Katy Perry is opening up about her decision to leave American Idol after seven seasons.

The "Firework" singer recently spoke to Entertainment Tonight where opened up more about her reason to step away from the long-running singing competition after seven seasons, clarifying that she's not announcing her retirement but rather allowing for other opportunities.

"I'm just trying to make space for other things," she said. "It's not like me ending this show means I'm going to retire on an island, even though that would be fabulous. I'm gonna go to work," Perry said She even teased the possibility of new music, adding, "You'll learn more when it's ready to launch."

The "Wide Awake" singer, who previously announced that the current season of American Idol will be her last, also acknowledged that she's going to have an emotional time during the finale this year as it will be her final show serving as a judge alongside Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan.

"I am always emotional on finale, but gosh when this finale comes, I better just tape the false lashes to my face," she said.

Perry has had several memorable moments throughout her tenure on the show, including during a live show that aired Monday (April 15) where she experienced a wardrobe malfunction that she joked would give the show "more than it wanted."
