There are some people who have no issues with peeing in the shower, and others find the practice absolutely disgusting. Now, a doctor has weighed in and it turns out there is a medical reason why you shouldn't be peeing while you shower.
According to Dr. Alicia Jeffrey-Thomas, peeing in the shower can have "huge consequences" later on. See, your brain tells you that you have to pee when it notices the walls of your bladder stretching, meaning the bladder is full and needs to be emptied, but it also uses other signals to tell it's time to go, and some of them can be learned. That means if you pee in the shower often, your brain will associate that with it being time to empty your bladder, so similar cues will make you need to pee.
Jeffrey-Thomas explained it all to BuzzFeed saying, "We want to avoid training our bladder to associate certain signals with the urge to pee. In this case, peeing in the shower associates the sound of running water with urination or with submersion in water. This can often transition into being triggered by other sounds of running water (like when you're running the faucet to wash your hands or the dishes) or when you're in bodies of water."
Essentially, peeing in the shower too much will cause you to need to pee any time you hear or feel running water. In a TikTok video, she further spoke about why no one should pee in the shower.
