On Thursday (January 23), Cage The Elephant dropped an updated version of “Broken Boy,” the opening song to its latest album, Social Cues — this time featuring Iggy Pop.

The iconic singer jumps on a verse and can be heard as the backing vocals on the song and it makes the track even that much better.

“Cage is a super high energy outfit, living the rock dream, so for a couple of fun minutes I was one of the boys,” Iggy Pop said in a statement via Rolling Stone. “Sounds pretty wicked to me.”

While many fans said this was the collab they didn't know they needed, Cage's frontman Matt Shultz explained why Iggy Pop was such a good fit for the track. “He’s such a pioneer in so many fields: lyrically, culturally, poetically, visually, musically, and stylistically. Only a couple times in your life do you have the opportunity to share a moment with a visionary and beautiful human as he is,” he said in a statement. “I’m grateful and blown away to have experienced and witnessed, not just his creativity, but also his kindness, humility, and humanness first hand.”

Both Cage The Elephant and Iggy Pop have a big weekend ahead of them. Cage's album Social Cues is up for Best Rock Album at this weekend's GRAMMY Awards and the band's producer, John Hill, is nominated for Producer Of The Year for his work on the album. While Iggy Pop will be honored with the 2020 Lifetime Achievement Award.

Cage The Elephant is also nominated at this year's iHeartRadio Music Awards for Alternative Rock Artist of the Year. Voting will close on Monday, March 23rd at 8pm ET/5pm PT for all categories, except for Best Fan Army which will continue through Friday, March 27th at 9am ET/6am PT. Fans can vote using the appropriate category and nominee hashtags or by visiting iHeartRadio.com/awards.
