Fire crews responded to a brush fire sparked by a small plane crash in Pierce County on August 12, 2021.
A brush fire broke out after a small plane crashed at a Pierce County airport Thursday (August 12), according to KOMO.
Crews with Central Pierce Fire & Rescue were on the scene in Puyallup, Washington after the crash sparked a small brush fire near the runway at Thun Field. Reporters said firefighters were able to douse the flames within an hour.
Video posted to the fire rescue's Twitter shows smoking twirling from the smoldering grass. Water continues to fly across the scene for further containment. Footage in a follow-up tweet shows the word "Navy" painted on the side alongside a white star.
As for the pilot, who was the only person on board, he reportedly made it off the plane safely. No other injuries were reported.
"Officials say the plane was arriving at Thun Field to have work done when it had an issue with the landing gear," KOMO learned. The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating the cause of the plane crash.
There has been some wild plane crashes reported across the U.S. this year. Two men's trip for tacos took a scary turn in Florida. Another plane ended up crashing into a Utah home back in June.
