One Texas city is moving to a four-day work week, reported WFAA.
The City of Keller announced that a trial period for the four-day work week will take place for certain city employees. This includes employees at Keller Town Hall within its municipal services and in the records department of the Keller Police Department.
According to the city, the change will begin on May 28th. The trial period is set for four months and will allow time for the city to look at retention and staff productivity. The city will also be asking employees where they think a four-day work week could have long-term success.
The city's goal for the change is to improve work-life balance for staff. They also cited the additional fuel and utility savings that will come as bonuses for employees.
City Manager Mark Hafner said in a tweet on Tuesday, "We're competing for employees just like everyone else against both the public and private sector, and as an organization, we need to continue to adapt to the needs of the modern workforce."
A meeting will be held on October 2nd to provide feedback of the trial run and to determine if the city should continue with the new work schedule.
