Kodak Black's hometown continues to show love by giving him the key to the city.

On Tuesday, July 8, the City of Pompano Beach honored the Golden Acres native with a key to the city during a special ceremony at City Commission Chambers. Mayor Rex Hardin was in the building to present 'Yak with the prestigious honor for the Trill Bill rapper's philanthropic efforts over the past few years. In a statement, city official cited his array of good deeds including donating air conditioning units to families during the summer, handing out free turkeys during the holidays and donating Christmas gifts kids everywhere.

"This recognition is not about celebrity," Mayor Rex Hardin said in a statement, per CBS News Miami. "It's about heart. Kodak Black has consistently and quietly extended a hand to lift up others in our community, and today we want to shine a light on those efforts and say thank you—from the entire city."

This isn't the first time Pompano Beach has honored Kodak Black. In 2021, the city designated June 11, Yak's birthday, as "Kodak Black Day." The "Super Gremlin" rapper celebrated the first "Kodak Black Day" in 2022 by hosting a music festival featuring performances by Lil Durk, EST Gee, Yungeen Ace and more.

Despite his past legal issues, Kodak Black, who changed his legal name to Bill Kapri, has done a lot to give back to his community. Earlier this year, the 28-year-old artist paid rent for 200 residents living in Golden Acres. He did the same for 28 families who were facing eviction in 2022. He also donated $10,000 to the Jack and Jill Children's Center, which is a non-profit organization for early childhood education.
