Snoop Dogg has starred in plenty of movies throughout his career. Now he's preparing to make a film about himself.
On Wednesday, November 9, The Hollywood Reporter shared new details surrounding Universal's upcoming biopic about the iconic rapper. Snoop is directly involved with the movie and will produce it alongside director Allen Hughes, who's known for his work on Menace II Society and Dead Presidents, and Sara Ramaker. It will be the first film to be released via Snoop's newly formed Death Row Pictures, which the rapper operates with Ramaker. Snoop's biopic will be penned by Black Panther: Wakanda Forever co-writer Joe Robert Cole.
“I waited a long time to put this project together because I wanted to choose the right director, the perfect writer, and the greatest movie company I could partner with that could understand the legacy that I’m trying to portray on screen, and the memory I’m trying to leave behind,” Snoop said in a statement. “It was the perfect marriage. It was holy matrimony, not holy macaroni.”
Details behind the plot of the biopic are scarce but it's safe to say the film will follow Snoop, Calvin Cordozar Broadus Jr., as he begins his rise through the ranks of the rap game. The 17-time Grammy nominee immediately won over fans with his debut alongside Dr. Dre in "Deep Cover" in 1992 and his first album Doggystyle in 1993. Over the years, he continued to keep his legacy alive by delivering other classics like Tha Doggfather, R&G (Rhythm & Gangsta): The Masterpiece and more.
Snoop also made a solid name for himself in Hollywood by acting in an array for movies since the '90s like Training Day, Bones, Soul Plane, and Beach Bum. He also appeared as himself in various films and TV series. Earlier this year, he fought vampires alongside Jamie Foxx and Meghan Good in the Netflix film Day Shift.
In addition to his upcoming biopic, Snoop Dogg is also planning to drop his new album with Dr. Dre. He recently revealed the album title Missionary, and said it would be finished by November.
