Outdoor events can include up to 2,000 people after May 15.

Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms made the announcement Wednesday (March 24), and issued an executive order to lift the moratorium on event permits for some events, like festivals, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported. COVID-19 guidelines will still be in place at those events after May 15.

The temporary ban started last March, when Bottoms capped public gatherings at 50 people, according to the Journal-Constitution.

The mayor’s announcement comes after Gov. Brian Kemp announced in a press conference that Georgia will expand vaccine eligibility to everyone age 16 and up, starting Thursday (March 25).

"I just want to encourage everyone to get the vaccine," Kemp said.

One way to schedule an appointment to get the vaccine is by checking the Georgia Department of Public Health, which launched an online search tool to help Georgians find a COVID-19 vaccination site near them.

The vaccine locator is broken down county-by-county.

The Georgia Department of Public Health has reported more than 844,000 confirmed cases statewide as of Tuesday, the latest data available as of Wednesday morning. Data also show that Georgia has administered more than 7,600,000 total PCR tests, with about 819,000 positive tests (about 10.7%).
