Though written for Weezer's upcoming album Van Weezer, the band's latest single "Hero" was dedicated to frontline workers battling COVID-19 when it was released in May. As such, it was only fitting for Rivers Cuomo and company to perform a socially distanced rendition of the track for The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.
For the performance, Cuomo switching out his guitar for the piano and transformed the heartfelt song into a ballad, accompanied by his bandmates from their respective homes.
Like so many other bands, Weezer was forced to delay their upcoming album in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic. Van Weezer is now slated to come out May 7, 2021. The new release date will correspond with the band's postponed Hella Mega Tour with Green Day and Fall Out Boy, which is set to kick off next summer.

Though they may be stuck at home, Weezer's been pretty busy during quarantine. Aside from dropping the new song, they also made a guest appearance on The Simpsons, launched an online video game, and Cuomo hosted some livestream sessions, where he covered Green Day's "Good Riddance (Time Of Your Life)" and Nirvana's "Heart-Shaped Box."
