Luke Combs is “as thankful for that as humanly possible” to “get to live (his) dream,” he said after leaving the historic Ryman Auditorium stage at the 14th Annual Academy of Country Music Honors.

As an artist who’s been “blessed beyond measure,” Combs said he’d feel “wrong” if he didn’t give back to others. Quoting Lady A’s Charles Kelley, Combs reiterated that “if you’re in this business, it’s your responsibility to give back to your community and to the fans, and that’s something that I truly believe…Every chance you have to help somebody else in a tough situation, to do that.”

One way Combs recently gave back to others was by covering funeral costs of three fans. The men — ages 20, 20 and 19 — were found dead of carbon monoxide exposure inside a trailer at the Faster Horses music festival in Michigan.

“It’s something that I can’t even imagine how difficult it is on their family,” Combs said Wednesday (August 25). “Money is the last thing that somebody should have to worry about at a time like that.”

He added that, following “horrific” flooding in Middle Tennessee, he would work to help bring relief to the people impacted.

“I’m super lucky to be in the position that I’m in,” Combs acknowledged. “I get to live my dream, which a lot of people would give everything they have to get to do what I do every day, and so I try to be as thankful for that as humanly possible.”
