christina will definitely be in contact, so there will be
no reason to worry. No, it will be very simple. Essentially,
(01:07):
we're going to send you a link and access to
internet really is the big one. As long as you
have that, we'll send you the details and we'll work
around your schedule. It should be very fun, very low key.
If you would like a drink of any sort, you
can have it. I mean, we can't tell you what
to do, but it's welcomed, I guess, is what I'm saying.
(01:27):
But yes, if you've already entered, we have your name.
If you'd like to enter, please you can contact us
via all of the ways we give you at the end.
But yeah, it's gonna be fun. It's gonna be fun time. Yes,
and again, not necessary to know any of these episodes
or to have ever seen it, so yeah, just as
a reminder, and if you're hearing this, like ten years
(01:49):
down the road, we did this, y'all. Probably no, we
definitely did unless something terrible. Anyway, Okay, Anny, So we're
back and we are on season two, episode ten. But
before we begin, we need the recap. Can you give
us a recap? Okay, We've gotten a lot of conversation
(02:13):
with Carrie and Big around setting kind of relationship expectations
and boundaries now that they're back together. What does what
does their relationship look like? What do they both want
out of it? I feel like we saw a lot
of Big being a jerk, but you know that's for
the course. Apparently for the course. We've been introduced to
(02:35):
Steve Miranda's I hope This isn't a spoiler. I don't
think it is, but it is around a lot in
the show with Miranda, and they're kind of working on
their own boundaries as well and what they want to
have the relationship, how they can make it work. Charlotte
continues to try to find the one and not quite
(02:56):
able to That sounds like I'm blaming her, I'm not,
but she's she continually is with these guys who she's like,
this is the one, and then by the end of
the twenty six minute episode, who's not the one? And
then Samantha continues to be there with the support and
the jokes and all the jokes. Yeah, and her wisdom. Sure,
(03:20):
you know what, she has definitely been the one that
has been at ease. As much drama as she may have,
it's less dramatic. Yeah. She definitely seems kind of at
least from what I've seen, because I have never seen this. Listeners,
if this is somehow your first time hearing that, I've
never seen it. So far, she seems like she rolls
with the punches a lot. Yeah. So yeah, yeah, she's
(03:42):
been kind of a stable, which is what made us
sad with and just like that. But that's okay. All right.
So now we're on episode ten. We're gonna go ahead
and let you know if you've not watched this, just
one is a little racist. I do find an offensive myself,
and this is one of the ones. I'm like, Okay,
this is one of the bigger problematic ones. As we
(04:03):
talked about before, we're trying not to scot around the issues.
This was in the nineteen ninety nine when it was released.
I believe it was August eight of nineteen ninety nine.
Doesn't make it better, but just to let you know
it is at this point in time, we understand how
this is gross today. But yeah, but before we start,
we're gonna go ahead to the title. You can do
a prediction. I've given you some clues since then. Obviously.
(04:26):
The title of this episode is the cast System. M Well,
the thing is, you've never told me exactly what this
is about, but you've given me a lot of hits
up the mornings, and it's kind of infamous in my brain.
The more problematic ones. I don't no, I don't know
(04:50):
what it could be. I mean, I know it's racing.
Oh oh oh, Well, she is really really struggling on
this one can't think of what it would be like.
I think I'm giving you a hand that I was
personally offended by it, so that should probably lean into
(05:13):
And the idea of cast system is very uh Asian
in itself. It feels racist even ya. Honestly, I'll just
go with it. It's racist. You're ready, You're not wrong.
(05:48):
The first time I realized I actually loved being oh,
she loved him. They're staring at each other with toast.
It's so New York because I'm just reading newspapers together
while we're sexy clothes like he's really short off his
chest while she's just wearing his shirts, which, by the way,
that's never been a thing for me. I've never worn
a man's button nug shirt, have you? No? I mean
(06:12):
not in a relationship. I've worn one, Okay, got you like? No,
oh no, why would you do that to me? I said, well,
what's this for? Oh? I just saw it and thought
(06:34):
of you. Oh no, jeweled swan and it doesn't look
good like I think there's a possibility you could make
that look good, but it does not look good. It
was just wrong. It was wrong. I didn't know what
to say, except I love you, She said, I love
(06:59):
you for that big I love you because he gave
you that. What did you think? It was a large
diamond duck ran, She said, I love you and she
brought it brush a large diamond duck ran. If I
saw this table, I'd be like the hales, you're welcome.
