Drew Barrymore recently revealed that her post-divorce spiral got so bad that she lost her therapist. In a new interview with the Los Angeles Times, the host of The Drew Barrymore Show opened up about the aftermath of her divorce from Will Kopelman after almost four years of marriage.

"He just said, ‘I can’t do this anymore,'” Barrymore said referring to renowned celebrity psychoanalyst Barry Michels. "It was really about my drinking. I said, ‘I get it. I’ve never respected you more. You see I’m not getting better. And I hope, one day, that I can earn your trust back.'”

Barrymore said she began drinking after feeling like she failed her two daughters with Kopelman, Olive, 10, and Frankie, 8. Her Charlie's Angel costar Cameron Diaz made an appearance in the interview telling the Times that Barrymore's spiral was "difficult to watch."

“But I knew that if we all stuck with her and gave her the support she needed, she would find her way,” she added. “I have absolute faith in her. You can’t even comprehend how hard it was to be her as a child, and then she shot out the other end with the ability to save herself.”

Even after those closest to her called out her drinking problem, Barrymore said she didn't step away from alcohol immediately and it wasn't until she landed her talk show in 2019 that she began to cut back. "I think the opportunity at a show like this really hit me,” she said. “I was like, ‘I can’t handle this unless I’m in a really clear place.’” She also shared that she resumed her professional relationship with Michels two years after stopped working with her.
