Even though the pandemic is still raging, plenty of people have taken to the friendly skies again and are flying to their destinations. While the cost of airfare dropped significantly earlier in the year, it's coming back to it's normal, higher prices. Of course, you could always fly with a discount carrier. Those airlines offer much less expensive tickets, but they also charge for everything, from a seat assignment to a carry-on bag. However, a TikTok user found a way around one of those fees and shared it, but is now paying the price.

@RobKallday figured out how Spirit Airlines sees if a passenger has paid to bring a carry-on bag with them, and realized how to trick them into thinking he paid for it as well. What he does is take a screenshot of his online boarding pass, go into a photo editing app and change the "0" under carry-on to a "1." The only way for him to be found out would be if the gate agent asks to see the actual email with his ticket, and they are probably too busy getting everyone onboard to take the time to do that.

While TikTok clearly loved the video, with millions of people watching it, Spirit was not so pleased, and they sent Rob a letter, banning him from flying with them for at least two years. He posted a video showing it off. It reads:

"As you know you created a video on the social media platform ‘TikTok’ showing users how to manipulate a Spirit Airlines boarding pass and fraudulently indicate they paid for a carry-on bag to the financial detriment of Spirit Airlines. Additionally, as evidenced in the video’s comments, you have also been advising users specifically on what cell phone application should download to carry out the scam."

Now, if Rob ever tries to buy a ticket on Spirit, it will be cancelled and not refunded, and if he ever steps foot on any Spirit Airlines facilities, law enforcement will be called. He called the airline a "bunch of babies."

It turns out, his hack might not even work. Some commenters pointed out that when boarding passes are scanned at the gate, it shows the agent if the person paid for a carry-on or not, so attempt it at your own risk.