(07:20):
I'll just wait for you outside. Oh he gave the
you're welcome reply to the cheek. So I've always asked
that question. I've even asked questions to my friends because
they will quickly tell people I love you, and I'm like, wait,
what how did you do that? Why what made you
(07:41):
say that? Because for me, when it comes to my friends,
it's easy, but for like relationships, I was like, no, no,
but I don't think I've ever actually told anybody before
my partner today that I loved them. Yeah, it does
feel I kind of think we were. It's not the
same level, but kind of like when we were talking
(08:01):
about the last episode of like when you post on Facebook,
like in relationship, it does feel like saying I love
you elevates it. It does to another level. Yeah, and
if somebody doesn't respond back, then you're left hanging like
m as she says, like it's the gauntlet and now
either they have to break up or go forward, which
(08:21):
one isn't. Yeah, And the thing is, it's kind of
like the power move we keep talking about, which is unfortunate,
but so many relationships are that, like, oh, now I
have the power. She said, I love you. I didn't, right,
this is the power in my court. She was dating
(08:42):
a bartender who worshiped her, and Miranda was so crazy
about him in return that she let him take her
out to dinner, but only to places she knew he
could afford. And now we're back with Miranda, who is
so happily in this relationship. That piece of pizza New
York slot, as he said it, I've never really had
new pizza. I've been in New York, but I don't
get for pizza. I've had Italian pizza, you know, but
(09:05):
in New York pizza. I warn you, it's going to
be totally boring. It's not gonna be boring if I'm
there with you. He's going to an a van with her,
it's not going to be boring. From there with you.
He's in, he's very cute, probably wear a suit. I'm
gonna get big fantie did you have a slue, right, try,
(09:29):
she's really nice. UM's gold, it's just goos. I'm sorry.
What's wrong with corduroy. Oh it's corter of gold, gold
corduroy suits. For the first time, Steve took Miranda back
(09:53):
to his place apartment that looks like a murder house. Look,
we have to be real though, so many shows like
Paint New York is if we could afford it, it's
not true. Well, she's a partner now and that's why
she gets her own apartment. Sam's a big pr person.
Karrie has written control. She has written control apartment. Um
(10:17):
and yes, Steve has a scary place, and this would
probably be the place that you could afford because literally
has a kitchen net I think bathroom and that's the end.
I like that one pan just hanging there. Right, Wait
a minute. Rich men date not so rich women all
(10:39):
the time and it come out. Look at me and
big it's not about money. It's about compatibility. Not about money,
more about compatibility. But we talked about this. You can't
remove it, unfortunately, in my opinion, Yeah, that he probably
thinks that, Oh I am so much Richard, think Carrie,
(11:00):
And he probably likes yeah, and if she were to
ever make more money exactly, he would have a problem
with that. I want to enjoy my success, not apologize
for it. Bravo, honey, that's the line everybody remembers. I
want to enjoy my success, not apologize for it. Talking
about a difference in background and education, this guy is
working class. Oh, don't say things like working class anymore.
(11:25):
But you're trying to pretend that we live in a
classless society and we don't. And then this is the racist.
But where she made sure to show off that while
they're getting their nails done that they're in a class system.
And who was the upper class as Charlotte Wood? Right?
You doing a guy right now, and he's got an
actual servant, So saone, I'm a stating someone seems who
(11:48):
has a servant, as they called it, who is an
Asian woman that's made of killing in the more, turning
Chelsea sweatshops into luxury co ops. Fantastic cook. You want
to better time? Ye? Yes? Please? Do you like spie
(12:08):
che like mister Harby niece. So I don't know the background,
because I know that plenty of refugees and people who
are commute to the country have accents. Accents are not
a big deal. But I feel like they played her
up right and a stereotype for this episode as comedy,
(12:31):
it's fairly offensive. Yeah, very offensive. Well, didn't Stephanie, sirius
She of everything everywhere, all at once, and a bunch
of other things. But she said like she'd been asked
in auditions to play up Yeah, her accents. Yep. The
(12:52):
next afternoon, Charlotte made the acquaintance of a member of
the very highest cast, a cast at from coast to coast,
rich and poor. Everyone deferred to an honored without question
the movie star. Oh yeah, we have the dude who
I am guessing was probably the Christian Slater of that time.
(13:14):
I'm saying, yea, how much for this piece? The fire extinguisher?
Oh no, no, no, that's that's a real fire extinguisher.
I mean, to be fair, I probably would have done
something an art gallery like what is this is a
(13:36):
literal fire extinguisher, sir Honestly, look at some of the
art that's happening these days. That's fair enough, yes, but
that's also a name. Like not excusing this dude like
he's supposed to look this idiotic, but like there's a
name above it, so it looks like that is an
art piece. You think about closing out for the rest
of the afternoon. Oh my god, Oh yeah, now she
(13:57):
gonna run away with the movie stars making out. When
I was a kid, I asked my mom, is this
how you meet people? You go to a bar and
then you have sex? And she was like, oh god, no,
but if you're watching this, I'm want to assume, right.
