The Carters took a stand by staying seated for the National Anthem at Super Bow LIV on Sunday (February 2).

As ironic as it sounds, Beyonce, Jay-Z, and Blue Ivy drew all sorts of attention from football fans last night as hip-hop’s royal family opted to sit throughout Demi Lovato’s powerful interpretation of “The Star-Spangled Banner.”

Despite the statement the power couple made, TMZ reports “everyone seemed to be in a pretty good mood” during the show, so there wasn't much of a fuss. The same can’t be said for Twitter, which was on fire with all sorts of negative comments in response to Bey and Jay’s decision to sit.

It’s also important to note that, per the clip making rounds on social media, it appears The Carters were not the only onlookers who sat during the National Anthem — but that didn't matter to some users on social media. (See the video over at here.)

“Jay Z and Beyonce sat during the National Anthem at the Super Bowl. Seems to me, the people who benefit the most from this country also have the most hate for it…,” tweeted Students for Trump co-founder Ryan Fournier. “Wow…they’re acting like our Anthem means NOTHING. Beyonce and Jay-Z are a DISGRACE,” ACT for America Brigitte Gabriel chimed in.

As TMZ points out, it’s all a bit interesting considering just last year fans were divided on the rapper’s new position with the NFL to bring awareness to police brutality and other criminal justice causes within the black community, despite many followers accusing Hova of turning his back on Colin Kaepernick with the deal all the same.

What do you make of Jay and Bey’s refusal to stand during last night’s anthem?
