Iconic Sacramento-Area Music Venue Up For Sale After Owner's Death

An iconic Sacramento-area music venue is up for sale, reports CBS13.

The Boardwalk in Orangevale is going for $1.2 million after one of the owners passed.

"I don't want to do it without him," the owner Sandy Silk-Earl told CBS13. "That's just it - it would be too hard for me.

Silk-Earl and her husband Mark spent the last 25 years together and running the venue.

"[It was] always Mark and Sandy," she said. "He always did the band's part and the money, and I did everything else."

Mark passed last fall after a battle with leukemia.

On top of that, the Boardwalk has been closed for over a year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

"I’ve already depleted my entire life savings waiting since we were shut down March 16 of last year," said Silk-Earl.

And despite the loosening restrictions in California, capacity limits don't do much to help out struggling independent venues.

"You can’t do a live venue with 25 percent capacity even 50 percent capacity. You can’t turn a profit," she said.

The Boardwalk stage has seen legends like Joan Jett and John Entwistle from The Who, as well as big local acts.

Silk-Earl says there have been some offers on the property, but she's hoping a group of musicians will buy it.

"I just want them to keep playing. Let the music keep going.”