I mean I went to bars thinking that in my
early twenties, going like I'm gonna go make guy, and
(14:19):
that never happened. That's what it leads to. Like, but
that's kind of why, Like, this is why online dating
was so successful, because this was the option. This is
the only when you knew you met through this or
through work, which could be a problem. Yes, what do
(14:41):
you think? I think it's kind of frightening. How good
I look. It's a beautiful suit. I think we should
take it. Could you do a cuff with a nice
little break? Would be the shoes. I wouldn't know what
to say. I don't know how she knows so much
about suits. I guess we're taking these shoes. Uh yeah,
(15:02):
just like that. Jesus eighteen hundred. Yeah, don't worry, it's
my trade. What do this thing? I want to pay
for the suit? No way, You're not buying me suit.
So Marinna wants to pay for the suit. Yeah, and
(15:24):
we already see problems here. Yeah, by seeing this as well.
But I wanted to do this for you. Then I
started to think of you like my mother, and that
get a little weird. If he is I feel like
you can do this, but she should have told him before,
like I would like to do this for you. It's embarrassing. Yeah,
(15:47):
Stigin it's expensive. Would you just let me buy the
And he's so embarrassed? Yeah, that is becoming a problem.
That's kind of like when I feel like when you
take someone to a fancy restaurant, you either have to
warn them, yeah, or pay for yourself. Never tell them, right,
(16:11):
I know what you're really pissed off about, but it's
just something I've got to do in my own time.
Big is having a phone conversation with Carrie. Well, I
love you, I love you. He is just a tough
thing for me to say because it always seems to
(16:34):
get me in trouble when I say it. Okay, okay,
are we okay, great, Hey, I love you too. I
call you later. Okay. How awkward? Like wait what? Wait?
(17:01):
Oh my? Was that chooting she made out with them
and her excuses everything before? I love you? It doesn't
count things. Oh no, I wouldn't agree with that. I
don't either. That's definitely like and we've definitely play it all.
I felt like I wouldn't have a huge problem. Yeah,
as we've discussed with a lot of these episodes, Like
(17:22):
I feel like if you had that discussion before, like hey,
we're not exclusive or we're exclusive, but I felt like
the vibe was they were exclusive and it I would
be heard if I found out you were right, especially
after saying you love someone and that's what you want
out of them, right right, Because then, because I mean honestly,
(17:47):
like sometimes somebody tells you something that impactful and you
have to I will say me, I have to sit
with it and be like okay, And I know that
sucks for the other person because then you're like, you know,
tumbling in your mind. Oh they don't, but for me,
I'm literally I just need to think about it for
a second. Unless we've already reached that point where I'm
(18:08):
convinced of it, right, But if I if I haven't
really considered it, but if you've said it already and
the other person hasn't said it yet, that doesn't necessarily
mean they don't feel that way. And I would be
heard to find out. Yeah, yeah, there would have somebody else.
There's a whole lot of process there. You go, that
(18:47):
is the cast system and you get I'll give you
ten points out of like one hundred or for that
one because it is very receless that you are corrupt. Um.
But yeah, So we have the end of Miranda and
Steve this point in time. Oh really they broke up? Well,
I mean they did, but I see me. Okay, girls
gonna here. Sam had a weird relationship with a weird
(19:12):
dude and his housekeeper who they all kept calling servant,
which is really like, I hate that. It just feels gross.
And then we have Charlotte trying to get in with
the movie stars, which I'm like, are they really at
the top? I would never think they were at the top.
M No. And that's interesting to me that Charlotte again,
(19:34):
she's kind of a fascinating character because I feel like
she's like wanting to find the one and she meets
this movie star and she's like, this is it. She
gets all caught up into it, but yeah, in the
back of her mind had to be somewhere this guy
or at least like he's not the one, but you
can get all caught up in that for sure. Yeah,
that like, oh, I'm the one that will be the
I mean, I'm sure if I met a movie star
(19:56):
that I actually liked, right, I might get caught up,
not like douche guys and I'm like, you're a jerk.
I know you are. I'm paris about you, right, And
I do wish I wish I could have heard what
Carrie would have said. Yeah, she was like, don't get
out of there. I wish why right, And now we
have big and Carrie solidifying that I love you and
(20:18):
her whole reasoning nothing count before I love you, which
sounds awful because I'm like, it takes a long time
for me to get there anyway. Yeah, that's again, if
you've agreed on that, that's one thing. But they had it,
in my opinion, and I feel like in a relationship,
even if you haven't said I love you, doesn't mean
you can just make out with anyone, right, Although that
(20:41):
was kind of her petty vengeance to that party. It's
true still, but yeah, very problematic. Well we finished this
problematic episode. There'll be many more to come. Oh good,
excellent moves because it was chopped full of the unfortunately
because you know things have changed and hopefully we've grown
(21:03):
with it. But yes, so there it is. You got
ten points. You are not doing too well. No, but honestly,
I'll take the loss on that one night, I was
not going to do myself any favors. Well, listeners, we
hope you're enjoying these again. If you want to enter
