Gov. DeWine Offers 'Prayers And Best Wishes' To Trump Following COVID Test

Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine released a statement Friday morning (October 2) following the late-night announcement that President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump tested positive for COVID-19.

“Fran (DeWine) and I join our fellow Ohioans in praying for President Trump and First Lady Melania Trump after they announced early today that they have both tested positive for COVID-19,” DeWine said in his statement. “Along with millions of others, we extend our prayers and best wishes to the President and First Lady during this time for a speedy recovery and for their good health.”

Trump tweeted that he and his wife tested positive for the novel coronavirus and would “begin our quarantine and recovery process immediately.” The announcement came shortly after adviser Hope Hicks also tested positive for COVID-19.

White House officials reported that Trump was experiencing "mild symptoms." Republican National Committee Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel also tested positive for COVID-19. Several others close to the President — including Vice President Mike Pence, Second Lady Karen Pence, Baron Trump, Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner, among others — tested negative, USA Today reported.

Trump was in Cleveland earlier this week to debate Democratic opponent Joe Biden at Case Western Reserve University on Tuesday (September 29).

DeWine hailed Trump’s “great job” during the debate in a tweet from his personal Twitter account that night. During a press briefing earlier that day, the governor also predicted that Trump would win Ohio again in November, as he did in the 2016 election.
