With the end of the year looming, John Legend and Chrissy Teigen are looking towards the future. It's been a rollercoaster year for the longtime couple, with the emotional remnants of the pair's miscarriage in 2020, as well as being the center of some hot topics.
Fresh off her 36th birthday, Teigen told iHeartRadio that she was ready for something new. "I'm a bit ready to get rid of it, I'll say,” the Cravings author admitted, with Legend chiming in to recognize their "tough" but teachable year. "I feel like Christy's grown so much," he said. "We've grown so much together and I feel like we're stronger than ever. We hold onto each other tighter than we ever have and we appreciate the life we have more than we ever have. Because when you get those tests and challenges, you find out who your real friends are. You find out what's important to you. The fact that we've come through all that together, I think it just makes me feel so optimistic for the future for us, for our family.”
It's an approach that sets the Legend-Teigen family up for a brand-new era. While the R&B crooner will turn 43 in a few weeks and prep for his just-announced Sin City residency, Love In Las Vegas, the power couple is making moves on the business front as the latest spokespersons for Chex just in time for the holiday season. "Honestly, they're so fun, and it's so fun to create a kit. Chex and I have been working together for a few years obviously, but it's always been a staple in our household," Teigen said of how the couple enjoys the snack, alongside children, Luna, 5, and Miles, 3. In fact, Teigen works with the brand so much that she created customized recipes, including the family’s own take on Chex™ Party Mix, Make Legendary Chex™ Muddy Buddies, Chrissy’s White Cheddar Cholula Chex™ Mix and more.
Admitting that they don't need any new material gifts for this holiday season, Teigen said that she's turned to food — particularly Chex Cereal— for gifts during the festive months. "I'm very into baking for the holidays, baking things for my friends," she explained. "Because we love doing experiences and things together, but for the most part, none of us need new things. We all love to have our favorite childhood snacks or just comfort foods around. It's really nice to be able to package something really cute up in a little mason jar with twine and a card and a little note. I even attach Polaroids of me and the kids making it into the card, so they can see how much love went into it. It's just always been a part of our household."
Legend went on to add that it was the COVID-19 pandemic that prompted them, as well as many others, to show love through food. "Everyone learned that the one thing that we really all are curious about and wanting to do is nourish each other through food," he explained. "People were so adamant about getting in the kitchen and trying new things and baking breads and reading books. I think those personal gifts of something you made with your hands and made with love, is obviously so beautiful."
After the holiday season wraps, Legend will pivot his focus on his newly-signed deal with Republic Records. The singer admitted that he’s working on the follow-up to 2020's Bigger Love from the comforts of his home. "I've been working on it right here in this house, where we have our studio and been working on a lot of new music," The Voice judge explained. "I'm looking forward to putting it out next year. In the meantime, we're just going to enjoy the holidays and then we'll start dropping some new music, not too late in 2022."
