14-Year-Old Accepted To The University Of Washington

A Seattle family from Indonesia is celebrating the accomplishment of their son David Purnomo.

David is 14-year-old and a sophomore at Seattle Prep but he recently learned that he's been accepted to attend the University of Washington this fall, reports King5.

"It's hard to process right now," he said.

David was selected through UW's highly competitive Robinson Center of Young Scholars.

As a first-generation Indonesian immigrant, David says he's experienced his fair share of adversity. He has attended seven different schools in four states since kindergarten.

He says moving so often has given him a better perspective and joked that he has friends all over the country.

By the age of 11, David discovered his passion for medicine and began studying the human brain. Before he reached his teens, he told his parents he wanted to be a medical researcher and work with Doctors Without Borders one day.

David has other passions outside of academia. He told King5 he considers the Bellevue Badminton Club to be his second home.

Although he just discovered badminton a few years ago, he applied the dedication he uses on his studies to learning the sport.

David is already a ranked competitor on the U.S. Badminton Junior team.

He's well on his way to achieving his true dream which is to be a "professional badminton playing doctor."
