Tom Morello Is Currently Recording With The First Guitar He Ever Bought

Tom Morello is not only a bona fide rockstar, he's also a legendary guitarist with his own signature ax; however, the Rage Against The Machine cofounder decided to dust off the first ever guitar he ever bought for a current recording session (!!!).

"My first guitar. A $50 Kay. SG knockoff. Lotta knobs. Didn’t stay in tune. Perfect," Morello wrote on Instagram alongside a photo of the guitar. "Got it at Rigoni Music in Libertyville, Illinois. Took two lessons which I hated and then it sat in a closet for 4 years untouched. Then at 17 I bought a Sex Pistols cassette and formed a band within 24 hrs, culling beginner musicians from the Libertyville High School Drama Club. Wielded this guitar in that band, The Electric Sheep. First ever shows and recordings. When I got a better guitar this one went back in the closet. For about 30 years. Pulled it out awhile back, cleaned it up, and have been recording with it ever since. Like today."

See Morello's nostalgic post below.

Though Morello didn't reveal what he's recording, he has released two songs since quarantine began: 2020's protest anthem "Stand Up," which features Shea Diamond, the Bloody Beetroots, and Imagine Dragons' Dan Reynolds and acoustic tribute to Nat Turner's Rebellion, "You Belong To Me."
